One glaring AI problem was their inability to defend against naval invasions, which made it easy for Germany, the USSR, etc. to war the UK as early as possible (Oct 1936), which broke the game in several ways (preemptive destruction of one of the few late-game "challenges" and immediate naval invasion access to the USA).

So, the RNG Map/History generator is pretty neat.

Question, I'm playing Aquleia the theocracy next to Venice. I've managed to take the eastern side of the Italian peninsula but the Barvarian Holy Roman Emperor has given me the "unlawful territory" event which has turned Ferrara and Verona completely useless and with high revolt risk.

One of the problems about giving up these provinces is that without them I can't quickly move troops through my territory. That and I have no diplo annex so I don't really want to vassalize or give up provinces.

So my question is, if you core those provinces does it cancel the "unlawful Imperial territory" negative effect? A possible war with Bavaria isn't an issue since I have Bohemia as my ally who does most of the work.

Alright, can we put the memes aside for a moment and all agree that, for what it set out to do, HoI4 is a success? It gave us a WWII grandstrat free from all the archaic bullshit of Darkest Hour, and also much easier to get into then HoI3. Can anyone here honestly say they enjoy wasting an hour to fix their OoB every time they start a game of HoI3? Not to mention that, rather than needing to tediously micromanage industry like in other HoI games, HoI4's industry is both streamlined as well as more intuitive than the previous games. Yeah, it's true that HoI4 leads to more "ahistorical" scenarios, but isn't that the point? Why even bother playing the game if the outcome is predetermined form the start? Moreover, from a pure gameplay perspective, giving the player more options, whether they be historical or ahistorical, is a total success. Sure, Mosley ruling Britain never could have happened in reality, but it's fun to have the ability to easily do so in video game form.

Overall, I feel that HoI4 is getting a lot of undeserved hate simply because it isn't a total copy of HoI3 with slightly better graphics. Of COURSE the game is different - HoI3 already exists, there would be no point to making the same game again! HoI4 may be different, but that's by design, not by some unforeseen flaw, and it should be celebrated for the changes it made, not hated on.

The new OOB system is shit. It doesn't know what it wants to be. Should we be assigning 24-division armies to regular generals? Then what the fuck is the point of Field Marshals? Why can't we subordinate Generals to FMs?

HoI4 gets a lot of shit because it's hip to hate on newer Paradox titles. For what it is, it's decent. I feel it would do to have more depth, especially in regards to keeping things from going off the rails too badly, but I think that's just an issue with Paradox itself. In many ways I feel they suffer a similar fate to Mojang, in that because of how prolific user mods are, they can very easily rely on users just modding the game to create an infinite source of original content that is vastly deeper and superior to anything they put out.

All in all, HoI4 is a decent enough addition to the HoI series, it's just not exceptional in any way. The modernizations and streamlining (especially the economy, the way HoI4 handles it is fabulous, though I would like there to be an element where the locations of produced gear was relevant and actual supply lines existed that gear traveled on to the relevant units) are well received, but its other flaws make it ultimately on par with DH, and obviously inferior to HoI3 in terms of strategic depth.

oi cucks help me out. ive only into'd this genre in the last 2 months.

i started with HOI 4 which i actually enjoyed the most, but it was obvious it had a lot of problems including depth and mechanics.

then CK2 which i enjoyed but i didnt appreciate the era and political system.

and ive just wrapped up with EU 4 which was
also good but seemed to lack depth and again i prefer a focus on more post 1800 era.

The retards who did SWMH can't even do a proper job at localizing shit. If you play with SED you have Jerusalem being called Jerusalem and the Tower of David using its name in french while the ruler is a fucking arab. Most of Jerusalem also uses a ´ in the 'e' like the french name for the place.

Then if you search for damascus, you can't find it because the province has some weird as fuck name and the city of damascus is called City of Dimasq, which is the arab name for the place, so the palce is called in english and and arabic. Meanwhile, jerusalem isn't called 'al-Quds' like it is in arabic, it's in fucking french.

Then we have the dynasty names. Banu Qays means House of Qays in arabic, but when you hover over your house banner it alread says "house something", so it literally means House "house of qays". The correct form would be to use the -id suffix, like Abbasids or Fatimids. You don't see the abbasids being called Banu Abbas.

SED/SWMH is a half-done job. It promises shit in english but it doesn't deliver.
