It makes no sense because you can save in safe rooms, so you're more or less going back to your last save, anyway. It only punishes people who choose to not save, for whatever reason.

I should note that this is a stealth section and the enemies aren't actually that strong on Challenge. You can still cheese it with hold ups, though, 'cause for some reason all the demons fuck off if you successfully negotiate with one.
