I'm not sure that's true, though. I've played enough of Gen to be close to it's endgame and i'm still not sure how i feel about styles. Maybe it's because Gen is overall a weaker game, but i don't know.

I played 4U again today for a few hours and had plenty of fun without styles/arts, even if i struggled re-adjusting to G-rank a little bit.

I just don't know if this is the route i want the series to go, and that really worries me.

I don't know about anyone else, but i think styles would work much better if the differences between each were more subtle.
Look at guild/striker, they're still pretty similar in terms of playstyle. Striker is better for hunter arts, while Guild gets some extra moves.

I'd be lying if i said i haven't had fun with aerial/adept, but i think they're too much. Adept blocks feel fine, mostly. But the dodging aspect... i'm not so sure. I liked aerial at first, but eventually it just started feeling like a jump-fest and acted like a crutch if i used it too much.

I dunno, hopefully some more "subtle" changes for styles would help, not that i have much of an idea of how they should specifically be changed. Doesn't seem like that's how the series is gonna go, though.

Didn't see any coal hearted autism rooms up so I'm making one. Eat for explorer if you want, I don't care.

Yeah, Aerial and Adept are too gimmicky. Striker does add in some subtle additions for various weapons which is probably what the system would be best for, but unfortunately it's probably not the first thing to come to mind when people rag on the system. Though I suppose it probably doesn't help that Striker is either straight up better or worse than Guild for a given weapon.

Well, it all depends on what moves you lose for striker, and how good the HAs are. Each one is probably better for certain monsters as well.

That's what i don't like about aerial/adept. I don't feel like there's a monster they'd be better/worse for. they more or less work alright for most monsters, or feel outright overpowered in with certain fights.

The ideas for the styles are nice, better aerial attacks, and more options for countering, but the implementation didn't do enough. Maybe aerial could have you get in the air through a combo that starts on the ground, rather than jumping whenever you please.
I don't like the "dodge and counter" of most adept weapons. "Countering" attacks in some form or another is good, but the dodge and run feels way too gimmicky.

Adept was built for gunners. Most times when I try adept with a blade the monster is long gone from the counter run or in the air negating the point.

However with the improved hitboxes on most monsters when I do go adept gunner more often than not I easily dodge anyway so the whole counter thing is pointless.

They'll either iron it out in 5 or ditch it for some new gimmick so we can bitch about that on a Chinese tea serving ceremony forum.

They better put in a new gunner weapon and it better be a boomerang.

Maybe ammo is unlimited, but they all have a boomerang affect. Different weapons can have more effective versions of cutting/ko damage, kind of like how different bows/guns have different levels of ammo.

Realistically, maybe a Medium Bowgun like in Tri or something, but really how would you go doing one so it's not essentially a better or worse LBG/HBG?

Maybe a 'Lancegun' that's a beefed up GL trading shield and minimized melee capabilities for more varied shelling could work, but honestly the GL itself does need more love already.

With DBG you get the rapid fire of LBG but the lack of power of HBG
It would be much better for element or status.

Cannon is easy enough that it's all power with a few trick shells.

Boomerang seems like the best option though since we already have the ground work with Prowlers. It was even a brief concept.

I mean, he's a Brute Wyvern, which means he's going to be really good at circling around you. It's just a matter of learning his patterns. That's really it.

Fighting him in 3U and 4U with SA was all about realizing when he was doing something that you could evade through, and how to position yourself relative to him. For example, his dragon breath is a huge opening if you're close to him; just stand under his arms and wail away while he breathes everywhere. I should mention that if you're not going to use Adept, Tremor Resist (or a shield, depending on what you're using) goes a LONG way. It trivializes a lot of Jho's annoying moves.

He's also really susceptible to traps and tainted meat; don't be afraid to abuse them. He also tires out really easily, if you're using something with exhaust. And make sure you have dung bombs, he likes to pin.

Don't get too mad at Jho. He gets the better of all of us, and I'm still not even that good at him despite having fought him since 3U.

Watch some of GaijinHunter's tutorials on YouTube. People shitpost about him a lot, but he goes over every move you can do, their motion values (the percentage of damage an attack does based on the weapon's "true raw"), and how they combo. Good stuff for beginners.

unsheathed X>X>A>X>X>A>etc is your basic loop. X+A to reposition yourself as need be. R to use your demon guage(it doesn't need to be full, just being full increases your ATK). The last hit of your demon combo will sharpen your edge and raise it to white. Yellow if achieved when blade is while and to red if achieved when blade is yellow. X+A>R will shorten the demon combo by one press. Do your best to maintain Red blade. Sakura slash is optional, but not required.
