There's like 2-3 people still playing on the shitty German one, I think. The problem is non-/sbg/ owned servers are owned by underage millennial normies, so the chances of not having shitty admins is extremely low. /sbg/-owned servers aren't much better, though. You trade one set of problems for another.
>>
>>152954656
It breaks how some blocks would slow you, slide around, clouds giving you super jumping, etc. I don't know if it seriously breaks anything beyond that but I enjoy that wackiness enough to have disabled the sbg race mod for now.

If you're using the older versions that are in Zinc's modpack then I think it's fine though.
>>
>>152955127
Thanks for that, I suppose I'll make a Novakid or something then. Here's hoping there might be some compatibility patch for it later.

ACT guy here. 33 mimics done, all small variants. It was a lot of copy pasting, but man was it tedious.

All 33 look exactly like their chest counterpart, and take up the same space. While I don't condone griefing, these things are designed SPECIFICALLY for griefing. I mean, they're mimics; the gods are dicks for making them in whatever game they exist in, after all. They can be captured with capture pods, and you don't need to weaken them to capture them.

I didn't include chests that are not in the game files. There are some other chests, like Rubium Tech Chest, that are not available without modding. I'll get to the large chests including the Ancient ones later.

I am not making a hat for each mimic. Not now, anyway. That's a lot of fucking hats.
>>
>>152976631
Will they randomly spawn in planets?
>>
>>152974920
I'm going for the Cheever now. Once I get that, I'll purge the birds and plants.
>>
>>152976521
They would initially be slaves, but they'd be allowed to be plebs and, in some very exceptional cases, patricians.
>>
>>152976728
Not yet, no. The intention is to steal someone's small chest and place a mimic of the same design in its place. They spawn as objects similar to the eggs you buy at Terramart, but they don't make sounds and hatch naturally after four real life DAYS.

I haven't made anything spawn naturally. I might at some point if I have too many monsters. How hard could it be?

>>152976927
>The intention is to steal someone's small chest and place a mimic of the same design in its place.
Honestly, I think a better plan would be to fill a room with them and make it look like a treasure room that's easy to break in to. That way, anyone who opens one actually deserves it.
>>
>>152977126
I want them to NOT hatch naturally though. They're supposed to be "opened" to come to life, but Chucklefish' bad coding won't let me do that. I set it to 4 days since nobody is going to be playing for 4 straight days without at least looking at their chests one time, anyway.

>>152977206
I could try to learn to do Microdungeons, and I can make those without problem, but making them spawn will be a pain. If I did though, it'd be through an addon to the mod, not directly in it. I don't want to mess up the world gen and players' universes any more than Chucklefish has done.
>>
>>152977464
See how the gardenbot mod does it for the robots. They are at first placeable objects until you interact with them, then the object is destroyed and an entity spawns on it's place.

Can't you just make a helmet then select a chest's image as the base? I mean, I can make spears that look like guns by just finding the gun file. Making a mimic hat is probably just a line of code.

Not that I'm asking you to do that, I'm just pointing out that you probably don't have to since it's largely menial and not something anyone would find conceptually challenging.

Anyone happen to know if it's possible to enable the /admin mode fullbright without going into the /admin mode?

>>
>>152979317
Well, the only mod I saw for fullbright was some hacky "Let's amplify how much lights pierce walls" thing instead of disabling the entirety of the lighting rendering subsystem.
>>

>>
>>152979547
It's probably impossible to outright disable the light renderer with mods.

But you could mimic the effect by disabling all light sources (light furniture, effects, etc) and tweaking ambient light to equal fullbright. That should give a bit of performance boost and let you keep the wallhack if so desired.

ACT guy again. On the topic of flesh colonies on the moon, it drove me nuts that there wasn't some kind of teleporter for flesh furniture. I couldn't think of a reasonable design that was purely flesh, so I just made it take over a regular teleporter. Gonna add a few more fleshy bits and alter some other things, but this is an idea of what I will be adding to the mod later. I can't go without a flesh teleporter on a flesh colony anymore.

Speaking if slaves I happen to create my own hyper aggressive aliens for Starbound. Everything is all buddy buddy together, there's no aliens that have zero "good" ones, they're all bad. One of which is the Krullvar. Large bipedal lizard brutes that dwell in the Tabora veil, a big chunk of unexplored and uninhabited part of space. Anything that ventures in never comes back.
Krullvites are notorious for being slavers ocasionally sending out raiding parties to abduct entire colonies. The slaving party usually consists of a Krullvite gunship, 4 troop carriers and one, large slave containment shuttle.
Most colonies never resist and local guards are mercilessly slaughtered by their brutal weaponry. All colonists are taken, few undesirables and fewer killed by a Krullvar that can't control his temper, Undesirables are also carved and served by the Butchers and leftovers are strung up into gore bags to mark that this settlement's been raided.

Their prominant tool to make colonists behave is a constricting, explosive collar. They grab you by the throat, slap the collar on your neck and it slowly tightens to dig into your flesh and strangle unless you drop to the ground in either a sitting or kneeling position.

Avian, Floran, Hylotl and Glitch settlements are easy marks. Apex however can put up a decent fight and radio for help because of their advanced technology. They are willing to sell slaves at the borders of the Tabora veil but try to haggle with them, or easily upset them they'll just kill you and take your money and plunder your ship.
>>
>>152984697
this fits no where in the theme of Starbound
You may as well just make the Florans all black and red and make them listen to heavy metal and you'd accomplish the same thing
>>
>>152985160
>theme
Not edgelord mcshitty ideas up there, but starbound doesn't have a fucking theme at this point. It's some mishmash of 'kiddie game where nothing bad happens except one BIG thing but that's easy to solve' and the few remnants of 'the galaxy is a shitty place with shitty people and all the races are royal assholes except the Novakid who don't exist' that somehow got skipped over.
>>
>>152985327
Within that broad continuum of unfinished ideas, that race fits nowhere.
>>
>>152985327
He's right though.
It just doesn't fit, man.
>>
>>152984697
A malicious hellbent mary sue is still a mary sue.

>>152985160
I don't really think his idea fits either, but that's fundamentally different from what florans do. Florans are cool with genocide because they just don't value non-plant life in the same way that we don't really feel morally obligated to respect the lives of flowers.

>>152985327
The game has an anthropological theme to it; making a race that's virtually impossible to interact with or directly study kinda deviates from the admittedly obnoxious "look kids! Examining culture is FUN!" aspect of the game.

I don't see how the post above is considered "edgy" and doesn't fit the so called theme. So far there's no real antagonistic force, just some shitty hentai tentacle monster that kills billions of people and destroy's planets for no reason. There needs to be certain races that are unfriendly, uncooporative and only stick for thenselves and kill any outsiders. Floran got retconned into the ground and there was the protectorite safe space police where everything was involved so now what?
>>152985604
Please elaborate on how the race wouldn't fit. A small corner of the massive galaxy with a slaving empire species is too far fetched?
>>152985924
They may be mary sue to NPC's but not the player. In Terraria you fight a whole slew of "mary sue" monsters and have no problem kicking the shit out of them.

But the main issue is that they could have left everything simple and easy to make, but left the tools for the players to add tons of stuff.
They don't need to add animations, just code in the frames. They don't need to add complex monster AI, just make the basics so modders can add more from your base.

But there's no base or anything thay makes sense. Only hats and pain.

Starbound tries to do combat well with altAbilities (They even have it as a selling point)
But it doesn't
Terraria combat is:
>In grass areas enemies are always weak except for really early game
>Every location has random spawns
>You move fast
>The bosses move fast (Except for Golem but who cares)
>Guns use ammo
>Magic weapons are cool as fuck and can be really fun and deadly (See: Last Prism)
>Melee weapons aren't melee but are really interesting
Starbound combat is:
>All enemies are a nuisance
>Dungeons have set spawns, you can know without error where every enemy is
>Molasses
>Guns use mana
>Magic weapons are the same 3 spells over and over
>Melee weapons aren't interesting at all

Gonna be honest, I don't play Starbound for the combat. I play it because I like the art style and the different races have their own cute quirks that I find endearing. I enjoy building places and decorating rooms with the assets the game has available, and there's a lot of neat mods that add to the experience.

Having said that, I felt like the world had a lot more character to it pre-1.0, and I don't quite understand why the lore had to be gutted to such an extent. I feel like the villages are a lot more lifeless now that villagers mostly only utter bland greetings instead of comments relating to the race of the PC, which revealed details about the relationship between the two races while also revealing a little about the villager's race (avians, for example, were huge hipsters who liked to brag about, like, totally being part floran, man).

And despite the main storyline centering around humanity, it feels like humanity has been wiped from the game, with the exception of the prison camps and featureless tent colonies.

Having said ALL of that, I still enjoy playing the game. It's just a fun sandbox and I still run across weird combinations of biomes that entertain me, like that time I found a shadow planet with a prism biome, like the planet was dueling light and shadow, like fucking metroid prime 2. I paid dirt cheap when it was still being kickstarted, and I've played it off and on since, so whatever they've done, I've gotten my 5 bucks worth. Modders will fix the rest in time.

Sucks for the rest of you though. You have my sympathies.

The only way for me to possibly consider Starbound playable is if they add wave based events, Wings(Jetpacks, rocketboots, helicopter pack) Accessories, Classes and class weapons, ammo, more better bosses, Real weapons and not that precedural generated garbage, some actual fucking Sci-fi enemies, Biome that spreads itself from planet to planet via asteroid impacts and has special biome themed enemies. But what I just listed is a pipedream.
>>
>>153019768
Friendo, when I got Starbound it was 100% sandbox building, and made little to no pretense about it. I don't even remember them talking about a storyline until years later.

I've SEEN Starbound without content. It has content now. It may mostly be crappy, and it's less now than it was pre-1.0 by virtue of a lore holocaust, but there's content.

>>153020157
I don't know where you ever got the impression that Starbound was going to be/should be anything like what you're describing. Who tried to sell you on starbound's lightning-paced combat and edge-of-the-seat thrills?

Who told you it was anything but a building block simulator?

I mean, look, mate, you're coming to a lemonade stand and complaining they won't sell you whiskey. It's absurd.

That's funny considering this game sold itself as TERRARIA. IN. SPACE. So yes it is fair to expect MOST of the expected similar features. When I first funded this I didn't ask for this bullshit space cadet shit and shoehorned in story. They can't even bother adding craftable ammo? Arrows, Crossbow bolts, Plasma cartridges, bullet casings, Energy cells, Rockets, that's too much for them to add in?

It was literally advertised as Terraria in Space you fucking idiot. I was expecting things to be similar like a corrupting and spreading biomes, loot gathering and monster slaying and fucking accessories and reforging. That Agaran menace could have been Starbounds corruption but tumblrinas were too triggered at the thought bad mushrooms can infect their safe spaces.

>I'm mad this game isn't identical to this other game
Look Tiy's pretty retarded, but making a dupe of another game is a good way to become inferior. Your game is never going to be more like what it's copying than the original copy; at best it'll have a nice twist but be completely unmemorable unless it catches newfags who haven't played the source material. If anything you want to make it more difficult to compare to its peers, not less.
>>
>>153021276
The thing about Terraria's ammo system is that it let you pick and choose different effects.
If it were infinite then obviously you'd always use the 'best' effect because bigger numbers.

So in their case it made sense to have limits especially for the harder to make but oh so worth it ammo.

I appreciate the encouragement but the colours don't appear to accept a replacement.

The gun I link is the one I'm changing. I used paint to get the RGB of the lightest part of the gun (64, 64, 64) and running it through an RGB to Hex converted resulted in #404040.

Sadly, the command:
> "directives":"?replace;404040=DAC782
spawns the item, but unchanged... I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Pic related is the gun. The lightest part of it should be #808080 but replacing that instead is also doing nothing

I'm retarded, I can tell. Do you know what I'm doing wrong?

Alright. The new addition to the command is as follows:

Game is literally unplayable without this. How do the devs let that shit go live? How fucking hard is it for them to go in and change two variables (x & y coord) so the fucking window isn't directly over your character?

At the same time, who's the fucking nigger that assembled this "QoL" list? Half of these things are hacks to get around game difficulty or bypass game progression and it's triggering my autismo.
>Food stack
>Self explanatory. I do not know what goes on inside chuckledicks tiny, tiny brains, but this is a retarded game design decision
You're the pea-brain here, food ages & spoils. How are they going to stack food if they all have different ages? It's a part of the game, and while it's not implemented in the most interesting of ways, it still adds to the gameplay and serves to give the player something to do between missions/explorations. The timers on hunger and food are pretty fucking generous, my inventory usually fills before I run out of food. Especially in the early parts of the game before you set up a farm, having food spoil prevents players from farming mobs for their meat for 3 hours straight so they can't stockpile 1000x meats and ignore the entire hunger mechanic for the rest of the game. If you really don't like the hunger mechanic, why not simply have a mod that removes hunger so you don't have to stack food in the first place?

QoL fixes are only things that do not impact gameplay or whose impact would be expected by reasonable person to be unintentional. If it's obvious that the game was designed to be that way, it shouldn't be on the list. Imo throwing together a list like this (that includes non-QoL mods in it) harms the game because it encourages noobs to play the way some Anon prefers to play instead of trying the game themselves as the devs intended.
>>
>>153034581
Stop sucking off this shitty game's design.
>>
>>153034669
He's right though.
That food isn't stackable is still absolutely dumb and I can't imagine myself playing without a disabler for this, but it is NO QoL mod in that regard.

It's a recommended mod! One that I would deem an essential mod! But it's honestly false to call it QoL, as it directly changes the way the game is played.
>>
>>153034581 (cont.)
>-New & Outpost Merchants pay full price for your items
Why is this even necessary? The fricken Colony deeds are so cheap to begin with that they're almost broken. Find a large pre-existing colony and spam your poster (deed) on the wall and suddenly you'll have up to 30 cash cows throwing gold at you. In my experience it's timed fairly well, it takes me about 30-45 min to finish running around a new planet or to explore a dungeon or go on a mission & colonists drop gold every like 15-30 minutes? You don't even have to do anything special to keep getting the income, just show up periodically.

Again these gameplay mechanics aren't the greatest but they stand on their own and serve as a solid start should Chucklefish decide not to be sell-outs like most other indie devs. I do think it would be better if there were some way of increasing your sell ratio, i.e. if you could sell items for up to or even more than 100% of their worth. E.g. it would be cool if colony size influenced sell ratio, say each colonist in a contiguous colony adds 5% of item worth to your sell value. But as it stands, this mod is straight up cheating. Why not go further and make your items sell for 150%, 200%, 500% value? There's no rationale for using this mod aside from you want gold faster.

I'm pretty sure this refers to the character sliding off of blocks, and I could see how one might consider this a QoL fix, but I believe it was intentional in order to make cliffs more dangerous and add platformer elements to the game. Right now, if you're going down a steep slope that's e.g. 2 blocks down for every 1 across, it's easy to walk off the edge a little and then have your character clip the top of blocks as they fall and slide off sideways to continue falling vertically down the entire slope, resulting in death. While frustrating, rope fixes this.

>Gardenbot2 - MP Friendly
>Wanna stop tortuing yourself by watering every fucking inch of your garden and running around to collect crops like a jew collecting coins in Uncle Scrooge's pool ?
Did they remove sprinklers or something? And how hard is it to press E while hovering a crop, or to click on the seed then click on the plot? Half the plants don't even need to be replanted! It seems like Anon just hates gardening-- plots will stay tilled until you un-till them, so for the bot to do the tilling for you makes it seem like Anon has never planted a farm and wants to get crops without doing any work.

The combination of gardenbot, the merchant gold increase, and food stacking together is frankly disgusting. That's like half the fucking game you're getting rid of because you're too much of a lazy shit to go through the game's progression. Why not just cheat? Seriously, with all three of those mods you're making it so all you do is explore and shoot shit.

If you want to talk shitty game design, I feel the combat is just as weak as any of the elements you're removing-- it's way too easy to cheese the AI with ranged attacks, especially if you pan the camera over and using homing rockets. They literally can't even get to you because of the knockback, and even if they do make it to you, it's not hard to fight from within a bunker (enclosure w/ 1-2 tile opening).

If we're being perfectly honest, the entirety of Starbound is mediocre gameplay. Imo there's no one mechanic that makes the game fun, but rather the variety of game mechanics and the beautiful art & story universe combine to create an interesting and fun game. Pruning entire game mechanics willy-nilly is a surefire way to make the game monotonous and get bored 2 hours in.

You're like those faggots who "balance" their Minecraft mods. Busywork isn't good design, it isn't challenging, and it isn't fun. It's just padding to make the game last longer. Also, you're giving this game way too much credit in the universe, story, and "interesting and fun" department.
>>
>>153036956
It's an obvious Chuckledrone.

>Every sane person plays on casual or hardcore
I've been playing survival with the food stack mod, and the one that makes the teleportation function like in casual.

Until we get some device that lets us recall without placing a permanent structure, I don't think I can deal with not having an easy way back to the ship.

On an unrelated note, what food should I be focusing on early-game, since I just got this? I've been making popcorn and rice, since rice is an okay-ish chunk and popcorn lets me top off whenever.

>>153036956
Tedium in moderation is fun.

It's the main reason I play survival with mods to lessen the load. Having to maintain a farm/food supply, while building and spelunking works nicely when you can't just have everything handed to you.

The Gardenbots are definitely far and above QoL though, that's automation for a normal game mechanic. But to each their own. Here's hoping we can get a mod that lets us assign NPCs to work farms instead of robots

Just how you can jump 0.3 seconds after you've fallen from a cliff?

No. You can't possibly defend this shit. It's lazy and it's broken. They could have made platforming more interesting if they played a single platformer game in their lives.
Even NES games have better platforming.

Don't just try to add random shit to clutter it. Keep things practical and the ship will downright build itself.

Wow, brilliant statement there captain obvious. Could you strawman any harder? How about you try putting forth a real argument next time?

I'm saying these parts of the game serve as a good break between missions. In my experience, they aren't tedious because I spend far less time doing them than I do on anything else. It literally takes like 4 minutes to beam to a planet, pick up your crops, stuff your face, and collect taxes, pic related. What the fuck are you losers doing that these things feel tedious to you? I found a floran colony, threw up my MONEY POSTERS (deeds) in the existing houses, planted some crops outside at the edge of town, and plopped down a flag. All I have to do is teleport to my flag from anywhere in the galaxy and run through to collect my booty when it's ready. I never even water my crops. How the fuck is that tedious?

He's still right about the name though. If mods change an entire aspect of the game, they are not QoL mods. Maybe you guys just want to call it the /sbg/ recommendations or something instead of QoL.
>>
>>153039314
QoL would be:

* Foodstack
* EPP Light
* 1H Torch
* Container UI
* General UI
* Controls

The Gardenbots, Merchant/Outpost, and *possibly* the Crew one are more in the actual game-changers category. So, overall, the name is fine. And it's not like you need to install all of them.
>>
>>153039019
Shouldn't you at least play the game before compiling lists like that?

>geysers

>Quicksand

>>Plants that grow in certain areas of the biomes so you have to search for them
>Trees with fruits that do anything of the above.
Plenty of shit that only grows only in particular mini-biomes instead of the planetary main biomes.

>Plants that interact with the player with spikes, poison, spitting spores, having a mouth and biting, throwing deez nuts.
What is Trictus?

>Rocks that are actually rocks. Even decorative rocks, make them so players can make rock monsters to get you stoned or something.
Cobblestone, throwing boulders, decorative rock objects, whole rock-themed furniture set, rock armor. What else do you want?
>>
>>153039479
I think he meant Quicksand more in that it's a non-translucent, slow sinking Tar that looks like sand, not the Loose Silt blocks that have to fall on you to trap you.

Imo the only true QoL mods are these:
>-One-handed Torch
>-Container UI Tweak
>-Improved containers

I'd love to see a mod that fixes crewmembers being downright SHITS to you though, because currently:
>crewmembers will close doors you pass through, making hasty retreats difficult
>crewmembers have large "hoverboxes" so it's easy to "activate" (press E on) them, making them sit still and making it hard to click what you want.
>crew that are told so sit still will do so until you leave the planet, so if you accidentally tell on to stay they may as well be dead because I'm not fucking going back two screens (or however far I've gone when I notice they didn't teleport to me) to go back and get them.

I think these aren't QoL mods but I do think there's an argument for being QoL:
>-Fix Floaty Controls
As I stated before I think this was intentional & impacts gameplay
>-Earth's Finest - Crew Improvements
Crew are so useless in combat right now that even though this blatantly alters gameplay, I think it's in line with what the devs intended. I only bring crew for that sweet jump boost and for them to meatshield bullets for me... desu I think they're fairly cheesy.
>-EPP Light Mod
I didn't mention this one earlier because why do you even need it? Underwater exploration? Light isn't really an issue for me.

Not QoL:
>-Gardenbot2
>-Food stack
Unless I'm missing something and the game will still properly track whether or not the food is rancid or not when you stack it, I don't see how this could ever be called a QoL mod. If you don't like the hunger mechanic then make a mod to eliminate it/create a superfood/etc. Don't act like hunger & food supply aren't part of the challenge of the game.
>-New & Outpost Merchants pay full price for your items
This is straight-up cheating, I don't understand how anyone could call this QoL when its sole purpose is to give you bigger rewards.

>This is straight-up cheating, I don't understand how anyone could call this QoL when its sole purpose is to give you bigger rewards.
I'd be fine with the fuckers actually paying me a decent sum for Upgrade Modules I have excess of. Or whatever the heck they were. I know one of those psuedo-progression-gate items sold for a single pixel each, and that's pretty dumb.
Though I do have a counter-argument: what exactly makes the "bigger rewards" part such an issue? What is there to spend Pixels on?
There's "legal" ship Licenses, outdated weapons, meager food, outdated armor, furniture, Hoverbikes, ad fuel.
Out of those, Licenses, Hoverbikes, and Fuel could be considered the actual important shit.
Licenses are usually gotten from crewmates because of the ludicrous inflation on the prices, so that's literally only there for fucks like myself to care about. (I hate crewmates.)
Hoverbikes are kinda fun, but not really useful for much. Traversing the outpost/Ark faster, going across flat planets (good luck with that!), and that's pretty much it. And they're easy as hell to damage, making them a pixel sink to use for long periods of time.
And fuel... Well, that shit's pretty much trivial to get, even with spookies after you.

Now, note that I'm not arguing that the mod is cheating (it pretty much is) but more-so how much of an impact the cheating has.

A lot of people say it's because they wanted to reel in the kid demographic, but I think that's kind of stupid.
Kids either wouldn't really care about the story(ies), or would find the (old) lore interesting.

I think they were just really lazy and wanted to rush the game out the door as quickly as possible. So, they fire the writers, remove the old lore, and hire new (cheap) writers to come up with something mediocre yet passable.
I never played the nightlies, but I have a feeling they're shitty story has been brewing since the weapon/attack overhaul.
They probably didn't want to move over any of the old racial weapons on to the new system. So, might as well just cut everything that pertains to a specific race.

Of course this is all just speculation, because there isn't any official word as to why they would cut so much content.

When the Florans were first concepted and revealed, they did not look like in that cinematic.

When Chucklefish revealed the cinematic, people here and on the forum even (delusion had yet to set in) rejected it, forcing them to make excuses and eventually replace it.

If you look at the current official art (Nuru's is a good example), they do not resemble that cinematic at all.

So when you say everything, you mean "every shortcut." Sure, you can go ahead and wank that everything you do can be made from the ground up, but now we're literally arguing something along the lines of time efficiency.
An hour and a half of an appropriate planet will get you more bars than you'll probably ever need short of some titanic megaproject. At that point you may as well "be a bitch" because no one is going to care if you got it all by hand. The project alone is enough.
One could argue the same thing for 3dprinting, but I'll give you that it's one of the primary uses for pixels.
Teleporters cost more in diamonds than they do pixels, and you'll need at most two for any project. Let's not even include those, but that's another use anyway.
Eggs are a shortcut to skip a boring mechanic.
Death Tax? As a use? Cmon.
Consumables? Other than food? Let me guess, you're going to say you actually use Stimpacks?
Tech consoles, sure. I can't really imagine any time I've ever seen anyone need one, but, sure.
Deeds pay for themselves, you know this.
Already covered food: Buyables = junk.
Already covered vehicles: Nifty, but rarely useful.
Furniture is just 3d printing restated.

So we have two one-time fees, one of which prints money for you in exchange for time, the other of which won't be bought terribly often. Then, we have furniture/printing. Then Tech Consoles. So we have one reasonably common drain on pixels (furniture) and a few rare purchases. Compared to the wealth that can be made exploring planets. The loot from which you don't want increased in sell value. So it's coming down to: you want people to spend more time on planets grinding pixels so they can build.

Explain to me how the increase in sales is so bad again? Anything that you're citing as a use are workarounds or time savers (the former of which amount to being further time savers.)The one thing that literally can't be gotten any other way is for content that is entirely optional.

>>
>>153045583
not good.
people need to stop using single block types in huge areas.
they look awful.

you should bend different block types and different textures and make things detailed and interesting. 3000 blocks of thatch wall just looks horrible. make the stairs weave in and out of the tree trunk, and make them change from stairs, to ladders, to ramps, to ropes, the staris again. make some branches out of wooden logs and make pathways that weave from branch to branch half covered in flowers and leaf blocks. the rooms should be self contained and connected to other rooms via rope bridges and winding branch pathways.

DETAIL and EFFORT are what make good builds. mass block factories are shit tier
>>
>>153045583
I kinda hate that all trees look the same and there are not giant trees you can carve or big trees to make yourself a treehouse.
>>
>>153046104
Converesly, it doesn't make a lot of sense for one tree to be made of a ton of blocks of different texture and color.
>>
>>153046217
he should make the house in multiple trees planted close together then. the stairs and rope bridges climb up via multiple tree trunks and the branches at the top interweave to form a single canopy. rope bridges and such form pathways to connect different rooms that are suspended in the branches of the trees like birds nests.

the anon has a house inthe shape of a tree. he does NOT have a tree with a house built into it.

Am i right in understanding this supposed 'fix' for the EPP is to make it so you have to keep swapping them around depending on the environment instead of the effects stacking as you upgrade the pack?
Or have I simply forgotten how they worked in the first place?
>>
>>153055183
They upgrade. The only reason you'd swap them is if you have a special mod on one that you like, like healing 3 or damage 3.
>>
>>153055471
If they still upgrade that doesn't explain why I can't use my cooling pack on a world thats freezing anymore unless i need to make a new one since applying the FU mod among others.
I've modified my copy of the eppfix now and i seem to be able to still connect to servers so it's fine i guess. That change is stupid though.

The biggest failure of games like NMS and Starbound is that you're not going to make players CARE if they can just leave a planet and find another one. There are no characters that you would care about, even the colonies are laughalby impersonal and serve mainly as a passive income source. Starbound has the potential to be a fun multiplayer experience, preferably with PvP and wave events, but the vanilla singleplayer experience is just a soulless sandbox.
>>
>>153064494
That reason, anon, is exploration. Just because you don't like or understand a component of the game doesn't make it objective fact.
That being said, I would like the exploration polished more. I would also like more structures, we have too few atm.

>>153064692
This is a moot point, though. Exploration is cool, but a procedurally generated experience has its limits, in the sense that sooner or later you'll recognize all the patterns and the experience will lose its charm, and you can only hide it for so long. The best you can hope for is for the game to utilize a massive number of potential variables, and at this point both NMS and Starbound have failed to do so.

I love the idea but I think you can do better on the leaves... the rain thing kinda forces your hand anyway.

Imo you should have left far less open space (i.e. less background-less space). I think it'd look just as good with a solid plant background. Since you're obviously not going for that, here are a couple suggestions:

>When leaving open background spaces, make sure the bottom of the opening has an open background space as well.
If water flows down into a pool area, and the pool has an open background spot, the water will drain out into the background, right? Like you get what I'm saying? You have pools of water in your tree because you put a "window" above an area that has solid background, so the water sits there.

>Use some other transparent/translucent block for background to mimic open space
Using glass or something would block water but still make it look like there's a gap between the leaves, just find a block that camouflages well.

>Plan out your holes better
Imagine you're looking at a real tree. The center line of the tree, the part directly above the trunk, is going to have more, thicker branches than the outer parts. As well, there are going to be more gaps in the center because leaves only grow on the outermost branches. As you look upon the outer edge of the tree, the foliage will appear denser because the angle of the sphere. Pic related. Use less holes near the outer edges of your tree and more holes near the center, but also use more background wood in the center.

Pls respond.
On another note, I discovered a mod that makes enemies bleed when you kill them. It's pretty fucking neat because it mixes with other liquids, making them less effective at what they do. If there was a mod where you need to drink water regularly it would make up really interesting situations.
>>
>>153085606
Note2: It doesn't mix well with glowing water, like water and oil, but it does mix 100% with regular water. We've got plenty of castlevania stuff, it wouldn't hurt to have some vampirism too or to make some potions with blood/blood magic shit.
>>
>>153085606
>Pls respond.
I just meant they're mostly the same effects as the EPP augs.

And I don't know why anyone would want Bethesda-esque increase-by-use passive skill system in Starbound. It might sound cool on paper, but it would end up being a pointless timewaster.
>>

>Farming is a bit less worse than it is now, but if you farm plenty of times you get more skilled and actually go faster.

>You're a meat eater so you get more bonuses for hunting meat.
>You're used to cave crawling/penumbra planet so you get +2 light radius/ can identify things in the dark,
>>
>>153087089
Sounds cool on paper, but any implementation will suck apex balls.

Either the effects are so good they're absolutely must-have and everyone has to grind them, OR the improvements are so minor they're useless.
>>
>>153087583
It wouldn't be a big change but it would be noticeable and maybe shape your gameplay if you merge some of them.

Not a mod for everyone, but I'd love it. It would be extra nice if some perks cancelled other perks and they had downsides too.
>Daywalkers get more regen at day, but they are slower by night/ Dungeon explorers get extra % chance of getting an item but 25% chance of ruining his crops.
If it sounds cool on paper it will be cool once modded, but it must be planned skillfully so if you unlock all the perks you become an average dude. Just like IRL.
It would make every time you play different.

Hard to make and not for everyone, alright, but fun nonetheless.

Anyone know how to upload stuff to the workshop?
>>
>>153118225
Nevermind, I found it.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=753364014

There is also a little extra thing on moons as well.
>>
>>153117461
did you disable the purple butthole moon monster or something?
>>
>>153118475
Testing it out now, Anon. Your Steam name amuses me
>>
>>153118803
If you aren't carrying any erchius fuel, it won't spawn.
>>
>>153113927
Looks cool anon, shame I wouldn't subscribe to a workshop mod for my life since I don't want my friends to actually know I still play starbound.
>>
>>153119061
If you mine it, it spawns though..?
>>
>>153117461
>>153118840
Me again.
Something's up with your mod boss. I'm crashing on a certain region of this moon every time I load the chunk in. Did you use anything in these dungeons that could be from a mod? If not, I'm not sure what to tell you, but i get the suspicious your mod is causing my game to crash.
>>
>>153119930
Only if you pick up the dropped ore from mining it. Just breaking the tiles won't do it. Basically, it spawns whenever you have some fuel in your inventory.
>>
>>153119548
Oh, well that sucks. I can understand why you wouldn't want that, even if I never had that issue myself. Think I even send a friend a screenshot of my desktop for a specific reason a few years ago. It was (and probably still is) full on freak mode aswell. With a cringy waifu background and shortcuts to weeb games, and all that. Wanna check out my blog :^)
>>
>>153120195
I dont think i did, can you check your log file and see what's causing the crash?
>>
>>153120348
Update: I let it sit for a few minutes a third time, and it went through. The "Crashed ship" mini dungeon is there.
I wans't very specific though. It's not so much a crash as a lock-up. That's the only thing the game has ever done to me, so I thought that locking up was the equivalent of a crash. Consider me informed.
I'll keep hopping around and try to find a proper dungeon.
>>
>>153120232
I mean, I'm very much an unrepentant weeb and see no reason to hide my powerlevel outside of the common courtesy of not bringing it into literally everything, but something about letting people know that I actually support this game rubs me the wrong way.
>>
>>153119548
I'm preeeeeeeeetty sure people cant see you download mods.
>>
>>153120513
I guess I can understand that, but I don't really care.
Besides, the workshop is most likely only going to stay usable as long as mods stay really, really basic. If Starbound modding really goes off (Which I personally don't think is going to happen), workshop will most likely be too dumb to handle complex mods properly.
Think of Skyrim and the workshop. Nobody uses it, because there is just better mod managers out there, that can handle more complex things. But until this happens, I will stick to using the workshop, because there is no reason not to.
>>
>>153121147
True, I suppose. Although I also don't like having to go through the modpaks and actually name them properly for usage outside of the Steam client.

>>153121253
Fair enough, chum, you do you.
>>
>>153121382
Yah, this is the only problem I personally have with the workshop.
>>
>>153121253
Skyrim has troubles with the workshop because of size limits, script extenders, weird ways to install etc. Starbound is either paks or self contained folders. I think you'd have to go out of your way to screw that up.

Avoiding putting your mods on the workshop because of crybaby kids on steam is a perfectly valid reason though.
>>
>>153122214
>Skyrim has troubles with the workshop because of size limits, script extenders, weird ways to install etc. Starbound is either paks or self contained folders. I think you'd have to go out of your way to screw that up.
Oh, fair enough then! I just don't know much about modding, so the only thing I knew was that there were many skyrim mods that couldn't be uploaded because of as you said: SKSE, limits, fomod installers etc.
It's good to know that Starbound most likely won't have these kinds of issues.

>>153122214
>Avoiding putting your mods on the workshop because of crybaby kids on steam is a perfectly valid reason though.
Please elaborate. I see that there's certainly enough children without supervision on steam and enough of them have naive beliefs that tell them they should always get what they want, but you'll always encounter this issue. The Nexus has the same problem because it's also a really really big community. And big communities are the ones that attract crybabies.
>>
>>153121253
>I will stick to using the workshop, because there is no reason not to.
gog.com users and pirates can't use Starbound's Steam workshop mods. Avoid it at all costs.
>>
>>153122926
Yeah. But I am a hollow soul that actually intended to support the creators during the start of early access. It was a mistake. Not a terrible mistake, as some people make it out to be, since it was only a few bucks, but a mistake nonetheless.

And since i am not making mods myself and so don't have to upload any, me using the workshop where it's possible doesn't hurt pirates.
>>
>>153122926
Rather, just always provide a non-workshop alternative. There's no reason to deprive people of the convenience of the workshop, if they can access it. Just make sure everyone else can get the mod, too.
>>
>>152992121
Source?
>>
How do you prevent mods from loading from the workshop? I want to test a mod that's similar to one I downloaded, but since it's workshop, I can't just move the file out of the folder as far as I know.
>>
>>153123405
You could unsubscribe from mod A) and subscribe to mod B) and later switch it from B) to A) again if you didn't like it.

This would be a problem on steams end though! If there even really is no solution, which there probably is. In fact, if you care to check, there IS a mod tab in starbounds main menu in the down right corner. Maybe you can disable mods there?
>>
>>153124447
Nope, no option to do it in-game. That just shows you what you have installed and a workshop button to go download more, or to unsubscribe.

Excellent, you're willing to learn. Some tips on how to use the item database. You should recognize the wiring as a part of the tech lab in outpost, so you could search the item database for "outpost" or perhaps "tech". File paths are included in the search. For the hologram, you could've browsed through "ancient" or simply searched for "hologram".

You can also unpack your game's assets and browse them whenever you're looking for any technical detail, be it an itemid or something more complicated.

It has so many weapons choices that could be made eliminating the precedural generated crap and replace it with unique shit like mini-turret dispenser, blade disc gun, bomb glove and the Suck cannon. Also instead of Pokemon reject sprite enemies why not make some killbots? Not stupid shit like the lava fox and poptops.

Moon-Dungeon-Tester-Anon here. Still have yet to find a large dungeon, but I've found a smattering of crashed space shuttles. One had a Sniper Rifle with a Grenade Launcher alt-fire. I'd say I'm pretty much set now.
Being able to possibly find these as soon as you can get a breathing EPP brings up some questions of balance, but I'm sure that anyone actually using this mod has thought of a way to deal with it.

I never noticed how much content was in the game that you could only get through spawning. Like the Protector themed items. You'd think they would allow you get get schematics to craft them, since the bullshit story makes you a "Protector".
