The Beastmen are a cool faction but the pack is a bit overpriced for what you get. There probably won't be a price drop for some time, so if you really like the Beastmen then go ahead, otherwise wait it out.

There's a 50% chance that the caster damages itself though!

Select the quest battle (on the map or through quest log)
There's a button in the bottom right of the quest battle window that you can use to teleport for 5k gold (when the battle's finished you're automatically teleported back to your original position)

Select your group and right click the enemy
All your units move and automatically direct themselves to engage enemies they get close to while maintaining formation

Good, a lot of variety in armies though most maps be it siege, underground or open field maps are very lackluster. Also DLC can be a bit pricy but provides some good quality content so far. The finished game will likely address all these issues since they are expanding the world drastically, they've already started making unique asymmetrical maps and sieges are one of the biggest complaints they get.

There are very few units in terms of count for each faction, even if inter-faction diversity is boosted.
No time progression or family trees, which is intentional because of hero units which must remain alive at all times
Hero units can pull of Dynasty Warriors regularly
Unit sizes are smaller.
Shit-tier sieges with teleporting units.
No unit abilities or stances.
Balance problems like always
None of these make the game unplayable but as it is it's an inferior game to Attila.

Watered down diplomacy and city management, no naval combat, although there's multiple completely different armies they all have relatively small rosters.
Still runs on warscape engine, certain campaigns have little direction or variation but the two biggest ones chaos and dwarves should be getting a lot more when the expansions come.
Chaos divided + ogre kingdoms and all that eastern shit will spice those campaigns up a lot as both respectively only really fight norsca and greenskins for the most part.
Game is still in works and will get a lot more content but if theres anything you want to see in the game/changed then now is the time to voice the opinion whilst they are still working on the game.

If you have 0 interest in Warhammer you won't feel lost in it. It's also been the most smooth launch CA have had in years really. (DLC prices aside.)

It's probably one of the better of the newer total war games. The settlement management is quite simplified though which is disappointing but not a deal breaker, it's kind of like AoC.

With the DLC so far the game only has 6 playable factions (outside of mods) But has the most diverse set of units and tools yet. Also they've dramatically improved the unit collision over ROME II and Attila. Battles do feel a bit too fast though but there are mods for that.

I guess it really depends on how you feel about a fantasy total war game. If you like the idea of magic and monsters and mixed arms in a Total War game you'll probably enjoy it.

I really wish this was something we had control over. I really don't care for some mercenaries or some shit tier levy units that are just there to hold the line, so yeah, I would really like if my archers could fire into them and the enemy they have tied up.

In Attila, I've noticed friendly fire from behind is much more common. I have lost lots of units because of it and while it can be aggravating, the fact that it CAN happen makes me happy.

I did not, but the Proper Combat combination with the magic mod says that he merged the two FROM the latest Molay's.

So in theory you should be able to run either Molay's, or Proper Combat, or the combination-mod and they should all be save-game compatible.

Looking through my mod I wonder if it may be the "No Cheats for the AI" mod.

Fell bats are utter dog shit against anything that isn't a non dwarf ranged unit or any kind of artillery crew. If it can't fight back, it's good. They have 0 base armor (can get +20 from a tech in the top right tree) and die pretty quick, so you have to be careful at times. If the enemy sends anything to attack them while they are fucking around with their target, you have to pull out immediately. They will get cut down.

Dire wolves are also good. Extremely fast, can evade enemy fire and can rip units to shreds pretty damn quickly.

Yeah, vargheists are slow. They won't be doing much to artillery. They are more of a flying shock cavalry, imo. Very good for shitting up enemy lines after the initial clash, or as a flying chariot type unit that breaks enemy lines and allows your other units to clean house while they are scared and on the ground.

I'm not a fan of Terrorgheists. They are fast, but against any single unit - lords especially, they aren't good. They will generally win, but when the unit starts fleeing, the Terrorgheist will continue to chase them. That's obviously good, but all it will do is Chase them -> Land to attack -> Miss -> Fly towards enemy -> Land, ad infinitum. They take some effort to use but imo the slot it better used on a vargheist or really any non-shit tier unit.

I made a mod a while back to observe AI behavior that basically just gave me (Empire) a unique, faction specific unit that had map wide vision and other assorted goodies. Long story short AI has a hardon for agents and every faction races to construct those buildings. This might explain why some factions do consistently well on the campaign, like Orcs, because they're usually the first to start shitting out agents, usually around turn 30, and just start harassing everyone with them.

They take a long time to kill, and with regeneration, can be taken out of the fight for a bit until it's ready to kick more ass. Just have to be careful when they get hit by an Anti Large squad.

Both Fell Bats and Dire Wolves become massively better if you get the red Lord skill for them, in addition to the tech upgrades. Even better if you have a lord that have the trait that buffs them. If you have all that Dire Wolves will chew through any low/mid tier unit incredibly fast, and do a surprising amount of damage to good ones. Bats are not quite as good, but have the mobility advantage so that they're harder to intercept.

I think Wood Elves are going to be similar to a lot of the Roman troops in Rome 1/2.

They're almost all going to have ranged attacks, equivalent to the Roman javelins. They'll fire off a few bow shots then be able to rush into melee. They'll have dedicated archer units as well.

Orks are the least fun faction by far.

Because, overall, they're the weakest.

They have the worst missiles (barring VC, I guess), terrible artillery, terrible cavalry, and their infantry is pretty bad until you get Black Orks. Black Orks are good, and Grimgor is good, but that doesn't save their roster. The Giant Spider and Giant are also alright, but the giant runs away the instant any spears/guns are pointed at him, and the spider also goes down to guns in an instant.

Overall, they suffer from the worst moral in the game, and battles are frustrating because your units are constantly routing and regrouping, which inflicts massive casualties on you.

The only thing the Orks have is the Waagh mechanic, which allows you to overwhelm someone with numbers. Sure, that is orky and all, but why not translate that to their units? Why not make their unit sizes much larger than every other race? Why make me have to wait around to get some other random magical army to follow me around?

CA really fucked up on the Orks. They managed to make a faction that is weak, unfun, and poorly designed.

This is coming from someone who LOVES Orks, in Fantasy and 40k. My Fantasy army (rest in piece) and my 40k army are both orks, and I've done numerous table top games where I've rolled up ork characters.

Their campaign is boring tho, you HAVE to start with Grimgor, you will be fighting dwarfs, who, on top of the insane bonus to the AI, shit all over your infantry, and you can only get a WAAAAGH and autoresolve your way to Karaz-a-Karak, it gets much better when you start fighting humies and skellies

Tho they need something else, in my opinion, a much broken unit cohesion, orcs properly ranked feels wrong, and would give them a (small) edge over ranged and siege units

Dwarfs kinda suck at anti-cavalry until later on when they get helicopters. Until then, you gotta kill them with Quarrellers and tank them with your melee infantry.

Depending on the lord you start with (Thorgrim or Ungrim), you'll wanna spec Thorgrim into red (army buffs) and Ungrim into the top line (self buffs, he's insanely powerful in melee, while Thorgrim is a fat lazy cunt).

Watch Party Elite's videos on youtube. The videos are 2-3 minutes long and explain a lot of mechanics, tactics, army compositions and other shit really well, especially for a beginner.

In settlements, you have to decide if you want economy or recruitment there. If you want economy, build farms (1), trinket makers (2) and the 3rd slot can be whatever the fuck you want. Build a watch tower -> if it's on the frontlines near someone who dislikes you.

If it's recruitment, build anything that caps out at T3 (barracks, for example) only in small settlements, never the capital, as that's a waste of a slot in the capital that can be built anywhere.

Who are you fighting at the start of the game? Before you get into any metagaming bullshit (early Mount Gunbad), you'll wanna take out Grimgor pretty early on if you can. His army starts with some stupidly OP units that allow him to autoresolve across the entire map with no loss or effort, snowballing the fuck out of the Greenskins. Sometimes he will attack your starting city by turn 15 if you're (un)lucky, and beating him there can change the course of the entire campaign.

If you wanna learn battle tactics, just do a few custom battles outside of campaigns so you have nothing to lose. Don't go straight into 20vs20 battles, though. Start small, like 8vs8, so you can learn what does what easier.

For tech, you wanna go straight for +10 and then +15% income from settlements, followed by +10 and +15% income from trinket makers. That will power your economy rather easily. After that, the +1 public order tech helps immensely early on.

After that, take The Moot and Wurtbad, consolidate a bit, then take Grenzstadt and Averheim. Again, consolidate a bit, see what happens. Chaos will destroy most of the stuff north of you, so avoid Essen and Bechafen (very far away from each other, very hard to defend). If you can, expand into Wissenburg's land, giving you a good invasion point into Reikland. If you can't/don't wanna do that, take out the green dwarfs near Averheim to prevent future shenanigans. You can also expand south through here towards the Border Princes, which will open you up to the main Dwarf faction and all manner of Orcs. Stay the fuck away.

Which is why you declare war with greenskins to boost your reputation among dorfs. Then you make trade agreements with them instead. You gain a lot more that way since they will also declare war on Chaos when they arrive, giving you some extra firepower, especially if you have given them military access.

Chaos Divided is great. It makes the Chaos warriors an actual apocalyptic force to be reckoned with instead of Vikings with a few daemons. It is extremely lore friendly. It adds a bunch of stuff related to each Chaos God, so you won't be just spamming Marauders until you have enough money to get a stack of 19 Chosen and steamroll the world. It adds a lot of cool units, some of them pretty powerful while offset by being expensive or by having few in a pack.

Alright I put the EBII file in the mods folder, and then I put the files that were in the the "TuxGraphicEnhancer" folder in the main M2TW folder, since a readme told me to do that.

Now everything appears to work correctly.

I change a few things up depending on what I'll be up against but the core is

the main killing power, but very squishy. you may need to babysit them a bit to ensure they stay in line and reform if needed

to outrange artillery and force a closer engagement, I tried mortars but their arc of fire isn't as useful when you don't want things to get that close anyway

the unbreakable AoE and the net of amyntok are probably his best additions from him and since he's a hero you can technically stop charges or tie up blobs to shoot into
The overcast net will stop anything and leave them helpless to tear apart with guns

I just have him on a regular horse but one of those flying killsquads with an amber wizard/manticore/griffin might be effective too, he's fairly durable so don't be afraid to rush him in

These tie everything together, stick them in front or on undefended flanks and pick off big targets to start with, and when the enemy gets closer in, bring them to the front and they'll tie up a ton of units to get shot at

Other things:

don't tend to use them but their vanguard deployment can help quickly get rid of artillery pieces or run down units that are routing
>non gun units
If you want to play it more mixed then just toss in some spear or swordsmen, but the most effective picks for your leftover slots will usually be steam tanks in campaign, if you can manage them all
Reiksguard and empire knights are also mobile enough to disrupt units & then get out of the line of fire for the handgunners

tldr
6-8 handgunners, 2+ steam tanks, a general, and optimally a light wizard. (wish the empire had a lore of light lord)

What if they changed it so that shitty units like goblins (units with the expandable trait) didn't count towards the army cap. Instead there are "expendable unit slots" where there is a cap of the number of expendable units you are allowed to take per army. Then your legendary lord doesn't count as a unit and you get either 1 or 2 hero slots where you can only have 1 or 2 heroes in your army but they don't count towards the 20 unit limit either.

It allows bigger battles for people like me that want them without making it too hard for normies that can't micro or macro 40 units. Hell, just make it an option you can turn on or off at the start of a campaign. So using the greenskins as an example, you could have a stack of a lord, 20 units of black orks, 5 goblins with spears/bows, a goblin big boss and a goblin shaman. It would really help with factions like the skaven that rely on overwhelming numbers in battle.

Sounds like a lot of hassle for very little gain. And the expendable thing is not really a trait, it's just a description to give players a idea of the role of the unit. Zombies and goblins are good meatshields and cheap, therefore expendable.

A better way is to make it a actual trait and treat it somehow similarly the way Skaven treats slaves on tabletop. If a unit with the Expendable trait routs, nearby units are not affected by it, preventing them from dragging down your overall morale.

I actually wish they'd go back to a more med-2 style of map. Where building farms and roads actually had an impact on your map, and the world felt so much more alive and bigger despite having far less "detail".

I get it, the corruption and purity stuff is a nice touch, but I just wished we could go back to the land actually looking like a farmed countryside instead of a miniature backyard with some trees and grass and a hamlet.

It can actually be worth it to be really aggressive early on to wipe out some of the weaker barbarians.

Otherwise you usually need to abandon Britain and concentrate on pacifying Italy and Spain before striking back.

Zombies are top tier siege units. Chances are you're going to be bringing in two armies to siege any important city from mid-game on.

You use the Zombombo army to do the sieging, their huge numbers makes making equipment faster. Behind them comes a more elite army, with monsters and Graveguard and whatnot.

The first wave is your Zambinos; a Necro lord and one or two heros will really come in handy with their multiple regeneration effects and the Raise Dead spell to outright replace fallen units. After your Zimbibies tie up all the ranged units on the walls, your second army can approach unmolested and break the enemy defense at your leisure. After the siege you may very well find your massive Zommmie casualties have given you a new corpse field to raise far more troops.

Because they're both shorter and more compact, they put more thought into a lot of the quests. Bretonnia and Empire wasn't always best buddies. There was even a time when Bretonnia was about to roll into Empire. But then GW moved on and left the brets behind.

Does anybody know why Rome 1 has really bad performance issues but Medieval 2 is totally fine on modern hardware? Reinstalled Rome 1 to mess around and wasn't expecting such low fps.

I love Total War. I really do.

But I'm shite at the campaign which is half the fucking fun of the game. I just tried to play Rome II's campaing as House Julia, and it was going well.

But then when I try to take over one little territory to the north of Italy, the one-city barbarian fuck has his two allies join him. Okay, not that bad I thought. I was soon to think other wise.

Appearently these chucklefucks have two full-sized(ie, 20 unit) stacks goin on and fuck me over. I've lost half my cities because The Etruscan League swoops in and takes Neaopolis and I lose all the cities north of italy to Nori.

And I was palying on easy.

Fuck me and my dumbass.
