The new tech institution whatever it is system in EU4 is absolute shit, I just had to rage quit a games, playing as Russia, having started as muscovy. Institutions take forever to get to countries outside italy/HRE and it's absolutely gamebreaking, I was 5-6 military tech tiers behind my neighbours with a incredible research penalty. extract that folder to your desktop.

extract that too. You'll get a folder titled DLC, open it and open up your main EU4 folder that you just placed on your desktop and drag all the DLC folder files into the same named folder where all your other EU4 files are in.

then download this, it's the crack.

take out the two files and just place them in your EU4 folder and click override if it ask you for permission. should be able to play it with all the DLC after that.

each institution requires a different strategy

Renaissance: Just develop the shit out of your provinces

get every province up to 10 development
get your capital up to 20

you'll have it in ~30 years, it depends on how rich you are, how good your monarch is etc

loyal burghers give up to -10% development discount, this is really important in early game before the development efficiency kicks in

Colonialism: Conquer coastal provinces as close to the institution origin as possible

this one took me the longest, 50 years, but I was also bogged down in neverending wars so there's that

Printing Press: Conquer anything protestant or soon to be protestant, release as vassal, annex once they adopt printing press

having protestant provinces helps too

Global trade: This one "spreads" fast, but if you want it fast, have a coastal centre of trade with lots of development in a high value trade node, like hamburg or holland and such, and build a stock exchange in it

Manufactories: Basically manufacturies are made so that countries that invested early on into economic ideas/being a merchant republic reap the benefits the most

It's hard to fill you country with manufactories, if you can plan ahead, take economic ideas, hope for a ruler with a build cost trait

Or you can just be ming and be rich as fuck

Enlightenment: Become a constitutional monarchy/republic and build a university in your capital

eu4 wiki says innovative and employing a natural scientist or philosopher helps out too, I haven't played this far so dunno

Printing press says you start making progress in your capital once you reach diplo tech 15 but thats a big joke, it's 0.08 a month. Would've taken me more than a 100 years that way

When people were talking about how you develop for instutitions I thought they meant that it spread faster earlier.
Also didn't understand why people focused so much on developing capitols in the videos I saw.

I guess since it's the Renaissance and the Printing Press that are the big problems, you should wait with developing your capitol, until those two have begun.
So you don't increase the dev in the capitol too much before the printing press so it's too expensive when it comes around.

Meant to do this yesterday but got distracted, if I stop updating it's because a storm's knocked out my power.

The Weltkrieg ended poorly for the Third Republic. On the second of March, 1919, the Germans began a thunderous assault at St. Mihiel. By the 16th of March we had lost Nancy, by the 26th Rheims. Meanwhile, the capitulation of Italy meant that the road to Marseilles was open to the Austrians, the falling by the onset of Fall. With the army forced south of Paris and the Germans and Austrians preparing for another grand offensive the French army found itself in open rebellion. Pressure by the trade unions, working classes, and even by the upper classes seeking to protect their investments forced Paris to the negotiating table, fully surrendering on October 4th, 1919.

Nearly a year to the day of surrender France found itself yet again in the midst of conflict, this time from within. The Confédération Générale du Travail led by Emile Pouget captured Paris, and the elected government of Clemenceau gave way to that of Briand. This was not to last as Jacobin rebels soon splintered off from the CGT, throwing France headlong into yet another bloody war. When the smoke cleared, the CGT found itself victorious and Pouget proclaimed the establishment of the Commune of France. The great war hero, Field Marshall Foch, rallied like minded anti-Syndicalists and fled to Algiers.

Nationalist France is threatened from within, rising ethnic tensions between the the Catholic French and the Muslim Algerians may spill into open conflict, while the young guard led by General de Gaulle face off with the Bourbon and Napoleonic Legitimists

Getting fucking windy boys, I forgot to throw tarps and tie shit down so expect a big delay.

During the evacuation from the mainland, Foch was not able to rally large portions of the military as he had hoped. While segments of the traditionally conservative navy followed him to Algiers. Marshal Foch was forced to rely on La Coloniale to bolster his ranks. The Troupes de marine hav been a part of the Armee coloniale since its inception, however a recent proposal by many of the nations foremost military minds has made its way to the desk of Prime Minister Petain. With our homeland separated from us by the sea we will be forced to take the beaches in and around Marseilles order to properly shuttle troops to the continent, therefore the proposal calls for the Troupes de marine to made an independent branch of the military. Proponents of plan say this will free the Marines from the shackles of the army's bureaucracy and allow a rapid expansion of the force pursuant to it's own needs. A major voice against this change is Admiral Darlan who claims that doing so will undermine the role and authority of the Navy.

After some thought, Petain puts pen to paper and begins to draft an internal memo to the Chiefs of the Defense Staff.

V2 came out while HOI3 was still a mostly unpatched pile of shit so all the modders ditched HOI3 for V2, bloatice and some decision-based visual novel mods are about the only things that ever got "finished". By the time TFH made the game playable nobody was interested in modding it.

Although a constitution was drafted for the nation Marshal Foch instead suspended it and upon his death appointed Marshal Petain has head of state. The figurehead of the government, General Janin, has managed to draw the ire of both the civilian populace and the government itself. Now, with the Arab Congress fermenting rebellion national unity is more important than ever.

It has been a sleepless night for Petain, an aides would later recount to biographers an incident in which he threatened to have a young servant fired for putting too much sugar in his tea. In his mind ideas swirl about the future of the fragile Fourth Republic.

Now more than ever France needs unity and a strong leader to follow. Petain could replace Janin with the young firebrand Colonel de Gaulle in hopes of rallying the cause of the young guard.

Perhaps what France truly needs is a shot of nobility. In red terror that followed the revolution the Bourbon and Napoleon legitimists sought refuge in Algiers. It would not be the first time a French Republic had been dissolved, and who could possibly attempt to stop a restoration?

In the warm evening of the 21st of June, 1936, The Lion of Verdun forever changed French history.

SRM Jean III stands before the Assembly. The unprecedented return of the Bourbon Dynasty has led to much speculation throughout the nation. The constitution has been suspended for decades, and with Petain gone Jean is now the sole Frenchman who could restore it.

The actions of his ancestor Louis XVI saw the fall of the Kingdom of France and led directly to the First Republic and First Empire, and with them the establishment of the French Constitution. For over a century the citizens of France have grown accustom to their rights, and many of the older citizens yearn to once again enjoy them. In the age of dictators and syndicalism, constitutionalism presents a shining beacon of hope to the world, once again could France be the centre of the ideals of liberty and freedom.

The fresh young minds of France have never known a constitution, a bill of rights, or the machinations of democracy. To receive orders and commands from above is all they know, and for many it's all they're comfortable with. With no constitution to limit the Kings powers, Jean could more effectively rule the Kingdom.

With the constitution permanently suspended, Jean must now appoint a Prime Minister to head the newly formed government. There are three main candidates to choose from.

The inexperienced Admiral Darlan has been in command of the navy for quiet some time now, however many within the military resent him for attempting to curb the expansion of the Marines.

Colonel de Gaulle is a well decorated war hero who earned distinction at the battle of Verdun. In contrast with long standing military theory, de Gaulle is a proponent of independent brigades of tanks supported by motorized infantry. Where as Admiral Darlan is seen as too conservative in his theories, de Gaulle may be seen as too progressive among the old guard.

The third option is to make the interim Prime Minister's position permanent - Charles Maurras.
Maurras was one of the loudest voices calling France into the war and is vehemently anti-German and a zealous anti-Semite. A staunch Catholic, Maurras is the leader of the Action Française, a political party which seeks to blend Monarchism with Integralism and Fascism.

France needs a larger military, and quickly.
Two plans for rapid expansion have been delivered to Chief of Staff Huntziger.

The first plan, from Darlan, proposes that the navy be expanded to control the Mediterranean. Control of the Mediterranean would cut off the flow of supplies from the Socialist Republic of Italy and the Commune of France, as well as protect our own beaches from foreign excursion.

The second plan, from de Gaulle, suggests that we begin conscription of indigenous Africans as well as a massive recruiting campaign for the Foreign Legion. A strong ground force can protect the beaches and be used to invade Sicily or Marseilles.

Admiral Darlan has publicly criticized our expansion of the Foreign Legion, stating that instead of defending ourselves from the might of the Commune we are instead provoking them into open conflict. While he may speak some form of the truth, to openly criticize the government only serves to hurt our public image.

I can only roleplay in CK2. I have several play styles I use depending on my character's stats. Some examples:

It really depends from character to character. I almost always base a child's education focus on their childhood traits.

For example in my republic playthrough, my current character was from a rather distant branch of the family, and was elected when he was 19. He was raised by his uncle, a great commander and a true God-fearing man. When the Caliph declared a Jihad to reclaim Africa for Islam, my character raised near every man of fighting age, touring around to each major city in Sicily; the call was answered as well by his electorate dukes in Cyprus, Krete, and the Cyclades. It was on the sands of the Sinai that he was guided by God himself through the fray to cross swords with the Caliph. The blood of the young Caliph would be but a drop of the Muslim blood he spilled on that day. Despite his hatred of Muslims, he held a benign indifference towards heretical populations within his demesne; nearly a full half of his holdings in Italy could be considered to have been a Cathar majority.

Before that Istakhr (Shiraz) province.
So both of those work.

Shiraz is more in the persian heartlands.

Yazd isn't bad either since it's the final stronghold of zoroastrianism in eu4.

From the beginning. Ally France, build only cavalry and artillery, mobilize. Attack as soon as possible. LEt your allies do the heavy lifting. Be VERY careful about generals (yours and theirs). Either take what you want or fully occupy for long term benefit. It's pretty straightforward.

Think about taking/freeing that bit of Prussia near Baden.
