The characters. It's a common mistake to draw them like cardboard cutouts, all you need to do is study basic depth and shading to make them "pop out" more, know what I mean?

Well, I've been doing perspective studies, though of course once you start inking you lose that 3D aspect I feel. Shading is something I need to work on but I'd rather get the fundamentals and form down before moving on to that. Someone suggested drop shadows as basic thing, I could add that but I'd rather not work on an image forever. You do have to say something's done otherwise you'll do it forever.

Of course her plans shouldn't work out all the time. There wouldn't be any tension if they did. However, her plans almost never work out, and she almost never comes up with a improvised or backup plan to make up for it. Instead, the other characters' competency just fills in for her incompetency. She also doesn't act much like a strong leader. She always seems unsure of herself or guilty for failing. This would make sense if the reboot had started from the very beginning of the series, but it's been many, many adventures for Sally to hone her leadership skills.

Sally would be best if she was just written like she was in the early comics. Leader of the Freedom Fighters, snarky but in the friendly sense, competent but not to Mary Sue levels, banters with Sonic but it's still clear he doesn't really take orders from her, ability to indicate when someone is far downwards inside of fermented milk products.

Anything that doesn't feel natural in transition is just dumb storytelling. You're also trying to change a character that the majority are already fine with.

Another option has already been presented, which is to return her to the early 90s characterization. While that would be a bit of a retread, it'd be preferable both to what we have now and your laughable excuse of a "solution."

Maybe it's because I grew up watching ReBoot, but I have no idea why people struggle when it comes to having a strong female leader character presented as the equal of the male hero protagonist without being overbearing or overshadowing. It's not as difficult as people make it out to be.
