A piston to control water flow? Even then, how could I make it toggle every minute while I afk? I want to drop water in the middle of a 14x14 diamond shaped platform, so the water goes to the very edge off every block without spilling and pushes mobs off, down to the collection area below.

Yeah, no. It's not even about performance at this point, it has been proven that 1.10 runs better and almost perfectly on most systems without any mods.
I know there are a lot of 1.7 mods out there but people just refuses to even try to update their shit.

.. though we can probably blame the modding community, and Lex, for that.

A lot of people say 1.10 runs way worse and takes way more memory. For modded, that's a huge negative.

Go on and try to run All the Mods and see how well it works. Just see how much memory you need for that pack.

I say this as someone who is currently playing and enjoying 1.10.2, when mods are involved, it becomes a LOT more intensive, especially on low ram systems since now the reccomended ram for a kitchen sink pack is anywhere from 4 to 6 gigs of ram.

I had to allocate like 9 to play comfortably.

1.10 vanilla runs better than 1.7, but 1.10 with Forge runs worse, much worse than 1.7 with Forge. Many people complaining about 1.10 performance are strictly modded players.
>>
>>154289702
You guys realize what this means, right? Minecraft is now going to be actively monitoring and counting how many mobs are in one area. There's no way that such a task can be accomplished without constantly doing bounding box comparisons of all nearby entities, affecting performance as just as much or worse than just having lots of mobs.
>>
>>154291234
>it's imposing a restriction on something that hasn't been a problem in 5 years though

Entities in Minecraft aren't coded very efficiently. On large servers, it can quickly become a problem.

For the sake of statistic, one Minecart (which is an entity without any real AI) lags as much as twenty BuildCraft pipes, both just sitting there doing nothing.
>>
>>154291380
>Many people complaining about 1.10 performance are strictly modded players
who, coincidentally, make up most of this general.
And are also the only people that really matter.
>>
anybody familiar with advanced generators? is it fun?
>>
>>154291551
The question is whether it suffocates all the mobs, or just the additional ones. The former would be monumentally stupid for mob farms, the latter merely a minor hindrance promoting building bigger farms if anything.

Also, they could just be caching approximate coordinates (block coordinates) and storing a map of where they are in the world. That'd be a lot more efficient, however I don't believe that, seeing as most of the lag of dropped items is them counting in bounding box comparisons even though their bounding box size is {0, 0, 0}. (Notably, that's fixed by CoFHCore - yes, Core - on 1.7.10)

>>154291562
Even the most optimistic statistics I'm aware of say that at most 25% of Java version players use mods - and that's any mods, like OptiFine, cheats or minimaps, not just Forge.
>>
By the way,

>A notable gameplay change is that shields (when fully raised) block 100% melee damage instead of 66%

Their integer->object list/map implementations, however, are on par in performance with the leading libraries for the same purpose. There's still hope.

by the time you have prot4 diamond armor, you don't even need a sheild, you can facetank arrows and zombies pretty reliably. Even moreso considering you can just offhand some steak and regen from it swiftly (though I am recalling they are going to nerf healing a bit in 1.11, right?)
>>
>>154289495
>I know there are a lot of 1.7 mods out there but people just refuses to even try to update their shit.

That's because the changes from 1.7 to 1.8 and beyond are so huge it's actually less effort to re-write your whole mod from scratch. You know, your mod, which took a full year's worth of all of your free time to write in the first place.
>>
>>154289967
Sounds like it's less IO-bound, which means there's less time where code is waiting to run, which means the CPU spends more time active (since code is running more often).
>>
>>154293587

All of the stuff these performance boosters offer is already done by Mojang now. FastCraft in particular has always been snake oil, designed around fixing a Forge bug that Player kept a secret for a long fucking time until Skyboy found it. Lex then quietly submitted Skyboy's fix under his own name when he realized he had been the cause of 1.7.10 being miserably slow.

Player obfuscates FastCraft for a reason, and that's because he doesn't want plebs to realize it's all about free Curse bucks. Even Optifine still does more than FastCraft.

>>154294303
Your other option is to keep letting your CPU get hot. It's not Mojang's "fault" that they use as much available CPU cycles as possible, that's actually to their credit, that's what you're supposed to do as a programmer.

Would you rather have computer programs that artificially slow themselves down (basically underclocked PROGRAMS) so that the CPUs of people with shitty systems don't get hot?

The reason anon's CPU is heating up is literally the opposite of coding poorly.

What anon is saying is like "Oh, since they got rid of the potholes, cars can go really fast without having a bumpy ride, so they do go really fast. Now the road is really noisy, because I'm an idiot and live four inches from the road and leave my windows open. The workmen made the road shitty by getting rid of the potholes! What assholes!"
>>
>>154289702
this is what's wrong with Mojang. Fixing problems that are NOT. PROBLEMS.

I'm not a game designer. I'm not a programmer. My skills lie in networking and server administration. I've been playing games since I was a kid. This problem, as someone that PLAYS games and troubleshoots and mods and shit, I would look into 'Why are there so many mobs in this area?'

and obviously looking into 'why does Thing happen?' they'd discover, OH, Minecraft has a lot of RNG drops which you need to do shit. These drop from mobs, which spawn in dark areas like mob spawners which are built to nullify the problem of RNG drops by having massed mobs to kill. holy fucking wow batman that was so hard to make those facts connect together.
bump up item drops from minimum 0 to minimum 1, increase effectiveness of the Looting enchantment. Done, wait and see how it plays out.

but no their response is to make a fucking counter that tracks how many mobs are in a block. fucking brilliant, there's no way that could possibly be less performant than 40 mobs in one block.
>>
>>154297283
>not having cheats on

Smart move, being the administrator of your world and not having the tools you need in emergency situations. Inb4 "I have no self control so if i have cheats on I am literally going to use them to cheat"

that said, even if you are a dumdum like you who doesn't think ahead for worse case situations, you can always just open lan and turn on cheats then, even if your world has cheats disabled.

Why do they call commands cheats anyway, that give a legitimate and important tool such a negative and easy to shitpost cannotation.

There's literally no denying that Notch used to accomplish more in a SINGLE MONTH than an entire team at Mojang accomplishes in a fucking year.

No exaggeration, no joke, no trolling, it's just the sad truth. They hire amateurs and it really shows. Mojang is quite possibly the worst mainstream game development company since the dawn of video games, even worse than LJN.

The worst part is how incompetent faggots like Dinnerbone actually have a grudge against Notch despite Notch turning him from a poorfag mod API amateur into a dev at the most valuable game company of all time. Fuck him.

there's only so much you can cut from IE before it stops working. Duplicates you can safely remove, ie JABBA.
I'm personally not certain of being able to safely remove the FTB utility mods but I've heard you can.

actual content-adding mods, like Botania, have to remain because of the issue you just ran into. Everything in it is tied together. In worldgen and minetweaker scripts.

You aren't wrong really. I do try to limit myself on how deep I get into using projE for things, like I am not making any use of collectors, so all my emc is from things i've gotten personally. I kind of see it as a trash can with perks, and it's always nice to see how big you can make some numbers go. I'm wondering how possible it'd be to make an alchemists tome without power flowers. I think it'd be possible but just require a lot of nether mining, since the best emc racket without using collectors or feedback loops right now is magma blocks

Also, this might sound stupid, but I am trying to satisfy my itch for a full playthrough of mc and somewhat get it over with quickly so I can go back to being productive. MC sucks up all my time so I am hoping some MAWPC mods can speed shit up

>So. Many. Fucking. Spawners on the mossy cobble level
They're alright. Turn down the world gen though. Once you've cleared one, that's more than enough. There's not really any worthwhile loot to justify doing so, just the satisfaction of being able to say you cleared one the hard way. Much more fun and challenging with only early/mid-game gear. No shame in bringing a TCon rapier, since all mobs spawn with armour on, and their gear gets better the deeper you get.

BC has always been a different mod.

>>154384730
Not retarded, just new to Minecraft mods I'd say.
Forestry and TE were addons that brought conversion between IC2 and BC.

BC originally added simpler machines than IC2 and the ability to transport items via Pipes/Tubes.

It also added Oil which was one of the best energy sources before thermal generators were messed around with.

If youre gonna get it try and get Logistics Pipes with it. That shit's GOAT.

Any good resources online to help learn Vanilla Redstone. Ive always been bad at it and the best thing ive made was this prototype erectable wall. While other people are building computers and shit.
>>
I want to build something that my family and I could live comfortably in.
>>
>>154447601
You literally need to copy things block for block until this stuff dawns on you

Start witha 2x2 door then makea 3x3 door
>>
>>154448114
What this guy said. I'm not very good with redstone wizardry either, but the more shit I copy, the more I learn and develop for myself.
>>
>>154447601
making shit like 2x2/ZxY doors, that pop-up wall you have? that's shit you can actually make in survival and its useful and neat.

a computer you can add shit together and have it display is not useful. its only neat.

as for learning, see >>154448114 and >>154448349
its all basically electrical engineering with a twist of weird not-physics. the easiest way to learn it is to take the thing you want to make, copy it, and pick it apart to learn how it works then build it again yourself about five more times until you get it. its sort of like tactile learning but without touching anything.

Redstone noob here again.

Why does the bottom piston underneath the sandstone only get activated when pushed next to the redstone block, and not when I push the redstone block into it?
>>
>>154458445
Quasiconnectivity.

Pushing the redstone against the sandstone makes the sandstone indirectly power the piston, but the piston isn't notified of this because it isn't immediately adjacent to the block that changed.

Try this: Push the redstone block against the sandstone, and then place a dead bush next to the piston. Magic!
>>
>>154458689
Ok, that's dumb.
>>
>>154458961
the best part is it's a "feature" now.

So many redstone builds make use of this that it's not something mojang is going to try to fix on java (though it's fixed on the win 10 version)

it makes a lot of things possible, honestly, but it's definitely unintuitive for those not in the know.
>>

I decided to try to make the 2x2 door and the 3x3 door like you guys suggested.
2x2 was simple enough, but the 3x3 was surprisingly much harder because of the quasiconnectivity bug you guys told me about.

Since you do have Extra Utils, use the Dark Glass to prevent that. From what I know, Killer Joes can kill through blocks as long as they are within a certain range.
>>
>>154509867
I grew to appreciate them by tryin that one elytra course map where you are pretty much freefalling through tunnels.

Elytra can get retardedly fast if you have enough space, and they control very nicely. Plus, they make a really relaxing sound when flying.

Overall I'd say it's a 10/10 addition, and I am glad some mods already have ways for you to attach it to armor (enderio and blood magic)

I also like the offhand slot a lot, lets you mix things up a little, or basically give any weapon a special effect (I use PSI, so that, plus elytra, plus a sword means I can swoosh in and slice something up, it's pretty fun. I just wish MC had more flying enemies to go with these changes)

Beta testing is fun and helpful to things you care about. I run Firefox Nightly. It's still really stable, I get to try out new features literally daily, and if I find a bug I get to report it myself and know that the devs have discovered it.

Something tells me you play premade packs, probably because you're scared to use the latest versions of mods.

Okay, so I have three kinds of 1.8 stones (Andesite, Diorite and Granite) in my custom modpack as added by three mods: Et Futurum, Buttania and Chisel. Each of the mods have their own quirks:

Chisel stones can be chiseled (obviously) into other shapes, but can't be turned into slabs or stairs. They are also generated.
Buttania stones can be cycled among other stones, including Smooth Stone and Basalt. Slab and stair recipes are implemented.
Et Futurum stones are added along with other post-1.7.10 features. Quartz-related crafting recipes are also added.

The thing is that neither of these stones are oredicted into one. This means that you can't use Chisel stones to craft slabs and stairs, etc.

Is there a non-Minetweaker way to unify these stones or should I just live with it?

Ender IO has solid progression and doesn't offer ridiculous speeds like TE does, and they have now free power via lava
>>
>>154546415
It's also much easier to craft and use then TE machines, not to mention how its operations are cheaper and it has better output. And as you mentioned, it's extremely easy to get infinite power from lava as long as long as you can make octadic capacitors and have a way to generate lava using RF.
But it's not easymode magic boxes at all because it's updated already right
>>
>>154546415
>solid progression

I'm not that anon, and I like EIO, so I am not just trying to shit on it out of dislike for it, but how is the progression solid?
The progression is only as deep as making an alloy furnace, then making a vat, slice and splice, and soul binder. Those are the only machines that make mod specific things, and 3 of the 4 of them are very easy to make. (the only reason the soul binder is hard to make is due to needing enderman heads)
>>
>>154546923

Sorry I meant "no free power via lava", at least not one that I was aware of. While RF usage is probably lower than TE, energy generation is pretty weak in Ender IO and you'll have to rely on external mods for that, giving more power to the modpack creator.

>>154547051

While I do agree crafting progression is on the cheap side by default, the hard mode in the config makes things a bit more expensive and balanced imo (except for conduit output, which is a measly 2 - i increased that to 12).

Listen I'm not going to pretend Ender IO is the pinnacle of balanced, it's not. But I dunno, I find automating it more fun than TE.

Also would like to point out that adjusting power usage and recipes is really easy with Ender IO with the provided xml's.

plz no bully?
>>
>>154550163
>at least not one that I was aware of
EIO's stirling generator accepts lava buckets and produces more RF than what TE and MFR use to generate a bucket of lava if you use an octadic capacitor. I don't know how much RF Actually Additions uses to generate a bucket of lava so I'm not sure if it still works on 1.10.
>>
>>154550848
Straight up, whatever system you are thinkin of using whatever infinite lava back and forth is rendered kind of moot by the fact that enderIO has somewhat easy-ish to make solar panels.

At least when the mod's in normal mode. I have no clue how it's recipe is effected by EIO hardmode

>>154550163
no bully senpai, I was just curious about your thought process. I could see the mod feeling more progression focused on it's hardmode, which I hadn't considered, as I don't use hardmode myself.
>>
>>154550848

Didn't know Stirling Generators also accepted lava buckets, think I might disable that or half the output in my modpack.
>>
>>154550848
1 bucket generates 1.06 million rf

if that's pure vanilla you are playing, my best suggestion would be to lighten the outer edges of the redstone texture at the area where they z-fight. it'll still happen technically, but if you do the texture right, it'll be impossible to notice.

I fixed this btw. (1.10.2)

in the "redstone_wire.json" file in minecraft it says to basically apply the "redstone_dot" model to any piece of redstone thats alone or on a corner or on a cross.

So all that needed to be done was to change the z-level of the "redstone_dot" model so that it would just sit ontop of everything nicely with no z-fighting.

Left side is the original "redstone_dot.json" model file from minecraft and on the right is the modified one. Then you just toss the modified json file into the resource pack.

Thanks to the creater of the "CodeCrafted" texture pack. I probably wouldn't have been able to figure that out on my own.

No, it's shit. I barely get 250 EU/t out of it. It makes 800mb/t of steam, but since the steam/water ratio for BRs is 1:1, I need to have all those reservoirs. And even then I have to stick the control rods halfway in.

Bit of a question about opencomputers/lua.
since data type isn't static, or at least to my understanding it isn't, while loops work like
while(x, y, z are any values except false and null) continue iterating, yes?

Also how do for loops work in lua?
Java, they're easy - for(variable, condition, thing to do each loop) - lua, I just can't wrap my head round it because it's way too simplified in most examples I've seen.
>>
>>154361895
I'm looking at this picture and I'm fascinated.
What mod pack is this?
What is the difference between the lighter stone at the top and the darker stone at the bottom?
What caused the chunks to lose all the stone and dirt but keep the ores where they were? Some kind of quarry?

I'm guessing its a modpack since some of the ores like copper have dense ore varieties.

Nah, it's just me fucking around trying to get 2 mods (dense ores and strata - had to fork both) to play nicely together
The hole is from me using /cofh clearblocks to test everything is generating correctly. Though, you can use the botania terra forming rod to do something similar - but only above y61
Dark layers are strata stone, which become harder to mine the deeper you get. I added in a config so I can change the required mining level if I want
All the ores in my WIP environment/pack are setup in the configs for both dense ores and strata, so they have procedurally genned textures. Some are still kinda shit though, but that's what resource packs are for.
>has 5 resource packs just to change/fix simple things on my sp worlds
>>
>>154568286
Ok, I think I get it now.
The purpose of the "do" and the "end" is just to mark the difference between conditions of the loop and what is being looped, right?
The equivalent in java would be the "{" and the "}" if I'm right?

enviromine is sort of one stop shop survival mod I think.
Has thirst, heat, air quality, and sanity, maybe some other things.

Actually, what I meant was more like more ores, dimensions, dungeons and shit like that.
More layers to go thorugh, vanilla MC literally has two layers of progression, iron and diamond.
There was that mod where you could customize your tools with different heads and stick and shit like that. I loved it but I can't remember it's name.
It was also compatible with another good ore and mining mod.

Tinkerers construct.

And you build a neat mutiblock smelter to cast your tool heads from.
>>
>>154574854
That's not what survival mods mean in MC.
Think like fallout's survival mode. With jsawyer installed.

What you want is - actually, I don't know what the fuck Tinker's construct is catagorized as - but just normal mods.
>>
>>154574926
Nah m8
It doesn't have any tech shit.
I can't check the exact name now since the effin AT website won't load at work but it's something along the lines of TFCPack or Terrafirmapack or some shit or other.

Although if you don't feel like managing thirst and """realistic""" gravity with cave-ins and seasons and temperature dependent crops and """believable""" smelting and forging and ore spawn rates then TFC might be a lil too much.

You can play around with most of that stuff in the configs tho.
>>
>>154575667
Tinker's is a tech mod. Its just fairly limited with its tools/weapons, ore doubler, and utility gizmos and a way to turn cooked meat into leather.

Botania is similar with its utility items and tools that repair with its own version of energy.

Actually Additions is also in the same vein with a few more crops, RF energy and the same kind of stuff.

Pomf has mappings for over 40% of Minecraft so far, so I'd say "sort of, depending on what you want to do, your mileage may vary".

As for Fabric, most of the fun stuff is still awaiting more Pomf mappings, as well as improvements in the build system (a proper Maven repository, obfuscating mods to some set of names which change less often). Once those are done, it should hopefully be usable for modding.
