Yes, though I haven't played in a while (since it updated breaking the english patch, need to check if that's been updated yet). It's basically a currently half-finished MH game on PC, MMO aspects are low (there's a cash shop for cosmetics, technically a somewhat complex limit on how many times you can hunt per day/week (boiling down to 97 hunts a week but actually more like 110-140 because you get a box of free daily items that often includes additional passes) and you see other players wandering around the hub towns instead of just npcs, but that's about it).

Contrary to what assmangled shitbabies like >>152454715 spew, its animations are generally much better than mainline's. I'll warrant some things might seem less weighty because there's less hitstop than in mainline and screenshake than 4U. Only thing they "ruined" about bow is that your quiver disappears when drawing the bow for some reason, and I guess that it could be consider OP since you use a mouse to aim. Don't know about bowgun, haven't used it in MHO.

4U is only shit compared to other titles in the series in like three ways imo.

First, it has colours blown out the ass. I don't mind colourful but it's like they designed it as a much less colourful game and then just used colour correction to pump the saturation and contrast up really high, so a lot of it just looks gross.

Second, it's 3DS exclusive, meaning you can only play it at fucking 240p.

Third, if you're autistic enough to think you need the absolute best weapons in the game, the endgame is an rng grindfest in which you will end up hunting anywhere from hundreds to a couple thousand rajangs trying to get the exact perfect weapon(s) you want, because for some reason capcom thought it would be a good idea to make the most powerful weapons diablo-style loot that you get randomly from endgame hunts at a low rate instead of something you build and upgrade from scratch.

But Gen is an absolute blast and a incredible nostalgia trip to boot. Minus the torture of Deviants which don't compare the masochism of Guild Quest Level 140 Rape Ape Marathons.

If you want to ease back in, get Gen.
Want to question your life but have a "rewarding" amount of time and content, get 4U.

Pretty disappointing time, especially considering I was lucky enough to eat for Pyro and Booster. What do people usually eat for with teo bow? I go for pyro because of the potential for extra staggers but maybe booster or weakener is better.

No it isn't, you only have force and brace at first and have to unlock drive and the second wystone slot later.

That said whether you should use drive is down to which apex it is and what weapon you're using/how you're using it. Pierce bowgun, or bowgun at all, should absolutely have drive, as should BM weapons with large arcs on diablos for instance; On the other hand, on pretty much any bm weapon vs seregios there is no point to drive since its weak spot, its vulnerable apex spot and its trip spot are all its legs which are a huge usually unshielded hitbox.

GQs, even with the suggestions by many GQ supporters, end up overshadowing the monster based weapons on the simple scale of their maximum values alone.
Why would I make a Chammy GS when I could grind for a Poison relic with nearly the same, if not better, status? Why would I make a Chammy GS when I could give up ~30 points of Poison to gain much better base power and sharpness?

Why would I grind for a Poison Relic, when I could just hunt Chammy and make his GS? Why would I grind for a Raw relic when I can just make Akantor/Ukanlos/(other) weapons?

Everyone praises Relics as a great End Game option. But if they're simply better than forgeables, why ever try to build a forgeable once you have something "that works"? You can just use that "just works" weapon on the GQs until you get the Relic you've been wanting! Because that's how we've been playing this game up to that point. Starter gear only and never building stuff based off the monsters we kill.
And if there are Forgeables that are better than Relics, that means Relics are mediocre, and by definition not optimal (which tends to be what end game play is about, making the best and most powerful sets).
If Relics are straight up worse than Forgeables, then their place as an "End Game grind" is moot.

So Relics that are better than Forgeables break the gameflow from the entire game leading up to the End Game Relic Hunt. And relics that are worse than Forgeables aren't worth the time to hunt them in the End Game.

There is something positive about relic weapons too though:

People actually ended up using different designs due to it, not just the one or two same visuals forever.

Moreover, it actually made people use things like poison and sleep GS just because they were better regardless of the status anyway.

This is an underlying problem with the way Capcom handles slower weapons. Element and status are just shit and it makes me sad. In fact it not just makes me sad, it's the #1 issue this game has design wise in my eyes.

Here we have Capcom devs creating OVER A HUNDRED (!) final greatswords for example.
Yet only very few of them are any good. And why should anyone EVER bring a GS with a focus on element or status when they are so shit?

I've posted about this a million times but I'll say it again: I should be REWARDED for bringing an appropriate weapon. If I bring a GS with a hefty amount of fire damage to a monster weak to fire, I should OUTPERFORM someone who has only crafted one raw GS that is good in all situations.

It riles me up so much because they shit on 90%+ of the cool designs they make just because of their TRASH balancing.

I don't know about CB, but I know a thing or two about adept guard. When you do adept guard, the "guard animation" is the time window that allows you to do next action, which is to attack, do another block, or roll/step. So if you want to attack immediately, just mash that button. But, you shouldn't do that each time you block. In some occasion, you can delay the counter (as long as the animation still on) so that your counter can reach the target. On Tigrex roar for example, after it roars, you can wait until its head goes down so that the counter will reach it.

It's really dumb how in every weapon class, the vast majority of final weapons are completely useless, even if they become available at around the same time. The only way to fix it is to either add more distinguishing features to weapons (and even then there would probably still be weapons that are just mathematically better most of the time) or to significantly reduce the number of endgame weapons by having trees merge at some point. Joke weapons can stay jokes but should give you luck skills.

Help a noob out, as i understood it there's really no way to block or dodge attacks if you dont have SnS or use adept?
Am i supposed to get 2-3 attacks and run away to watch for the monsters move? Adept lets me atleast stay in the gut and move out right when it attacks, but it doesnt always fit some monsters or the gear i want to use.

An important part of SnS is keeping your super armor up while maintaining dps
This can be done by using your draw attack/x+a to initiate, strike three times swiftly, then backstepping (back+a) without charging to reset the whole combo
As a bonus, adept cannot charge and the i-frame boost is applicable to the backstep, which will give a unique counterattack

the shield bash combo will shoot that dps down and leave you vulnerable, don't use it

What gave you that impression? It's completely false, if someone told you that don't trust them though because they're either fucking with you or speaking from a position of ignorance themselves.

All weapons have a dodge, though the aerial dodge is kind of fucky. All dodges have iframes.

Iframes start at 6 (out of 30), but with the evasion+1 skill they go to 10, and with +2 to 12. 4U also had evasion+3 which put them at a ridiculous 18, but that's not in generations iirc. They usually start a few frames into your dodge and usually end before the animation is over; Exceptions are dual blades and lance. Both have iframes that start sooner I think (at least that's what it feels like to me), and in the case of lance, in 4U it was possible with e+3 to have your iframes end after the animation was over, so you could chain three dodges together for almost two solid seconds of invincibility at will. Pretty crazy!

Lance, gunlance, SnS, charge blade, greatsword can all block. Heavybowgun has a kind of block too but I strongly advise you to never use it and forget it even exists. Greatsword's block should only be used in absolute emergencies or to shorten the effect of long roars you have trouble dodging, it eats your sharpness very fast and is a weak block (you'll recoil a lot from it). SnS also has a fairly weak block but not nearly as bad as GS's, and in time you'll get in the rhythm of using it to stand your ground when it's inconvenient to roll. With lance and CB especially guarding can be very effective, since both have counters and extremely strong shields.

Press b to dodge with any weapon, and hold r to block with the appropriate weapons. If your weapon is sheathed and can block, r+x+a will draw straight into a block; It does different things for non-blocking weapons, like going straight into charging a bow or playing a hunting horn melody.

All you have to do is make it so that raw GS are always a good option and never bad, they're the "allrounder" type and might even be best against some monster that isn't weak to anything

But all the other monsters that have some weakness, be it sleep, poison, thunder, fire, dragon etc. they NEED to make it so that if go out of your way to craft all these weapons and bring them to these fights, then you get rewarded for doing this by having slightly better performance; by having the edge.

That's what healthy balance would look like.

DaS and MH are very similar on a basic mechanical level but in practice they play very differently, and I've found if I play MH for a while Dark Souls, which I used to be very good at, becomes difficult for me, and vice versa. DaS has pretty notoriously bad hitboxes sometimes but nothing that compares to the shit in MH, and a lot of things in MH don't have tells (like rathian's first-frame charge). How soloable are Dreadking and Silver wind? I've soloed everything in 3U, 4U and Gens that wasn't specifically made for multiplayer hunts, but I'm losing my shit watching these dumbasses triple cart to everything and wasting my time.

Multiplayer really makes you a shittier player outside of epic hunts. Started with 3U for 3DS and that had no online so I soloed everything in G Rank minus the elder dragons. After the shitshow that was 4U's G-rank community I refuse to go online unless the hunt is intended for it. Anyone else feel the same? I can't feel like I'm getting good around online.

Deviants really expose how hypocritical the MH community is with it's "git gud" mentality. There should be better ways to filter retards out of the endgame hunts. Itbrings back memories of 4U's apex hunts with shitters that never unlocked wystones yet.
