One uppercut meant death (fadc to 6HK to Ultra for 70% damage), and if it traded it was even worse (the same combo but without spending any meter). This shit was possible because there was not enough options on wake up : normal and quick. And vortex chars had many ways to handle both at the same time.
It got solved in the last version of SF4 with delayed recovery.

Another problem caused by the few wake up options and some hitboxes on particular moves. With the right timing, you could "trick" the game and force your opponent to guard in the wrong direction on wake up with a very precise cross up. The move itself (Jump HK for Ryu for example) is not unblockable, but the game itself will always mistaken and get the guard wrong. It's a bug in short.
Of course it's a frame perfect move but since wake up had fixed recovery time for both normal and quick option, you could easily set up the unblockable after a throw near the corner for example.
Again, this shit disappeared in the last version with the intoduction of delayed wake up.

The ability to hide a throw escape in any ligh crounch moves. If the opponent try to do a move, they get stuffed by the light. If they try to throw, you escape it. So basically, it was a powerfull defensive option which pretty much destroyed the classic "walk up throw" mix up.

But the 8 frames of SF4 was not any of those. It was, for all versions, option select. SF4 is a game where you can OS everything and pretty much everything above work because of OS. At one point, you don't even think about the strategy anymore, you just OS everything. This thing is the reason why the game was so technical heavy and monotonous : there was little to no reflexion, just executing complicated OS one after the other.
