I was finally able to play with The Donald a couple days ago and saw him do his business. He only killed 4 but what he does is pretty smart. On a NC and Amagi, he would bomb them once with Dive bomber, wait for repair then bomb again with dive bombers then after that he would finish them off with torpedo bombers. So a BB with 80k health can be finished in like less than a minute. Also I googled his username and found this. Pretty sick CV player, desu.

This just happened in my Shchors, and frankly, it's unacceptable. That is far too little fire damage for how many fires I started. It's not even 3500 damage per fire, and that's smaller than a solid non-citadel AP shell hit at that tier. It's completely unrealistic that battleships can instantly extinguish all their fire when I set four of them at a time, and furthermore why can they repair all of the damage? I don't think it's reasonable that battleship crews can reverse damage caused by fire because their ship is bigger.

Battleships are too hard to counter and we shouldn't be throwing out realism just to make them stronger.

Think about it, if the things had to get closer to effectively engage each other, like they generally do from tiers 1 to tier 7 basically, things probably wouldn't be quite as lethargic at tiers 9 and 10.

Personally, I'm for paring back main weapon ranges of t9-10 ships down to where things sit in t7-8. The jump in engagement ranges past t8 is the core aspect of what I believe perpetuates the painfully boring meta of end tiers.

That's not a magic cure all. People hang back at max range at all tiers, regardless of costs. And when the ranges are much longer, ships are much stealthier, and the damage you receive for slipping up is much higher, people are going to play far more passively. DBs aren't shit at all if you them properly.

Against DDs use them to try to incapacitate their rudder or engine before you torp them. You should be getting 2-3 hits/incaps per squad.

Against BBs use them for fires before you torp since flooding does more damage. Make sure you go for different parts of the ship with each squad, it is very easy to get 3-4 fires and 4-5 hits per squad. Always prioritize targets with DCP down.

If used correctly they can easily account for 1/3 - 1/2 of your damage.

What are cruisers even for in this game? Other than getting cut in half as soon as a BB sees them?

I only have a Cleaveland and an Aoba, but trying to play with them is just painful. I'd rather bring a DD or a BB since they seem to actually have a role.

Right now I'm seeing ~6 BBs per team in my games, with 300 BBs in queue whenever I look for a game, with double or single digits in the other ship classes. How are you supposed to play as a cruiser when you're going to be up against 6 BBs?

Because German BBs just released. British CLs will pull similar numbers when they come out. WG seems to be pushing cruisers into more of a support role, with everyone getting both defensive AA and hydroacoustic sonar at the same time soon. And the Brits will all come with smoke. But playing a cruiser right is a matter of patience and wariness. Don't expose your broadside unless you're absolutely sure no one's going to citpen you. The Aoba can hold her own against BBs with her amazing fire chance on HE so long as you forget your back turret exists. Cleveland has seen better days, but you can abuse its high arcs using islands for cover.

They pulled her from the game, refunds given to everyone that owned her. They say it's because she's the only ship to have caused more damage to friendlies than to enemies. Supposedly she'll come back at some point, but I don't see how that could work unless she's something like a ranked reward. She was incredibly overrated anyway. Literally a Kuma at tier 8, and with a detection range that made stealth torping just about impossible. Her paper armor meant she'd usually get one salvo off and die immediately. They tried giving her a very short smokescreen, but it barely helped.
