wargs edition

http://rimworldgame.com/

RimWorld follows a number of survivors from a crashed space liner as they build a colony on a frontier world at the rim of known space. Inspired by the space western vibe of Firefly, the deep simulation of Dwarf Fortress, the epic scale of Dune, and Warhammer 40,000.

I went lone colonist and the bitch got injured. It says her wound requires treatment to heal, will it never heal otherwise? Also it's been like five days now and the wound still hasn't gotten infected, what the hell? What determines the chances of getting infection? Is it just luck on my part?
>>
>>153731769
How dirty the floor is affects it. Mouse over the wound, it'll tell you how bad it is, like 4/5, or 20/30, etc. It'll slowly go up and heal, but you've got a good chance to bleed out or get an infection if it does. If you get an infection you're pretty much dead with nobody else to heal it. You should be cautious around stuff like knives and high-powered guns like sniper rifles, they're likely to make you bleed out if you don't have a doctor.

you can't remove it without mods like bionic spine from Advanced Prosthetics or Glittertech, but if you give the person bionic arms and legs it will increase manipulation and movement enough that it will make up for it.
Frail gives -30% Movement and -30% manipulation, but two bionic legs gives 40% movement and two bionic arms gives 40% manipulation (20 each arm/leg).

Gentlement, I've just released the version 1.2 of SSC Tweaks for RimWorld alpha 15. Grab it while it's fresh:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/93iw25nxagzq5vg/SSC%20Tweaks%20v1.2.zip?dl=0

This is a simple .xml balance mod I'm releasing only at /rwg/. Most features are quite vanilla-like, here's a list:

* Pigs are larger, lazier, grow faster and have larger litters.
* Stronger wild boars who need no man can haul a whole stack.
* Getting a muffalo naked and groping its tits yields more results.
* Grass and tall grass now spread fast like a weed.
* Yes, you can grow shrooms underground. Corn and hay too.
* Batch cooking, because Crouca Miñoca hauling five whole potatoes is cringeworthy.
* Lavish meal is less expensive but requires more ingredients.
* Cheese, charqui, pickles and scrambled eggs. Get your kitchen tidy.
* Tanned leather and treated wool, rev up all those tiny piles of random leather and wool sitting in your tailor room.

There's a more detailed list in the Readme.txt file.

If you use my mod, I'd love some feedback - do you think something should be nerfed/buffed/changed?
>>
>>153760218
>* Lavish meal is less expensive but requires more ingredients.

Why would you make Lavish meals consume MORE resources? They're already not worth it.
>>
>>153760218
NOTE: some features have been removed. They are:
* Silage - there was little to no point on silage, since hay takes ages to spoil.
* Stone slab floors - there are already better mods doing that. Here's one: https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=4373.0

>>153760394
I should've reworded that better.
Vanilla lavish meal: 10 veggies + 10 (meat or animal product)
Rebalanced lavish meal: 5 veggies + 5 meat + 5 animal product

So it's cheaper, but it requires all three categories to be crafted.
>>
>>153756854
I recommend finding a way to the edge of the map, because raiders WILL drop pod onto you.

>* Batch cooking, because Crouca Miñoca hauling five whole potatoes is cringeworthy.
>he can't into efficient cooking so he makes a mod for it
Real sad tbqh. Learning to reduce hauling times using stockpile zones and priorities is part of base planning. I bet you don't even know about benches.
>>
should tranny colonists get affected by their birth sex's psychic drone?

also, are there any ftms? I've only seen mtfs
>>
>>153760954
If you're interested in some features but don't want the others, I've made the mod fully modular.

>Learning to reduce hauling times using stockpile zones and priorities is part of base planning
I'm aware you can create two small stockpiles near the oven, put them on "critical" priority and have the cooker drop the meals on the floor. However, this means one of your haulers will be constantly stuck at the kitchen hauling five potatoes from one stockpile to another every time the cooker grabs some ingredients.

In an ideal world, this could be solved if we could set up stockpiles to only accept full stacks or if they had some "wait until this stockpile has less than X to haul in stuff". But since we don't have that yet, batch cooking does the trick.

Is this a thing? I guess i will have to check all colonists background now.
>>
>>153760954
Besides hauling, batch cooking also solves the following situations like:

>bill set up to make meals until you got X of them
>someone picks a single meal, so your stockpile has X-1 meals
>cooker runs half map to cook ONE meal and resume his/her work at something else

Now, imagine the cooker does five meals at once. People need to take at least five meals before the cooker needs to stop his/her secondary task and go back to the kitchen.

Also, it's plain immersion-breaking you can't cook more shit at once... people IRL cook stuff for four, five, ten meals at once.
>>
>>153762264
Sparkles is the only tranny.
>>
>>153762319
>>153761807
If you set the stockpile to critical you'll be creating the problem where the hauler moves 5 potatoes at a time, but using a lower priority will mean that after the hauler hauls the 75 meat, they'll move on to a different hauling task. Once they begin that task they won't stop and change to another task until it's finished, and they won't start the next hauling task if they're not sufficiently close to the kitchen/fridge area. Realistically is plays out like this: hauler wandering at corn field -> checks what to haul -> hauling corn to fridge is best -> hauls corn to fridge - > hauler wandering at fridge -> checks what to haul -> hauling corn is best -> cook makes meals -> kitchen stockpile depleted -> hauler already started hauling corn and won't stop.

The problem where a colonist walks halfway across the map because they've got a higher priority job can be fixed by setting better work priorities. You wouldn't want batch harvesting just because a colonist harvests one tile of corn and then hauls 10 corn back to the stockpile.

So apparently altitude affects the amount of power you get from solar panels. Now all my components and steel are in a stack of solar panels and I can't farm because the temperature in the greenhouse dropped to -60.

>>
>>153763529
The problem arises whenever the stockpile in question has an higher priority than all the other stockpiles, even if it's on "normal". So often the solution goes as:
* Near the stove - important
* Freezer - preferred
* Misc. - normal
(Or something like this... the _actual_ priority isn't important, but their relative rank)

Now, what about the other stockpiles? If you set them to "normal" or "preferred", the problem is still there; "important" and people will keep hauling ores or other shit while the fucking potatoes are on the rain, since it has an higher priority than the freezer. (Or worse - they haul five potatoes from the fields to near the stove)

>You wouldn't want batch harvesting just because a colonist harvests one tile of corn and then hauls 10 corn back to the stockpile.
The problem with harvesting is far smaller - a crop takes days to grow, and you can easily synchronize the whole growing zone (so as soon as someone harvests a corn, there are 20 other to harvest).

You don't need that if you can find a spot with a decent amount of gravel. That way you can put a sun lamp there, wall it off and farm taters.

Then I'd go with the priority of stonecutting -> hydroponics -> geothermal to secure food production for a long time.

>This problem with vegetables dying in the rain can be solved by using a stockpile that only accepts vegetables in the hp range of 0%-30%, set it to the highest priority and it will serve as a rescue stockpile for endangered food.
The problem is still there, though. Hauling still needs huge improvements, and the ad hoc solutions people find to its problems probably would not survive the fixing. I just skipped the whole thing by removing the problem.

>>153760954
>Learning to reduce hauling times using stockpile zones and priorities is part of base planning
After thinking a bit about this: I agree on general grounds, but not on this case.

Stuff as "put consumption near production" should be part of the base planning, since this is dynamic and forces the player to make choices ("should I ignore that rich soil there just to get the growing zone near the kitchen? What should I do if the ideal tailoring area has water and mud?").

However, this kind of micromanaging we're talking about does not force the player to do choices. It does not add a challenge to the game; as soon as you have a pre-made solution (like stockpiles near the oven), you can simply copy and paste them everywhere. And again, a hauling overhaul (pun unintended) would get rid of them.
>>
>>153799602

That's how much it'll bleed out per day, not current total. The "Blood Loss (adjective)" is what percentage it has already bled out.
>>
>>153801160
Seriously? It literally says 'bleeding rate'
>>
>>153801310
Yeah, having bled out any at all will cause the "Blood Loss" one to show up, starting at trivial and climbing, like infections do. The bleeding rate represents how quickly the blood loss meter climbs, and if you watch will go down as wounds get treated, stopping once they're all bandaged up, or climb as they get injured. More holes, more bleeding, quicker death.
>>

Hauling is easily fixable if they just add 'hauling zones' to focus on.

Helps if I add the picture.

Doors on both sides might not be necessary, but it makes it easier for them to walk through the hallway without deciding to path over traps.

If you zone-forbid the traps, they will never re-arm them since they can't technically reach it.
>>
>>153820318
save, move a pawn over 1 not armed trap on the side, force drop 1 piece of clothing, build a trap under an item that is forbidden like the club in the screen, rearm the trap under the clothing piece, make haul the 2 items
you'll see if they can loot the maze from the doors this way and if something bad happens just reload

Seems looting can't be done diagonally.

I've never had anyone trigger a trap and get crowned with the gap there, but I dunno, I'd have to make it all doors if I want to fill the hallway.

Maybe even double thickness stone doors in case they break one or try and burn it.

At the moment the only serious problems you have after the first year or so are RNG crap like bugs in your bedroom or some shit. Needs some late game, slow burn threats and incentives to expand.

At the moment, most of the time things go wrong is just a threat out of nowhere. Maybe a late game even called "invasion" where the enemy move in in force, put up a forward base and gradually push forward, very slowly.

>b-but they're dead in both cases
It's not about their wellbeing, it's about how cruel you're being and the demoralizing effect it has on a fellow colonist that sees it happening. I'd agree that having half my organs harvested and then being sold into rape torture slavery is better than being dead but there's no doubt that being killed is the more merciful option on some level.
>mercy? b-but they tried to kill you!

They're bleeding out on the ground. I could either leave them to freeze/bleed/get eaten by a bear or capture them, or capture them.

I can't support them because I barely have the food for my colonists, let alone the 4 prisoners I rescued from the battlefield. If you release them, they will return to kill you.

Choices are to kill them, or enslave them. Enslaving them gives them a chance.

Could the reign of useless colonists with 15 in animal skills be coming to an end?
>>
>>153852739
>Choices are to kill them, or enslave them. Enslaving them gives them a chance.
I think you might be genuinely autistic. Only someone that can't comprehend the concept of multiple viewpoints could struggle this much with the idea that you can prefer having A being done to you over B, but considers doing A to be worse than doing B.

You can prefer being tortured over being killed, and also consider torturing someone as being more cruel(and therefore more demoralizing) than simply killing them.

The fact that colonists feel that partially harvesting someone's organs or selling them into slavery is worse than killing them is explained by the simple fact that colonists don't give a fuck about the prisoner's well-being, they care about themselves preforming acts of cruelty, with their own hands. If you were to execute a starving African child every time one was about die of malnutrition there would still be the same amount of dead African children, but you would feel bad about doing it even though the end result is the same, because you're human.

I would appreciate this game more if it weren't SO FUCKING SLOW.

Or maybe I should just cheat and start with 5 colonists instead of 3.
>>
>>153856005
Don't fall for the pyromancy meme. You need to imprison and recruit literally every pair of able hands. Even if it feels like you're wasting food and they have high recruitment difficulties, eventually they'll join, and every time you do you'll feel the burden decrease.
>>
>>153856517
If only there was a game mode where you start the game with 5 colonists instead of 3.
>>
Okay, I think ultimate freezing zone is too tough without cheating. The temperatures go so low that you don't get traders or even raids. I survived this far just because I lucked out and got a couple of thrumbos who froze to death and provided the colony with some sustenance. Pic related, note the lack of cold snap.

Wait for some raiders to bring you parkas before relocating the base.

>>
>>153861789
i guess in that case they would have to add more factions. Some times there's only one pirate faction hostile and 5 others that are neutral, so taking the pirates out would eliminate any raid aspect from the game.Would be nice if they gave you raiding as well tho.

Guise, i figured out the profits to be made with drugs if you are going to sell it industrially.
The value to look for is V/MV (Preduct Value/Raw Material Value). The higher it is the more money you can milk out of your raw products.
Value is standard Market Value ie the actual price is lower

As you can see the best thing to sell is Flake followed by Smokeleaf Joints and Yayo. Performance-enhancing drugs and medicines aren't profitable since you're likely selling at a lower value than standard market value, making a loss. Medicine manufacture for exporting is useless and beer takes too long to make to be profitable.

I'm fairly sure that the work required to make sculptures change depending on the rock, granite is harder, marble is easier IIRC.

everything is smooth sailing from there, all I have to do is plan expansions and keep an eye on food, power and raw resources. Helps to have a top tier crafter or two because then you can pump out high quality clothing and power armors like hot cakes

I've never seen anyone selling fucking luciferium...
>>
>>153944619
If it's core/glitter world tech no ordinary merchant will sell it. Luciferium is a luxury drug.
>>
>>153944619
i feel like i always see pirate merchants selling it
mostly trade ships though admittedly
>>
Would a trigger-happy jogger be able to kite shit efficiently?
>>
I set up my drug policy so my colonists take drugs if their mood dips below a certain level (regardless of joy level) but they don't take shit

>>
>>153948373
From downed pirates mainly. I also have a good doctor - Jen.

>From downed pirates mainly
Sure, but how do you down them?
The storyteller will just straight up kill anyone who gets knocked down if it decides you have too many colonists.
>>
>>153948497
Aren't most pirates like 99 difficulty to recruit? Doesn't that take ages of them leeching your food and trying to escape?

I only ever bought slaves and took in wanderers. Anyone i found or captured i fixed up and sent back for the rep bonuses.
>>
Any more mods for alpha 15? Trying to get Prepare carefully and show all survivors on the top mod. Those two alone should be fine.
>>
>>153942005
Nope, funnily enough it doesn't. Same ice sheet, I had a sprawling tunnel with some doors kept always open and a bunch of heaters near the entrance to keep my miner warm. It was 255 in the section where the heaters were, then 230 on the door itself, then 215 in the section behind it, then 190-something on the next door, you get the idea. You can have open doors with perpetual hell on one side and cozy tundra on the other.

Pirates are pretty easy to recruit.
Tribals are 99 difficulty.

I think it's reversed if you're playing as tribals, though.

By pirates I meant fractions that attack me - I have one with like -20 so they are easy to recruit.
