Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.

The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 2800 units, 800 spells and 300 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them.

It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.

Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

Update for anyone interested in the happenings of Nagot_gick_fel

Basically tl;dr is Bats chose to raid me instead of defending (you can turtle in your cap and stack massive amounts of freespawn beast bats, fyi)

I mean it's annoying I guess, but every Xibalba player I've seen that gets attacked sits in their cap and then explodes out with hundreds of beast bats and is back in the game, if you don't want to try it this time if you try Bats in another EA game it actually works pretty well. Get those Onaqui out and take a B9 for the bats my boy, it's srs

>being such a shitter that you need to take measures to deal with emails from people who don't want to put up with your shit
>>
>>154514935
More important happenings are that I, the mighty leader of the realm of Therodos, am now murdering the poor Atlantian scum. Sadly they tried to commit a most heinous crime - having provinces I wanted, i.e. literally the entire ocean - and had to be dealt with. Luckily for everyone else, I don't particularly want to leave the water more than I really have to so I get to focus on the poor fishpeoples.

I'm glad you took the time to fix your email filter, in the same amount of time you took to do that you could have done your turn
>>
>>154514935
Raiding is literally the best thing bats can do, actually. They can foreign-rec raiding parties as well. Sitting in your cap with 1000 beast bats can keep you from being eliminated more quickly, but will never actually win you a game.

Naw man, you get enough beast bats to re-expand. You don't sit there with 1000 at all

Raiding around while you lose every real province you have is wayyyy worse than consolidating for a big explosion of bat fuckery, and no one can get rid of you with that shit either, really. It almost forces a domkill

>>
Does astral shield protect the caster from genjutsus aka mind duels?
>>
>>154518487
I regularly tease my submissives for that long.
>>
>>154518619
No. Phoenix Pyre works against Magic Duels, and so does Elixir of Life or Crystal Heart.
>>
>>154518619
What? No, why would it?
>>
>>154518619

First it doesnt protect shit: when you strike someone with it, then you have to do a MR check to know if you get paralyzed, but the damage gets in anyway.

And it only works for fucking melee attacks.
>>
So from the description I'm guessing the effect of Quagmire simply gives the battle the same parameters it would have if it were actually taking place on a swamp province. Is this correct? Is there anything else that it does? Would it do anything at all if cast in a battle already taking place in a swamp province?

Also what exactly gets penalized by swamps in battle and what exactly are the effects on those units?
>>
>>154518962
Are there damage returning buffs like that or other magic shields (besides air shield) that also effect magic attacks and/or missiles?
>>
>>154519096
Mind duels aren't even missiles, but even if they were, astral shield only works for melee attacks.
>>
>>154518973
It just increases the Enc of all units fighting, that's it. Makes them tire faster.
>>
>>154518487
>making me wait is staling.
No. Staling is staling. I took 30 minutes from seeing my turn was in to submitting it, and there were still 15/24 hours left on the clock.

Now, if the admin wants to set me AI for that
>staling
He can go right ahead. This would be egregious badminning, but that would also make it not my problem anymore.

Damage Reversal protects you from any attack unless the enemy passes a MR check. Blood Vengeance will return an equal amount of damage to the one you took, also unless the enemy passes a MR check.

Air Shield is the only "shield" that protects against missiles. Some spells (Bladewind, Nether Darts) are actually missiles, and subject to Air Shield.
>>
So what's the longest running game y'all are in right now? Are there any games with 200+ turns?
>>
If I have a handful of mages firing off nether bolts, how likely is it that they will target enemy mages?
>>
>>154530774
It targets by expected damage, taking likelihood of hitting into account, so very low
>>
>>154530842
So even spells with extra effects only target based on expected damage? Even if that extra effect would be useless against the chosen target? Dang, what about extra effects that continue causing damage over time? Would that be factored into the expected damage or does the initial damage component override everything else for targeting purposes?
>>
>>154531192
Nobody knows. If you keep asking questions like that, they will remove you.
>>
>>154531192
I know for a FACT that thunderstrike targets including the extra AoE damage (ie - it'll ignore 1 square of high hp units in favor of a densely packed square of units). I don't think that effects like Feebleminded are factored in at all.
>>
>>154531324
I mostly meant things that will continue causing damage after the round the spell was cast in, and whether THAT damage would be counted along with the initial hit damage.

Damage Reversal will affect all attacks, but requires the enemy attacking you to fail a MR check. It can be applied with a blood 9 (research) spell.

Flying shield will block missiles, with a 50% chance. It only reduces damage, but it reduces it by 20 which is usually enough against attacks without AP or AN.

Protection or resistance buffs help against many things as well.

Wasn't overly important, it had just been attacked that turn and I didn't feel like making a post for a province with random undead in it.

Honestly doesn't matter at all though, you'll see the message ingame when that the next turn starts. You killed like 40 longdead and some random meat, so nothing of value was lost. That was just an little army to walk around and cap the empty provinces with.

Regardless, here's a screencap of what's going on in the general area if you don't have scouts there. Random skeleton stacks around Ermor.

>>154544496
Start with a good bless would be my advice. On a huge maps, games last a long time. Generally long enough to get everything you might want even with suboptimal scales, but the one thing you can never get is a better bless. If your nation can't use a bless, just get something like a cheap N9 so you can throw shrouds on your thugs or something.
>>
>>154544496
Make sure your expansion is SPOT ON. You'll have A LOT of territory. Test it until you get like 50 provinces in the first year. I'm not kidding.

When push comes to show (armageddons happen), L3M3 is what you can always rely on. Bloodhunting will be crippled, but gemgens will remain intact. Just food for thought.

Do you have any idea what happened?
In my replay it said your forces had routed and almost all my mages were totally fine but the battle summary inexplicably says I lost the fortress, all of the mages, and my pretender somehow.
>>
>>154551021
This is a thing with Nazca's innate spellcasters.

Dont remember the precise thing, but it's something about the AI sometimes working different in different OS, and llama works with Linux.
>>
>>154551175
Also ironically the time this happened to me, it was me as Nazca against Ermor.

In the replay i lost and my royal mallqui got all destroyed, but in the log I killed most of his stuff and the rest of it routed into oblivion. The right battle is the one in the battle log, the one that happened in the server.

Always decisive fights.
>>
>>154551175
Aint that some shit. Fucking computer nonsense robbing me of my epic battles.
Well it's a little demoralizing to be robbed of my cap and god by a glitch like that but I won't go AI just yet. I fight to the end no matter what!
>>
>>154551410
The glitched one is supposedly the one you can see, the right one is in the log.
>>
>>154551410
It isnt even a glitch, the glitch is showing both of the battles.
Its something about how do OS generate random numbers.
>>
>>154551021
>>154551175
It broke, mine shows your mages routing (which kills them during a fort battle), so that's why they died, but it also showed hardly any of my Supayas dying or routing, but when I got to the actual turn a ton of my forces had routed into the castle, which isn't what I saw

So putting the two together what seems to have happened is a bunch of my shit routed(but not all of it) but not before making your mages rout to their deaths

It's not often that the replays fuck up, but sometimes they do, it probably has to do with immortals and mummifications.
>>
>>154551497
I know, but I base my tactics on what I see in the battles because the log tells me nothing but pure numbers, so the battle that I see is the one where everything I rightly expect to happen with my scripts is happening, and the correct log is just some numbers hiding what is actually happening from me.

>>154551175
On closer inspection, there were none of his innate spellcaster units in the battle. I guess the problem effects other units too?
>>
>>154551662
>>154551642
You killed 3 of my Hurin Priests which made them mummify, that could have messed with it somehow.

But for what its worth, what we saw is the fucked up glitched version which is why it was funny to me because it obviously wasn't right, the outcome is the real outcome from the server
>>
>>154551794
Wait, when the priests mummify, do they continue fighting in the same battle? I thought the mummified versions were out of play until the next turn.
>>
>>154551883
No they die and pop out at my cap the next turn, but I'm just taking guesses on why it fucked up the replays, there's no telling. I was thinking maybe the replays our clients are displaying might be glitched out and counting the Hurin Priests as still alive after their die because they don't actually die permanently or something, but like I said I'm just guessing random bullshit it's probably nothing to do with it and it's just a Linux -> PC fuckup
>>

>>
>>154553635
No, you retard.

>>
F9W9 or D9B9 for Supayas? Former murder everything early game, latter gives extra health to an already ethereal unit and BV against those pesky enemy mages. Biggest issue with D9B9 I see is the damn pretender, getting to D9B9 is gonna cost a lot of scales.
>>
>>154552081
Actually, the Nazca replay bug seems to be because Innate Spellcaster goes off script on Windows machines, but sticks to the script on Linux. This leads to much better casting options on Linux (which Llamaserver runs) whilst replaying the battle on a Windows machine spams AI off-script bullshit.

Also, fun fact, Innate Spellcaster works even if the unit is routing. The repeat casting will keep the unit over 100 fatigue and stop it moving, meaning it will never actually leave the field. I lost a bunch of Mallqui this way, but they held the enemy to the turn limit and caused a hard-wipe of everything in the battle (including the enemy Pretender).
>>
>>154553870
B9 on Supayas keeps them relevant later into the game, but they're already great units so it's really a matter of "do I need this"

>it depends
>>
>>154554016
Well, all of the mages were the living variety, as they dropped in on his cap with flying.

So there were no mummies involved, it was just a glitchy reply that happens occasionally
>>
>>154553759
No-one knows, Llama has email JK to see what is happening. Might be related to the fact the game stops assigning descriptions and magic paths to units after you add too many, but that is just guess work.

At the moment all we can do is not run too many big mods together - ME 1.1 and Summod is fine, but add WH or use ME 1.2 and it fucks up.

Sign up for a pbem and play single player to learn what you're trying to even do in the meantime

It's not as bad as you think it is, diplomacy ends up being a big deal when you're with actual players

Just basically start a game and experiment with your starts for the nation that you're playing in the pbem. Try to get as cheap as you can with expansion parties while still having them strong enough to handle 90% of the indie provinces

Which nations do people usually play on multiplayer?
>>
>>154556630
Whatever nation they feel like playing.
>>
>>154556630
It doesnt matter at all, you won't learn playing it more than you will fighting someone playing it.

What i mean is that you, as a newbie, won't realize what a nation can do and get false expectances about them.

In my opinion find a nation you like, try to get used to the mechanics, and then try to aim for 12 provinces on turn 12.
It's a common goal for regular expansions (not great expansion, not messed up expansion).

Also about single player: only play it until you get used to the basics and to train yourself for the 12 provinces on turn 12 thing, other than that is a waste of time since the AI is pretty bad and raising its level will only give them extra gold and stuff instead of making it smarter.
>>
>>154556630
Playing EVERY single nation in singleplayer from start to finish sounds like a huge waste of time IMO, you'd be better off just starting the game with them, reading all about their units and national spells, then repeating. (Or just use the mod inspector) At the end decide on some favorites and play with those.

Just ask questions or check the mod inspector if you want to find out what to do against a particular nation once you're inside a multiplayer game.
>>
>>154556794
>>154556835
Im reading up on every race on the wiki, going to decide which one im going to try out.

>>
>>154556630
There's a certain degree of preference towards nations that are particularly strong or that are widely thematically interesting (such as spooky skellingtons) but pretty much all nations see play.

Seeing that there's almost a hundred factions total, trying to play all of them seems like a fool's errand, especially considering many of them can be played in a variety of styles or a way that might not be apparent if you just fire up a game and play the first 20-30 turns. Besides, one of the neat things about PBEM formats is having ample time to research stuff, like what your neighbours are capable of, during the course of the game. You'll likely start encountering other players around turn 5 and wars very rarely start before turn 15 or so. You have a week to prepare, pretty much.
>>
>>154557000

>EA

>MA
Ermor, Pangaea, Sceleria
>LA

Evaluating a nation's true strength is a bit difficult because notoriously strong nations are more inclined to be perceived a threat and be ganged up upon (particularly if they are annoying to play against, even more so if they actually aren't strong in early game) and some nations are clearly strong but are more difficult to utilize to their full potential (such as LA Bogarus), the listed nations are universally considered strong and have enjoyed good success despite that fact.

>>154557228
You forgot EA Fomoria, Caelum in general and LA Lemuria.
>>
>>154557710
Oh, and game size is obviously a factor. For example, Vanheim is an absolute beast in early game since they have some of the best expansion in the game, Vanheres are monstrous sacreds and their core battle magic tactics (Thunder Strikes and such like) don't take that long to research. However, their mages are very expensive (inferior research, cannot be fielded in large numbers) and that's pretty much the extent of their tactical and strategical toolkit so Vanheim is prone to running out of gas on larger games.

All 3 are top tier.

Fomoria wants a N9(A pretender with nature 9) bless. Sailing giants and air+death magic.

Lanka can be built with N9/B9/W9 and is tricky - turmoil/sloth/luck as far as scales go. Every priest can reanimate undead.

Xibalba has high mobility and shit troops. But awesome blood summons. Swarm tactics the nation early. B9 at a minimum, double bless is highly recommended.

After these 3 summaries which do you like best? Difficulty I'd rate
hardest xibalba
med Lanka
easiest of the 3 Fomoria

Practice expansion in SP until you can hit 15 provinces by year 2. (early spring y2 when you hover over the season icon at the top). Then you are ready to join.

The most important bit is to have a N9 or N9E4 pretender. Order and growth are awesome to have. Aim for 6-8 dominion. I can give a pretender in maybe 2hrs.

Gave a shot at a pretender for Fomoria. It's vulnerable to Magic Duel but if this thing is getting into combat, that would likely be the least of your worries. The other guy might be able to give something else.

I like Magic for Fomoria with your druids and the need to get to Evo 5 asap.
>>
>>154569714
Don't listen to this guy: >>154569993
He is just a bully. magic paths on level 9 unlock special bonuses, but raising it up to 10 does nothing other than waste a lot of pretender points. Also S1 is a horrible memetrap from him, since there is a spell called "Magic duel" that basically makes an astral mage of yours fight an astral mage of the enemy, and only one wins the mental fight (the more astral the more likely to win). For example a S3 regular mage will have a 70% chance of instakilling your god.

Bats works great with W9 and some minors. You could try a toad guy with W9 N4 B4.
That's what I used when I won as them.

But they have a point in that taking a hard nation that everybody hates sounds like a bad idea as a first game.

I would go Fomoria no doubt. They are versatile and have a lot of deep stuff to get used to the game.

Stealthy raiders
Storm + thunder strike
Horde of skeletons+ Rigor mortis + Darkness
Thugs and SCs
Good sacred summons for mid-late game armies

It sounds like a great choice to me.

This. I'm playing through E-mail instead of blitz _exactly_ because I "have a life" and I can't ever dedicate more than 3~ hours in a row to playing video games. I can still however check the internet every 12 hours, once when I wake up in the morning and once when I come home at night.

This looks like a good pretender. Here's a mobile variant if you want your pretender to move around after year 3, once he arrives. If you can hit 15 provs by year 2 reliably you will do well.

>>154561150
>>154562593
I also don't recommend Lanka/Xibalba since you'll have to delve into blood which is micro-intensive and unecessarily complicated for a newbie. Fomoria gives you Death and Air, one of the more potent magic paths and you have big giants which work nicely with a N9 bless.
Sailing is also very trolly and strong - you can attack overseas. So you can attack someone and he won't be able to retaliate.

All that's left is decide on what magic you need to win the game. Your blessed sacreds (Cast blessing on sacred units) should be able to beat anyone to pulp til turn 24-ish. After that you need magic to help you out.

Personally, I really only have time in the evening. Mornings I just about have time to shower and dress. On days when I'm not working or I get up a little early, I take morning turns, but that's not usually the case. I don't really mind having a turn a day, or even every two days for late game so I can think about it or diplo. If I wanted more, I would start or join a 16 hr pbem.

I don't really get why people are so bothered about not having turns on demand. That's just part of playing with different people on different schedules.
>>
>>154571327
S3 on an immobile statue isn't an issue since it won't be in 99% of your battles (it will only be in a battle of an enemy sieging you or a bit battle in which you teleport your monolith in).

I dont think there is the need to empower it at all, just be careful if you are fighting an astral heavy nation with only it as an astral mage.
S1 mage mind dueling a S3 mage is only 24% success ratio, but if they have 10 of them they could kill your monolith safely using only 10 S1 mages and 10 pearls.

Still, if you think that could happen, just sit your monolith at home researching ( it should do this most of the game anyway, as I already said)
>>
>>154571041
N9 is cheap and effective for a giant nation. It allows for some decent scales.

>>154571216
Spells of note: quicken self,Mistform, Soul Vortex, Invulnerability - for self buffing SC's (1-man armies)

Fog Warriors, Mass flight - lategame winning spells

For your A2 Casters: Storm, Storm Power (gives +1 Air magic, but can be cast only during Storm), Thunder Strike - the classic Air magic wombo-combo

Another for your A2 casters: Summon Air Elemental - a size 6 ethereal flying trampler. Hard to kill and gives non-giants a headache. You can cast this with your A2 mages with 2 Air gems.

Utility: Cloud Trapeze - magic phase mocement - this instant teleports you to a province before the army there has a chance to move.

Others: Horde of Skeletons, Darkness, Rigor Mortis - powerful death spells worth looking into, but not your main course

Ehh, there are way more threatening sacreds that Fomoria's 1 attack per square dudes. W9 Vanheres and Wot5E would likely crush them.

>>154571327
>Should i try to empower my astral after my god gets released to protect from magic duel?
No, since:
1) You're not likely to have much pearls since you don't have native astral access
2) You have much better things to do with pearls, such as summoning golems and giving them shrouds (which turns them sacred, giving them the benefits of N9)
3)The magic duel weakness of an immobile pretender isn't that relevant, as it's not going to be taking to the field anytime soon unless you teleport it.
>>
>>154572025
I was not saying it's catch all. W9 Vanhere, Wot5E, White Centaurs are the boogeymen of EA. However I don't believe killing off C'tis within the first 2 years would be a problem with this bless. N9 on giants is newbie-friendly, it's a good starting point.

There are better builds, but this one is easy to use for someone new.

Also as the other guy said, it's proportional to dominion, having a temple, etc, so you get at least a bakers dozen which with tribless is enough.

>>
>>154576472
Keep in mind MP games have throne rules set so the game does not end so abruptly. Don't focus on thrones as much early, think about them but don't sacrifice expansion to grab a throne.

Farmlands are prime provinces since they give the most income.

Keep practicing til you get to 15 provinces on year 2. It's possible, you just have to know which independents you can take on with how much.

Generally militia/light infantry is cakewalk, tribals should be ezpz for your units. Watch out for Heavy Cavalry. Large amounts of barbarians can be tough.

If you don't want to install anything but don't mind rebooting, it'd also be possible to use Live DVD/USB stick (nowadays most distributions are installed from such an environment). It looks like the Steam version of Dominions for Windows has Linux binaries so you probably don't even need to install Dominions but can instead launch it from Windows partition.

And of course, you can launch one of those live distributions from an emulator too if you don't want to bother installing, which would be a faster solution if you intend to do this kind of thing often.

I have a question about mind blasts (and by extension any ranged weapon but I'm dealing with mindblasts atm and their 100% range and precision makes them a good control example anyway), if I tell them to fire closest, or fire rear, will they switch targets when a different unit gets closer/further away?
And if I tell them to target a specific type of unit, like cavalry or large monsters, will they target a single member of that unit type until it is dead?
And one more question, if I tell them to fire without specifying a target, will they stay on the same target until they kill it or choose a new target each round?
>>
>>154590017

If you look at the inspector, that has a tab showing all the mercenaries. It picks randomly from those, with some restrictions based on age and how many turns into the game it is.
>>
>>154590432
>I have a question about mind blasts (and by extension any ranged weapon but I'm dealing with mindblasts atm and their 100% range and precision makes them a good control example anyway), if I tell them to fire closest, or fire rear, will they switch targets when a different unit gets closer/further away?
No, they target the same squad until it routs.
>And if I tell them to target a specific type of unit, like cavalry or large monsters, will they target a single member of that unit type until it is dead?
It targets squads, but as far as mind burn is concerned they seem to gib units, instead of spreading it around.
>And one more question, if I tell them to fire without specifying a target, will they stay on the same target until they kill it or choose a new target each round?
Fire targeting is random and has a chance to hit commanders iirc.
>>
>>154590637
Thanks for the info, would you mind clarifying a few things about the answer to the third question?
If they hit a commander does that mean they just targeted that commander's squad and happened to get a lucky hit on the commander? Or are commanders leading squads targeted as separate entities from those squads? Also will the mind blaster choose a new random target every round in that situation or does it choose a random target and focus on that until it dies?

Obviously it depends on what you're fighting and the composition of your own army but what do you think are the best orders, positioning, and formation for mind blasters to get maximum effectiveness out of them?
>>
>>154589236
>Do people play random maps or fixed ones?
You see games using random maps from time to time but primarily a number of maps considered "balanced" are used (no large stretches of single terrain, either fixed starts or players prevented from spawning on the worst starting locations).

>Are mercenaries usefull for anything other than defense against a larger army?
They can be useful for expansion (some nations with very resource intensive but gold light troops or generally bad expansion kinda rely on them, even) and a number of mercs are mages who can be used for researching or sitesearching with paths you don't typically have access to. And of course, sometimes they can be used as reinforcements in a pinch. Amphibious mercs are also one of the best ways to get some hold of underwater.
>>
>>154591405

Commanders are targeted as separate entities, although "Attack Commander" hasn't been an available order since Dom... 2, I think.

That Fucking Troll and his adventuring party still have it, but they only show up in events, and you can't copy the order even if you charm them anymore.

And Victory!

So first off I would just like to thank everyone for an awesome game, it wrapped up in 101 turns and about 2 months of irl time. We had about a week period where it wasn't uncommon for us to have 2-3 turns a day and we blazed through midgame, it was a blast.

This game will be my first PBEM win and I could not be more thrilled that I got to help contribute to the Sauro win rate, especially vanilla Sauro (only mod we had was Worthy Heroes). I'm a much better player than I was two months ago and honestly that's probably a good thing because if I was more competent then my neighbors might have dogpiled me after my ridiculous expansion. I won't post my pretender because it's that bad, but basically it was an 5F/4A Phoenix that was crafted with the intent of suicide bombing and getting Flaming arrows up ridiculously early since I would be in Enchantment anyway to get skellespammers.

My pretender definitely contributed to the win however, though if I could have a do over I would definitely do his scales differently. The fact that I had the throne of Flames in my cap circle was extremely helpful with all my fire magic shenanigans. He also saved the day by getting Fog Warriors out just in time when Yomi was about to crush my stack on his capital with earthquake spam. And his mobility was invaluable because of my lack of National H3s or water provinces to get bishops, being able to trapeeze him was essential to the throne grab I had to do at the end.
>>
>>154592154
Imprisoned pretender, I just spammed commanders, blessed units and slings, those did the trick quite well, even had time to recruit 4-5 druids to research!

>That expansion though

Now as far as how the game played out I started with a very strong expansion, mainly expanding with archer stacks with hydras as blockers. The map wasn't wrap around and I was on the Eastern border of it, so it was very nice not having to worry about pressure from one direction. I made peace with my neighbor to the south, Ermor, early on and actually stayed peaceful with him till he went AI. To the west of me was Arco and to the North of me was Yomi. Arco decided he could push into my mostly unforted lands with chariots and begin to tear a path with that stack. Around the same time I was asked by Burds to help fight Yomi to the north, which it honestly didn't make too much sense to do, but I did anyway because I just got memed on by Yomi in SansMemes so I thought they were a much stronger nation than they actually were.

So in early Midgame I was fighting two opponents at once, but luckily both of my opponents were also fighting someone else at the time. Acro also attacked Agartha, and Burds were hitting Yomi from the other side. Arco danced around me with his chariots till I learned I could just summon some behemoths and have them trample the chariots. Then there was a very long siege on one of his forts. So long in fact that by the time I took the fort, Agartha had completely cut me off from attacking them. Which was fine by me because I was able to move that army North to finish off Yomi who had a bunch of Dai Oni's which were making things miserable.

>>154592494

At this point I took Yomi's cap and Agartha and Burds, my two allies up to this point, had started fighting each other. Both asked me to help, and I told both I would probably try to do something. But before I made up my mind on who to back I noticed my neighbor to the south, Ermor, suffered defeat from Hinnom who they had been fighting most of the game and decided to go AI even though they still had 20-30 provinces. So Hinnom and I then proceeded to gobble Ermor, which was great because he had about 7 points worth of thrones in his territory. I raced Hinnom to Ermor's cap. We ended up having a big battle where he threw 10 kitted Melquarts at me, but luckily I had a stack of Storm Demons arrive just in time. Now once I reached Ermors cap I noticed that the throne I grabbed on the way was a 3 point one, I began to formulate a throne grabbing strategy. About turn 90 I noticed that with the position I was in if Agartha didn't attack me I could grab in 8-10 turns.
>>
>>154592110
Building on my response. If you get more provinces you get more gold. More gold = more troops, forts and mages. More stuff might just allow you to win a war by virtue of being richer than your neighbor. This is why expansion is very important.

Part 2, get to 15 provinces by year 2 and start building the cheapest fort on turn 6-8. Lab + temple before it finishes. Fort placement is not as important as getting it down fast, but try to put it in a strategically important place.

>But why do I need to build a fort +lab + temple so fast?

You want to be churning as many mages as you can inbetween expansion parties. More mages = more research = more powerful magic. Magic wins battles.
It also allows you to build more troops, and makes you less reliant on resources. It also means you are no longer knocked out by having your capital sieged out, now you have 2 important and defensible provinces.

The actual grabbing process was super stressful because I was only doing it with a prophet and my god and I had 5 thrones to grab. I also knew that Agartha could in theory make it to one of my thrones and crack the fort with one of their stacks on my border, so I was very tense about them attacking, which they finally did albeit too late. Agartha in theory could have stopped me even after they attacked but my 50+ enaries and fog warriors was enough mage support to fend him off one of his smaller stacks. I also went out of my way to cast three red seconds on each throne as I cleared them to prevent Hinnom for using any teleporting Melquart or Grigori Shenanigans to interrupt me.

I really liked playing as Sauro, their excellent research was a ton of fun as it really let me get the most out of my mages. Their relatively easy access to Vampires was very convenient and allowed my blood economy to soar. The national blood mages left a lot to be desired but enough B1 Warrior sorceresses got the job done, and those that missed Blood altogether made okish thugs. Tarts were also super fun, thanks to the excellent research you can get the most out of the paths so they were able to give me the thug support I needed to hold ground around my larger stacks advance. But you definitely should use tarts as a supplement and not as back bone of your approach because their little batty turns where they do fuck knows what are extremely annoying when you needed them somewhere to cast a specific buff.

Also, if you're the Fomoria dude I'd like to mention False fetters. It's range 20, but if you're being rushed by W9 Vanheim, W9 Pangaea or Quadbless Mictlan it's your best bet for survival.

All games in llamaserver seems to be either full, abandoned or using mods...

Anyone want to play a newbie?
>>
So, I'm pretty new to Dominions, but I'm thinking of jumping into a PBEM game sometime. I don't know much about nations or units or strategy, but I get the basics and I figure a PBEM game will be slow enough that I can take my time and learn as I play. I don't mind getting crushed in my first few games as long as I get something out of them.

Any tips? I thought I'd make a Pretender for each age in advance, so I'll be ready and can focus on learning the basics of just a few nations to start. Are there any nations or builds I should avoid? And should I look for games without mods, or just join whatever?

>>
>>154593852

Just don't play fucking Ermor or Lemuria (MA and LA respectively) Learn yourself away from these cancerous nations that ruin games.

Other than that, just pick a nation in a open PBEM, ask around for some tactics, look up some guides. Many nations have hidden strengths and weakness not super apparent. Some nations are strong but have a slow start, and require an awake pretender to be good. Others need to maximize blessed troops, and goes for an imprisoned pretender with heavy blesses.
>>
>>154593991
Yea I was nervous I was putting a target on my back because I did the math after my expansion phase and realized I was twice the size of my neighbors. But luckily they never took action. Well I mean arco attacked me but it was mainly a raiding party.
>>
>>154593835

You'll likely need to get used to the mods.

Basically everything runs Worthy Heroes, at least, and many of the games here also run summod. For what it's worth, Worthy Heroes has minimal effect on the game, being pretty much just adding/adjusting national hero commanders.
>>
>>154594374
>Basically everything runs Worthy Heroes, at least, and many of the games here also run summod. For what it's worth, Worthy Heroes has minimal effect on the game, being pretty much just adding/adjusting national hero commanders.
I downloaded worthy heroes, but all the games that require it are full already...

What other mods should I get?
>>
>>154594153
How do they ruin games? I always find it funny when people get all despaired over a BoT or similar global, it effects everyone equally more or less, so unless the cancer nation is firmly in the lead it does almost nothing relatively speaking.
I think undead nations add an interesting dynamic to games.
>>
>>154594659

Whatever mod the game you are interested in joining are running.

Although I only suggest joining games posted here in the threads. Others could be from other communities, and you don't really want to play in them, and they don't want you there either.

When you click on a match on llama you'll see the mods that it's using at the top, they're links to the downloads.

You don't have to get the mods ahead of time unless you're just trying to see what they do.

If that's the case, Summod and Magic Enhanced are the other other two mods that get used
>>
>>154593852
>I thought I'd make a Pretender for each age in advance, so I'll be ready and can focus on learning the basics of just a few nations to start.
That's what a lot of players do. I'm fairly experienced and I too have a pretender or two per age prepared (I typically don't want to play as nations I've already played as).

However, while you obviously can try designing pretenders yourself from scratch, it might be a good idea to ask more experienced players about some pointers about what you need from the pretender. For most nations there's a good degree of freedom for individual preferences, but some nations are can be played in a specific manner that might not be intuitive.

>And should I look for games without mods, or just join whatever?
Just join whatever. Hell, meme games with nationgen and such like can also be highly instructive to a newbie.
>>
>>154594728

What interesting dynamic is that? Everyone gangbangs them or else they will grow too powerful to control?

The problem is not BoT. It's never BoT. It's that they have full death dominion, their entire gameplay runs around murdering everyone in their kingdom. Fighting them is cancerous, your armies will starve, and sure you might win in the end, after you have suffered untold casualties. And what have you gained? A bunch of completely useless provinces.

I'm in a game right now that I'm slated to win, because I'm one of the few players with no border to Ermor. Why will I win? Because I'm swallowing one neighbour while everyone else is busy murdering Ermor. While they have literally shrunk in power for fighting him, I will just have grown.
>>
>>154594728
It's a total forced meme and the people who complain about them are the same scrubs who cry about OP heroes or imbalanced guns or shitty classes or basically anything they don't like and/or can't git gud enough to beat in any game.
>>
>>154594659

It is worth noting that for basically every community that is not /domg/, if you just randomly join a game without signing up, you're gonna get kicked out of it. Llamaserver caters to pretty much the entire English speaking Dom4 playerbase.

I dunno what /domg/ games are currently open.

>>
>>154594728
>it effects everyone equally more or less,
That's not the case, though. For example, EA/MA Pangaea has superhuman maxage on their mages in addition to being in good position to transfer for gem-based economy with Transformation and freespawn maenads. A nation like Abysia suffers from Burden of Time far more.

Moreover, it's primarily a matter of putting their neighbours to a damned if you do damned if you don't situation. Lemuria is rather impotent so they're not such a huge deal in most games but Ermor is very potent and a horror to face in early-midgame if they go on unchecked but if you attack them to remove this threat, you'll have suffered enormously gaining nothing but wasteland in the process. Even if there's no backstabbery involved, everyone who didn't start next to Ermor wins by not having to find Ermor, and the ones who fought Ermor are quite likely to be out of game even if they win that war by exhausting themselves for no gain.
>>
>>154593397
It's a spell in the alteration school. Actually range 10, so very hard to use. Only use defensively when being rushed!
>>
>>154595125
>>154594728
They genuinely shouldn't delete provinces from the game, it's a bad design. It makes interacting with them AT ALL pointless and detrimental, let alone fighting them.

There's no reason for there not to have a mechanic where something like Population <1000 has enormous growth bonuses from people moving in the repopulate the land to that point that they go from 10->1000 in months, but Ermor's dominion removes this bonus. So anyone else capturing these shitty empty provinces can at least get something out of them once they get Ermor's dom to fuck off.

There should even be a spell, Nature more than likely but Pearls could even work as some kind of astral blessing on the area.
>>
>>154595524
It's not superhuman maxage.
You get a disease from old age. Recuperation kicks in and heals that affliction. Repeat ad infinitum, and Pangaea gives no fucks.

... I am actually considering casting it in my game.
>>
>>154595524
>>154594728
Now, truth be told, in principle it's possible to counteract this effect by everyone bordering Ermor actually committing to the war while receiving tribute from players who are not fighting Ermor or other such organization, but in /domg/ games at least these kinds of arrangements are extremely unlikely to be invoked and even less likely to work in practise.
>>
>>154595751

Recuperation has no effect on things that are into old-age, though.
>>
>>154595680
Could just have a chance to repopulate based on population of adjacent provinces, like with resources and forts kinda.
Then if you have high growth scales and a booming population in your provinces you can have it eventually spread out.
It wouldn't take too much of the sting away from fighting them especially for nations without growth scales but just having that option available would go a long way.
>>
>>154595751
Well, recuperation is also a big deal (hell, it effectively negates starvation as well) but Pangaea does have superhuman longevity as well.
>>
>>154593972
Thanks for the game, mates. I feel really bad about how poorly I did, I hadn't realized I needed at most 3 Raephites to expand. As such, my expansion was rather shit, and I didn't blessrush Ermor as fast as I would have liked. He researched Soul Slay just in time for it to be devastating, and ended up killing 90% of my sacreds and god. Every time I felt like I was about to crush him, he pulled out one last desperate trick to stave me off. Had he been helped, I might have been annihilated. I'm very proud of everyone for the lack of scales and the lack of salt. I hope to play with you fine gentlemen again.

I'm a little confused by the wording of the routing mechanics in the manual.
I assume an auto rout only happens when the total hp of units KILLED in battle is 75% or more. Am I correct in assuming that or does lost hp on still living units count toward the percentage as well? And would I also be correct in assuming that units who have fled the battlefield count as casualties for the purposes of this mechanic?

As for summoned units, I assume they don't count and only the army that first joined the battle is factored into the calculation, but are there any exceptions? Like the Horned One and his dice roll amounts of animals that start at his side in the fight.

They're OP, but unless they're recruit-anywhere, not ridiculously so.

>>

>>154627734
Cap only of course

Another question, would length 4 spear warriors with magic weapons, cap only but not sacred, be OP? should they have a reclimit?
>>
>>154627843
There are a lot of magic spear spammable infantry if I recall.

Atlantis, Caelum, etc.
>>
>>154627843
Magic weapons themselves mean nothing. Caelum militia have magic weapons, and they still die in one hit. Defence/Attack is usually > length, though if both those stats are good, there is a possibility of making a good repeler.
>>
>>154627843
>would length 4 spear warriors with magic weapons, cap only but not sacred, be OP?
Not unless you give them crazy stats. As pointed out, there are a bunch of nations with magic spears.

For existing non-sacred cap-only magic spear units, have a look at Fomoria's Nemedian Warriors. They're great, but not overwhelmingly so.

Before I start down the long path to coding it all, how crippling would it be to have nations lategame summons dependent on H3+F4/E4/W4. The idea being you have to prophet a mage and set yourself down the path to one.

Say the W4+H3 is a powerful SC, the E4+H3 one a strong item crafter and the F4+H3 a strong source of dominion or whatever. haven't fleshed it out too much yet.

also, would reducing the cost of forts really fuck with balance?
>>
Good morning /domg/.

Have a nice day, and remembed to always delete elves and ermor first.
>>
Mandatory consent classes for elves
>>
Memes aside, rushing elves will NEVER end good for you. Elves will most likely have a strong bless, and a few of their sacreds will fuck up your entire army that you could've used for expanding. And you can't outraid them early either unless you play birds (who too warrant removal).

The best thing to do about elves is let other nation attack them first while you tech up for mid-game. Or even bribe elves themselves to attack your neighbor only to backstab them when you're ready.
>>
>>154628678
>elves

you have a funny way of saying bats.
>>
>>154628472
>how crippling would it be to have nations lategame summons dependent on H3+F4/E4/W4
That depends on how strong those summons are. Because unless the summons can actually compete with other endgame summons, it's probably not worth dedicating your prophet just to spend his time summoning them.

>would reducing the cost of forts really fuck with balance?
It depends. IMO unless you have a very good lore reason why they can build their forts cheaper than anyone else, you're better off just giving them access to a lower tier of forts than giving them a discount. Like, giving them the option to build Pallisades instead of Fortresses is probably a better idea than giving them a Fortress priced like a Pallisade.

>Before I start down the long path to coding it all, how crippling would it be to have nations lategame summons dependent on H3+F4/E4/W4. The idea being you have to prophet a mage and set yourself down the path to one.

Sounds good to me, as the other guy said, so long as it's actually worth propheting a mage instead of just summoning standard end-game stuff with him.

Regardless of the balance itself, so long as it complements the lore anything is a-okay with me. Like the LA nation with multiple cults, I could definitely see something like that for them.
>>
>>154629173
Honestly, LA Xib is higher in priority than LA Lemuria. Ghosts will just sit there doing nothing with their shit chaff while Xib will fly their 9999 quadblessed demons everywhere.

Squids can't do anything too besides shit blood nation endgame with their armageddon spam and gobble pearls with Nexus.
>>
>>154628974
the nation is based on Maori mythology. Maori combat IRL against the English depended heavily on quickly made fortifications which were usually abandoned once the soldiers and material to siege them were amassed which is what I'm trying to emulate.
>>
>>154629329
Unless those "quickly made forts" were stone castles, I'd just give them pallisades and be done with it.
>>
>>154629304
LA Xib has no national units that can summon ozelotls
>>
>>154630104
Sorry; I'm wrong. They can get it with a 10% random on Way.

Still very difficult to acquire, unlike EA Xib which can very easily transition to full ozelotl mode, LA Xib relies on bats for much longer

If anything, they have an easier time getting demon knights out than their sacred demons
>>
>>154629329
Maybe give them cheap palisades, but reduced siege defense on most of their dudes? I think that'd be a suitably crippling penalty to offset super cheap forts.

>>154630104
Their summoned Onaqui can.

All they really lose out on is the early access to ozelotl. Lategame they can still create hordes of them.
>>
>>154630294
>Their summoned Onaqui can.

1/4 of their 100 slave summons can, sure. If they have hordes of them, it's because they took a B9/Fx god to cast Rain of Jags
>>
>>154630373
Why shouldn't they?
>>
>>154630373
>1/4 of their 100 slave summons can, sure.
Each of them is 14 ozelotl per turn.

You only need one or two to get a very large amount very fast. You can also empower an onaqui into fire if you have spare gems.
>>
>>154630470
They can and it's a decent build, but it requires the pretender to be aimed at that to do it. It's like saying that LA Mari's expansion is fine because they take an awake snake
>>
>>154630618
I mean, what are the alternatives? It's the optimal way to play bats.
>>
>>154630608
This is radically different from EA xib, though, which rushes blood 4 and transitions directly into ozelotls. LA Xib has it as a late game plan.

>>154630656
A different bless, waiting for onaquis to do it like >>154630608 said. It depends on if you want to turn into an ozelotl nation with a dormant and weaker scales/bless or if you want to play with an imprisoned build with better scales

W9E4 dormant/imprisoned Ormr with +income scales for Vans. Or N9E4 for thugs.

N9E4 meme statue works pretty well on Marignon. It makes their Knights of the Chalice much tougher for expansion and also works great with Marignon's sacred angel thugs which they should aim to be summoning down the line.

Along with this production is important because everything costs a shitload of resources. Taking heat is a good idea because of how much fire Marignon has access to and the extra points let you go for Magic/Growth. Order is also nice if you can get some.

Go W9Ex or N9Ex, imprisoned. Get money scales.

Every turn for the first year, recruit a Vanjarl and five Vans. That's an expansion party. It'll take pretty much all Indie provinces, and many L1 thrones. Expand like crazy. You should be able to make 25 provinces by the end of year 1, easily.

Once the first year's up, you can diversify your commander recruiment. Dwarves are useful for forging stuff.

You'll also want to research Alteration 3 for Mistform, Construction 4 for Brands/Shields/Girdles, and Enchantment 4 for Cloud Trapeze. These are your Orbital Drop Elf research.

You give a Vanjarl a brand (Frost if you can get 'em, Fire if you can't), a shield (Vine if you can get 'em, Weightless Kite or Valor if you can't), and a Girdle of Might. He's scripted at the back to cast Bless, Mistform, Flight, Attack Rear. You can then Cloud Trapeze one into every unguarded province an enemy nation owns, in a single turn. He will destroy their PD, capture their province, and ruin them economically.

For larger battles, you will want Evocation 5 for Storm and Thunderstrike, and Conjuration 2 for Summon Storm Power. These are your Fucking Thunderstrike Is OP Bullshit research.

Have a Vandarott cast Storm, have Various Vanjarls cast Summon Stormpower, and then spam Thunderstrike. Maniacal laughter optional, but encouraged.

Later on, sigificant research goals will be Alt 7 for Fog Warriors, and Blood 4 for Storm Demons (which are amazing). Elves do not have a particularly great lategame, so aim to be in an overwhelmingly powerful position by the time people start throwing demon stacks and tartarians around.

Sacreds with FOUR magic weapon attacks for 30 gold? Are you out of your mind? At least they can be killed by 20 archers, so that kind of balances it out.

Cap only sneks are fucking ridiculous. Not only they can cast n/w buffs, but they have 50% chance to be capable of acid storm right away. 585 gold is the price of niefel jarls who are at least slow to recruit. Those guys shit on jarls in the sheer power. You can basically take N9 and have a single expansion party every turn.

Troops feel uninspired. There's typical shitty militia, and shitty barbarian with even less protection. Those troops usually cost 10 gold maximum, but you put a 15-20 gold price tags on them for some reason.

Mages. F3 with 75/55 F/A/E for 220 gold, and again, not slow to recruit. Even Abysia has shittier fire magic. Second one with a guaranteed E/F is even better because he's cheaper. The one with N has 0 useful crosspaths. Overall path distribution feels random. Why guaranteed E on a cheaper mage? Why 20% to get W? Why do all of them have useless kicks instead of weapons?

I noticed is you have "cheif" rather than "chief" in your sprite names. It just bugs me.

If each of their weapons having two attacks isn't a mistake, those cap-only sacreds are insane. Fix that and they're in a good place.

Tewhatewha warriors are interesting and I like them. Cost seems appropriate for their power level too.

Maori Warriors and Elite Maori Warriors are overpriced. Maori Warriors should have at least better base stats at 13g, and Elite Maori Warriors need something special to make them worth recruiting at 20g. Maori Levy are fine, but it's generally standard not to reduce MR on untrained troops - 10 is human default.

A lot of the resource costs seem quite high. For example, Patupaiarehe are a dude with a stone weapon and a flax vest. This should not take the same resources as a pikeman in light plate.

Taniwha are more in line with something I'd expect out of a summon, but I can't say there's not precedent for similarly-powered recruitables with Dai Oni, Niefel Jarls, and Fomorian Kings. They don't seem too ridiculous, though I'm assuming they're not meant to be recruitable on land.

You don't have a scout commander anywhere, and you start off with two chiefs instead. Not sure if intentional like C'tis or you forgot about the scout, so I'm pointing it out.

What's the thematic reason behind hinatore having adept researcher? I don't recall the maori being renowned for their scholarship.

Ruanuku are really strong. Either adjust their goldcost up a bit or lighten up on those randoms.

Tohunga Ruanuku don't seem much better than standard Ruanuku. Only reason I'd recruit them at present is to hope for a lucky A2 random.

Patupaiarehe Illusionists are nearly as strong as some cap-only mages. Definitely tone them down.

>>154647580
>taniwha
It's not even that strong. As a mage it's overpriced, as a SC it's terrible because it gets a single slot.

It should be able to thug decently, but anything costing 600 gold better damn well beat PD.
>>
>>154647580
they're going to be U-water summons, I made them recuritable for testing

still working on the troops, they'll have an xpshape that improves their tattoo "armor". I'll also be putting in coastal, mountain and uwater rec units

path distribution is random at the moment because I still have no idea where I want to go with mages beyond a focus on the elemental stuff.

But guys, the idea of the NEETSONLY game was to have a different meta, where good turns aren't as important as regular turns.

That's because if you think the turn for too long and everyone else sends it, you only have 2 hours to send it or you are fucked.

So
>turns goes out
>go to college
>go back home
>turn is over

This would be awesome, and a lot of people would stale like at least 5-10 times.

I think it would swift the meta and be a great experience.

Vote for the dynamic time limit.

>>154649707
Shorter turn timers will be fine, also because no admin is going to bother checking all the time and shortening. There's a reason I said we'd need Llama implementation when I suggested it.
>>
>>154649203
Thanks for the tips!

Mages in general need to be reworked, I honestly just slapped names and random paths on them. Hinatore are inspired by the way Maori adapted to their contact with Europeans. Maybe I'll save the idea for an LA/MA Maori nation.

Magic wise the concept I want to flesh out is a Nature/Fire focus with cap/normal mages and Air/Earth from forests and mountains with water and astral from uwater/coast. I'm intending to tone down recuritable mages to balance out the subsequent diversity
>>
>>154649242
Okay, you know how it says leaving the #newmonster blank reduces interference between mods? It lies, you need to check what numbers other mods use and work arround them, otherwise if your mod loads first it might run into their numbers by accident, or merely have different numbers depending on load order with is a headache.

I've posted this email to the community in the game, and asked them to condone it, you can probably get the emails of whom is in the game and ask them if needs be, though as you can tell from the mod this woulf be a fix as Raghan elephants should not be 10 gold.

Here's my attempt to break Oceania's siege.

By the way, Atlantis and Ys, if you're going to move on Oceania, you'll probably want to do it now, before he gets another cap.

The dwarfs in that game are really fun. Honestly coe is great apart from being shit. So many factions that all have unique mechanics and cool stuff and there's roaming indies - fucking hell the man eating deer - but the mechanics, when you actually sit down and play, are actually excruciating.
>>
>>154663478
Yeah it's a great concept but the game itself is not fun and kind of infuriating

Nah, turn timer's the turn timer, that's what you gotta abide by.

There's a pretty easy solution, it's just massively tedious to implement.

All three of us are in a tough spot right now. I think I'm the strongest player atm (might be hubris, but that's my assessment), but I'm also in the worst position.>>154662279
>By the way, Atlantis and Ys, if you're going to move on Oceania, you'll probably want to do it now, before he gets another cap.
All three of us are in a tough spot right now. I think I'm the strongest player atm (might be hubris, but that's my assessment), but I'm also in the worst position.

It's an interesting situation for sure. I believe I could beat either rival one on one, since I have a better bless and I'm like one turn of research away from being able to field some actual mage support. But I most likely couldn't take both of them at the same time. The most obvious thing that's going to happen is I get attacked from two sides, but that would be a poor move on Atlantis' part since he'll just get wrecked by Ys the moment I'm dead.

So Atlantis is in a really awkward position. I suppose he could sit back as me and Ys fight it out while he researches and builds up his forces so he can take out the weakened winner, but that's just as risky as getting involved in the actual fighting.

At the moment, it's not really in anyone's advantage to make the first move. Ys has the best position and two capitals, but probably can't take me head-on. Atlantis is the weakest of the three and has to choose between attacking me and getting killed by Ys eventually, or not attacking me and getting killed by me eventually. And I have to choose between two targets and in doing so open up my rear to backstabbing from the other. And sitting still doing nothing isn't desireable for anyone, since it'll just increase the lead of the much bigger land nations.
>>
>>154662174
How much dominion do you normally give a god?
>>
>>154664829
In most situations, 6. Sometimes 5 if I need the points.

In some situations going higher is desireable though. Either because I need Dom9 to get free Awe on an awake expander pretender, or because I want to expand with sacreds and I want as many of them as possible.
>>
So is WorldPeace a dead game or what?

72 h after planned start we are going to have 2 turn 1 stales.

I say we kick the two griefers and start with 8 players on a smaller map. If we wait for the vacancies to fill up there is a risk those two losers will join and ruin the game again.
>>
Uh hey Ur, I know I ended up in your capring but it's not what it looks like, 'twas a complete accident.

You can have that province back. (And you can take it free of charge with just a naked commander, no need to thank me.)
>>
>>154664642
Double map action points of all units. Double action points of most rituals. Double income of all sites, or halve resource costs of units and rituals. Tweak as needed for balance purposes.
>>
What's the basic of death economy? Get conjuration 6 and start summoning spectres to help you out?
>>
>>154664706
You might be overestimating Atlantis. Or you might have better intel than me.
From what I've seen, he's pretty weak, and despite my horrible military accomplishments, he has lost some troops squabbling with me. I also besieged his capital just some turns ago, and I doubt he's raised the PD after that.
Were I you I'd try to rush Atlantis soon, but that sort of depends on what Ys does.

Ys I know less about, but I know that he's on land, and that his army seems pretty big. My prediction is that you're probably somewhat stronger than him, but that's a fairly wild guess.

Set all the nations fighting Ermor AI.
>>
>>154665035
Yes. Pangaea hasn't bothered to submit a turn even once. The first fucking turn.
>>
>>154665596
Yeah Atlantis is definitely the weakest of the three, while Ys is only slightly weaker than me (he has more troops but they're mostly lower quality). If I fight Ys 1 on 1 I think my chances are good, but Atlantis, while weaker, could still swing the odds in Ys' favor by backstabbing me while I'm busy. Similarly, if I attack Atlantis now it'd occupy me enough to leave me open to Ys.

The best case scenario for Ys would be for him and Atlantis to both attack me, but then he'd first have to convince Atlantis to basically hand him the win for free. The best case for Atlantis would be for me and Ys to wreck eachother hard and long enough for him to build up his forces and mop up what remains, but that's a huge gamble. And the best case scenario for me is to eat one of the two while the other remains passive, but that's not something I can count on.
>>
>>154665523
You need to be a nation with death magic to have a decent death income in most cases. Death has a lot of neat things in it, like liches, but the endgame for death is tartarians most of the time, and that's what you want to save up for.
>>
>>154665035
If we restart the game, I'm going AI turn 1.
>>
>>154666215
The best case for you is to be able to eat Ys while Atlantis watches.

Where are all these new players coming from?
>>

>>
>>154666843
Atlantis is weaker and smaller, so he's not going to outgrow anyone. Ys is relatively strong and has two capitals, so he'll be able to grow stronger much faster. Beating Atlantis later on will probably be easier than beating Ys later on, so if I was Oceania I'd turn on Ys the very moment Ryleh is dead.
