The setting tries its best to make you think it's serious, though, which creates a constant feeling of being out of place. My greatest concern for the west and those who don't learn Japanese is that there's a lot of really good, older or else obscure games that may never get translated due to their obscurity. I'm not even that experienced and I can name some.

Well, translators wont get hired if they games they translate don't get bought, so in the sense that buying over here directly supports further translations, the ones (in part) providing you with entertainment (the translators, editors, etc) do indeed see what you paid for. It's not a secret - translators are paid for from their games selling. If you don't buy the games, newer games won't come out.

With that out of the way, why do you think that if you buy a wstern game the Japanese developers see jack shit? In order to sell games in the west, they must first be licensed, and that costs money that the Japanese developers receive. Further game translations == more licensing == more money for Japanese devs.

No one is saying that, you retard. The best translations can come very close to the author's originals intentions, they just require creative thinking and a flexible approach. Translation is an art.

Some visual novels have very good translations. Hanachirasu (basically anything Makoto has touched is great), Kara no Shoujo, Fata, Grisaia, Tokyo Babel. And I would suggest that , overall, standards have been rising. I mean, there isn't really anyone on MG's staff that is a bad translator, for example.

That might sound funny, but it's actually genius. I tried translating Bishoujo Mangekyou a few years ago, but gave up because I was floored by all the sex noises.
If I had someone to do it for me I probably would've finished the translation.
Many people don't realize how tortuous translating H-scenes can be. And it's even worse when you start thinking, "I bet most people just skip the majority of this anyway."

The horror about it is that you've pretty much got to leave it as it is, which is like a nightmare for a translator. Take a look at this:

What can you do with that? Nothin'. On the one hand, it's nice because you pretty much just have to write kana in romaji and you're done, no thinking required. On the other hand, you know that whoever's reading it is just skipping through it and maybe going so far as to be taken out of the experience while trying to read it.

By the way, while most VNs don't suffer from the intense translation difficulty of Masda, they do all suffer from English and Japanese being pretty different. Even when translating nukige you've got to think carefully about word choice and how to structure your sentences, and worst of all, maintaining character voice. But translating it would be a nightmare for me, because each of the four heroines has a completely unique tone of voice. One is just a normal tone, one is a very gruff and manly tone, one is a very young girlish tone, one is that of an old prostitute from centuries ago, and one is very chuuni and grandoise. Even through it's a nukige, translating it would require giving a lot of attention and care to translating every scrap of dialogue in order to maintain the original's characterization. And that's just a nukige with fairly meh writing overall.
