Gascoigne's theme will always be my favourite. It sounds like the hunt itself, relentless and thumping.

I love the Living Failures' theme, too, it's the most grand, cosmic and dare I say majestic theme in the game. That part where they summon the meteors is a really amazing moment, this crescendo that feels like we're witnessing something actually wondrous and terrible.

Ebrietas's theme is the best in the game, honestly. It feels like a real confrontation with a fucking GREAT ONE. And she IS the realest Great One you meet before Mergo: she isn't human-made, she isn't one of a legion, she isn't a brainless monstrosity. This is the Eldritch Truth at its purest. This is what Insight looks like. The source of healing blood. And she's fucking pathetic! She doesn't want to fight. She's been locked away and abandoned for so long, left alone with her grief for Rom, the closest to a kindred spirit she had in the humans who she had allowed to take her. And the song starts as a triumphant "beat the boss!" theme and it slowly gets more tragic as it goes on until it's practically begging you to stop. You're butchering a beautiful creature, a wondrous one-of-a-kind being above what you can even perceive, who never wished you ill, and the soundtrack is so essential to getting that feeling and it does such a fantastically perfect job of nailing it with its flow from a fairly decent bossfight theme to something tragic that almost shames you, and it does it so subtly halfway through you'd never have even realized it was doing it over the battle.

Ebrietas has the best design in the entire game, her arena is the best area in the entire game, and her song is the best in the entire game. She's the Great Grey Wolf Sif of Bloodborne in every way except with the most glaring issues in Sif's design and bossfight completely fixed

I admit the first time you meet them, they can be a little bit overwhelming. Especially because the Black Church set girl is in hiding and jumps you. But once you know where they are and how they work, you can just creep up on Black, trigger her aggro and then get her to follow you all the way downstairs where you can fight her alone. The other woman won't follow you. Or at least I don't think so. She didn't follow me.

I typically find NPC hunters tougher than bosses. Most bosses are big and easier to maneuver around. What makes NPC hunter battles scary to me is that not only are they as fast as you; they're small, they're somewhat smart so long as you're confined to the same area as them, and they do a LOT of damage. Their equipment is much better than whatever you've got on hand and they have no QS Bullet limit.

Shaman Bone Blades can help with large mobs, especially if there's one big bruiser and a bunch of weaker enemies. They're pretty much the only sane way to fight the Street Sharks protecting the Rakuyo.
Poison knives are good for a few boss fights and NPC fights.

If this is your first playthrough (and your first Souls game no less), then you really don't need to worry about how your build turns out this time. Just level up whatever you want and see how it treats you, and don't care about optimizing or minmaxing until your next build.

A few points to remember: You want to get your primary damage stat to 50, your secondary damage stat to 25 (if possible) and your vit to 40~ or higher. Endurance is a luxury in most cases, don't bother with it unless your weapon really needs it.

Pure Arc is versatile, yeah. A lot of weapons can be converted to Arcane.

If you want more versatility in weapon choices, you can sacrifice hunters tools and go 50 strength 25 skill and ignore arc, and just Heavy Abyssal every weapon in the game into a strength weapon.
