First you go protect 3 skritts, then come back, do the treasure event, then come back and protection is up again by that time. You can do them non-stop over and over and they don't take much time or effort to complete.

I started this up last night for the first time since I bought it in 2012. Started a completely new character and played up to level 16, 100% Queensdale completion. Is there a more efficient way to level than doing all the Hearts as they appear? Because holy shit are they boring.

I would suggest to hop into world versus world if your sever is active and follow the commander (should be a blob of people). Take a weapon to tag as many enemies as possible and build your character tanky.
You'll get tons of tomes of knowledge (level up item).
Later on play WvW until you have enough tomes to level up characters to 80 from scratch and never bother with starting areas again. I hate them too.

It depends exactly what you mean by solo PvE. If you plan to run around the open world and still run into other people, then I second revenant as a strong choice. If you want to be completely selfish then necro might be another option, depending on what playstyle you want.

Well honestly anything's viable if you build it right and live dangerously enough. Warrior (Berserker or Viper's) is always going to be good, Scepter/Torch is currently god-tier dps for Guard, Viper Necro is our lord and savior (AND REAPER WILL NOT LEAVE PVP DOMINANCE), Rev is overhyped I feel, it's got good features but it really plays out like it's supposed to shine in fractal/raid content, which it does. Chronomancer is memes, Scrapper is memes, Daredevil is ultra dangerous memes, and if you're playing elementalist I can only assume you like to die.
