Gunplay that isn't garbage. You wouldn't really expect someone to say something like that when talking about a fucking FPS game, where the gunplay is what the game is about, but there ya go.
Lots of emphasis on survival mechanics while keeping it nice and fun. Much more dangerous wildlife, with human encounters being downplayed.
But let's get real for a second: If STALKER 2 was ever released in any timeframe in the future, it'd be terrible. Either the hype train, terrible design choices, the retarded expectations of the fanbase of any mixture of these three would kill the game.

your chances are higher when somene gives you coordinates.

at the start of a new game half of the total stashes gets populated from there basic toolkits are common, advanced are rare and calibration toolkits are almost impossible to get. you can increase your chances by getting the rag and bone achievement that will give you an extra luck bonus..

In the new update the system will change, now stash content will be hidden until someone gives you the stash coordinates then it will be accessible.

Hey guys, I'm looking to start up Call of Pripyat again. I've tried Misery and Arsenal Overhaul and like shit from both of them. Is there any mod or combination of mods that has shit like helmet overlays, rare ammo, deadly gunfights and assorted brutal whathaveyou, but nice and plentiful gun models and animations like in AO? I tried the Armed Zone mod for Misery, but it wasn't doing it for me. I've been searching, but haven't turned up much. Any help would be awesome.

I think it's related to DX10. When I switch it to that in the graphical menu and reboot the game, it then hangs on a black screen whenever I go in and out of menus. I've installed the DX10 fix from the OP.

As for the extra issues I got using AO+SRP, it would take ages to load anything and crash regularly, compared to the zero crashes I got doing the same stuff in vanilla with SRP. I'd get large FPS drops whenever I was not inside a structure (related to Absolute Nature or SWTC maybe?)

Can the scope zoom (PSO-1, etc.) be changed in SoC?

I dled it from https://gist.github.com/v1ld/786a2b61296273dac2fe5aeba858b1a7 but there are several problems. Everyone has told me JP2 is much much more "complete and polished" than Stalkersoup but;
1) There is a regular crash involving PDA (id.parent == parent or something along these lines). This was fixed in Stalkersoup ages ago
2) Rounds seem to be green for some reason. Don't remember that in Stalkersoup
3) There is some weird ricochet effect on bullets that happens ~1 second after hitting
4) Vast majority of dialogue is still "wasap negr stalker who has such thirst for any alchol type" tier translation

Also ammo is far too scarce. I get that you're meant to trade mutant parts but I don't really want to go hunt dogs just so I have enough bullets to kill cheekis on the way from Bar to Cordon. Is it possible to extract death_generic.ltx and change the values or something like this?

That's basically how I feel as well. I was explaining the STALKER modding scene to someone recently and I summed it up by saying that not only are Western and Slavic tastes extremely different (Westerners have a much heavier focus on an open world, emergent gameplay, very polished weapon anims and lighting, and will generally favor 'vanilla-ish' experiences, while Slavs go for linear narratives, gameplay focused on fetching, searching, and heavily concentrated firefights, as many features as possible, and either entirely new experiences or 'alpha' experiences) but their approaches to modding are very different as well. Slavs create, endlessly, and even if these creations might not 'mesh' well, they'll be put together as best as possible. Westerners will take existing work, either from the game itself or from Russian modders, and attempt to polish the fuck out of it even if it adds basically nothing to the game, in a way that - if it weren't for a few core and key features - you would hardly notice you were playing a mod at all.

The best example of a clash is voice acting. No westerner would ever put voice acting in a mod, because it'll never 'live up' to the quality needed to not draw attention to itself (just look at how the one exception turned out). Slavs, on the other hand, will include voice acting because they /can/ do it, and even if it's not perfect or not even good, the effort will be greatly appreciated regardless.

I want to add that I feel that one of the reasons this diverge has happened is just due to the fact that Westerners, due to the lack of documentation in English, are basically /forced/ to endlessly polish. We can't do much else, because those few people who can speak English and do things such as create entire levels in the SDK don't really provide as much documentation as Russian speakers do.

All I can say is that while others might deride Western modders for taking the polishing route as opposed to doing the hard work themselves, I'm glad that we at least made some attempt to work on the game, as opposed to what we used to do - wait for Russian releases and then cobble together a broken pack based on them.

Yeah. Used to be possible to speed run that cave on master without killing anything until OP-2 stuck a ton of mutants at the end of the final tunnel. OP-2 ties the number and type of spawns in there to difficulty. I made it through on Stalker which is pretty like master for most mods.

I checked the code, you're basically invulnerable in that cave if you're on Novice. So you can always walk through on Novice and bump back to Stalker or whatever when you're through.

The difficulty setting in OP-2 applies to a lot of stuff, like dozens of gameplay changes are tied to it. Playing on Stalker until you have OP gear is a good idea.

That's a scope texture, look in gamedata/config/weapons/m_l85.ltx. Try replacing it with l-85-amk-w, you may have the widescreen texture installed instead. Better still, look under gamedata/textures/wpn for files beginning with l-85 to find out just what you selected at install time.

Thanks for digging it up but this bug (dBodyStateValid) is worked around by disabling AMK's controller zombification feature (by setting number of allowed controlled zombies to 0). It can happen anywhere, not just Yantar. AMK AE disables zombification just for this issue, for eg.

The classic save-corrupting AMK Yantar bug has logless crashes. Apparently killing all mutants in the level allows making non-corrupted saves once the issue shows up.

That's very interesting since I ran into a logless, save-corrupting crash in Yantar with AMK AE that seemed to be tied to a blowout that was about to occur in that save. The save corruption went away when I eventually tried restored vanilla ambient definitions by adding them back to AA2's. AA2 doesn't use those ambients, but restoring them allowed me to make non-corrupting saves in Yantar. AA2 itself doesn't have this particular issue, but AMK AE uses AMK's blowouts with AA2's weather, so who the fuck knows.

That you're seeing the trace starting in xrParticles.dll means this is probably the same or related issue.

Every logless crash I've personally seen has been tied to weather and things related to weather (ambients especially). Corruption is mods like OP-1 was usually some boar whose data got fucked up somehow in the save.

Look in gamedata\textures\wpn for a file starting with wpn_crosshair_4-dot and make a copy of it with the name as the missing file in your crash log.

This is most likely happening because the AMK installer was told you were going to be playing in an aspect ratio other than what you are actually using. So those textures are going to look squeezed.

Nearest one was probably a 4:3 aspect ratio so it's looking for those now. Next time pick 1600x900 or another 16:9 ratio resolution.

There's another quick fix if you like. Run the AMK installer again, but point it at some temp directory instead of your actual install. Pick a 16:9 ratio. Then copy only gamedata/textures/wpn from it over your game install. This will bring in the correct files and you won't have stretched scopes.

Sorry, needs to be the other way. Your game is looking for the 4:3 ratio textures, you have the correct 16:9 versions installed.

You're actually best off finding the weapon files with the incorrect texture reference and fixing them up as you go.

Use notepad++ to do a Find in Files on gamedata/config/weapons for the missing texture file as you run into crashes. Then point to the correct 16:9 texture file, which you will have given you picked a wide aspect ratio.

just started SoC (no mods) and man this game is tough, even on "stalker" difficulty. Military men are always attacking the base and I can't give in my quests haha. On occasion i sprint into anomalies too.. those dogs are fucking hard to hit with the pistol.

One possible cause of this is all loners except active quest givers (they gave you a quest which is active) have already been raided and turned into corpses

So quest givers stay out of any combat and are generally ignored by all hostiles

Joint Pak 2 is the best fork of Stalker Soup. It has by far the "most" of any mod, whether that's good or bad is up to you.

There is still no real "Vanilla+ Mod" in the way you describe, as all the good mods go too far to really be considered Vanilla. If you've been absent for a while, there are a few mods (apart from DMM:AE, ST2 and JP2) that are also worth playing:

ZoA: Close to vanilla. Built on AMK, adds a functional (if a little buggy) magazine system, in which you actually have to load your damn magazines, which some hate but I personally love.

RMA: By far the best 'add old build stuff' mod, extremely close to Vanilla with minimal additions. There's an atmospheric addon available, and a new version which is coming out soon but looks like, in true slav fashion, it will ruin RMA's polish by adding in unnecessary shit.

OGSE: Adds a lot of new shit, changes a bunch of maps, and is yet another attempt to get close to what 'STALKER was meant to be' (fuck I hate that phrase). It's definitely worth playing, but has real balance issues and a whole bunch of bullshit fetch quests.

Call of Chernobyl: It's not a SOC mod, but it's worth a mention because it's the biggest thing to happen to the scene in the past ~5 years. Every decent map from both vanilla games and mods smashed together in one very stable engine for maximum freeplay. This is probably the most played mod nowadays.

For whatever reason, the converter flips the min and max movement values of the upperarm and thigh physic boxes. Also the head physic box, but those values are not that different, so it's not particularily jarring.

Cars were definitely planned to be in the game, but in a very limited capacity, with the only documented planned use to be in the cut level Darkscape, which itself was entirely based around a carchase after exiting Lab X-18. They were removed quite late into development.

The only mod, and I really mean this, the ONLY mod to ever implement vehicles well is RMA. It has exactly one vehicle, a jeep, which is used exactly once, in a helicopter carchase through Darkscape. It is then unusable once the carchase is finished.

In any other context a car makes no fucking sense in the Zone. The entire point of the Zone, especially in SoC, is that traveling is difficult, risky, and slow. You need to prepare yourself and stock up for every trip outside a 'safe house' (bar, cordon, freedom base, etc.) and be prepared for whatever comes at you, because you might be gone for longer than you think. A car renders all of that moot: You can just zip across the fucking zone in a dumb tank, and it just becomes a matter of "well i gotta go fetch this shit let's get into the zaporozhets". It's in every Slav mod because Slavs for whatever reason have an unbroken devotion for cut content, missing the point that content is usually cut because it's bad.

Some mods with cars in them are fantastic, for example, JP2 and OGSE. But that's DESPITE their inclusion. The addition of cars is fucking dumb as shit and anyone who claims otherwise doesn't know shit about STALKER and should fuck off from the Zone and go play fucking Euro Truck Simulator 2015.

Shoker has more weapons, a really cool attachment system and a magazine system.
Gunslinger has better models and animations and animations for stuff like medkits, pills, drinks and PDA. It also seems to have seperate animations for moving in different directions, crouch walking, aiming down sights and so on. Shit looks smooth as fuck.

Both use the same engine mods created by a former gunslinger dev as far as I know. Both have stuff like 3D scopes and a quick nade and knife buttons.

Well, up and to the Cordon / Swamps. Remember that even though you don't see it, there's a strongly defended perimeter around the zone, and getting in and out isn't simple. I imagine that there are trails into and out of the Zone that can be traversed by foot (as in, other than the military cordon) but driving a car in there would probably be difficult without being noticed. There would be smugglers who go back and forth along these trails to drop off to vehicles, and the military probably helps certain factions get stuff to the black market, but for the most part, unless you're military, you're not using a car.

I've always thought it'd be nice if a STALKER game began with the protag sneaking into the Zone from the outside - being driven up to the edge of a swamp, trekking through the swamp avoiding military choppers, and sneaking past a military barrier.

UE4 has basic templates where you get the "basic" stuff done and can just keep adding from that. From that on there are tutorials for anything you need just don't only search for FPS tutorials. Adding health in a strategy game is just the same as in a FPS.

And if you like me can barely code there are blueprints, and thanks to EPIC's progress they can now be converted to C++ when packaging a game so you will get minimal performance loss from using them.

Reached Yantar and then reloaded a quicksave - every save in lake Yantar crashes. Every god damn one. Even the hard saves. The AMK crashlog is empty, the bug tracker crash log is empty (the bug tracker doesnt show up, really) and the clipboard is also empty.

Anyone got around this? I'd hate to have to go through all of Yantar without any saves. That lab is fucking hell.

In Call of Chernobyl I'm losing reputation occasionally from killing NPCs who were already hostile. What the fuck? I ranked up from common to decent by healing a wounded guy from my faction, but when I kill one too many Zombified (!) stalkers, it comes back down to common.
