It's a terrible game and no mod can improve it. The Black ice team tried, but it ended up being bloat, just like everything they've ever done. The KR team are updating KR for it, but many of the development team refused to even try, citing the lack of compatibility for HoI4. For example, the dynamic events KR for DH pivoted on can't be done with HoI4 as it uses a very structured system of progression. As such only the worst KR developers are working on it, so it's DoA.

Interesting actually, it was an Ethiopian Jewish Kingdom created around the time of Axum in 325, it technically existed around the 1444-1627 period in EU4, but it's not present as an independent state. Get a morale or a disc advisor.
Bait the enemy to attack you while you're standing on a mountain with a river running through it.
Use nobility to get a decent general.
Get ideas that gives you disc, combat ability, morale and leader skill.
Get idea groups that lets you activate policies with disc, combat ability, morale and leader skill.
Get max flank cav.
Keep your infantry at combat width +x.
Keep in mind that mountains have -50% combat width, so you can hold out with fewer troops.
Have reinforcements ready in a nearby province, don't doomstack and waste morale like a babby AI.
Learn when to buy mercs.
Snipe the enemies stragglers.
Move into a province with defensive terrain that the AI is moving into, but make sure to get there a day before he does, by moving from a province that is closer and/or adding a good maneuver general after the AI is locked in its track.
