JOP chiming in here. I thought the game was surprisingly well written because it's not the kind of story where you can just callously write off the tear-jerking segments as sentimental schlock. All the characters are too real to not sympathize with them. It's kind of like Clannad because it will chew up your heart and spit it out, but the characters and the situations they're put into feel a lot more realistic than Clannad's dragonballs. It's hard to describe why that makes a game appealing, to be honest. If you don't like nakige, then you won't like WA2 because the one thing that it does better than other VNs is to make you feel a lot of emotions, many of which are admittedly uncomfortable. It's like asking why people watch scary movies, I guess. People don't like to be scared in real life, but they like to have their emotions stimulated in the context of a game or movie where they feel they have control.

In order for a game to be piratable, i.e. to be uploaded to a torrent site, there must first be someone who buys the game, then someone who cracks the game, then someone who uploads the game. The key point is "buying" and then "uploading". There are currently only a couple individuals in the whole world who are buying Japanese games and then uploading them. There used to be more but the police cracked down on them. This means that the entire flow of pirated eroge, pretty much, consistently comes from 1-2 individuals, although random people do sometimes buy and upload random games it's very inconsistent.

The result of this is a monopoly. Mikocon is a Chinese website and is one of the very very few consistent buyers/uploaders left. Since they have a monopoly, they don't release the games they buy immediately. They put the torrents behind a paywall - you have to pay them to access the torrents. After an indeterminate amount of time, they make the torrents public - this can be anywhere from 1 day to 3 months after release (I have waited for a game for three months before). The uploading scene is so sparse, a fairly good game can go 3 months without being uploaded/piratable at all except for Mikocon's paid torrent. If mikocon ever went down, the eroge scene would be hit very very hard.

Is today a "special" occasion? Not really. They upload chunks of VIP torrents often. However, it's a great occasion, because several games are now available to the public that weren't before.

I used to think the same thing, I even dropped VNs for over a year after trying out Hoshimemo and being bored to death. What it turned out to be, though, was just that translation limit what one can read and tend to be notably inferior to the Japanese original. After learning Japanese, I fell in love with VNs, when before I was not a big fan. So, it's too hasty to say you hate VNs. It's more likely that you dislike translations or that you simply are barred access to the games you'd really like by the language barrier.

In this case on the left is the object. On the right is the verb. が in the middle means the objects (left) are the subject of the verb (right).

Is also used with state-of-being on the right, specifying whether there is or is not something. Very simple examples: 問題がない - there is no problem. Or それに問題がある - there is a problem with that.

I suspect the problem is trying to break that sentence down too much? Perhaps looking at each part individually and not how they act on, and are acted upon, by other parts.

That or the post-positional thing coming from a pre-positional language. Once you're used to it for long enough you forget how much that could screw with your head when you weren't.

Honestly the best way to get a proper head for it is exposure to reading material and conversation. Grammar guide until you get a tentative idea of how it theoretically works, then get exposure to how it's actually used. The patterns will become clear organically over time.

Like everything else it's hardest at the start but only gets easier.
