Utawarerumono is quite possibly one of the most underrated, under discussed, under appreciated english translated visual novel. Some people will say no one talks about it because it's old, but we talk about FSN and other old games all the time. Some people will ignorantly say, it's because the novel is no good. Even though it ranked number 1 on 2ch's game of the year significantly above BALDR FORCE and Kusarihime, two major games that on their own deserve translations. Some people will say, it's no longer relevant, even as Utawarerumono 2 outsold every vn last last year and the accompanying anime was well received. In addition to Utawarerumono 2's squeal is less than 2 months away, a visual novel can't be anymore relevant.

Why is it so? Why is a confirmed kamige with great writing, amazing characters, deep lore, deep history, elements of scifi, fantasy, and religion being ignored? While Fate gets masturbated daily?

Explain to me right now, why you have not read Utawarerumono.

Well for one it being old does play a factor in people discussing it. It's also linear meaning there won't be a wide berth of discussion compared to Fate which has multiple routes making discussions about events in certain routes and character motivations in each route add to more discussion. Also Fate has multiple spinoff LNs and stuff that have been/are being translated while there isn't a really high chance of the sequels of Utawarerumono being done meaning there's no real way us EOPs can discuss it. I also heard the anime was shit and changed a lot of stuff.

Whenever I see discussion on all-ages localization of visual novels, I tend to see a certain group of people claiming it was the best way to bring it over, and because "we" aren't the core audience anymore, the ero content isn't necessary. What I'd like to know is, who is the core audience? What I see on most online discussion is fans upset because there is no ero content, so it seems to me they've really don't know what they're talking about.

What makes SP and others think that taking the ero out of eroge is a good idea? One would think being a business, they'd try to make decisions that would bring in more money, not less. I've never seen a post saying "This game has porn in it, I am not going to buy it".

Why not just release an all-ages and 18+ version at the same time?

Does anyone else feel like the extremely high level of emotional intelligence and insight into character provided by extensive reading of visual novels is starting to negatively influence their own human relationships?

Every time my friends tell me about their feelings my first instinct is grimace slightly, because so often their feelings are more simplistic and base than the most shallow of visual novel characters. I seriously had a friend rave about this girl he met, and his dialogue was word-for-word the stuff every dating simulator protagonist has ever said about anything. Needless to say, I called him stereotypical and he looked pretty hurt. After explaining how everything he's feeling has been felt a hundred times over, and is really as banal as the hunger one feels for breakfast, he seemed to cool down but I dunno if he's gotten over it. Another time I heard my parents arguing (I still live with them) pretty hotly, and it was obvious the subject they were so fervently disagreeing over was trivial and they were just letting emotions control their behaviour like children. I spoke up and explained how to resolve the problem (using some integrative complexity) and the fighting stopped, though they didn't seem to pleased with my intervention. Shit like this is really making it hard to maintain relationships. It's like I'm a hundred years older (and thus wiser) than everyone else, which makes all this feel like I'm attempting to maintain friendship with elementary schoolers far below my emotional intelligence. All my "real" friends are fast becoming those of similar intelligence to me, which frankly are just the characters written long-dead authors and eroge scenarists. I feel like this is a dangerous road to walk though, what do you think? Should I watch some hollywood movies and cut off books/vns to dumb myself down? Or continue to grow in maturity and intelligence, isolating myself from my boorish peers?

grisaia is objectively one of the best pieces of fiction in existence

I finished Fata. It was bretty good. Felt like I started to lose some interest around Michel's backstory but it picked itself right back up for the last bit of the game, which was an interesting twist, as, more often than not, I find myself disliking most visual novel endings more than their introductions and maincourse.

The title itself is a pretty stellar argument for the synthesis of artforms that the visual novel medium offers, as the soundtrack set the atmosphere in a way so acute that it brought most of my other reads to shame.

Overall, pretty impressive. Especially for a Doujin title (my experience with these has been very variable). It has problems, of course, but the whole was better than most of my reads in the past few years.

The only thing I wish for is more Morgana screentime but it seems like that's gonna be a thing for the fandisc.

Infodumps that go on for paragraphs and paragraphs at a time isn't a thing that any intelligent and practical writer does (and thank God Nasu doesn't do this shit in his latest works). I can't imagine how EOPs manage to sit through that schlock without wanting to tear their eyes out--as Takajun's dry and poorly written translation makes it even worse (and longer).

Aside from that, it has the shittiest heroine and the themes explored in it aren't nearly as interestingly covered as they are in UBW and HF. Fate is just a stepping stone for the other, far superior routes. A pretty shitty stepping stone, though.
