So I haven't touched CK2 in a year or two.

I tried starting a new game a couple times from both the Old Gods and the Charlemagne starts as different Finnish tribes and holy shit. Not only does the King of Svipjod push into Finland around 20 years in with an army of around 4-6k, there's also the Slavic states to the south that keep getting on my nerves on top of all the different Finnish tribes trying to grab as much land as possible.

How the fuck do I guarantee a steady start?

If DLC matters I'm missing Conclave, Reaper and Horse Lords.

Pick the Become King of Finland ambition and hit first, and hit hard. Eat up weaker tribes first, then finish off the stronger ones before creating the kingdom. By that point you should have the prestige and piety needed to endure Swedish aggression, since Defensive Pagans are mildly OP now.

Took me 11 and a half years to become king and reform the faith, I just blew 1000 prestige on beating up Ilmen but I got it back rather quickly. 800 Piety left over for defending against Swedecucks if necessary.

I'm playing as Christian Iberia in the Charlamange start.

I lucked out and Gisela Karling's husband died of explosive diarrhea a few months after the game started so I was able to marry her. Charlamange himself died a year after in a botched surgery to cure his tuberculosis

So now our kids are in a position to inherit our two kingdoms

But Gisela is a shitty Queen and her empire is already crumbling.

Is there anything I can do to help her? I have an alliance with her but she never calls me into her wars.

I have a very small personal mod I'm using, and I could imagine that throws off the conversion process, though that isn't what I believe is happening. My EUIV and CKII dlcs are all pirated, so it could really be any number of issues.

Honestly it wouldn't be terribly that big of a pain to go and rename every country, but that's far from the only thing wrong with the conversion.
