I think the two will perform close enough to each other that you can get by playing what you like and still comfortably keep your spot doing whatever it is you like to do. The final decision for me to main MM was the fact that it didn't have to put up with the bullshit pet AI.

BM's artifact comes online really early (once it picks up the Hati BW/BC trait, which is inside the first 13 points which are incredibly cheap) compared to the deeper investment needed for MM to truly shine.

Ergo, I'll probably level BM since my gear going into legion is pretty shit, put 13 traits into it, then start dumping everything I've got into the MM artifact while gearing up in mythic+ dungeons as BM and hard-swap to full time MM when I can start performing better with it.
