Like most weapons, Bows are gear dependent, so if it felt weak in 4U it's either lack of a perfect set or lack of experience.

Bows are fantastic in Gen and I'd highly recommend learning them. I used to swap to Bow for certain fights in 4U due to the fun of rolling comfortably and shooting faces, and Gen makes that possible in every fight thanks to Adept.

For Normal 2, stand approximately 2 to 3 rolls away from the monster. For Normal 3, 2 to 4 rolls.

Point and shoot. It's always better to be shooting at what you can hit than swinging and missing what you can't. For whatever reason, bowgun shots in MHGen come out slightly below the centre of your targeting reticle. Always aim just a *teensy* bit above your target.

Normal 3 and Normal 2 function differently. You don't necessarily use your Normal 3's before your Normal 2's, sometimes you exclusively use Normal 2.

Crouching fire isn't about the increased clip size, but rather the increased rate of fire. You shoot 30% faster in crouching fire. Use crouching fire whenever you have a large enough opening, but don't try to force it.

Going into crouching fire and then only firing 3 shots isn't worth it.

My experience thus far at 300 hours in this game, with of people using cats here and there: they can't carry, they're sort of "just there" and I will gladly launch them when they try to hog my weakness exploit zones.

I actually like the story in 4U, it is kinda cliché'd and rushed sometimes, but gets the important stuff right. The whole build up to the reveal of Shagaru Magala is awesome and the whole arc of the Ace Commander and the defense of Dundorma is good stuff (also, the Apex Seregios fight is probably the only reason I forgive this shithole mechanic).

the thrust (X after throwing a rang) has great MV and can be used as a positioning tool

the boomerang spin is very important since it's by far the highest MV attack on the moveset when buffed with both buffs, ideally you use it right after you've thrown both rangs and the monster is about to turn to face you. you want to land all the hits if possible.

R+X idle is quite good as well for hitting high up heads, and can combo into the rang spin. this can also be comboed into after a thrust by pressing X

How do I charge blade properly?

I wanted to go back to CB now that Aerial GL is really losing it's fun. I feel squishier playing it than I did playing DB.

As someone who's also picking up CB again, there are some key differences.
You can't AED from a shield thrust, so getting red shield quickly like that isn't as easy. instead, pressing the same buttons after a shield thrust will (in certain styles) let you get yellow shield, which is obviously weaker. or you could go into axe and AED into a red shield like normal.

Adept style is my favorite, and most people agree it's the best. You get both the adept block and evade. From an adept block, you can charge your phials into a red shield immediately, or do an attack that lets you charge phials pretty well if you need some.
Takes a little getting used to, but i'm having fun with it.

Try to build a chair with a 3x4 feet block of styrofoam strapped to your right arm. It is light, but it will bump all over your body and other stuff and make using the tools a nuisance.

Also, I don't know what you're complaining about, Dual Blades has the fastest sheathe animation for the entire game, you have it easy. Try complaining when your sheathe animation is so slow that you have to equipe evade extender to move around.

The aerial sword attack is the one that charges your phials faster, but don't forget you have the shield thrust and roundslash on ground as well, so you don't just spam vaults.

The aerial AED has 90 MV + phials, compared to 75 MV + phials of the ground AED, so it is powerful and you want to use it often. But it has shorter range than the regular axe attack, so use the regular axe when the monster moves (it is also good and racks good mounting damage).

If the monster is pinned or tumbled, use your phials on the ground and finish with the aerial AED.

Aerial in general is not a style focused on precision attacks, so don't be surprised if you don't manage to get KOs constantly. But when you do, it will be awesome, so practice a lot (you can readjust the direction of aerial attacks to any side).

The Garuda Sedition is awfully good with Aerial, since you vault a lot and that recovers sharpness at a crazy rate.

Load Up is good for getting the phials, but I found Focus to be more useful, as one aerial sword attack usually gets you to yellow phial charge.

Elemental CBs don't work well with Aerial, since they require precision to do decent damage.


Overall, have fun dunking, slamming and jamming.

IIRC, shelling was nerf'd in gen
And GL pokes won't be hitting any major weakpoints (most heads other than rathian) because they only go forward and have pitiful upward reach, unless you're willing to spam upswing which is a slow move in itself

Reminder that the two strongest moves (adept reload and adept slam) have a whopping 40/46/48 and 50/57/60 motion values respectively (plus they only can come after an adept guard) while lance can spam the charge finisher and hit monsters with a 70 MV over and over

I expect weeb shit when I look for it, and aside from a few things here and there, the monhun series has been pretty conservative about it. After this long of an investment into a pretty mediocre experience I suppose it was a fitting end to this rather lackluster entry. I don't think G-rank would have changed my opinion on this game as it would've more than likely be bloated with gathering quests that nobody would've wanted to do anyways.

I usually make it a goal to at least complete all the story and hub quests, but this time around I'm just going to settle for what I accomplished.

Green sharpness weapons with high raw. Great thing is that these weapons tend to have super long green, negating any need for razor sharp whatsoever. Bludgeoner is essentially AuM for green sharpness weapons.

For Hammer you can build the iron line one and achieve greatness. HH I'd recommend standard Uragaan. Swaxe should rock crystalbeard. Use with silver sol/Hayabusa for best results.

For GS craft Judgement, and get you a nice mixed set with Crit draw and focus, with a free head slot to do as you please. For this I'd recommend Akantor R feet.

I think that covers the sets I've tinkered with using that charm. Enjoy. Big fan of the SwAxe set.
