Making new threads is spoopy edition
previous ded: >>156691886

The thread is dedicated to all games about building machines and systems out of blocks, in space or otherwise. Also, all these games are ded. Only ded games may join, otherwise they must have their own thread.

WebM for retards:
>gitgud.io/nixx/WebMConverter.git

List of currently known and vaguely not dead /egg/ games (this list is not fully inclusive and if you think a game might belong here, feel free to ask):
>Space Engineers
>StarMade
>Avorion
>From the Depths
>Factorio
>REM
>Robocraft
>Machinecraft
>Homebrew - Vehicle Sandbox
>Besiege
>Infinifactory
>Scrap Mechanic
>Robot Arena 2
>KOHCTPYKTOP: Engineer of the People
>Algodoo
>Empyrion - Galactic Survival
>Chode - Children of Ded Earf

Games that are definitely not /egg/:
>minecraft
>The general that quite literally cannot be named. The Mexican scam artist one. With the shitposters. Fuck off.
>hearthstone, found in the hearthstone general, /hsg/

Information about these games, such as where to get them if they're not on steam, trailers, /egg/ conquered/hosted servers, and other shit can be found in this pad:

Surely you understand that heat radiators are not supposed to glow red-hot.
If they ever reach that point, then the rest of the craft would be approximately the same temperature.
It goes without saying that the crew would find the craft to be somewhat inhospitable.
>>
>>156952546
the crew compartments are shielded from the rest of the components you know
>>
>>156952630
But you can't insulate things perfectly.
Wires, pipes, all that shit would funnel heat into crew compartments.
Not to mention the weaponry and propulsion getting cooked up.
>>
>>156952630
Still, point stands. In any case, it looks rather stupid. They don't need to glow.
>>
I hope you're having a good day, but FUCK YOU
>>
>>156952767
Heh, i wish
>>
>>156952712
Remember that since only convection work in space you only have insulate/cool the strut support between the place you want cool and the one which is cold.

>>156952715
The glow effect is unreal, but the red hot part is quite real, that's already a big step.
If we let that get away we wouldn't need tracer on railgun shell either.
>>
>>156952984
If its going to be SO REEEEAL PHWOAR, then its going to need to drop some gamification bullshit, like tracers in fucking space.

>>156952984
Still, if things glow, they're hot af.
It means that anything that was meant to be cooled off by those things is also hot af.
And I doubt delicate electronics work well or even work at all under anything above 600K.

Also any uninsulated connection between hot place and cold place either boils off, or boils whatever was in cold place.

>>156990158
I should have put "pic unrelated", I guess.
>>
>>156973448
Yeah, but specialisation begins with the ship shape. Tube and dickshaped designs can often profect a over-average amount of firepower forward, while at the same time needing to armor only the smallest part of their profile.

The drawbacks are that I heavily recommend 20% of your weight to be gyroscopes. People sometimes fuck up on that, and tubecruisers really suffer from it.

Furthermore, a design which always is to face an enemy can have a vulnerable back. You can turn the entire back into a thruster panel.

Shapes are pretty important, yo.

I mean, if planets had like, diamond, or thorium, or some kind of special resource you couldn't get in space, then I guess there'd be a point to them. Especially if there was like, a higher-tier drill that needed diamonds, or a hyper-efficient reactor that ran on thorium, but generated very little. Or maybe some kind of super-ranged Jump Drive that ran on alien guts or whatever.

But there's not. And thus, there's no reason for planets. Unless you wanted free oxygen or something

it's a lot more valuable in orbit than it is on Earth. A chunk of iron on Earth is

something like $55 a ton, it currently cost $2.2 million dollars to put a ton in LEO. It is

very difficult to use a mass driver to put a chunk of rock into a defined orbit.

I don't think you can even do that honestly. At the very least you need to do CRAZY

It fought in China and in skirmishes along the Korean borders at the very end of the war in July and August 1st-7th. In fact those very same Soviet formations were part of the impetus to drop the bombs instead of executing Downfall, which would have resulted in significant postwar Soviet influence in the area beyond what already happened and in all likelihood a Soviet North Japan.

And they were still ready in time for the parade, regardless.

Anyway, IS tanks are not about tank hunting. You comfortably and safely fire at enemy pillbox/building and its gone. No need for aviation/artillery calls and infantry suicide attacks. And you can beat the shit from tanks, if you're not too busy.

I can't fully agree.
Firstly, most of the time you rarely can have direct view more than 1-1.5 km (except deserts). So, ballistics at long ranges not really matters. Who fired first - wins.

For example, we have:
BigTiger KwK 43 L/71 PzGr. 39/43 basic AP shell
IS-2 A-19 BR-471 basic AP shell.

PzGr. 39/43 weighs 10.4 kg, penetrates 200mm/90 degrees at 1000m. Has a little more muzzle velocity.
BR-471 weighs 25kg, penetrates 130mm/90 degrees at 1000m. Has MORE kinetic energy.
I tried to imagine beyond-armour effect of 25 kg shell and getting frightened.

The problem was a combination of poor accuracy (hampered both shell types, HE slightly less IIRC) and that despite the kinetic energy it still had less penetration at range. You are right, the secondary effects of such a huge shell impacting were ferocious, but the same effect, increased by an entire magnitude, could be achieved with a direct or even near strike with HE. Where the nonpenetrating but massive AP shell would rock the vehicle, crack the armor and shake things loose inside the tank, an HE would do the same but leave the vehicle nearly inoperable and the crew incapable of fighting.

Do you mean that you don't define /egg/ being /egg/ during low post hours or /egg/ autisming on things that aren't specifically games doesn't qualify as shitposting to you?

Or are you triggered by this and think /egg/ should only discuss games?

Because that one buttmad faggot who showed up a few months back doesn't understand the difference between /egg/ being /egg/ and shitposting and often conflates the two, calling stuff that has very much /egg/, /kspg/, and dismisses CLANG as a stupid meme, and he needs to fuck off, and he's the only one who's been complaining about shitposting recently.

They added steam engines. If you set the boiler to 0.25, it generates power without using material (steam engines run on material). Sure, you only get enough power for a small prop. but that's more than enough for a crappy boat.

I use back facing propellers below the hull, i can get decent speeds ~18m/s.

>Roll, pitch and altitude PID blocks
>In a boat
Literally why?
>Roll
the base is wide enough to keep the roll always between -1 and 1
>Pitch
The boat is long enough to make it negligible. Even with the big props below the front turret i don't get pitch.

Alright, this is getting to some ridiculous levels. The rotation speed of the crankshafts now is 42800 degrees/second and growing. Doing basic math to convert it to RPM we have that:
(42800 *60)/360 = 7133.33 RPM

I need to add more boilers

I've added 7x127.8m^3 boilers on the bottom floor and hooked them to the existing ones. We're getting rotation speeds over 100k degrees per second and climbing. May CLANG have pity on our souls.
No, really, the boilers (the big ones) have an internal pressure over 25000. I don't know what this means, but if it's atmospheres, this should be enough to be used as a MDW
>>

>>
>>157084448

Kilopascals probably. kPa
25000 kPa is 3625 psi or about 250 atmospheres.
>>
>>157084248
>>
>>157084846
That makes sense.
Status update: Big boilers are at 50 kPa and climbing
Crankshaft rotation speed: 25200 degree/second
kinetic energy 78000 (this is the one props, jets and wheels use)
>>
>>157084781
degrees/second / 360 = rotations per second

rotation per second * 2* pi *radius = distance per second

deg/sec / 360 *2 *pi *.4 = linear speed
>>
>>157085205
276000/360*2*pi*.4 = 1926.84349m/s.
Wew lad. Hypersonic crankshaft.
>>
>>157084781
.00698 times degrees/second equals meters per second.
0.00698131700797731830769476307395
c is of course 299792458, and would require a bit under 42 billion degrees per second to reach.
The speed of SOUND though. That's just 343.2m/s. A hair under 50k degrees per second. Your crankshaft is rotating at mach fucking three.

What mod broke solar panels to produce -2.2 million megawatts?
>>
>>157091580

Yes, the AI is currently retarded as absolute fuck. Everyone in the game complains about it. But FYI you fight 99.99% AI enemies until you reach level 10, and then you start facing human players. Probably to prevent new players from getting ground into the dirt by actual players.

Once you hit level 10 youll start being matched with players around your same Power Score rating. 3500-4000 PS seems to be the sweetspot where most players hang out. But the playerbase is pretty small, so some days you get matches made entirely of actual players on both teams, and other days you have 1 or 2 players on each team, with the rest being AI bots. Hopefully the population goes up once they get rid of the retarded "pay us money to get into our F2P beta".

I can answer pretty much any questions you have about the bullshit in the game.

Also invite me. Crunk_Prime

Yeah, Autocannons sort of suck dick. They dont do any meaningful damage unless you have two of the damn things, and even then their damage output is still pretty low.

You pretty much have to boat a single weapon type to do any good in Crossout. Mixed weapon builds seem to be pretty lackluster. A guy with a 76mm cannon turret and 2 medium machine guns will get fucking rekt by a guy with two 76mm cannon turrets.

Also Lunatic armor is OP as fuck. Its super light weight, meaning you can just spam the shit out of it all over your car and still go really fast. And it also has a special effect that lets some damage pass through because the amor is just bars and gaps. What this does is let the armor last even longer than other factions armor because it doesnt take full damage from hits, since some goes through.

Its why all the best builds in the game are just fucking bricks of lunatic armor with 10 wheels, because they just wont fucking die unless you have several people focus fire on them.

I wasn't aware. The worse I've seen is this one guy with a lunatic armor block with 6 boomsticks in the front and a cloak.

He'll cloak and ram players on the side, usually instakill 1 or 2 players every match, shits frustrating.
>>
>>157105376

Yeah the boom sticks are annoying as fuck, but luckily they can be shot off, and are only one time use.

Also the game doesnt mention it fucking anywhere, but things like spikes/bumpers/plows are extremely resistant to explosions and enemy melee weapons like sawblades/augers.

So always try to throw down bumpers and spikes and shit around your vehicle, because they really help you survive attacks from melee builds.

Ive had numerous times where some faggot with augers or saw blades and a boomstick trys to hit me and they just helplessly grind against my spikes while my cannons slowy turn towards them and blow them the fuck out with a shot to the cabin.

How did that work? Did it only apply to bought/manufactured parts? Did you have to pay money to fix it?

Either way I'm glad they got rid of it.
>>
>>157108172
Yes. I remember using all of my radios, head lights, lifters, etc. to grind points. I remember this one guy who would always put five+ fuel tanks on his rig and got get one shot every match. Seen him 10 matches in a week. Another guy would do the same thing but would kamikaze into you, but only to get his front end blown off. Those were the times.
>>
>>157108525

It was only on manufactured parts, but holy shit it sucked dick.

Blue parts had something like 30 durability to them, and every time you lost a battle you would lose one point. And since fights are usually under 5min, you could blow through that durability pretty quickly. Once a part hit zero durability points you could still use it, but it would have 1hp and reduce all your earnings in battle. You basically had to build a new part every time your durability started getting low, and when you started going up in levels and having lots of manufactured parts all over your machine it was a nightmare to try and maintain anything.

>oh no, my 6 wheels are low on durability, gonna have to replace those, whoops my cannon is down too, and my 3 machine guns only have 10 durability left, fuck my radars low too, etc, etc, etc

If you change your tgts in your change MC6000 to 4 and 0 respectively, there's no need to sub 1 (and you can get rid of the MC4000)

There's probably some kind of hack to get the change module down into an MC4000 as well (it's 10 lines and only uses the accumulator) while keeping your architecture substantially intact, but I'm not seeing it.

Wait, the engines don't even have a speed torque curve?

Gentlemen I present to you the ULTIMATE CAR BUILDAN GAME:
The DARPA FANG competition. DARPA had a competition to crowdsource the design of an amphibious APC. You had to use blocks which modeled engines, drive shafts, suspensions, treads, power electronics, door controllers, EVERYTHING to build up a tank. Everything got scored through their videogame like interface. I'd almost liken it to Shenzen I/O with mechanical engineering components and programming languages that don't suck. The winners, a team of 3 people, got $1 million dollars and DARPA built the damn thing

Trials have shown that armouring one face, with inset weapons, and ample gyroscopes is a much more feasible way to concentrate survivability and firepower at the same time. Multi-angle attacks are possible, but can be countered with micro jumps and maneuvering. In a fictional scenario, you'd have a point, but in the face of probability and reality, a fat armour wall with guns all over will fare better than a ship that wastes weight and guns on sections that cannot engage and are not damaged.

Of course, the whole piston/rotor assembly is prototype-tier.
In practice, the blueprint would be pulled by a tug.

Using gravity would not work, as the blueprint in its early stage cannot stop as it'll either lack thrusters or power.
In survival, welding speed is a significant limitation, and pulling the blueprint too quickly ends up in a useless mess of unfinished blocks.
>>
>>157140062

I more meant gravity to move it off the construction line and out of the way, but if you've got a tug planned then that works too.

a good version of spore would be less like 5 genres blended into one and focus more on the creature stage and unlocking new abilities as you go along

probably the cell stage should be about building your body plan, while the other stages should be more about the interaction of individual creatures at various levels of social development

so rather than "tribal" stage being an RTS all of a sudden, it would be more like manipulating the dynamics of large amounts of individuals and simply extending the creature stage with that
>>
>>157156101
>spore
>actual evolution
>fun

also a big part of the problem is that shortly before release they ditched part stacking, so in the creature creator demo you can go faster by adding more legs, but in the final game as long as you have a single one of the fastest leg it's all purely cosmetic, and the dna limit encourages conservative designs rather than creative ones then

doesn't make any sense to remove gameplay like that

Nope. Huge guns got a huge buff:

A autoloaders reload time is reduced by the square root of it's length, so 4m reload twice as fast as before. Shields can't be projected though other shields, and shields not block based on tangent velocity, not angle of hit. So show shells ignore them more often.

Mini-guns suck now. SC-HE-FRAG-Ifuse-Powder is the new meta.

I doubt it will ever move, given current state of rotors on serb.
But yes, that's the idea, I've already tested and the rotors can withstand the two thrusters at max thrust override.

Currently features 16 hinges (for the flaps on the back of the thrusters), 4 rotors, 6 wheels.
Thrust is 2x level4 thrusters on each side.

It looks like shit, I should have made the thrusters longer, and I have no idea on how to design the actual part where you sit.

I just want to see if it works.

Forgive him, he's just uninitiated.
CLANG is the God that gives us motion and engineering beyond those plebeians and heretic games that have no moving parts.
But just like He gives life, so He takes it whenever He feels the time is right.
Praise Him, and bask in His glory, accepting His blessings and gifts.
