Yeah I guess that 0.35 dispersion and 325 pen APCR round are really nice. 3.33 seconds between each shot in the drum seems really bad, though. Hey /wotg/ new here. I have played years ago and started playing again in the past 3 days. I really know nothing about this game, but I went down the German tank tree mainly. Here's my 3 tanks I play regularly:
>marder 38T (1 piece shy from fully upgraded)
>Luchs (1 piece shy from fully upgraded)
>M2 Medium tank

Since I didn't have a medium tank in the German tree I went with the American for a quick pickup of a t3 medium or better. Am I doing ok with the tech tree or is there better stuff? Any advice on what to do or what tanks are good for a noob like myself?

Those tanks are generally the best to play as a new player, however if you still want to play german tanks i suggest going the 3/4 or up to the 4D to 4H.

I suggest you unlock all the options for the low tier tanks before moving onto the next one unless you know for sure you won't want to come back.

For example, you could have also unlocked the Hetzer and St.Pz. II while you were playing the Marder II. The artillery isn't a big deal but the Hetzer is a fun tank and the more you see them, the more you might want to try playing one.

Get the Panzer 4 H, it's reliable and has the best howitzer for a medium at it's tier which makes it very nooby friendly. Keep the Luchs and Marder for now, but for TD's the Hetzer is easier to play and I would suggest getting that and using it to grind for the tier 5 stug, skipping the tier 4 one.
