Scathach agrees, saying she’s more of a gatekeeper whose role is mowing down the many ‘troublesome things’ that tend to descend on the Land of Shadows. She says there’s several types of queens, and that Mebd is closer to Marie’s idea of it. Marie answers that Mebd seems to be always having fun and she likes her, but that Mebd’s “romance talk” is a bit too complicated for her.

The piglet calls out that your target is near. Mashu smells something rotten in the air, and you notice a small patch of ground with a purple dark mist around it.

That’s the usual Japanese term for those floor tiles that hurt you when you walk through them in videogames.

The weird thing is only about the size of a manhole, but the nearby vegetation has all withered. Scathach says that it is poisoned earth, and that a normal person’s lungs would wither just from breathing the miasma emanating from it.

Martha wonders why this appeared, but a bunch of monsters suddenly show up. Scathach says they aren’t the cause and were just lured there by the miasma, but you have to stop and fight them either way before you can continue investigating.

The piglet then starts going somewhere, but Scathach cuts him off.

Fou then starts acting up as well, and Mashu realizes the piglet was not trying to escape but rather trying to point to something, so you follow the two to what turns out to be another patch of poisoned earth in the jungle.

The boar finally notices you and attacks, so Scathach orders you all to fight it to protect the soil of the island.

In lieu of a better measure, you just mix the seed with Martha’s holy water, which at least should prevent the poison from spreading, and Marie says that it feels like you’re repaying the island’s future for what you’re taking from it now.

You decide to retreat since there’s nothing more to be done, but decide to keep an eye for anything like this in the future.
