Forester Bob Edition

Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.

The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 2800 units, 800 spells and 300 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them.

It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.

Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

>Even UW is better.
You have the best research in the game, every research mage can become a combat mage, and your troops are decent too.

Sauro may not be a strong nation, but I can definitely think of nations in EA which are worse.

Also, some new graphs by popular request. Abysia has managed to overtake Sauro in gem income, as they apparently found some new magic sites in Lankaland. Including Lanka.

Now that the issue with the graphs is fixed after some technical difficulties (that dumb bitch Basalt Queen I just hired fucking everything up. Really wanted a king, but they all just haaaaaaad to refuse to work for me) here's research.

Sauro's spiked again, presumably having finished up with most of Helheim. Everyone else continues to lag behind.

This graph appears to be missing squids. Please fix tia
>>
>>152326030
Okay, see the Research graph. Notice where Sauro is in relation to the top of the graph. Assuming Sauro is #1 in research (which is very likely, no matter how big squids are, cause Sauro) that should be about the locality of the top nation in graph location - that 4th graying bar.
Put squids there for gem income. It isn't hard to figure out a top nation's spot on the graphs, cause #1 always goes into the 4th gray bar slot, right at the bottom. This is also how we can be certain Sauro is winning research, even vs the squids (or, at best, squids are tying).
>>
>>152325976
Why are the UW graphs hidden? I wonder, is it so we don't know if they go to war?
>>
>>152326384
This is more an issue. Because Sauro is actually occupying the top spot currently, its fucking impossible to tell where the squids are other than "not more than Sauro".
>>
>>152326406
So if that's always how it scales, then squids have almost double the gem income of the second place and an indeterminate amount of research?
>>
>>152326406
So what you're saying is squids have 2x the gem income of the next highest person?

That's terrifying.
>>

>>152326578
Abysia - Top of 13th bar
Squids - Top of 20th bar (or bottom of 21st, close enough)

Cap sites at the current scaling seem to be just under a bar and a half roughly. Give or take, pita to eyeball. Which means a bar and a half = 7 gems, or each bar = 4.666 gems.
Or: R'lyeh gem income - roughly 93 gems
Abysia gem income - roughly 60 gems
Sauro gem income - roughly 51 gems

How close am I senpais?

If a coalition vs EA squids starts, I'm going to call myself the winner of the meme war.

Daily reminder that All Yesterdays Squids were just as big and powerful as I am now, but still couldn't stop Agartha (a nation that can win games) from winning. Also, voice of tiamat helps so much with the gems.
And yeah, yeah, summod. But I respect the world enough to assume that they're not spooked about Polypal spawn on land.

That said, if you're not next to one of the great land threats, and go against me, I won't hold it against you much. But please don't let real nations snowball chasing after R'lyeh.

Especially when you hide behind the name of anon yourself. Full Research graph posted, because apparently sherlock fucking holmes happened to be around.
>>
>>152327661
Ah, guess I was way fucking off then. If you're at a little over 30, that would put squids at a little under 60 most likely instead of 90ish.
>>
>>152328003
Ayup, assuming "a little over 30" means 32, that would put R'lyeh at roughly 58 gems per turn.
>>
>>152327878
>But I respect the world enough to assume that they're not spooked about Polypal spawn on land.
Less that, more mass aboleths on land due to ease of access to air breathing items. A shitload of big astral mages is actually reasonably scary.
>>
>>152328132
Can't those just get magic dueled? I mean, if it's vs Sauro and what not.
>>
>>152328106
not that low, 35 gems yo, mostly astral and death. I am trading for Fire gems btw, if anyone wants to sell.
>>
>>152327878
So what I'm gathering is Agartha, Ulm, Pan, Ur, and anyone else around the area should shank Sauro really fucking fast.

>>152328367
Magic duel is good against mages that have astral as a subpath.

Got updated graphs, Chimori hasn't taken a dent. I see several players that haven't committed their all, and that's not how you're supposed to play. There isn't time for reaching key research targets or combining your armies into a deathblob, just go with everything you've got NOW and worry about the rest later, because at this point Chimori's victory is most likely delayed their ability to claim thrones rather than to capture the provinces they're in and players currently fighting them are faltering so instead of 3vs1, you'll soon fight yourself with 1vs1 against 20 provinces larger Chimori.

Does Chaos Power(1) scale past 3? As in, say I have 3 turmoil and 75 unrest, does that cap out at +3 for my troops or will that result in +6? If it does not cap out, when does it cap out? Can it just keep going? If I recall correctly, unrest does not cap out at 100.

This way isn't meme enough
>>
>>152345157
>that anon talking about making a scaleable spells mod

That's me, actively working on it, but Illwinter isn't making it easy. For example if I wanted a fireball to gain +1AoE per path level, it would go 2->3->4... which is a huge boost to it even at the standard level 2.
Basically the way it works is you get increment per level, and it counts the required levels. So for a flare a mage with F3 gets increment*3, instead of doing the more logical where the required path is the starting point and a F3 mage would get increment*0, a F4 increment*1, etc.

The idea was to make spells scale but it looks like I'll have to make higher path level variants (e.g. greater fireball with path req F5) that then scale. Even then however this example would mean the fireball would have a minimum AoE of 5. Shit's hard enough to balance already without the commands being arse.
>>
>Hi. On trying to host Ginnungagap just now, Dominions crashed. This is not a LlamaServer issue, but rather Dominions itself crashed with a "Nagot gick fel" type error. The specific error was:

>Något gick fel!
>Unknown req_512 ()

>These errors are normally caused by a (generally inexplicable) problem with one of the players' 2h files. Therefore the LlamaServer moved all your 2h files away before hosting again. This is why you will receive a new turn file in which you've staled.

>There are two options from here. Either you can treat the stale turn as a random event and carry on with the game, or you can roll back the turn and try to host again. If you try the latter your game admin will have to do the rollback via the admin options on the LlamaServer website, and you will all have to do your turns again. Note that in this case it is _really important_ that you actually do redo your turn, rather than just sending in the same one again (which people sometimes seem to do because they don't believe me). If you just send in the same file, hosting will simply fail again.

>I hope you manage to get the game back on course, whichever option you go for.

Ethereal being has 25% chance to be hit with normal damage. What does it make it with this trait, 10% or something?
>>
>>152349638
It means it's mundane, non-magical, 'normal' damage. Ethereality has 75% chance to negate it.
>>
>>152349447
Xibalba, probably.

Your national troops are still useful for raiding, but in any serious fight you don't need much more than ozelotl and mages.
>>
Easiest way to set up a blood economy? (both nation/units/pretender wise and strategy wise)
>>
>>152350884
the easiest way is to bloodhunt.
>>
>>152350884
Short answer: be a blood nation like Mictlan, Xib, Lanka, whatever else, recruit a ton of your cheap B1 mages, craft dowsing rods, summon/recruit some patrollers, get them all to ~6000+ provinces, and start reaping.

Pretender doesn't matter if you're playing a pure blood nation, as you'll have plenty of bloodhunters and depends on whether you want a bless/boosters/sitesearching/SC. Sometimes you want to get a specific endgame with your pretender like storm demons.

Long answer: it depends.
>>
>>152351085
Thanks man, i appreciate your help. Xibalba looks cool (batpeople and they are in every age), would they be fine? I see bats can't patrol well and their highest tier commander causes a fuckton of unrest. Also, i was thinking of an Imprisoned Pretender D8O3G3 B4A2 (Storm demons and nice scales), can it do?

Also, do i bloodhunt only in 6000+ provinces? Once it goes below that, do i keep raping or do i wait for the region to get populated again? Do i build forts on the most populated provinces? Any tips on mantaining and defending my blood network?
>>
>>152351468
Anything above 5000 works. Below that you get a penalty to bloodhunting, but too far above it means it's a high-income province which means bloodhunting will cost you more gold than it does in other provinces. Between 5000 and 8000 is ideal.

As for Xibalba, they're one of the most OP nations in the game (especially EA), so you should be fine.
>>
>>152351468
Patrol with indie commanders.
>>
>>152351468
Xib wants a hefty dual bless for their sacred summons and freespawn. Storm Demons are redundant due to having flying everything, and having arguably better sacred demon summons.
>>
>>152351468
>I see bats can't patrol well
That's actually not right, they're very good at patrolling. Even with the -1 penalty they patrol about as well as a standard human, and cost much less.

>their highest tier commander causes a fuckton of unrest
You want to bloodhunt with cheap B1 mages, not Onaqui.

>Also, do i bloodhunt only in 6000+ provinces?
5000+ is the number. You can bloodhunt in lower than that too, but I'd avoid lower than 3500-4000 unless you're desperate.

>Once it goes below that, do i keep raping or do i wait for the region to get populated again?
Population increases very slowly even with full growth scales, so you just switch to another province once you've bloodhunted one down past 5000.

>Do i build forts on the most populated provinces?
That's often a good idea, but not because of bloodhunting. Forts help protect your provinces, and you want your highest income provinces defended well. You generally don't want to bloodhunt your highest population provinces.

Well it's not with the Llama version of Magic Enhanced that is uploaded, I uploaded that one and using it for MemeFastStaleHard and that's working just fine.
>>
>>152354637

When I made my turn, it said that I lacked the enhanced magic mod, which the game thought should have been called something like magic_enhanced1.1proper.dm and ours were all called magic_enhanced1.1.dm

Talked to some other players in chat and we all just renamed our file to that.
>>
>>152349236
Get in chat, Mrs. Skeltal.
>>
>>152354872

Like I said in >>152354910 your version of magic_enhanced had a "proper" sufix on it. Are you sure you didn't use a self-modded version that was incorrect to the Llamaserver version?

I'm putting my gems on that is the problem.
>>
>>152355128
Oh right I remember that issue now, but the thing is Llama must have done that itself when it saw two identical .dm uploaded to it, because I never renamed my .dm. In fact I found out about the "proper" issue because it wouldn't accept the .dm I already had, which was the very same one I uploaded, hence I had to add the suffix as well. It might otherwise have been that it wouldn't accept a duplicate .dm so I had to rename it but while possible I have no recollection of that. In any case I'm a 100% sure the actual .dm isn't modded, though the filename alone seems to be enough to trigger Dom4 so it might be enough to cause issues.

In any case I should probably email Llama and ask him to remove that if it's causing issues.
>>
>>152354872
>>152354910
>>152355128
Unlikely to be the problem, when you try to load a turn with that it will tell you about the .dm name issue and not let you do anything. So if you submitted your turn, you renamed the .dm, and it seems to work in another game according to you, hence that mod is probably not at fault.

I could feasibly do both (cold 3 btw), but i'm new to the whole blood magic stuff, so i don't know wich demon is best mass-summoned, can ice-fiends go underwater? If so, i'd pick them to invade an underwater asshole friend of mine.
>>
>>152358687
Frost Fiends throw AoE cold. Use them in cold dominion, supported by cold-resistant melee troops.
Storm Demons are ethereal and throw AN lightning. They like having Storm support, obviously. Forge a Staff of Storms or have an A3+ mage with them.
>>
>>152358687
Also, Frost Fiend default sprite is fucking disgusting. If you really don't know what to choose, pick Storm Demons, since they don't look like shit.
>>
>>152358687
Storm Demons are generally better - ethereal to help mitigate their shit protection, lightning attacks ignore armor, and strong anywhere (especially with a storm up)

Frost fiends have cold auras, and AoE attacks.

Both are strong, though.

Can Abysia actually win or am i handicapping myself?
I'd like to play as an Archdevil who invades the world with masses of summoned demons, and drowns the world in blood and flame. However, i read it's kind of a one-trick pony, and that it kinda sucks.
Can i git gud with them and show the world demons rule? Or is there another nation based on blood summon spams which does everything better than Abysia?
>>
>>152346716
How about we just restart with the file named properly. My start was shit anyway.
>>
>>152360486
Oh wait nevermind got my games mixed up, I'm half asleep. I'm still fine with just restarting even though I'm on my favorite part of the map
>>
>>152360469
It depends.
EA Abysia has an absurdly good early game and THE single best expansion in the EA. They have a decent midgame and basically no late game unless you give them one through your pretender. Amazing in small games, but get worse the larger the map is.
MA Abysia has worse early game and expansion than EA, but a better midgame. Still no real lategame.
LA Abysia has the worst earlygame and expansion of the three ages, to the point of just being decent. However, they have a strong midgame and you don't have to work as hard to get them a lategame.
>>
>>152360930
What would a good late-game pretender be then? I I'll go Imprisoned no doubt, but i was thinking on focusing on scales, but if Abysia lacks late-game then i guess i need more magic paths, which spells would make Abysia at least average in the late-game? (and which points in magic do you reccommend for such a pretender).
>>
>>152361268
D5B4, maybe? On a chassis with full slots, of course. Lich Queen looks like the best possibility.

Primary purpose is to let you leverage your cap-only blood to break you into a proper blood economy via vampire lords. It also gives you access to tarts if you ever reach that point.

Fair warning, I've never tried this in a game.
>>
>>152351468
it should take a tons of turn for a 5500 province to go under 5000 if you do it right.

for long term sustainable and cheap blood hunting you go for 2 mages with B1 or B2 + sanguine dowsin rod and one commander( or any cheap commander unit) patrolling with 35 summoned wolves. the exact number of wolves depends on your scales and exact blood hunt power and probably game settings too, but remember that unrest won't go to exactly 0 each turn due to the high variance RNG of it and that's ok as long as it hits 0 once every few turns and is quite often under 10.
>>
>>152363517
Not only are you spreading unrest over tons of provinces (20 points of unrest is -30% income, which is a lot), you're not even preserving the population by letting the unrest decrease naturally.

Patrolling away your population isn't sustainable, nor is 30% of province income cheap.
>>
>>152365779
None of that matters when you get literally hundreds of slaves per turn to buy armies of zero-upkeep demons with.
>>
>>152365779
it's almost sustainable. if you have high free unrest decrease (order, dominion) you will eat population very slowly ( 100 pop every 5 turns or so).

what else do you suggest? turbohunting a big pop province?

>>
>>152370394
What nation are you playing?
>>
>>152370394
don't do it. it takes 2 turns to sitesearch one province which means that if you take it dormant you would still be sitesearching your "starting" 12 provinces when other imprisoned gods break out.It might be worth it for certain nations if you also get some crafting paths or use the god to cast a global.
can't you just use your mages + some summoned mages? what nation are you?
>>

So I'm assuming the crossover of players from MemeFastStaleHard (myself included) caused the crash because of the mod file renaming we had to do for that game.
What I assume will make both games work fine is only using the renamed version when doing my turns for MemeFastStaleHard, and switching back to the unaltered version for GinnungagapReturns and everything else.
I'm sure there are people here who know more about mods and errors so let me know if this sounds dumb or you have a better solution.

Does anyone know how to fix or work around a "sprnnumber too high for this file" error?

The problem occurs every time I click on my capital's army set up. It hasn't occurred in similarly mage heavy forts. The only mods running are Enhanced Heroes 5.5NN and Sum 0.61; every mod file was temporarily removed from the directory and the error persisted. This problem first occurred on this turn (Turn ~30) and this was after I had my mages forge approximately ~15 magic items in the previous turn.

>CoE5
>CoE now has provinces, but within provinces there are various landmarks that you need to individually conquer
>Recruiting and income are reworked to be more steady and less in bulk, so progression feels far more natural and losing your first expansion army doesn't cost you the game
>Amount of units gets scaled up to the point where one unit in CoE4 would be five units in CoE5, to make battles larger and thus less RNG dependent
>Combat stays largely the same, only you can now script mages
>You are guaranteed some class-income specific buildings in your starting province
>>
>>152413653
Coe4 needs to be more interactive and faster paced. The monsters are cool and the idea of using lots of thematic national monsters for the army is something Dom4 could maybe use more of, but it's too simple to be engaging for more than a few games.

I posted a while back about making a custom nation mod, I basically want to make a mod with a couple dozen nations of my own design for a (hopefully) RP heavy dominions game.

The problem. I can't balance for shit or play for shit t b h. So, domg permitting, I'll post a lore outline of a nation and domg can flash some numbers that aren't too ridiculous.

Or will I just get bullied for being a pleb?
>>
>>152423462
Post the nation mods, people can look at them and offer balance advice.

It seems all that air has gone to your head, sailor.

R'lyeh has saved Pelagia and Oceania from Atlantis' mad ambitions and the bottom dweller's abominable Living Pillars. Without their timely entrance, Atlantis would have rolled over our armies and seized everything before marching onto land with their grotesque amphibious horrors. For that, even you land dwellers should be thanking them instead of trying to stab them in the back.
>>
>>152435534
Shure. What do you have to say? Do you think that the interests of the coastal-jews and the squids could align?

Unless they're subbing in for each other that doesn't answer my question. A blitz goes for hours. Who's got 5 hours straight to play Dominions?
>>
>>152433186
I'm only using troops to patrol away potential assassins, since our company's crafters are not the best fighters.

So far there's no plans to go at war any time soon. I had no squabbles with Atlantis either, they never attacked me, so I'm not so sure about how much I was saved per say, but what happens between the other UW nations stays between them, Oceania shall remain neutral.
>>
>>152435573

So much this, lets be honest, if anyone had to get big under the waves be glad it was me and not Atlantis, whose amphibious troop loadout makes some land nation jealous.
I have no designs on striking UW. Currently I'm trying to save friend Fomoria from the ambitions of the vile Tir na Nog, as shown earlier on the thread. I'm also interested in stopping snowballing blood powers - even ghetto ones like Sauro - from, well, snowballing.

>>152435664
I'm supposing you're coastal jews? I just noticed you had a new visitor in Africa, and wanted your opinion on that.
>>
>>152436876
Yes, I consider myself the nation of coastal jews.

What do you mean by new visitor in Africa? The Bats in the canary islands will die soon and Abysia just seems to like holding those scraps on the edge without doing anything with them.
>>
>>152437007
I was referring to Abysia, whose number 2 on gem income (and keep in mind, blood income isn't reported, so that could be anything, especially with 75% site frequency amping hunts). Abysia is also relevant on other graphs as well.

Bats at this point has less influence on the game than AI Niefelheim.
>>
>>152437403
I haven't seen much of Abysia yet but C'tis tells me that he's doing well for himself thanks to his cave holdings. Definitely something to keep in mind but that's all for now. My most immediate concern is finishing off Machaka with C'tis cooperation and consolidating everything that I've got so far. And by consolidating I mean fort spam. It'll take longer than it should because I need to tear down Machaka's shit palisades and replace them with real fortifications.

Are thugs viable to take out independents, or should I just pimp assassins as they're the only one with a chance to be useful in combat?
>>
>>152445707
for 90% of the nations, for 90% of the builds thugs come way too late to take out indipendents. at turn 15 you are supposed to be left with only thrones to take.

depending on what is in the throne a weird thug might be viable.
for example a shock resistent thug might be able to kill most spring hawks into a T3 throne, even quite early.it's risky depending on the mages the throne hosts.
for them to take completely a throne you are probably talking quite late.
for nations with super heavy bless and encumbrance 0 commanders like ermor it might be possible to be able to thug out one province early on.
if you randomly find a frost brand with an elf-pony nation and have a decent bless you might take maybe one province with a thug, just when expansion is ending.

i always use assassins with a D1 skelespam trinket as Ctis. you should do it too, but unfortunately it takes a LOT of commanders turns to pull it off and by the time expansion is over you'll have captured maybe just 2 provinces this way. i do it for super hard provinces like all heavy cav and against SOME mages.

last time i tried to use assasins against a throne i was able to kill all but one good D2 mage and basically it was all fucking useless since the troops don't route if there is even just one commander.

there is an helmet that gives inspirational 2. that' useful.
armor or MR amulet makes commanders resilient to certain battlefield wide spells but sometimes it's better to just have multiple commanders in case one dies.
>>
>>152446779
I don't like rituals and I never use wizards in battles.
I'd rather empower my mound kings, they don't age.
>>
>>152446805

If you can get a shield on them, they even become crazier. Frost brands are also fantastic.

For Dominions 5 they should make is so that battles can take place in two different modes in both land and water.

Land : Ground Battles and Aerial Battles (when there's only air units)
Water : Underwater battles and ship battles ( when there's only land units, unaffected by UW debuffs)

I really just want to see implementation of actual ships.

Here's some rumors that are doing the rounds

>dom5 will have a new victory option, Planar Conquest, where you have to either take all the Elemental Thrones or the Seven Citadels of Hell. Each of the planes will exist from the start of the game and will affect and be affected in turn by the primary plane. Hades and Agratha will also exists as separate planes. It's tough to balance some things they want, for example they want to retain the Hades mirrors the prime aspect from CoE4, but the potential of nations with high death abusing spells like undead mastery on a plane with hundreds of thousands of undead is worrisome.

>dom5 will have mundane research and dynamic populations. Mundane research is self explanatory (better weapons etc) the populations thing is a tie in.you will be able to choose the loadouts for troops and the troops themselves will be area specific. So if you come across a province of icythids you can equip them with plate if.you have the research.

Ship battles are probably out of the question but ships could be implemented right now. I'd imagine it'd be something like a shape change that captain commanders could take. As LA Atlantis, how do you use the masses of Tungaliks you'll inevitably end up with? W1D1 is kind of a shitty combo, they can't really do shit without gems or boosters as far as I can tell.
>>
>>152453313
Use forgiving fathers as your primary battlemage.
>>
>>152453405
That's not what I'm asking. Forgiving Fathers are definitely cool, but you're still going to end up with a shitload of Tungaliks that have no real purpose beyond researching. It's even worse when you're on a map with little to no water provinces.
>>
>>152453313
Cheap W1's are great for underwaters wars. Water Power -> Encase in Ice. Use them to freeze R'lyeh's whole army.

Against undead, spam D2D.

Against bio, maybe Frighten spam.
>>
>>152453537
Sorry, you're right.

Short answer is that, yes, they need boosters or gems to be good on land.
>>

Frozen heart is probably the least shit choice for them.

Single target and short range isn't amazing, but it ignores armor so there's that at least.

Which is the most "ARCANE POWER" nation in the game? Something focused on researching big spells asap and fucking the world up from his comfy wizard tower would be great.

Berytos is a bit like that since they have very good magic and crappy troops. Also, I feel like Jotunheim is also slightly like that since a lot of their magic is evil in nature and they have really good research in M3.
>>
>>152457718
sauromatia marverni and arco can be played like that thanks to good research and stellar cascade spam.

if you are not focused on astral magic then EA/MA Caelum feels amazing: as soon as you hit conj 2, evocation 5( pls pass through construction 2 first for owl quills) you can just snap in ALL your mages and in 2 turns lead a 100% flying map move 3 storm+thunderstrike spam onto enemy capital. with short or no notice! should be able to attack on turn 19 or earlier if you want to do some mage-less raids to start shit up.

it's one of the hardest power peak avaible in the game. there is no fucking easy counter early game and a stack of 200 flying troops will break a fort pretty quickly.
the real counter would be to pre-summon lot of troops to counter your thunderstrikes. but that's not doable if you strike without notice and hit an enemy army or capital.

You probably have a folder like summod065d in mods directory which contains the dm file and summod directory, but in actuality you're ought to extract the files directly to the root mods directory

>Really good research in M3

Wouldn't that be true for every nation?
>>
>>152462116
Everyone has better research with M3 than without (all other scales being the same) but some nations can cheaply set up recruitment senters for weak mages and so M3 is much more impactful for Jotunheim/Sauromatia/LA Ulm and a couple other nations.
>>
>>152462116
It's especially true for jotun since they have 40 gold 5rp labrats that can be recruited in any forest province with a lab. There are other nations with cheap labrats (notably sauro, Ulm has recruit anywhere with labs illuminati) but they usually need forts on top. Hags are also pretty useful in general, except for the D1 ones.
>>
>>152462116
Nations with cheap mages (say, 35g Soothsayers) scale much more with magic scales than nations without cheap mages (say, Niefelheim, with their cheapest mage being 225g non-sacred) or nations that might not want to recruit their cheapest mages for whatever reason.
>>
>>152462116
Some nations are more affected. A nation with cheap research 6 mages gains a 50% boost to research with M3. If all your mages are expensive research 14+ mages, then the gain from M3 is smaller, relatively speaking.
>>
>>152462442
>>152462631
>>152462646
>>152463046
Well alright then, consider me educated.
>>
>>152462116
Also, getting M3 won't make Vanheim or Niefelheims research "really good" - gold scales, expansions and early wars are the only thing that will let you buy their expensive mages in sufficient quantities.

Continuing this train of thought, EA Tien'Chi has a shitton of paths if you want ALL THE GEMS.

Hierophantides are useful mostly just as troop leaders with minor magic support that can also research when not ferrying troops and because you can recruit them without a fort. The 'tides are better than the 'phants because E1 randoms are typically useful than W1 given your access to higher levels of E magic.

Centaur Hierophant(ide)s are very inefficient to begin with and you can't mobilize them to any useful task anyway should that ever be required, which I think is still a valuable characteristic for research mages. Dryads have an use as seducer-assassins but if I recall correctly, they're even more cost-inefficient. Honestly, I'd go with transformed Panii (+possibly any good indie researchers you might come across).

>>
>>152481317
What?

Why do you play SP on fucking Talis, you silly fool?
>>
>>152481414
Because I experiment to see what matchups are more efficients. Talis is extremely straightforward and allows easy doomstack vs doomstack.
>>
>>152481317
Those D2 guys are extremely easy to use in early/midgame. Just have them cast Horde of Skeletons all day erry day and you can stomp the AI with just that like 99% of the time and many player armies as well if you have enough of them (and preferably some support like Quagmire, Foul Vapours, Darkness, and any evocations you can hurl over the heads of the skellies).

Keeping them in reserve until the end of the game is a grave mistake (or it would be anyway, if it wasn't singleplayer or the AI wasn't retarded)
>>
>>152481850
But then how do I research stuff?

And yeah, keeping them was dumb, but spamming temples is too powerful against the AI. it doesn't know how to react to domkill.
>>
>>152482002
It doesn't know how to react to pretty much anything.

Also you research during wars. You don't just throw every mage you've got at the enemy unless it's a last stand kind of deal, you send out a significant group of them (what's "significant" depends on the mage and the enemy) while the rest of them stay at home to research/forge/do rituals and fend off any potential other threats.

>>152482002
The AI is retarded and literally doesn't know how to play the game. Killing it won't teach you anything, and especially won't teach you how to use proper mage support. The tactics you use to beat the AI cannot compete in multiplayer beyond the expansion phase.
>>

>implying I want to try multiplayer
No offense meant, but I see enough complains in this general about stallers, Ermor and Forester Bob to not want to.
>>
>>152482795
>But aren't you constantly at war???
Almost constnatly, yes. that's why you've got to balance your research with your warfare. If you're not using your mages to research, you're going to get behind, and if you don't use them to fight, you're going to get stomped by those who do. Of course none of that matters in singleplayer, but it's still an important concept.

>the C'tis don't really have good wizards, they mostly have priests.
C'tis has Sauromancers which are solid Death mages, they've got Reborn which are cheap skellyspammers, and they've got Shamans who are useful in communions (especially when you mix in S-random Sauromancers and/or Couatls).

You should be recruiting a mix of those every turn out of every fort as long as you're able to afford them. Lizard Kings are cool and you definitely want some of those, but they should definintely not be your focus, and the other two priests are highly situational at best and you'll often end up just ignoring them entirely.

>But aren't you constantly at war???
Well, not necessarily. If no one forces you into conflict, it can be advantageous and power up and bide your time for a more opportune moment to attack (when your neighbours have started fighting each other such that you can backstab them and take their provinces with ease) but that requires good understanding of your position: you really have to be gaining relative advantage from your inactivity (for example, being a small nation and passively sitting on your ass as the big boys with twice your income -> mages -> research get access to their best toys, is a losing proposition: it might be frightening to attack against a bigger opponent even if they are occupied elsewhere, but if you don't, you're going to lose GUARANTEED).

As for mage commitment, it's a huge case of "it depends". Most probably you want to get some of your nation's core tactics active (such as Quaggmire+Foul Vapours+Horde of Skeletons spam by MA C'tis or Fireball spam en masse by Abysia) before committing any mages unless you're fighting for your life and you absolutely have to but besides that, how much mages you want to use varies from none to committing your entire force.

Generally speaking you want to commit heavily enough to win decisively: claiming enemy territory as opposed to playing tug-of-war forever gives you extra income to recruit more mages and make up for the lost mage turns in the long term, but against much weaker nations you necessarily don't even have to commit mages (for example, Pangaea with just their typical W9 blessed centaurs can dispatch most enemies with ease during first 20 turns and their mages don't come online early anyway, Wooden Warriors+Maws of Earth at Alteration-5 is when they get good), or you can deploy all mages in one decisive battle and then send them back to research (mobile nations like Caelum do this very well, and Caelum specifically has an absurd power spike when they get access to Thunder Strike)

>>
>>152489442
I'm not sure why you think he's samefagging, but I don't think anyone in this general would argue that singleplayer Dominions is actually good for anything but testing stuff so you can then use it in multiplayer.
>>
>>152489707
Because I doubt there are more than one person in this thread unable to comprehend the basic idea of experimenting.
>>
>>152490058
Experimenting is fine, but that doesn't make singleplayer any good.

As I said, singleplayer is useful for experimenting and testing, but only within the context of multiplayer. If you refuse to play multiplayer, experimenting is pointless because basically anything works against the AI. You can pull shit that isn't even remotely viable and still win simply because the AI spent his cash on recruiting wolf tribe indies or whatever he happens to come across.

Case in point, you've apparently been winning all you games so far without actually using mages. That's like ignoring 80% of the game and still winning.

I'm not saying you shouldn't play the game you like it, if that's what you enjoy, but as I said nobody would argue that singleplayer Dominions is actually good. If that's what you want, you're better off with Conquest of Elysium 4, which is similar to Dom4 but much more singleplayer-friendly.

CoE4 is garbage SP too. Sorry. I played SP Dom4 longer and had more fun with it than I did with CoE3 and 4 combined. Maybe it's been too long since you first started playing Dominions, but it was actually kinda fun when I was figuring out how things worked and what spells did in SP games. CoE is and was always awful.

Curse is just a bonus chance to recieve afflictions when wounded.

Luck is a 50% chance to negate a lethal blow. "Lethal" means the one that would kill. For example, if a SC hits for 66 damage, and your mage only has 10 hp, luck has 50% chance to negate every blow. Wouldn't work for 9 damage though.

Blood Feast removes all/most afflictions from the unit casting it. Gift of Health gives a chance to remove afflictions from every friendly unit in your dominion every month.

Turmoil gives you more total events, luck gives you more total events plus a better chance of them being good events.

I'm fairly sure those scales don't effect events whatsoever but I might be wrong.
As far as I know, the only scales that effect event type and frequency are O/T, and L/M.
I believe you get different events based on the individual province stats.
There are also units with traits that effect events like fortune teller preventing bad ones.
I think there is a trait that increases good events but I don't remember what it's called or how it stacks with the other factors involved.

MAMemes don't look so good. If my (slowly dying) spies are correct, Ermor basically fended off 3 nations and took some territory from dying elves. And in WeWuzKangz BoT is up at turn 15 (which honestly makes skellies easier to remove).
>>
BoT rush is a terrible strat for Ermor. It takes your slow research and devotes it to magic that isn't your best combat path to let you dump your most valuable gems into a spell that inconveniences your enemies rather than helps you win, while at the same time ensuring that people have a stronger motivation to attack you. It's just a bad move.

When you find the site, it instantly creates a fortress in the province.
>>

Oh... well I started making a fortress before I discovered it. Will I get that money back or will I get a superfortress?

Or did I just waste my money?
>>
>>152517071
Not really.
Cat Charms will prevent Males from being seduced by Females.
Bearclaw Talisman will prevent Females from being seduced by Males.

Bearclaw will not allow Females to seduce Females.
Cat Talisman will not allow Males to seduce
Males.

Neither should increase the chance of a seduction.

Heart Companions are supposedly a special/gay case, but that's anecdotal.

>>152535813

think of it as an event that gives you a specialized time warp in that province. you still got a fort, just a couple turns earlier, allowing you to capitalize on increase revenue/resources in that province, plus can start churning out what you need that much earlier.

But yes, technically.
>>
>>152541326
Yeah I figured it out. It won't let me advance the original fort construction or build any upgrades for my fort now
>>
>>152541886

it's not a forest, so none of the fort upgrades are really really worth it. The increase in Admin Value rarely ever makes up for the cost.
>>
>>152542426
Really? I'm just playing slow and steady on SP, so I usually send a priest to build shit after my commander replenishes major losses and moves on. Is building up infrastructure on all my lands not worth it?
>>
>>152542787

Not really, no. I think the wiki breaks it down more, but Admin Value just adds a percent bonus to income in the province. So unless you had some ludicrous super high population farm province with a bunch of mines, you're going to have to wait 50-100 turns to start turning a "profit" on those fort upgrades. Factor in the upkeep cost of the commander who built the upgrade for those turns and the lost opportunity cost of that commander doing literally anything else, and it's just not worth it.

The sort of exception being Roads on forest forts, which allows one to avoid being slowed down in that province by the forest.

Added fort defence is only marginally useful, considering you're better off using the gold spent improving the fort instead on a shitton of soldiers/mages who can summon shit.

>Hi. On trying to host GinnungagapReturns just now, Dominions crashed.
