If you seriously think characters in BB are only differentiated by their Drive, then you're being really silly. You can remove the Drive for many characters and they would still play differently from eachother, and the ones that you can't are generally similar to stance characters in that it changes their mode and moveset.

Drive really just adds another layer to what's already there, it doesn't serve as the only thing that makes them different. The comparison to V-trigger is really terrible, since SFV as a whole is extremely homogenized, especially when compared to something like BlazBlue.

Honestly actually the V-Trigger comparison is fairly legitimate, maybe a bit more V-Skill. The D button is just a way to make character mechanics more blatant to casual players by giving them a universal input, the vast majority of them could be done without it just like how SFV often hides existing moves behind V-whatever.

You can even imagine this by thinking of how GG characters would work in BB. Sin would eat with D, Eddie would be controlled with D, Ky's Dust and grinder summon would be 6D and 5D respectively, Jam's charging would be direction+D, Faust would be Platinum, Johnny would do coin moves with D, Ram would control swords with D, etc.

Making Drives into motions wouldn't do anything. You think that binding fucking Hakumen's counter, Izayoi's stance, or making Taokaka's flying shit become any more "complex" by having a motion to them? The moves are already balanced around being single inputs, so you literally gain nothing in exchange. Would a stance change normally be a qfc or whatever in some other game? Certainly, but it wouldn't add anything to the character itself, or make the character any harder to play. For cases like Hazama, it directly conflicts with their design, and requires changes on the rest of the moveset to even mesh.

Again, those things are completely fucking unnecessary and add jack shit to the character. They straight-up wouldn't put him in fucking GG with this type of moveset because it'd be completely counter-intuitive. Zato has negative edge for an actual reason, because Eddie remains a seperate entity so being able to do the commands of that while doing the commands for Zato himself is crucial.

For Hazama, it's an arbitrary design choice to bloat up his fucking moveset. You're switching out flexibility for something completely unnecessary.

Unlikely. Lots of people hated SFIV like the plague, and seem to enjoy SFV a bit more just for that reason.

Anyway, it's just not anime games. Sfv is guilty as well. In sfiv, the FA system and the oki was terrible but the emphasis on spacing and whiff punishing was still there. Capcom's idea to make the game appeal to newcomers was to weaken these aspects of the game by making dashes hard to react to, jumpin's and jump arcs hard to aa, and reducing recovery on key normals that would normally be very whiff punishable.

I noticed people (especially here and on r/kappa) hope that the balance changes after the CPT will shift the tone of the game so much to the point of fixing most of its issues.

Don't expect that. It has been like that since the beta days, and nothing happened with the release build. You'll be heavily disappointed if you truly expect a strong shift in the gameplay. They'll likely just stick to simple nerfs/buffs and call it a day.

Just appreciate it for what it is or if you really can't accept the game for what it is simply play something else.
