It amazes me how Firaxis still hasn't figured out how to have improvements or wonders that create indentations in the map terrain. Quarries and Petra are still above ground!

tall: few cities with high population and basically every building you can get
wide: the opposite, many small cities with only essential buildings AKA happiness and gold producing ones (you can however branch out after building those and build whatever you want as long as you have the cash)
>>

I still don't have any idea why Petra gives food or production

i think the idea that it is a trading hub allows the locals to import food or something

Literally no reason to go wide in 5 desu. You never build more than 4-6 cities anyway because you simply dont need more.

Genuinely hyped for VI now despite the absolute memery of the leader and civ reveals, mods can fix that shite. The base mechanics and general aesthetics are looking very nice, I've got that mad hope that this will actually ship as a relatively stable and complete base package.

another example is DMC 2 -> 3 -> 4. 2 is considered to be the worst in the series, and as a result, 3 sold like ripe ass. In turn, 3 is considered the best in the series, so 4 sold more than any of the other games
>>
>>152140290
>>
>>152338810
>>152338881
Herein lies the problem with NMS.
It sold entirely upfront, but was such a letdown after the fact that further sales will nearly halt until significant improvements are made and the price gets cut.

By comparison had they adopted a more conservative strategy sure the upfront sales would have been less, but it wouldn't have alienated and polarized the fanbase to such a point that people are saying "don't buy it."
>>
>>152339467
Every Civ series sells well. the only way they can fuck it up is if they indulge in too much politically correct leader pandering, or if they shit all over the long standing fanbase.

Basically lead developer says all this shit is in the game and you can do this
Never corrects people who say the game is something it isn't, increasing the hype
When the game finally releases not only is none of what he said was in the game, in the game, but it was an unoptimized unstable piece of shit being sold for a full AAA price.

The drones say the players hyped it up. But as someone who only took his statements at face value, ignored external hype, and fully expected only a subnautica without base building in space, I was even disappointed by the release state.

It even turns out the planets he showcased were not procedurally generated as he said but handcrafted specifically for the demos.

The travesty about it was that he was given marching orders from sony to hype it to no end and forced them to sell it for $60. If it was released as an early access title for $20 the reception would have been a complete 180, a promising indie game that just needs further development.
>>

It's not just a wiki, anon, it's an archive of files the community has built up and used for almost 5 years now. Which, suddenly, some autistic megalomaniac named HPM thinks he owns the rights to delete shit from on a whim

Basically it's like if the OP of /4xg/ was taken over by a modder and he then used that OP position to spread only his mod and then slowly work other modders out of the community via ostracization and false flagging.

In this case I'm certain it was entirely Sony's marching order, so Sony just caring about initial sales and not giving a shit about the long term health of the game.

If you watch the videos you can kind of tell Sean was losing it near the end, but sony probably made him sign a contract telling him he had to hype it and couldn't do anything that would reduce the hype, until a few days before the PS4 launch when he tweeted IT'S NOT A MULTIPLAYER GAME, again probably sony's order to avoid false advertising claims.

It's died down, people have mostly come to terms with it being shit. It's remarkably not fun to shit on a game you wanted to be good when the drones defending it have given up because of the concrete evidence pointing out the lies.

All that's left is to have what fun you can by collecting cute ships.
>>
>>152340118
When I read how many planets its going to have (is it 2^64), I realized it won't be any good. What's the point in static seed, why is it even a thing? And it also means no changes would stay because no computer could have enough memory

Give me a planet generator that would give me 10 planets, but each interactive and well-simulated.
>>
>>152341835
The irony is it's not the planets that are the problem. In fact for the most part, the planets are all pretty decent.

If they could tweak the generation so that structures dont generate in weird places like off the ground, the planets would actually be one of the better parts of the game.
>>
>>152341962
I didn't look into NMS, but I can appreciate random generation that would create fun collisions. But to be fun, simulation is needed.

Right now I've got the impression that only fun thing to have is to look for phallic objects.

Content-wise, what >>152340118 said / linked. In short, it's a one-trick pony and once you've seen it's shallow repertoire it has nothing to offer. What hasn't been touched in-depth is the tons of performance / instability issues that plagued the game's launch.

Not only the PC "port" is unacceptable when it comes to general quality and atrocious performance-wise, the the game tend to crash on PS4 too. Meanwhile it looks like an early-2k title at best. Hell, they even managed to ship the game without working AA!

But that's just the tip of the iceberg - do you see this FPS numbers? Let's overlook that judging by the visuals, they should be the double w/ decent optimisation. But the fact that SLI configures perform the same (!) or (like FuryX) worse (!!) than one-card counterparts ...

Let it sink for a while: sub-par FPS values and stuttering / crashing issues even on high-end cards, and occasionally negative performance "gain" with two of them. Not to mention frametime performance reviews, which also proved that the game is simply a trainwreck.

Not that surprisingly, the devs even lied in the official system reqs: the minimum VGA only supports OpenGL 4.2, meanwhile it turned out you need 4.5 to be able to run it ... Same goes for CPUs not supporting SSE4.x by default, you can't even start the game on them.

>>152340359
Gaming industry 1×1: AAA devs are not making games for the players but the stakeholders / owners. He who pays the piper calls the tune. Don't get me wrong, NMS in it's current state would have failed horribly even if a $20 indie title - but that wouldn't have caused such shitstorm.

Sony is the biggest winner here: they only provided marketing in exchange for switching to PS4. Since they didn't intervene in the development, their hands are clean. Sean must have had his ass raped by the Suit&Tie Department (see>>152340612), then he did the same with customers.
>>
>>152343369
So, any good game taking place in space? Freelancer doesn't really run on recent PC, the X games are too complex, and Rebel Galaxy is kinda fun but too shallow.
>>

>the X games

oh wow, thanks for reminding me those exist. I tried to learn them a while back but I didn't understand when it actually became /fun/. Especially since you can put your freighter on autopilot and have it trade for you.

>The collectors edition literally had a sticker covering up the rating and "on-line" box with "single player"

I edited this like a week ago (from Anon's pics). You know what's funny? Two streamer actually found each other right after the release, which obviously had an incredibly small chance. And (surprise!) they didn't see each other. At all. What Sean said to this? Server error. Congratz.

>>152343458
It's no coincidence NSM was so hyped and Star Citizen got tons of financial support: there's a gap in the market and seems like nobody can fill it correctly. Even Elite Dangerous kind of failed. I'm afraid you have to wait and see how Star Citizen turns out.

Space Pirates and Zombies is pretty decent and the second game is looking pretty good so far
Also Master of Orion, Star Ruler 2, Sword of the Stars and Endless Space to name some strategy games in space
>>
>>152343978
SPAZ is fun but a little repetitive, and it quickly boils down to "spam the same ships until you win". Strategy is too limited and there are no enough choices in weapons.

Tried these, They meh for various reasons.
>>

The last space game I had fun with was Sins of a Solar Empire, and even then it was only briefly.
Once you realise the game is "throw your fleet at the enemy fleet and that's it", it loses its lustre.

Early access will be barebones like Stellaris and the other Amplitude launches. Unlike Paradox, Amplitude will add much more content much faster and make a fun game that does not require you selling your firstborn into slavery to get all the content.

New major faction revealed:
TL:DR happy merchants IN SPESS

>The Lumeris are a society that revolves around trade, economic deals, economic growth, and doing business. Expansion and acquisition are the bywords of their culture, and as an amphibious people they are prepared to make money in any environment. Their society is organized around a series of families that have traditionally run different parts of their economy, and the balance of power and negotiations between the families is what drives progress - or blocks it.

>The Lumeris faction is also known as the Four Families as these four power blocs have been running the society from the shadows for many years. Traditional alignments are the Meos family running farms and agricultural products, the Omokar handling construction and union issues, the Lancellum building ships and ports, and the Arrakyo dealing in politics and legislation. The current leader is Jenestra Omalfi'Meos, voted by the Four Families. While infighting and backstabbing occur on a regular base in the interest of vengeance or profits, there is a consensus that the families must coordinate to take on the really big opportunity that is the galaxy.

>Jenes, an atoll planet full of tropical islands and tropical storms, is the home of the Lumeris civilization and the home base of the Four Families that rule it from behind the scenes. Their oceanic environment necessitated the ability to adapt to the water, yet the need to create fire and build advanced technologies drove them to the land. From there they are now challenging the heavens themselves, bringing their unique style of economic development to an unsuspecting galaxy.

>The Lumerian Federal Anocracy

>Lumeris society has long been organized around families, clans, and dynasties - a natural outgrowth of the multinational, island-based history of their society. In the modern world this means that governments cannot stay in power without the support of the various families who have traditionally controlled different sectors of the economy and the lesser families that are part of their power structure. As a result, despite the growth and evolution of their civilization, family and lineage remains a strong pillar of their culture.

>With the aristocracy a distant memory and no dramatic religious fervor driving its populace, economic status is the only major legacy to be left for one's descendants. As a result Lumeris society revolves around trade; one seeks their career and passion in life in the interest of securing wealth for the future of their family and to improve one's standing within it.

There is no AI storytelling, so procedural world will always be samey. What it should focus on (and what is somewhat related) is simulation. Strange emergent simulated events is the shit. Or it might turn itself into a roguelike, but roguelike is different beast.

Well yeah, but it doesn't change the fact that they still called themselves the Roman Empire, and their leader Emperor of the Romans. While it's accurate to display the HRE as German ( at least after the Franks mostly left), they were still a pretty distinct political entity, separate from that of Germany. It's the same as trying to call the Byzzies Greek, they'd get pretty pissed about it. Even if they all spoke Greek, practiced Greek customs, and lived in the area historically considered Greek, they were Romans dammit and don't you forget it!

The HRE in my eyes was always Germanic in origin and by the time the Franks left more or less just German period. >>
>>152364164
I think it's more of a matter of self perspective, if you asked some one who lived in the HRE, particularly in that time before the various nobles gained most of the power, what they were, they'd probably tell you that they were German citizens of the Roman Empire. Their German identity didn't conflict with their Roman one, but for the Emperor the distinction of being Roman was an important one from a political standpoint. It denoted a legal lineage, as well as prestige, and certain rights owed to him. So it was very important to make sure that everyone knew that the HRE was a "Roman" empire and not just a German one. It's why the HRE and the ERE had so much bad blood between them, they both were making claim to the same lineage, regardless of how much they resembled the Roman Empire of old. It's also why the diplomatic correspondence between Holy Roman Emperors and Byzantine Emperors is so hilarious to read.

>>
>>152365982
That's a pretty arbitrary distinction. The fact of the matter is that the Franks spoke a dialect of German that would've be mutually intelligible to other Germans of the time, and they shared a large number of customs and beliefs with them. They were always German, they just transitioned to being less so over time, similar to the Angles, Saxon, Lombards, and Dutch. they're not German now, but they were back then.

Germans (German: Deutsche) are a Germanic ethnic group native to Central Europe,[3] who share a common German ancestry, culture and history. German is the shared mother tongue of a substantial majority of ethnic Germans.

The English term Germans has historically referred to the German-speaking population of the Holy Roman Empire since the Late Middle Ages.[4] Before the collapse of communism and the reunification of Germany in 1990, Germans constituted the largest divided nation in Europe by far.[5][6][note 2] Ever since the outbreak of the Protestant Reformation within the Holy Roman Empire, German society has been characterized by a Catholic-Protestant divide.[7]

Please be less stupid. Germans were calling themselves German long before the English were. Though maybe not, considering even Old English had a term for refering to German and they land they lived in collectively, being þēodisc and Þēodiscland respectively, which interestingly come from the proto-germanic "þeudo" for people or nation, which is also the root of Deutsch. So I guess the idea of a common German people is older than I though, also interesting for anyone who claims that the Angles and Saxons didn't think of themselves as German before they found their English identity.

Most of the German tribes were named after some aspect of their society or a tool that was common in their life. For the tribes I mentioned their names would be: The Freemen"Franks", The Swords "Saxons", The Anglers or Narrows (there's some debate over the origin here)"Anlges", The All-men "Alamans", The People "Suebi" (from proto-germanic swebaz), The Gotlanders "Goths", The Longbeards "Lombards", The Curly-Haired "Frisians", and the Highlanders "Burgundians" (that ones probably older than even proto-germanic though).

Posting some advice somebody else gave to me.

Start with missiles.
Research space torpedos as soon as you get the opportunity
Run torpedos in every weapons slot on every ship until you get particle lances, at which point switch to lances + torpedos.
For defence, just run a 1:1 mix of shields and armour. Maybe put one point defence gun on there when you get to cruisers and battleships.

As for ship contents I'd say its really just what you're willing to loose until you get to the point where you can wipe out a fleet before they even get their guns in range, you shouldn't feel like you absolutely need battleships, a while ago I was able to beat an AI alliance that had several battleships and lots of cruisers while I just used destroyers, didn't even take that bad of casualties and what ships I did lose I was able to replace with destroyer assembly yards in all 5 of my core planets which let me just shit out 25 new destroyers every 380 or so days.

As the faggot who wrote that original set of instructions, lances' advantage is that they are instantaneous (and, I guess, immune to PD, but more importantly, instantaneous).
A lance that does 300 damage is much better than a torpedo that does 500 damage, because there's no latency and none of that "Fire 500 torpedos and 450 of them are useless because the target explodes in the first 10th of the barrage".

You could just go all lances. Torpedoes are immune to PD for some reason, by the way.

But if something hit shields, it seems more logical to have everything contribute to shield drainage, or none. This is another flaw, I think, in most games with shield bypass you are usually supposed to target shield generator, clearing way for actual damage dealers, but here it IS damage dealer.

There's usually a couple of ringworld systems in every galaxy, but they're usually the capital worlds of Fallen empires, so you have no chance of ever actually being able to get to them before lategame.
Sanctuary is an "abandoned" ringworld where the Fallen Empire has fucked off, so it's open season and whoever conquers it first gets literally the best system in the game.

Any good advice on opening moves in Civ 5? Even in lower difficulty settings I feel like the AI is moving way too fast compared to me. They spread out their cities and have armies up and running way before I do. It always feels like I'm short on money, production and pretty much everything. Go tradition.Tech pottery first then tech to get your local luxuries online, from there you usually want to get writing then unlock horses and iron. Your first builds should ideally be two scouts then a shrine. If you have a lot of growth tiles on your start you should try and get your first settler out at 4-5 pop if not then aim for the first settler to be out on 3-4pop.

Don't build your early workers unless there's nothing else to do (like being stuck on a tiny island because rng said fuck you), steal them from nearby city states instead around turn 30ish.

While scouting early with your two scouts constantly asses locations for cities, a lux you don't have and growth tiles are what you're looking for, and always expand try to further away than closer, its easier to backfill land than it is to have to conquer lands the AI settled on.

And as >>152398918 says the AI cheats like crazy, steadily cheating more and more the further over prince you go.

>>
>>152401353
Tourism is the culture victory, culture is still used to get social policies but it's also measured against enemy civs tourism and acts as your defense against a tourism victory. To win a culture victory now you have to become influential over a civs culture with your tourism.

Religion is gained through faith, first you get a pantheon, which is why you build the shrine early. Then later once you've accumulated enough faith a great prophet spawns and you can found a religion, only so many religions can be founded so not everyone will get one, and some beliefs are super powerful so getting first pick of them is important since each belief is exclusive and can't be picked again.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R42Xtr2Vfww
That guy does an excellent job of explaining the in depth bits of religion but overall remember that Tithes and Pagodas are probably the two strongest and most contested picks.

Great works of art/writing/music provide tourism and culture and theming bonuses are things certain wonders provide for having great works of specific types there. Thats managed in a menu somewhere in the tourism stuff I don't do culture victories much. It's generally stuff like great works from the same era and same civ, great works from different civs and eras, great works from the same civ but different eras you get the idea. They're kinda pointless if you're not france though since late game you get buildings and techs that convert some of your culture output into tourism.

Religions and culture victories mix btw since having a shared religion provides a bonus to your tourism output to that civ, as does open borders, shared ideologies and having a trade route run between your civs.

What are the big differences between Civ IV and Civ V? From what I've gathered, the differences are mostly.

Civ V:
>Tourism mechanic
Hex-grid
>No doomstack
>Diplomacy is lolrandumb

Civ V:
>Square grid
>Doomstacks that make military efforts pointless (just build a doomstack and steamroll everything in your way)
>Diplomacy makes sense, play your cards right and a certain civ can be your ally for most if not all of the game
>Complex civics system
>>
>>152410148
my main problem is civIV the civs act in ways that make sense and you could have good allies who would stick with you though anything, in civV they attempt to emulate players by going for victory conditions explicitly and you couldn't really buddy buddy with any of them
>>
>See CIV VI stuff
>Makes me want to play Civ V
>15 player large tectonic map script with 20 city states
>emperor difficulty
>Second to pick an ideology, order is taken so i go freedumbs
>doing good but 3rd in the rankings in 1912
>Everyone else has gone order
>all 15 other nations declare war.

I didn't know if I'd be able to survive because it has been so long since I've played the game, but I managed to rebuild all my trade but with city states and used the freedom ideology to lock down 8 city states as core allies. ended up winning the war with both armies, culture and in the end diplomacy by liberating all the city states.

Any good mods though? The only ones i have are for speeding up gameplay like quick turns and faster aircraft animations, info addict and tectonic map creation. I don't know about good tweak mods.

Apart from the millions of people who were moved by deportation, colonists, refugees, people taken as slaves, gradual movement by trading, pilgrims, soldiers left behind, sailors left behind etc.

basically you're talking shit. just because in many feudal societies most farmers and peastantry did not often move around freely does not mean that in many different cultures people did not

late reply but whatever, blow me.
so, judging from skimming through that gameplay:

- Quest system from EL has been integrated.

- Ground battles actually exist, with mechanics roughly equating ES1's card system regarding how they are carried out. Systems can be outright surrendered now, allowing later liberation. Whether their mechanics are more than 'play card, RNG, win ?' is to be seen.

- Internal governance has had a total overhaul with the addition of Laws, Elections, Population Census.
It seems now you can have a very direct influence on how your empire operates internally instead of only directing facility construction on colonies and fleets. There's no guarantee it'll matter or not be a pain in the ass when things don't go your way.

- The 'tactical card system' is gone from space combat.
Probably anyways, it wasn't clear because the two fucktards on the couch were more interested in being obnoxious than learning the mechanics and asking for details.

I couldn't tell if there was anything new in the research department. Same with diplomacy, but if they add the deal balance from EL it should be easier to gauge what the bot wants. Unfortunately it won't stop random war decs and cold wars because the AI will always be stupid.

The over/population information for planets looked like a micromanagement nightmare, even at first glance. Assuming this is something that must be controlled but I wasn't going to listen to the high-pitched couchbeard shriek to get clearer details.

It looks like an actual sequel in development with new features and improvements. ES2 appears graphically superior on a jittery ~640p recording but as long as it looks even slightly better than ES1 it is leagues ahead.

my personal thoughts as a fag that founded ES, EL, and DoTE I'm looking forward to it and I'll probably get it in Early Access. if its shit, I'll be sure to complain here and their forums.

So its 2055. Governments have been bought out by global corporations or lobby lawmaking to the point where there's no distinction anymore. Humanity has a distinct working class, and everyone else. Automation is at its highest for the most menial labour. People have a hard time finding things to do with unlimited free time as most people as unemployable. It is not a utopia, but its good enough for now.

The major employment is in resource excavation, and of course space exploration. With ambition just waiting in reserve, humanity starts on its long trek into colonizing the stars.

Turned off Political Bonuses because tutorial said 'hey turn off the thing if you're new' and I'm a believer in meritocracy even if its impossible.
Normal difficulty because I'm new but I'm not a pussy.
I decreased the maximum gravity deviation to 70% from 90 because we physiologically require gravity to work properly, so I wanted to trim up the requirement a bit.
I left the starting pop at 500m since increasing it to a realistic Earth population gives you on the order of ~150 research facilities, 40 shipyards and 1.8 million tech points which is a TINY BIT overkill.
I also turned off Tyranids I mean Star Swarm because I lied I'm a little bit of a pussy.

Oops. Just did the old reload and turned that back on

Humanity looks like its doing alright. Plenty of workers available, production and shit is all at 100% efficiency. Lots of fuel and maintenance supply available, with a generous 20 research labs. I have no idea what to do with 420 dank construction factories but I'll figure something out.

Shipyards are somewhat weak for the navy, however. I'll have to build a second to plan ahead for having multiple classes of ships at my disposal.

Five smart people? Rad. Too bad two of them are Bio/Gen. Gives me an excuse to research Terraforming for Mars though. Obviously going to handle the 120k RP myself but I'll updoot that when I get it sorted.

All minerals have at least a decade on the clock before depletion but I should be looking into getting fresh Uridium and Gallicite deposits.

I have no idea what else to take pictures of that's relevant to starting a new game so I'll just get right on handling research and leader assignment.

I have assigned a bunch of folks positions that are probably? in line with their bonuses. Wound up with Conor Hope as Earth Governor which is an excellent name for the position.

apparently, yes, you need to use SM to use Starting RP if you have automagic allocation disabled. I've elected to take:
- Asteroid Mining Module, Sorium Harvester, Expanded Civvie Economy by 20%, Shipyard Ops 5% time/cost reduction.
- 12cm and 15cm Laser, Turret Tracking Speed 2km/s and 3km/s, Visible Light Laser (aw yis motha fuckin LASERS).
- Construction Brigade, Engineering Section Small, Fuel Storage Large and Tiny, Brigade HQ, Maintenance Mod, Orbital Hab Mod.
- Capacitor Recharge 2 and 4, Fuel Consumption 0.9 and .8, Pebble Bed Reactor, Nuclear Pulse Engine.
- FC Speed Rating 2km/s and 3km/s, Beam FC Range 16k km.
I have no idea if that's appropriate for a corporate humanity but its what I'm going with.

I'm gonna take the opportunity while I have RP left to make some modules and a ship or two before spending the rest on research.

I made really shitty missiles. Now I know how the process works at least.

Made a bunch of ship modules, made a shippy too.
I took a couple more researches since I have so much RP leftover. 240 research rate, 5% colony cost reduction, Troop Transport Bay, Missile Agility 32/MSP, ML reload rate 2, Implosion Fission Warhead, Improved Geo Sensors, and with 3093 left I took Beam FC Range 24k because I'm lazy and math is hard at 8am.
Naturally half of that made the modules I designed are now obsolete. Go figure.

Don't go to war unless you have at least 1K fleet power - it's pointless, you won't be able to take down their spaceports and blockade the planets. Maybe try to lure them into attacking your spaceport and bring your fleet on them, avoid going the other way around.

Overall, build ships with best tech, as many as possible. Right now there's no tactics but pitched battles.

this is ora ora ora's research tab. At the top under the cutoff tabs are my total research facilities, and how many research points generated per facility.

then the projects I have, the smart person assigned to it with their bonus appended after their name. some nerds bonus certain fields and quadruple research point output if its same field.

then some other bullshit with how many labs in the project out of how many that person can manage, expected smart output per year and how much is required to complete, expected completion date and whether it is paused or not.

Haeg. looks similar in that you assign research and it completes as quickly as you have output over time. most 4x games do this, for example Space Empires 5 likely works the same as Haeg. in that you build research centers on planets which generate points for you to spend on techs to research. You can research as many things as you wish to spend points on though so its more like oraora in that regard.

unrelated I didn't know Cruithne was a thing until about four minutes ago zooming in on Earth.
>>

Which goes to show how fucking worthless "same species" is as a designation. If I say I'm getting a dog, does that tell you anything? How big/small? Friendly, territorial, aggressive? How intelligent it will be? Is it suited for a temperate/warm/cold climate?

"Species" if defined by "viable offspring" is a designation that tells you nothing.

Think of the Scythians as the precursors to the Huns. Back in the days when Rome was a getting ready for the big game and Alexander's Generals were bashing each other over the head for the scraps of his empire, the Scythians were the big nomadic horse archer confederation in the Eurasian steppe. They basically ruled the area around Ukraine and Kazakhstan until the Huns displaced them.

I want to play a Civ V game as France. Becauseits special ability favors a cultural victory, my game plan will be something as follows.

>Early game (until Renaissance)
>Primary focus is conquest, culture a secondary focus
>Remain in this stage until the musketeers become outdated (IMHO they're too good to not use, so not using them would be a waste)

>Late game (industrial and later)
>Maintain an army for defensive purposes only
>Pursue a policy of peace with all nations
>Focus entirely on culture

What should my game plan be if I want to do this? Should I try founding a religion or disregard religion altogether? What social policies are good for this? What wonders are must-haves?

Sorry for being such a newfag, but my plan is basically combining two victory conditions.
>>
>>152469117
>Primary focus is conquest, culture a secondary focus
Having more cities will affect your culture for bad, though I guess you can make up for that with your chateaus. Also if you warmonger too much, your warmonger penalty might not go away by the time you want to be peaceful

Religion is pretty useful for tourism victory, but as France you shouldn't need it if you manage to get most of tourism wonders. Imo if you get a good pantheon start, try to find a religion. If not just ignore it

Tradition-Asceticism-Exploration's Opener for Louvre(Best tourism wonder)-Rationalism-Freedom obviously. As France you should have the culture for this

Wonders are dependent on your start, your neighbours, difficulty etc so it's hard to say for sure. If you get a really good production start you can aim for Great Library - Mausoleum of Halicarnassus(In culture victory you'll be creating lots of GPs, this helps a lot) - Temple of Artemis in the early game, if you can't get all of them just try to snipe the one that you think will be most useful for you. And you can figure out the rest I guess

Yeah that screenshot is like two turns old. The guy and I have been playing today.

I extended my road towards London. I'm moving heavy artillery into range to blast down his resources and eventually London itself.

But I also need to move my air cover up, I've gone past my fighter range. Honestly I don't have enough engineers/points to keep up. I need to build a few new airbases, upgrade some oil wells, etc etc and I just don't have enough.

But he's hurting much worse, I know that. I've broken through on two fronts now.

Artillery rules the day, because I don't have much oil, so my tanks mostly sit around. He actually has more artillery than me, or he did, but he spread his out along the line while I concentrated mine.

AOE3's saving grace is the beautiful graphics and solid gameplay, but as an age of empires game it does not stand up in any way shape or form. It's a major departure from previous aoe and they went with a more empire-earth-rise-of-nations kind of feel. Not to mention hatever the fuck they had going on with their idea of skirmish battles and the user profile levelling up... all without random maps so you can only play skirmish on 10 maps.

aoe 2 only had infinite food, but not really, because you constantly had to replenish farms with wood. aoe 3 has not only completely infinite food, but also completely infinite gold. and in aoe 3 you rarely use wood for making units anyways. this means that it just devolves into a fucking blob v blob fest because you have no real reason to bother preserving your units, especially since most travel times for bullets are instant, so micro is worthless. completely infinite gold totally unbalances whatever economy is in the game, especially when you can get it from plantations very quickly, and since units dont have to deposit resources, you can just fucking wall them up and never deal with raids. cards are a nice idea, very poorly implemented. and yea, the rest of the stuff is nice, but as a whole, aoe 2 is better if you want to be slightly serious about it.
