I was going to try and hammer out all 500 yesterday, but I got pretty lazy. I think I estimated about 1m gil for all the mats buying the stuff I need on the market for the item.
It looks like red scripts are used for the augmented gear? Is there something else I can do with them? I've got 2000 blue scripts, so I've been using those to get a couple of pieces of gear. Got the primary and secondary weapon slots for my armor, but I haven't got any more since I realized there's some debate over whats BiS.

you can use red scrips for the augmented gear or the crafter AF (which isnt as good)
itd be really helpful if you leveled miner and could gather your own supplies, crafting gets really expensive if you cant get your own mats
also, for a lot of the random tertiary mats, you can get those from vendors
for example, grenade ash comes from a vendor in limsa for a lot less than itll cost you on the market board

level 55+ crafts lose 10 durability (5 durability for items that would have been 40) and the chance of goods is significantly lower (not sure about excellents).
WWYW is seldom used as far as I know; most people just specialize to be able to craft the newest specialist-only gear. But yes, if you're crafting 55+ gear, you should at least try to get level 60 HQ whites. Melded right side, even if it's not ironworks (but don't waste materia Vs on non-ironworks) would help you a lot too, since you get a lot of CP from that.
Also, byregot's and other level 50 crossclasses will help immensely.

I have CUL at 37 actually, but I don't have CRP at 50. It's going to be a while before I level CRP, thankfully the shitty version of Braygot's has been working for me ok so far even though the CRP version gives an additional chunk of quality. My main problem is getting enough charges of inner quiet before hitting BB, it seems like I fail a lot of 80% HTs and never get good/excellent conditions anymore. Is condition rate tied to stats or a function of level for the item you're trying to make?
So with overmelds, non-script gear is better, but script gear has higher raw stats. I guess I'll grab more script gear for now to save some cash, blue crafting scripts seem dirt cheap anyway and then I can start working on overmelded gear.
