When you lose to a boss, it is usually bad RNG instead of you making a wrong decision.

It is basically rock-paper-scissors (Power-Speed-Technique). Monsters have different preferences.
Tigrex likes to choose Power, Agnaktor likes Technique, etc.
You want to fight Agnaktor with Tigrex because Power beats Technique.

However, it is just a preference, so you are fucked if the Agnaktor insists on choosing Speed instead of Techinque, what it prefered.
You partner is also AI-controlled, so even if the Agnaktor chooses Technique move, your Tigrex may not choose Power move.

The rider is also pathetic, if the boss monsters focus on you, you will get one-shot multiple times and triple cart.

You want to go for Kirin for the white sharpness and one extra slot compared to Astalos DBs. Khezu DBs have para as well, I think, so it'd be more useful in multiplayer but at that point you might as well be running Deathprize.

It's 33% of all attack. Even Mega Demondrug + Might Seed get boosted up provided you ate them before you use Enraged Guard.

AuL is 20 attack. 26.6 with Enraged Guard active.

Talking obviously about Enraged Guard III.

Hellglave weapons are 200 raw so AuL is like a 10% increase in damage. With Hellglaive spear, eating for attack and no AuL and using Silverwing set, eating for Mega Drug and Seed I easily hit 314 attack when I block a powerful attack.

WE is 40% critical I believe to weak spots.

I like the idea of some Elder Dragons being powerful only because they're biologically unstable, with too many Elements or energy boiling away inside them (Alatreon, Gogmazios) that it makes them unhinged, deformed, and/or partially prismatic/glowing but this one here seems a bit much. Its Chimeric but in the wrong way, imo.

Now I know GL is supposed to be utter shit in Gen but I just have too much fun using it, and the heat gauge looks interesting despite its apparent flaws.
Whats the best Hunting Style for GL? I've been trying out Striker so far cause I heard rumours that having three hunter arts is the only way to make the weapon decent.
I'm going to check out the pastebin but are there any tips anyone could personally recommend for GL?

The technically objectively best style is adept with hell meme weapon I guess.
I like Long GL more though, so I use Striker with Blast Dash and Absolute Readiness to stay on the monster's ass. Last art is kinda whatever. I put Dragon's Breath just in case I mess up heat gauge lock but as I get better at managing it I feel like I don't need it as much.
You generally just want to lock heat gauge at red asap and forget about it forever.
I mean I guess it is fun, I've been playing GL since forever, but it can never get past shitty. It's really apparent when you try to fight Brute Wyverns and then you will know how bad things truly are.

Normal + Adept is a common combination.

Long + Striker I suppose also works if you want another poke and no slams.

Considering Wide gets a boost on charged shots and takes a penalty to full-bursts, I'm not so sure what would be ideal for it.

Heat gauge is mostly a nerf that at best yields in 5% more damage than in 4U

Its really only listing what each Style does for GL, no actual tips (also its technically wrong about Striker, claiming it doesn't allow Overhead Smash and a Full Burst at all; Blast Dash allows both)

Best hunting style?

>Striker
Faster arts gauge. You'll have to rely on either Evasion+2 or Guard+2 then and Absolute Evasion / Readiness. The 3 GL arts of which only Blast Dash offers something new. Dragon Blast is weakish and Dragons Breath is just a cheap way to keep yourself in the red without wyvernfiring, if poking is your cup of tea instead. The art locks the heat in place but it's not needed at all, but again helps if you're not at all about managing the gauge with shelling AND poking.

The best thing about Striker is that it's the classic gunlance from Freedom Unite, meaning 3 pokes and no slow ass fucking slam.

>Adept
Best one. Adept block frees you from having to use guard or evasion but combos up them too. There are certain monster you'll want to use adept on like Rathalos or monster that are relentless. The counter from the adept is good in motion values and with an opening you can go into full burst. Becoming good with the block means you're unkillable by monsters, but only if you become good with it. As a tip I'd like to add that you can adept block multiple fast attacks and the window to do the hit is very long and you can hit in any direction right after and evade out of it fast.

Only good with an Aerial armor set. It's spammy and you spend most of your time just slamming and gets boring. Only viable on monsters that are retarded and don't face you often. Great against asshole mobs too like Plesioth and Lavasioth because they are rather weak to mounting and stay still. It's a good hunting style if you have Load Up and Artillery Expert with a Normal Lv4 GL. All Aerial attacks cannot bounce so sharpness isn't even an issue. The major CON is you'll look like a retard playing like this and you're wide open constantly.

It's that shitty MH3 slam version. Overall most boring gunlance in the game. If you can live without adept block or strikers very fast art building then by all means, gimp yourself with this shit.

How do I do the charge blade cancel? I always whiff it and do the full ultimate move and waste all my phials and red charge. People keep saying to pull back and hold X+A but I fucking fuck it up every time. It's the main reason I can't get good with the weapon. Also, back is relative to your control scheme. Check "Orientation" in the options screen. If it's Type 1, you have to tilt the circle pad in the opposite direction your character is facing. I like my Silverwing set on my Striker Lance. Evading through attacks and using high raw lance has never been so much fun. My talisman has +6 Latent Power so I gemmed in Latent Power +1, which is like a free dash pot. I almost always activate it at the same time as Enraged Guard. 65% crit rate with Hellblade Lance. What more do I fucking need for this lance style?

I finally experienced gunner hell.

Had one of those LBG that rapid fires crag shots. Went in gunz blazing to solo a deviant multi-hunt quest.

I fucking ran out of ammo on the 2nd deviant monster. The hunt took fucking 38 minutes because I ended up using Normal Shots.

I've never felt so weak in my life. I swear normal lvl 1 does less damage than just throwing rocks at the faggot.

It was the deviant bear one level 6 or 7. Armor set is mixed with Artillery Expert, Ammo Saver, Load Up, Pierce Up and one more skill, I forget. Mixed set I put together because I wanted to EXPLODE SHIT UP. Even brought max amount of items to combine more crag lvl 1, but fuck me I ran out anyway.

I am someone who has never played Monster Hunter before.
I have a 3ds (and a shitty PC).

Which entry should I start with?
Do I miss anything important if I just play Generations?
Are the differences between 3 and 4 big enough that If I start from 3, later entries will feel fresh?
Does any of the entries differ a lot from the others (like dunno, enhanced story mode)?

The reason I am trying it now is that I recently played the two God Eater games and I enjoyed them, so I figure I will probably like MH too.

you dont miss much if you start with gen, because it brings a lot of stuff back, hence the name

4 adds in new stuff and so does generations, so yeah, things will feel different if you progress from 3u to gen

the basic principles of the games are the same but they have their differences.

4U has the objectively best story if only because it's the only one that actually tries to have any sort of coherent one.
The difference between 3 and 4 is a pretty good size, new weapons, new terrain shape design, slightly faster pace, among other things.
Gen is a pretty weak title and generally considered shit, but it's the most casual so if you just want to play for giggles I guess it's ok at best. You run out of things to do very quickly and you won't miss THAT much from not playing it. Gen is the most popular with the most people playing right now so if you want multi go with Gen, but even that is already dropping pretty quickly because >no endgame.

So play 3U and 4U.

Load up is nice since they changed it to give 5 phials from yellow charge instead of just adding another phial to the max. Personal preference really, I like it myself.

Who /freedfromtheshacklesofminmaxing/ here? I built for the best mixes in the last three games but now I'm just using what I think looks good. Currently using drilltusk with gunlance, I like it. The skills aren't super effective but man that drilltusk set looks nice.
