Companions don't steal your xp at all. They get their own, based on their own actions and global xp (objectives, ally kills). Just take Carrier and either remove its attack precept, or remove its weapon. Crit is only good on weapons that have high base crit properties.

Generally 20% crit chance and 2.0x crit damage are the minimum that you need, although it varies a bit by weapon type.

The normal Hek isn't worth doing a crit build for. Only Vaykor Hek should be built for crit.

In the long run, you want at least 2 elemental mods even on a crit build. If you're still leveling up the weapon, put elemental mods on first. Crit is a more of a nice extra feature that you add after you've maxed/forma'd the weapon enough to get everything else you need.
