What are some fun bowguns? I'm fine with either LBG or HBG, I just want to try out different gimmicky types. Already have a musket for crag and an isle for status, and while those are fun I want some variety to mix things up, even if I don't get the best kill times or whatever

If you want pierce on rapid you can make the Silverwind LBG. It has 40% affinity so you can easily get a 100% affinity on weakzones. It is pretty fun spam pierce and watch the screen shake wildly.

Trying to make Sting shots work is interesting. In theory they have the potential to hit like a truck (hello Ukanlos Skyshatterer), but in practice they have a lot of kinks to work around.

Dazzling S is also fun alongside the Arm Cannon X.

The specifics are that they add +100% affinity when you strike a hitzone of 45 or higher. The Ukanlos Skyshatter therefore has 70% positive affinity with it, but a weapon with neutral affinity reaches 100% crit chance.

Weakness Exploiter reverts to its 4U incarnation, with it increasing the weakness of a 45+ hitzone by 5 points.

The big kink is the critical distance. Although it *technically* has very generous critical distance, you have to be standing pretty far back to be inside it. Like, further back than Pierce 3. You know how you're usually told that "you're not a sniper" when you're using a Bowgun? Well, with Sting S you basically need to play like a sniper.

That's a big issue because you still have to aim as if they were Normal S, which is very difficult from 5+ dodge rolls away.

The upside is that they're 1/6th stronger than Normal S 2, benefit from TrueShot Up and have stronger synergy with Critical Boost, and double dips on Weakness Exploiter.

is it worth it making a new glaive every time I can make one with better raw?

monster hunter is like a job where you beat up toddlers and take their candy. the candy is pretty shitty a lot of the time but sometimes it's incredibly good. But overall, the satisfaction doesn't come from the candy you steal from the toddlers, but the triumph that you just beat up a toddler.

you can choose to take this job like a minimum wage bs job and sleepwalk through it with a huge ass hammer to smack the toddlers around, but if you are really interested in the job you can do some research and try your best and try and make every shift interesting and unique.

The problem with getting paid candy though is that it's not always the candy you want, and to make the job interesting and unique you're going to need a lot of different candy. Sometimes you'll slap a toddler in the face 30 times to get a rare candy that has a 35% chance of being dropped by the toddler, and yet you won't get it for 5 shifts. But the work makes all the candy you have at the end of the day worth it, and there's no better feeling than sitting on your massive pile of wealth laughing at those less fortunate than you.

Aside from that, just kill monsters and make weapons/armor from their corpses

Also, looking at the resistances of a monster's armor can give you insight into its weakness but even that's typically not a super big deal for casual play

Everyone's on equal ground when they're not using any of those tools. If you're allowed to use them, then people that use one shock trap and one pitfall trap won't be able to compete with people using 4 traps per hunt.

Any monster that can be flashed out of the sky will be, and that will be exploited to the maximum degree. Rather than given TA's being about weapon match ups on monsters, it's become more or less a DPS test against a dummy.

I'll explain it differently, then.

Say I were to hunt a HR Rathian with the GS. Pretty standard stuff. I did a run early today to test a Punishdraw set, and got a time of approximately 3:30. Better execution would see that time lowered. Perfect execution would see a truly remarkable time.

Then, I would try the same hunt with a balls-to-the-wall trap spam strategy. I'd get a time of around, let's say, 1:30. Then, I'd do it again, slightly refining the pathing and positioning. I'd get a time of 1:24. Then again, with a Rathian that spawns with slightly lower health, 1:23. And then that's it. It would never get much better than that, and anything up or down from that point would look pretty fucking samey.

If you can use EVERY tool available to you, you end up with a step-by-step recipe to deal damage to an immobilized monster, not a hunt.

Individuality and imagination would be squashed out. Instead of asking "is Crit Draw or Weakness Exploiter better", the answer would ALWAYS be WE because we've always established what the steps are in our speedrun recipe.

There's reason why HAME has such a poor rapport.

Okay, you know how when you first press the x button to draw your weapon, you can either stand still and just draw it or be moving and do a draw attack? SnS's draw attack is a sort of lunge or forward jump. Ordinarily, SnS is as bad as Lance for having zero poise on anything, meaning you lose your balance (flinch and trip) from both friendly fire and light monster attacks very easily. However, that lunge not only has poise, but gives you about two or three seconds of poise after it's done, even covering further attacks. You can pull that lunge out at any time you aren't in a combo, even if the sns is already drawn, by pressing x+a. With non-striker styles you can also do the backhop in a combo and not charge to do the x+a in a combo, but that's just something you lose with striker in exchange for more damage and arts.

So your rhythm should probably be something like x+a (lunge)-x (upward slash, you don't need to hold r to do it like you normally do because it always follows the lunge) - x - x (standard x combo that is always the first half of SnS's full combo, stop here instead of doing a fourth x to avoid shitty shieldbashes) - x+a (roundslash to finish, skipping a-a) - b (roll) - repeat. This is going off what I remember from the Gen demo and what I've heard as well as possibly-outdated SnS knowledge from previous games, though, so someone might have to fact check that.

you're right, its not really a fair comparison using just the one skill vs three, but adrenaline in this gaim isn't the easiest to get. you can clownsuit it with the blackleather pants and a good talisman, but the biggest I've been able to make with it is AuL and adrenaline, with no extra skills. and is using mostly bulldrome pieces. other optuons include rathalos EX which comes with hot blooded. oh boy. where this really slows down the build, is it limits the weapoms you can use. base white or bust. when, for example (I only know HH builds, so ill use that) an akantor horn build can build around the weapon and bring some big fucking damage.

For gunners, it might not be a very exciting monster, but every blademaster knows how often they can get confused or put to sleep at the drop of a hat. The best thing about this- they're far from the most annoying of status effects, and they don't do damage. Malfestio is a monster dedicated to annoying you through the fight but not slapping you through it, and I think with some improvements Capcom may be making some interesting monsters in the future with this mindset. With all the hate this monster's getting, I think it's about time we point out its good points, and the fact that it fights you in a unique way is one of the best in my eyes.

Tama might be cute and silly but nothing tops the no frills, no bullshit speed and ferocity of Tigrex. Nargacuga couldn't do it in MHFU, and I have yet to see anything that does.

Decent HBG set for HR guild? My Db set is pretty much done and looking to find somthing that'll help me hunt a bit. I have no idea what skills to look for, so not sure what to clown suit. Figured I'd just throw something decent on while I farm.

Using wyvern blaster right now. Decent amount of pierce. Is there a particular gun I should be aiming for? I always played DB which I have a set for each element.
