I've really never met someone IRL who really puts ANY thought at all into looking at a game critically, sad to say.

Most of my High School friends were CoD kids who spat on Halo first and foremost because it wasn't *realistic*. They adored CoD because it was "realistic" and because adverts tell them that CoD is the best game ever, and they believe them without hesitation.

One of the few people who didn't play exclusively CoD (and sports games) was something of an Alien and/or Predator fanatic. And when I mentioned that the Aliens: Colonial Marines game had sorta bombed his sole complaint was "Yeah... the graphics weren't that good."

Overall, I think the story for 4 was good. It showed human side of Chief, had good development, and the Didact was cool. Now on to 5.

The forerunner wouldn't glass a planet until getting any holy artifacts off the planet correct?

And they had Mendicant Bias (the Oracle) to help them find the artifacts on each planet and track them, correct?

So why was Meridian glassed when there was a Guardian underneath it? The Guardians are the greatest Forerunner weapons next to the Halo rings and the Composer. Wouldn't the covenant come across them at least once and want to find more of them?

I wouldn't put too much emphasis on Microsoft's role in this. Brian Reed was the writer and we all know how much a hack he is after Spartan Ops and Escalation.

That said, the advertising had me genuinely interested in the story and the whole dual-narrative, uncover the mystery thing that was supposedly going to happen. That such an emphasis was shone on these aspects of the game during advertisement, only to turn up COMPLETELY missing in-game, makes me think they actually had something interesting going on until, I dunno, someone spilled coffee on the computers and wiped out the whole thing I guess.

Not even close. Reach was still very colorful, just a tad darker. Nowhere near COD levels. It worked well with the UNSC and planet reach's militaristic industrial setting. Remove the film grain filter and it would look even better.
