Sonic and friends will show up in the real world and help him with his mundane upper middle class white people problems, like getting that promotion at the advertisement firm he works at, and getting the equally bland girl of his dreams. Played up to Big Swell and then stopped. Based on consensus I only missed emmowold grinding, the true final boss, and the twist being "EGGMAN AND NEGA WERE BEHIND IT ALL ALONG WOW WHO KNEW"

Had fun though. Marine, Captain Whatever, and Johnny were fun characters and the level design was really solid. I have yet to play Rush though.

Personally I do not like the comics because of the horrible characterization that happens in them. I believe Ian is a bad character writer as he seems more event and status quo driven than anything else, usually looking at the end goal way before he should and completely forgetting that the ride and journey can and sometimes should be better than the destination.

The FFs who aren't named Sonic have very little motivation or characterization outside of what they say a lot of the times and even before the reboot Ian demonstrated a very lacking display of skill when writing characters as per example with the entireity of the Iron Dominion arc, Fiona, Rosemary, Tails and to a point even Sally who all suffered either from character displacement where what they said and what they did were almost completely different or in the case of Tails faced complete and utter stagnation.

At the same time I honestly cannot say that he isn't biased towards the characters he does write. He seems more intent on building the world around the FFs rather than building the FFs themselves as a lot of side characters seem to have more goals and defining traits than the FFs themselves and characters like Mighty, Sonic, Knuckles and Shadow seem to have their character traits cranked up at a constant rate of 11. While admittedly Sonic's character seems to have suffered from poor characterization as well with the recent and poorly demonstrated Werehog powers he still seems to have at least twice as much character than anyone else around him besides aforementioned and maybe Amy.

Please no Haterino on my opinionino.

I feel like Ian lets himself get torn between the source material and the fan base. On one hand, the source material demands that the comic be more event and status quo driven instead of character driven. On the other hand, the fans like the Freedom Fighters and want them to stay. I think there's a very reasonable way to solve this issue after Unleashed ends. Here's what I was thinking

>Sally gets disillusioned after realizing how many times she got her friends killed because of what she thinks is her poor judgement. So in a state of distress, she disbands the Freedom Fighters and goes back to being a normal princess (This can last as long or short as you want) until she gains some self confidence

Very true, although with Bunnie, Sonic is more likely to run into her looking for her parents/family after Unleashed is done. But something like you envisioned is how I see things going for a while. They got everyone together for the big mission, now things will die down, Sally fills in for Daddy, and everyone does their own thing. Kind of reminds me of the post Adventure adaptation days where everyone just kind of did whatever

Sally is actively better off in terms of characterization than she ever was pre-reboot (At least post endgame), Cream and Blaze I will give you reluctantly, and Big's characterization in the comics is pretty much 1:1 to the games and he's never been a character with any real motivations. He's like Sonic in that he just "is".

And Tails, well Tails as a character has a lot of issues, some of which come from the comic, but a lot of which come from the games. He's a character that needs a lot of work the comic can't deliver on because of its limitations

I'm not going to say she was good in Preboot because she had all the baggage of Pre-Ian writer's shitfest but at least she had motivations and justifications. You could understand why she did what she did even though she was fucking retarded at times.

As of right now we have no idea why she's the leader of the FF's other than because she's the princess and everyone just let's her be what she wants. She has no real character motivation outside of "tragic past" and her relationship with her teammates is literally non-existent outside of Nicoles.

So literally only 1-2 of the Freedom Fighters have any sort of character even if we if settled on what you said.
Given I will say that Tails' problem extends a bit further than the comic but he can still be his own character and in fact there has been amble of times when Ian could have shown it when Sonic was away but he didn't.

And none of this is even going into the fact that we don't even know what the FF's think of eachother outside of Bunnie relationship with Antoine and Tails which provide problems in their own right.

I'm being serious. Fixing them would require too much focus on certain characters, taking away screentime from characters like Sonic, Tails, or other main characters. They have too little to work with for main characters, but enough to work with for background characters. Make them characters that show up every once in a while for a one off plot like say, Lupe and be done with it.
I think it's a perfectly reasonable solution. People complain that the FFs get too much prominence, so this would fix that

Loyalty to friends and he gets to build anything he wants. Justified in that the other FFs took him in when he was all by himself in the world and actually appreciated his inventing unlike he's oppressive father.

Loyalty to friends. Justified in that they were the ones that inspired her to be more than just an AI and to try to become a real person and they continue to teach her how to be one.

Loyalty to friends. Justified in that they've helped him save his best friend Froggy and are just plain nice to him.

>Cream
Loyalty to friends and wanting to prove herself. Justified in that Sonic saved her and her mom and she wanting to be like her friends who are all brave heroes.

>Blaze
To protect her world and friends. Justified in that she is the princess and guardian of the Sol Emeralds and Sonic and co. helped her on many occasions.

Besides the fact that his character arc is on fucking repeat and will never take the next step, he doesn't have as much to him as he should. Next to Sonic and Eggman, he's the most important character, but in terms of characterization, he has the least out of the main 4 and even less than characters like Shadow. Outside of his tech skills, he doesn't have much in the way of character.- I guess it'd be better understood if I laid it out
