I just came here to thank all of you. I got Crimzon Clover, REVOLVER360 and mushi from the sale. I already have 7 hours in Crimzon Clover, 2 in mushi and 2 in 360.

I wanted to ask about what is the best method to train so I can 1cc the game and then try to get the best score possible. I can't fucking pass stage 2 in CC without getting a game over on the boss, Mushi is a fucking nightmare in stage 3 and Crimzon Clover is great but my eyes hurt by the time I reach stage 2 boss.

I more meant "only five stages" as in "every other traditional Touhou shmup game has six stages". The "crappy shmup" part comes from the generally unpolished feeling I get from playing Touhou 2, compared to Touhou 4 and 5. The hitboxes are wonky, there's no focus fire, stuff like that.

Mushi stage 3 is a difficulty spike and it doesn't really get any easier from there. I don't have much advice besides utilize the practice mode and learn the stages well. You can use the [Fire] button on the stage select to toggle between starting a stage at the beginning, at the midboss, or at the stage boss, so use that too once you get a good grip on earlier sections of the stages to practice later sections more conveniently.

Those are the usual sticking points. Just keep practicing with the Stage Select. You could try Novice mode but the final bosses are probably easier than the stages you're stuck on with that mode

Nah because high speed is balanced out with pointblanking as you can move faster to clear shit out, if you stay back and let shit get hectic with high speed you're gonna crash into bullets trying to dodge other bullets, 3 speed is a nice balance imo. So do i mate but in the southwest, we have 2 worth visiting one is timewarp arcade in bridgewater for loads of arcade games (inc psyvariar revision, soukygurentai and parodius etc) and the other is minehead seafront for a load of pinball machines (i play pin a fair bit to). How far are you from the arcade club in manchester? That place is japan tier with bum loads of cave amongst basically everything else (google arcade club).

Yeah, if you don't mind rank management for the first two games and being flexible and strategic for the third one.

The first one limits the rank to a certain point (you gain only 5 rank IIRC) and the second one has YGW rank (no +5 rank limit).

The third one requires to use the majority, if not all, dolls you have available to make progress in the game.

Treasure is still a pretty niche company. Just because they are more popular than Cave or whatever, doesn't mean they are overhyped (as if this would play any role in their product quality anyway, you hipster).

It's sad that Iuchi didn't develope more shooting games, that's true, but when he developed something it was A+ quality. The reason they deveoped so little is just because they are an actual company, who has to pay attention to profit, not like meme developers like Cave who shat out rehashes every 6 months.

It does, the card they play maybe unintentionally is value through scarcity, cave has so many games now that to the outside onlooker it devalues the product as they all seem roughly the same. Imagine if only one type of shoe ever existed that's the card treasure plays, it might be shit but it's scarce and lacks anything to compare it to to realize it's shit. Liking treasure is WAY more hipster than liking cave at this stage, maybe 10/15 years ago the point would stand but now that they have a massive catalogue and ever increasing access removing all the hype and special jap arcade only status? not so much.

I appreciate what Cave did too, but that has nothing to do with it. Similarity in their games is nothing special for STG developers. Psykio games also look very similar to each other. Same goes for Raizing. However what sets games apart is simply their quality. That's why Battle Garegga is so much more popular than any other Raizing game, because it has higher quality.

I'm not saying Cave is bad, but their games just don't have the quality as games like Ikaruga or Gradius V. They don't have the graphics, the art style, the music, and to me also not the gameplay. Simple as that. That's why Treasure was so good. Because they put out high quality shmups on a level noone else ever did. Not because they only made a few games or whatever. That's just bullshit.

It's both quality AND quantity.

Now, it doesn't actually have +3000 (TM) stages, but it still has a fuckhuge amount of unique stages and bosses regardless. The most of any SHMUP easily.

Keep in mind, in 2 specific modes (Chronicle and CS Mode) there definitely will be some repetition of previous stages and bosses. But also remixes of them and new stages/bosses entirely that you won't see in standard and EX arcade mode.

Also, gorgeous music and nice and clean upscaled-PS2-style visuals.

For 15 it's a no-brainer. I bought it on release and I'm not even close to done with it. Mainly because I physically can't improve, but no, it's fantastic.

I mean I know 5-stage bullet hell SHMUPs with zero level-design are the norm now, but it doesn't mean they're higher quality than a game that has more! Darius always had ~15 stages, this one has +50 at least!

I've heard it's just new ships and music basically and the rest is remixed stages and bosses once more. Dunno if it's at least completely new remixes, but there's that. They're also only playable in the context of DLC Mode, not in any other mode.

For 5 bucks a pop I guess it's okay, but even for me there's a limit to how often you can expect me to play the same stages or remixes of them. At least they could have some stages themed after the games the ships are from. But it's also only like a handful of people that ported and work on the home release so that's a bit of a shame.

It's alright. The first game is the product of developer's inexperience with shmups, so expect it to be unpolished and unoptimized for modern PCs. They vastly improved with the 2nd one, which is my favourite game in the trilogy. The 3rd one is a standard bullet hell shmup. It's alright IMO.

What should be my first Shmup I try to 1CC? I want it to preferably be something from the Arcades or at the very an established classic.

I'm leaning towards Gradius 1 because I can already beat the first stage without dying. The only downside is that game is so very punishing if you die once outside of the beginning of a stage.
