A friend of mine showed me how to play Minecraft beta again and holy shit. What happened to modding? This is so much fucking fun. I don't even have to copy stuff into the jar anymore, MultiMC does it for me.

Is that why mods were good, because they edited the jars? Is it too hard to do what they want to make good mods now?

Except they happen worse with chickenchunks.
It caused problems for me with with mek cables, and PLENTY of people have had problems with ticking entities and stuff.

I don't get you.
Immibus is a good modder, he's never caused issues, and is pretty well regarded as talneted.

There is no functional difference between dimensional anchors and chickenchunks.
One has a reputation for causing bugs, the other does not.
Use the one that does not, regardless if the rumors are true, you aren't missing out on ANYTHING.
>>
>>152985175
Yes I agree with this anon, Chickenbones has been notorious for buggy code. There were several times where he released versions of mods that didn't even work without even testing them.

A lot of NEI's slowness and crashes were caused by the plugins though, to be fair to CB.

>>
>>152986948

>>
>>152986948
First, people have varied tastes.
It's better to design your own pack that you know in and out, and can debug and config to your liking.
Second, technic is fine, and I guess some of the third party ftb packs are, but any mainline ftb packs are bad - poorly configured, very buggy - I don't even know how they manage to fuck up what they do.

he's probably emailed the alphas individually, and put some kind of uuid in each to track leaks. covert's autistic that way.
>>
>>153000076
Nah. Covert uses a Google Drive that's available to people who have donated $10 or more to him. Instead of using Patreon, you should just use the form on the Railcraft site - it's one-time that way.
>>
>>152999780
IIRC for patreon supporters and railcraft addon developers. Close friends probably too.
>>
wtf. Okay I have an issue and I don't really even know where to start with this. Randomly the /help command fails to work for me, returning "An unknown error occurred while attempting to perform this command". There's nothing under Game Output in the launcher, and Google turns up next to nothing. Happens in single player, LAN play, public SMP, doesn't seem to matter.

I typically play modded, but this has happened with a few different modpacks, but maybe it's still related.

If you don't know what exactly is the probable cause, I'd still appreciate ideas for avenues of investigation.

>>
>>153001605
>again, never had any of that shit more with chickenchunks than in vanilla.
Then you must not have done anything relatively complex.
Chickchunks messes with cables, pipes.
Entities tick.
Plenty of people have had problems with it in the past.
>and I like how you're projecting the idea that I'm shitting on immibis, because I'm not. at no point did I ever say a damned thing about him. I'm just bored with the whole "hurr chikinvirus" meme.
Then why the fuck are you defending a mod made by someone who, in the past, has proven that they don't know what the hell they're doing, and is also part of the whole FtB cliche?
Immibus works. His stuff is optimized. His stuff doesn't break things.
Chickenbones has proven in the past that he doesn't bugtest, he doesn't pay attention to his releases.

There is no reason to trust someone who has previously proven that they can't be trusted.

>>

>>
>>153002928
The alpha builds so far only have about 20% of the mod in them yet as all the machines and signals stuff still needs to be done. There's not much lost. And you can still just compile from github if you want, you'll only miss out on the engraving bench.
>>
>the rendering for TCon's smeltery completely shits itself if you build your smeltery over chunk boundaries (possibly only if you also have Optifine, didn't bother checking)
Well that's good to know.
>>
>>153002928
But the mod is available for free!

As for the engraving bench, it's missing from the source build because Railcraft's Emblems system is probably the most secure thing in all of Minecraft, requiring hefty JAR signing verification to get an emblem to work at all.

Sadly you need Curse to play. The pack called "The Pioneers", which has similar mods to the FTB Infinity pack, but is for minecraft 1.8.9
https://www.curse.com/
Go to the Minecraft tab in Curse and click "browse all mod packs" then search for the pack I was talking about above.
Just click download and then play after that.

73.184.43.22
>>
>>153027560
LV wire loses 5% energy for every 16 blocks.

From ground level to build limit is 192 blocks. The LV wire is losing 60% of the energy from the windmills.

MV/HV wire have only half the distance loss. Never use LV for long distance wires.

Excellent, so you stopped using the one mod whose DRM was removed in 1.7 and the one mod where he never added DRM at all.

The "DRM circle of 1.4.7" generally involved RedPower 2, RailCraft and Forestry and IC2. RailCraft checked for the signatures of the other three being valid, Forestry checked *every single mod in the pack* (causing some serious drama when people who forked Logistics Pipes or made custom builds couldn't even start up packs), RedPower 2 allegedly checked Railcraft's signature in return (never verified it) and IC2, again allegedly, didn't care at all and never bothered to check anything in the first place.

Originally meant as a simulation for "real world" politics, /pol/andcraft was born thanks to an anonymous serverfag who took inspiration from a random image found on /pol/ of a well-built beach house, and literally 19 minutes later, started a thread with an idea to start a minecraft server. "/pol/craft" was one suggestion that came into conflict with wowfags, so we opted for "/pol/andcraft" instead. We have been running mostly continuously since 2012, with only a few gaps of service. As you have probably guessed, this is a /pol/ server.

The goal of /pol/andcraft is to establish politically based factions that will work as "governments". The server implements a custom resource pack to "increase immersion" into """politics""".
Put simply, we are for political roleplaying and generally having a good damn time.

It's a pretty rules light server and the only real thing that will get you banned is combat hacking, besides that we're pretty loose about what happens.

We allow cracked clients, download one if you're interested in playing.

Try disabling the Forge light pipeline in the config if you're experiencing lag during light updates.

Also, that is not the reason most modders went missing, unless I'm missing "most modders" on this list: https://www.reddit.com/r/feedthebeast/comments/4wsk0r/what_version_are_all_the_kids_modding_these_days/d6bnmjw

Oh, the whole smooth transition biome thing, where only similar biomes can generate adjacently? They did that so you don't get deserts next to snow fields anymore, and in general the terrain looks more natural. They did go way overboard on that though, fucking having to travel like 2k+ blocks to get into a different biome area sucks balls, It's a nice change and all, but they really should had set the variance distance much shorter than that, or at least let you tweak or adjust it like they used to let you with the biome size options. It does get boring seeing the same three biomes for thousands of blocks and if nothing else the pain in the ass it is to find that one biome or block you want is shitty. I think they changed it but melons and ocelots, what a pain, or those mods that rely on cactus, nope nope nope.

How come your weapons and tools sink below the screen in 1.10? You already have the recharge meter, what is this supposed to symbolize? It annoys me.

I also think the attack AOE should be from holding a key because it just leads to you pissing off a lot of pigmen or killing your animals.

If you're careful to not aggro the Clerics, the Knights will spawn indefinitely. The Clerics will not despawn as long as you NEVER EVER aggro them EVER.

If you attack a Knight within about 10 blocks of a Cleric, the Cleric will aggro and you're fucked.

>not playing a modpack that encourages you to automate everything

See these dense ores? Each one takes two minutes to mine by hand and drops 32 regular ores when mined. A starting quest gives you two quarries and about 60 RF/t worth of passive generation.

Also vanilla crafting tables are disabled, you can only use BC auto workbenches and other autocrafters, and most TiCon materials are also disabled so you can only make tools out of shit like Bloodwood and Oureclase.

Plus, coal is not common, comes in mostly low grades like peat and bituminous, and coal coke can be made from dirt in a simple nine step process that takes 20 minutes to complete.

Suddenly I felt like not being stupid anymore and checked Tinker's Defense code.
https://github.com/Lance5057/Tinkers-Defense/blob/master/src/main/java/lance5057/tDefense/armor/modifiers/ArmorMods.java
Other than the magic mod-related ones, the modifiers for armor are:
>head only:
Rebreather: lets you breathe underwater as long as you have air canisters from the mod
Nightvision Goggles: applies a night vision potion
Ghast tear: anti-blindness
>legs only:
Sticky piston: step assist, same as the boots of the traveler and so on
Piston: jump boost
Redstone block: speed boost
>feet only:
Glowing crystal: generates glowstone stuff after 10 steps or so
Fiery crystal: lets you walk over lava
Frosty crystal: lets you walk over water
Flippers: makes you faster underwater
>any:
Iron armor plate: applies the protection enchantment (will also replace part of your armor if you use Iguana's Tinker Tweaks, oops)
Magma cream: applies the fire protection enchantment
Wool: applies the blast protection enchantment
Iron rivets: applies the projectile protection enchantment
Hermes feathers: reduces fall damage I guess
Red heart canister: health boost
>>
>>153141249
And for other things:
https://github.com/Lance5057/Tinkers-Defense/blob/master/src/main/java/lance5057/tDefense/core/tools/modifiers/TDefense/TDMods.java
>all:
SoulStone (found in dungeons): useless, spams the chat I think
>weapons:
Iron block: probably applies the daze effect from M&B's maces
Textbook: extra XP on kills
>shears:
Rainbow gem: sheared sheep drop randomly-colored wool
Lapis: applies the fortune enchantment for shears
>shields:
Crests: they do different things, check the TD thread on the MCF for better details. You need to put them together with a dye on your shield.
>>

Just found out that it might be a good idea to avoid using the poison modifier, it completely kills your forward momentum when you jump and it doesn't work if you're too close to a wall. (???)
The heavy armor looks great even without customizing it in the finishing anvil, too. I used iron and bronze parts in this one. It looks like the only thing that materials affect is the total durability, so feel free to make a slime armor with 99999 durability or to go full thaumium+paper for all the modifiers.

More science. Thirsty tanks can pick up liquid death, but *only* if they're adjacent to the lowest possible depth of liquid. need to pick some up? let it spill out and place the tank at the edge of the puddle once it's settled out.

Sure. as long as there's some essentia coming in from the upper buffer on the left, the valve on the right closes, and no essentia is drained from below. the output is at the top right. I'll be using these to process crystalized essentia in preference to other sources.

I haven't tested all of them, but it's possible that you might need more than one wool or rivets. The iron armor plate (the one from Tinker's Defense, which costs 4 ingots) seemed to work well enough by showing up in the tool forge but I didn't apply it since Iguana's Tweaks tried to swap it out for something else on my armor.

It reminds me of Guts armor when he was with the band of the hawks, you can have a big sword with TD cant you? you should make it.
>>
>>153217220
The only thing that determines armor stats is which armor itself you make. Robes offer either no protection or leather tier (haven't made them yet), chainmail offers iron tier, and plate armor offers diamond tier. The cosmetic options seem pretty neat even on a default armor (>>153146090 is just iron/bronze parts with no custom changes) and with enough paper/thaumium you might be able to get a decent set of enchantments, although each one takes an entire slot (so you'll only be able to get Protection III on a normal piece of armor without extra modifiers).
>>
>>153218231
Seems like something reasonable the way the armors protection level are, so I dont have to worry about the materials, but the looks of it.
Thanks famalam, now Im going to make some aesthethic armors for me and even for npcs in the future so they can protect my builds.

Anyone remember the Hunger Games servers back in 2012 with like... 150 players, true survival, a closing border, and kits? I'm trying to remake that as well as creating a really cool Survival RPG server. It'll be a mix of RPG and survival with raids, guilds, factions (like horde and alliance in WoW), dungeons, world bosses, and a ton of other stuff. Players wont be required to participate in RPG stuff and can venture off with their friends to build whatever they want like regular survival. They do have the option to do the RPG content though. Also, a Town of Salem mini-game server in the future.

Anyone interested in this type of stuff? I've already finished the Hunger Games stuff, currently working on the Survival RPG server and then the Town of Salem server last.

For some reason, my advanced alchemical furnace keeps losing it's connection to my energized node. Even when I reset the vis relays, it refuses to smelt anything. I have to break it and reform it for it to do anything.

Now that I think about it, this only started happening since after I put up a Thaumostatic Spire. The spire draws aer vis, but my energized node generates about 20 centivis for all 6 primal aspects so it should have more than enough to cover both the spire and furnace.

Man, I didn't get the insane loading times with the little maid mod - I think that only happens with the custom models enabling addon - but fuck the maids are retarded. They can't pathfind, they die to any and all environmental hazards, sometimes they just get stuck in a wall and despawn.
Also, can't get the soundpack to work. :\

Weird design choices, too. I'm not too keen on using up sugar to change their orders. There's a "maid whistle" addon but it doesn't fully fix the problem.

On the other hand, you can't get golems to feed you, heal you, cook, brew potions, or torch up the area, so I guess there are some domestic uses for maids. Kind of appropriate. Hey, come to think of it, why can't they milk cows? I want a milkmaid!

FTB started off as a modpack group. Well and good until they eventually get more famous than the modders who's content they leech off of. Basically since they were bought by Curse (see: Slowpoke) they've just become another root on the parasitic tree of zionism. Slowpoke then 'hired' the most incompetent shit-for-brains ever to maintain Forge, which is also pretty much owned by Curse now as all the staff have gradually been replaced by Curse mooks. Modding became so much about milking the cash cow that it's now a shriveled husk because a) no fresh talent has entered to replace modders who quit because they were sick of all the bullshit and b) Forge's functionality has suffered from poor management, despite HUNDREDS of pull requests to fix bugs Lexmanos can't.

This isn't even its final form. The baked shit only turns into charcoal here - I'll need another twenty-four coke ovens to do the two final passes that turn it into coal coke.

If this modpack had EnderIO or even Thermal Dynamics, I'd just lay two neat rows of ducts and tick "Round-robin" on the extraction end of the duct. But it doesn't, so I have to deal with this pipe bullshit.

And, well, maybe you have some ideas. The baked shit comes out of three ovens at the bottom, goes into a diamond pipe for a 5-way split, then each of those goes to another diamond pipe for another 5-way split. I only need a 22-way split, so three of those have one exit routed back to the entrance of the first diamond pipe. I'm wondering if there's an easier way to do the split, or at least cut down on pipes.

This is actually a hard post to answer, especially as I know answering it is absolutely meaningless and will change nothing:

- I do not defend LexManos. I defend his technical achievements, which are documented and do exist. He has admitted in public that he wants to smack me across the screen and implied that I have the worst social issues out of the entire modding community, so I don't really have any personal interest in defending him - I just try to correct misinformation when I see it.
- I don't keep insisting I quit. I've given up on that in late 2015, when I realized it doesn't work - I did say that one more time later, when I was giving up Charset, but that was more an emotional outburst due to some related internal modder drama.
- To leave, you have to have somewhere else to go; something to look forward to.

I am aware of that there is a group of people in modded Minecraft who care about my opinion. However, I am also aware that, in the grand scheme of things, it's really quite meaningless outside of my own little niche I carved out over the years.

Not to say that I don't love my own little niche - I do prefer a small, dedicated fanbase over a larger one which dumps you the moment your mod stops fitting an arbitrary criteria. And I am working, or at least planning out, something to please said fanbase. Because that, unlike dealing with all the community politics and other nonsense, is actually fun - giving joy to people who actually care about your work, as well as of course yourself.

The problem is, he didn't get some people together to make a competing standard, he just took his ball, went home, and insisted that ModLoader, something maintained by a single dude, was all that anyone ever needed. And then he abandoned THAT, concluding that if any mods conflict with each other, then that's how it's meant to be.

How is it any different that ModLoader was maintained by one guy and Forge having one guy who has to review and accept PRs?

There was modder cooperation at the time though. Like TMI would add code to support Rei's Minimap and all. That worked pretty well. You don't see that level of modder cooperation anymore. They're all too busy monitoring their patreon.

Version 4.84 change log,
>Updated BTW to version 1.5.2 of Minecraft.
>Added an internal add-on handling system that effectively replaces Modloader within BTW. This was done for a number of reasons, but mainly so that the code for SSP & SMP would be more uniform since ModLoader does not have a server version. This made the BTW code-base more annoying to maintain, and rather difficult for add-on authors to have their mods function in multiplayer. Note that BTW will no longer function with ModLoader installed, and thus is now likely incompatible with all mods that make use of it.

On top of that ModLoader was already on the way out and was discontinued as of 1.6.2. I'm not sure what you're trying to prove.

That's what some people claim, but from what I could gather, it was more that they would load ModLoader mods as Forge mods when it first went standalone, and then they took that functionality out once enough people made the switch. Though, I will agree that it was totally a dickish power move.

I dont know why would you want a hallway that leads nowhere?

Unrelated to all of the modders discussion, I made a TD armor based on the Guts one.

It's not stealing, in the same vein WINE or Samba aren't stolen from Microsoft or Linux isn't stolen from SCO.

What Forge did is simply the good old "embrace (become a rather notable API based on ModLoader, later implementing compatibility with it via its own loader), extend (add improved SMP hooks and many other niceties), extingush (drop ModLoader compatibility as soon as Risugami leaves)". Whether they were aware of it is another matter.

>>153304730
They dropped ModLoader support in 1.7 and the last ModLoader version came out for 1.6.2 (not 1.6.4). Quite a lot of Japanese modders were still using ModLoader at the time, however.

>>153302832
>You don't see that level of modder cooperation anymore.
Actually, modders do cooperate. The reason the 1.2.5-1.4.7 era was fairly tight-knit in comparison was because every major modder of the time was on PahiCraft/ForgeCraft - but that was always a "friends' server", and so when new modders came along that accidental unity was gone.

>>153302761
>why won't he just fuck off
for what reason
>>
>>153335296
Of course, I'm not trying to say that ForgeCraft was the only way modders could work together - I'm just saying that, if we take the assumption modders work for personal enjoyment (and if you look at Vazkii's modder Patreon charts, let's face it, most of them do), playing with other modders together was a great incentive to make your mod work with their mods nicely. This is still true to an extent, as some people have their own servers (Reika) or play on a server close to their fanbase (GregoriousT).

Chisel, Carpenter's Blocks and microblocks are good for a lot of the aesthetic side of a build.
Immersive Engineering (steampunk/retro-futuristic) has big multiblock machines, fancy wires, silos, conveyors and hueg fluid pipes
Buildcraft has the best tuuuuuubes for moving things around. Logistics Pipes if you want to be a tube god
Railcraft for a massive improvment and addition to vanilla rail mechanics, as well as some multiblock machines such as steam boilers, and a bunch of aesthetic blocks
Tinker's Construct for large smelteries, molten metals and "redundant vanilla mechanics"
Some form of frame mod or pistronics if you want large moving structures. Tinker's Mechworks is also pretty good
Mekanism is a bit higher up the tech spectrum, but needs a bit of space to setup some of the processing lines
EnderIO for based conduits and conduit facades

>>153358079
Most mods should be compatible with each other - it's usually only things like odd code interactions, or biome/enchant ID conflicts that will cause problems
The only major issue you might have is duplicate ores, so it'd be worth checking the configs and only having one mod generate tin and copper for example, instead of 3-4 mods all adding their own copper ore/ingots/etc. The ore dictionary is a thing, so they'll all be cross compatible with each other, but it clutters up world gen like the 9 copper types on hobo
Generally, I get Thermal Foundation to do my standard ore gen, and disable ores from the other mods, unless it's something unique/required for that mod, like osmium in mekanism or aluminium in TCon
Pro tip: disable Railcraft poor ores. Those things are cancer

You'd be mistaken for thinking that means performance would be good, because 1.10 runs worse than Infinity on my system. Could've been BetterFPS but it didn't interfere that badly with Infinity.

The new combat system is one step forward three steps back; combat is now a carefully timed chore against floaty mobs all the while feeling like you are playing with a quarter second of latency. No actually its just three steps back there wasn't anything improved.

Shields are neat.

Might not want to melt the old one down. IIRC the regular alchemy furnace has a 50 essentia limit, but I'm not sure if the TB one is the same. Anything with more than 50 simply can't melt in the regular one, so you need the advanced furnace.

Which is why I'm bummed that there's no advanced furnace in TC5.

Hey, /mcg/. I recently made a 1.10.2 pack with a friend, and one of the mods we have is Tinkers' Construct. Now, we also have Roguelike Dungeons, so we gathered a lot of anvils/hoppers/iron bars to recycle and refurbish into iron for a massive Minecart system we're planning on making.

The problem is, though, that the smeltery doesn't reach hot enough levels to melt them down. Their progress bars stay gray and cool (Iron ore works, however). We don't have Blazing Pyrotheum or anything added to help, so are we doing something wrong, or do we need a Tinkers Construct expansion?

Thanks!
Pic unrelated.

>Is that why mods were good, because they edited the jars? Is it too hard to do what they want to make good mods now?
No. In the sense of editing the jar or not, modding has only improved. It's just that people started to expect continuous improvement and we hit a bit of a wall. A lot of modders just don't have it in them to keep their mod updated with each minecraft version anymore. Modpacks are the new norm so if a big mod doesn't update, other mods might not update either and people try to stay on an older version of Minecraft. This is seen with redpower and more recently with CoFH mods.

Not at all. I'm mostly working on Fabric because it made modding feel fun for me again, without having to deal with modpack balance expectations, insane community politics and the maintainer of the one API you're forced to use constantly calling you a twat and openly admitting disliking any input from me at all. My intention is not to save Minecraft modding, my intention is simply to make that total conversion modpack I always wanted to make. Generally, the "Fabric" "team" consists of modders who just want to mod in peace because they enjoy modding Minecraft and want to actually have fun contributing to a common goal.

Also, I intentionally try to keep the project quiet, for reasons stated above.

So I want to make a decorative mine in this ravine, the only problem is that its right in front of a lake and I want to make it realistical as water would pretty much flood in the mine, I want to make an acueduct that goes from the lake connection with the ravine and throw the water on a hole. My question is, how realistic would it be to make said action.

i'll have to try that, then.
the only electric furnace i could get so far is the one from that calculator mod...
it's output is fucked, so it's pretty much useless for now

Try the Brick Furnace from Magneticraft with a Firebox next to it. It's not an electric furnace, but it stores energy as heat so you don't waste any fuel, and it's pretty quick too.

they really keep energy now? the last time i tried they'd lose heat pretty fast

anyway, thanks for the tip, i have tons of salt and clay already so it should all be good

someone make a new ded
don't want to lose more posters

I never noticed it losing any heat. Maybe it does in cold biomes. Regardless, it's about as fast as ten regular furnaces and I'm pretty sure you get more out of the fuel too.

that'll solve a few issues then...
oh yeah, got an idea of where to pour the creosote?
it's supposedly usable as fuel, but i'm having trouble finding generators that take liquids

Stash it in a railcraft tank. You'll need 150 buckets per wheel if you want to go for waterwheels. Or you can sell it, either straight or as rail tracks.

Er, make that 50 per wheel, I was thinking 150 per dynamo.

If you want to burn it, I think you have to go for RC boilers.

oh right, good idea

should be enough for most things, might need a little more for the really expensive rituals.
