You're assuming Great Ones are ever babies. The Orphan of Kos crawled out of that slut fully grown and ready to beat ass. I lean towards Mergo having assumed a baby-like for whatever reason, but just like every Great One he has his own agenda. He cries in the voice of a human, as well, like he's trying to get attention. And he cries constantly, maddeningly echoing throughout everyone's heads. He's more sinister than a legitimate newborn would be, or so I've taken it that way. Not to mention merely making contact with him fucking destroyed the brains of the School of Mensis's scholars, which is a unique result. Gehrman made contact and was imprisoned, Micolash made contact and became a crazy asshole, and Patches made contact and was turned into a spider because Amygdalas are fucked up. But that's nothing like outright mind destruction like Mergo pulled.

One of the things I appreciate most about BB is the boss fights go on a while.
Even if you've upgraded shit as much as you can prior to fighting said boss, you still have to wear it down.

In the other Souls games if I want fun bosses I feel like I have to purposely gimp my character so I don't chunk one fifth of its health per swing.

No idea what that is. Savescumming refers to getting to a point just before something with a % chance to reward you is about to happen (most commonly Boss fight thet has a chance drop optimal gems), then quiting the game, backing up your save to a USB, then going in and rolling the chance (eg killing the boss), if you get what you wanted just keep playing, if you did not then you exit the game, restore your savefile from the USB and try again.

Technically you could use this method to create a Skyrim style save system, but it's far quicker just to run back when you die. The only time it's really nesisary is farming Layer 3 Chalice Bosses, since if you don't get what you want you have to run 3 whole layers again for another shot, so quitting/restarting the game is much more attractive.

How annoying is the grind for Kos Parasite gems? I've heard horror stories about it, but ayy mode looks like so much fun. Is it worth it?

Uncanny Kos Parasite (Radial, Radial, Triangle) will have to either farm Pthumerian Elder for Cold Abyssal Radials or Bone Ash Hunter Arcane Radials.

Pthumerian Elder is easy, Bone Ash Hunters are not. The best setup is two Bone Ash Hunter Arcane Radials and an Arcane Triangle from Watchers but some settle with at least one Elder Cold Abyssal. Bone Ash Hunters also have a hard time dropping the right gem.

Alternatively you could farm Brainsuckers for Arc%+ flat Arc but those make everything besides the multi-hit Ayysplosion weaker.

Chalices. Grinding gems from FRC chalices will get you all the chunks you could ever ask for and insight to buy more, plus the like 100000 echoes per boss kill and the chance to get gems you need.

Barring that, the blue-eyed werewolves in Upper Cathedral Ward have a chance to drop chunks, and it's pretty slim, but it's the best way to grind them out outside of chalice dungeons.

Exactly. You grind gems from bosses, who can also drop chunks. If you have high arc you'll get a chunk or two almost every time, if you don't just slap on an Eye rune and you're at about the same drop rate.

As for your build, it really all depends on what you want out of it. What level you're planning on stopping at, what you already have put together, what weapons you plan to use most, that kind of thing.

I thought about this a lot, especially during my first playthrough. Look at the beasts in Old Yharnam. Specifically the ones in the church. They are holding a service, probably similarly to what they did before the scourge, and trying to maintain the semblance of normal life that they had before. Really makes you think.

Skill builds are fine whether you parry or not. Plenty of choice in weapons which do solid damage. Stick with 27.2s though, there isn't much else that can greatly benefit skill characters gemwise.

I've used it quite a lot, made a bl140 character to use it at max damage output in both modes and i can say that only using one mode is not nearly as fun and satisfying as using both depending on the situation.

Regarding the arcane guide in the OP, wouldn't it be better to kill witches during your visit to hemwick to get +6 saw spear? You'll get an easier access to cainhurst and you won't need to deal with spawning Mad Ones in the area, instead of killing them only after you get augur

Gems would be fucking lovely to drop for people and get, too.

However, I'm not sure about dropping weapons. BB weapons are all unique, there's no seventeen different straight swords so I'm wary about the idea of weapon drops, it removes the need to even go through some areas, but it would also make making new builds infinitely easier if someone could drop off a Kos Parasite and some Arc gems for a new character.

Long post incoming and I sound like a massive faggot, sorry guys

I need some help/advice because I'm a bit overwhelmed by my options on what to do next in Bloodborne. Right now I'm near the end of the game at level 98. I just have to fight Mergo's wet nurse and then on to Gehrman and Moon Presence (I'm going with that ending first). I should also note that I went through almost the entire game using the Saw Cleaver because I've become so comfortable with it so I'm in the mood to try something new.

The problem is I don't know what to do next. If I want to finish the game then I'll be launched into NG+ where my only interest is speedrunning through the game to get the other endings, however I don't know how fast this will be considering the difficulty spike. On top of that, I'm not really sure which stats I should continue to level or which weapons to use. My issue with NG+ is that I won't be able to do much co-op without playing through the whole game. Plus I'll be leveling up a lot more which will affect my stat scaling for co-op, won't it? So I guess my dilemma is do I finish the game or do I stay where I am for the co-op fun?

On the other hand I really want to try both an arcane build and a bloodtinge build at some point. These seem like they would be easier in NG+ since I already have all hunter tools/weapons. But then it wouldn't feel unique to my character having such varying stats. So is it worth starting a new hunter and focusing on a new build entirely or should I just continue my original NG+ as a multi-skilled character? And if I DO start a new hunter altogether, is it worth forgetting about NG+ in the first place and just using my new characters towards the other two endings?

What was encountered in the game is not a normal hunt. Yharnam was clearly mostly gone already, and the Blood Moon only made that worse, as it overdrives the Beast Scourge. Previously Old Yharnam was burned because of the Blood Moon.

Hunts aren't every night, but they're a common occurrence, as the people you can talk to seem used to them enough that they can't be as rare as once a generation, especially since the Scourge can't be older than a few decades.

Based on just sort of anecdotal stuff, nights of the hunt where hunters go out or the church recruits folks to kill beasts, happen maybe once every few months and have varying degrees of severity from one person to a few people.

When the whore says 'I'm off in nights of the hunt', it hints that she's seen a few of them, enough to have a policy on it, at least. Chapel Dweller's dialogue hints at regularity, too, that hunts always end, always do, always have. People also have beast protection methods, like the incense. These are the kinds of things that arise from a certain familiarity to a situation. Plus, beast have been going on as long as the Healing Church and even some time before, so beasts and blood are commonplace things to see. Maybe not every night, but enough.

It may be worth noting that much of the scrap-wooden structures like platforms, railings, scaffolding, etc. in Old Yharnam look like they've been superimposed onto the existing architecture after the town was destroyed (some of the platforms lead directly into damaged windows or holes in the walls, for instance). I don't think Djura and his companions had the time or resources to build those things, which leaves the only other candidates to be the beasts themselves.

I don't know if its like this for anyone else, but I mostly got a PS4 to upgrade from my PS3 and experience Bloodborne with a friend who was really enjoying it at the time. Since then, I've really mostly only been playing Bloodborne, Dark Souls 2, and Dark Souls 3, in spite of the amount of games I've bought to convince myself this was a good decision, I haven't finished any of them and really, they leave me relatively unimpressed. I almost feel like a lot of these were a waste of money because they were purchased digitally.

Probably a bit rough. NG+ has the highest difficulty increase and the biggest increases are in the early game, they even out later on. But luckily, chalices don't scale with NG+, they stay the same, so you can buff yourself up a bit more there, too.

So about Rom the Vacuous Spider... I'm an axe user primarily and that seems decent against the small spiders. Still figuring out the fight though and I wonder, as slow as Rom itself is, do you guys think the stake driver's transformed and charged R2 is viable? Is there a good rundown somewhere of how to get the most out of various weapons? For the most part I've got a good idea of how to use each weapon at the basic level but I end up not using half of the moves on almost every weapon, some I barely even use an entire form of them.

If the beasts are capable of making crude structures out of wood then it's possible they made the crucifixes and set them ablaze. As for why they would do that is anyone's guess. Maybe it's a form of punishment for those beasts who break the 'law' or perhaps it is a funerary ritual for those that have already passed on.

The fact that they see the crucifix position as something symbolically important enough to worship with the blood-starved beast I think supports the latter more than the former. I highly doubt they killed the BSB (it was probably taken out by hunters) because the one in the hunter's nightmare protects them more than anything. However, I also doubt that humans were the ones to put such a nasty thing in their church.

Just finished my first playthrough. I was pretty OP by the end but I wanted to cash in my echoes and level up before NG+. Still, feels good.

Ah, well, be forewarned that the Souls games are also intentionally vague as hell because it expects active exploration and reading, or the story is conveniently not really told to you and you can hit monsters with swords.

I've never actually used poison bloodgems, just straight up more damage is almost always just a better idea. By all means, slot it in (bloodgems aren't forever, you can change them out whenever you want at no cost), go into Central Yharnam and try it out, see if it's any good to you.

I'll be perfectly honest when I say I have only ever used physical or elemental damage buffs on gems. It's just a personal thing, poison gems and charge attacks and open foes are all too situational, I prefer being to just deal the most damage I can at once because it's appropriate for ever situation. But that's just me, there's some weapons where the charge attacks would potentially OHK stronger enemies, but then again, you could get the same from flat physical buffs.

I'll take it you're pretty new to the game, so here's some advice for gems you'll find later in the game, cursed gems. Cursed gems have the best buffs but come with additional negative traits. Not all of them are that bad, though, but some make a cursed gem useless.

The best negative effects you can get are:
>attack vs beasts/kin down
>stamina cost up

The amount of damage lost against beasts/kin is negligible contrasted to the damage you do overall, and stamina costs can be completely offset by equipping some stamina runes.

The absolute worst are:
>attack down
>health depletes
>weapon durability down

Attack down just makes the gem's buff pointless, making the gem pointless. Health depletion CAN be offset a bit by health-regen gems, but be careful with this. Weapon durability down isn't that bad, but you will find yourself repairing weapons a lot more and weapons can break mid fight, and they deal way less damage when the 'weapon at risk' warning comes up.

Dick around with gems you find, you might find it compliments your playstyle. Some bosses are very weak to poison, for instance, so slotting in a poison gem here and there for some bosses could be a major advantage, or you can just go flat damage increases, it's up to you.

Another thing, the best gems are found in the Chalice Dungeons, and are pretty much your main source of them aside from some drops in the storyline. You'll definitely want to go through a few of the harder ones and pick up the gems in there. And the best part (or worst, depends how you look at it) is you can redo those chalices as many time as you can want to get the best gem drops.

What makes hunter enemies appear in chalice dungeons? Is it totally random? I used to see them all the time but it seems it's much more rare these days.

How the hell am I supposed to get +9 saw spear before fighting Shadows and Ludwig? As far as I know, you can get only 5 chunks in Cainhurst, 1 in Forbidden Woods and 6 in Hunter's Nightmare. By farming Gargoyles in Cainhurst?
