I saw Andrzej Sapkowski at a grocery store in Krakow yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person and congratulated him on the success of the Witcher franchise overseas, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be busy and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the snickers and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any RFID 'interference',” and then turned around and winked at me. After she scanned each candy bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by belching really loudly.

I own Witcher 1 and 2. I hear 3 is the really great one.

The Witcher 1 is the worst in the series but it's still great if you can get past a clunky opening. Two is only a little bit worse than three but is probably better written. Three is good but not leaps and bounds above two. It's just the one taht hit mainstream.

You will not appreciate TW3 as much if you haven't played the first two. Even then, you will not appreciate it fully unless you've played the first two AND read the books the series is based on. Of course that's a big investment already, and I know people hate to read now But none of this is necessary to have fun. Just to get the most out of it

Note that if you skip the books and the previous games and only play TW3 we can and will call you a massive casual faggot and make fun of you.

So I finished The Witcher after ~40 hours and boy, what a ride.
I was expecting it to be a meme game, but nah, once you pass the awkward beginning , learn how to play properly and get enough points to start building your character is pretty nice.
Combat is ok after that and even if it wasn't, signs are OP and you can cheat your way to the top.
Salamandra was stupid and a big cliche, buuut whatever. And Jacques had little screetime, like Eredin, which sucks, cause you know, you get attached to ''him''.

To be honest, I'm lucky this is not the first game of the saga I play cause fuck, otherwise I wouldn't give a shit about the characters.

By the way, what is wrong with the ''Wild Hunt''?
Seems like both, CDPR and Sap. had two different versions in mind.
The ''physical'' one and the ''spiritual'' one. Cause they first appear in the 4th (?) book, right? When Ciri goes to see Geralt, the Wild Hunt chases her, yet they are like a fog, as soon Geralt and Yen attacks them they disappear.

I don't know maybe I'm mixing things up...

Funnily enough I actually stumbled upon a bunch of those PoIs as I was exploring so when I later learned that they'd been part of a bigger quest, I got excited and expected some nice payoff. That's what I find baffling. I didn't expect them to surpass O'Dimm, but that didn't justify Dettlaff and Syanna being so shallow and poorly fleshed out. I think CDPR benefits from smaller scale projects. TW2, HoS and Baron's storyline are all shorter stories with a lot more impact and quality. All the busywork and world-building of open world takes away resources that could have otherwise been used for writing and scripting better C&C.

Yeah agreed. I don't hate the open world either and I thought TW2 was a bit too linear, but there has to be a line somewhere. The scope of TW1 was rather nice in that sense imo, the areas were spacious enough that it didn't feel cramped, but still small enough that exploration didn't become a chore. TW3 didn't need to be so big with all those PoIs, especially with the weak loot system. I'd much rather have more and better story.

For roleplaying purposes I really think only Cerys or Svanrigge are justified. True, but I meant from the more casual side. In the game, Geralt already had a history with Yennefer which the story also pushed. If you gave players a blank slate character and then presented a love interest like Yennefer, I think much less people would pick her and obsess over her.

I was thinking about the main game for newcomers, you first have to lock in her romance to get the waifu dialogue. But yeah, with the waifu patch and B&W dialogue she's definitely more palatable to waifufags now.

My memory of the Witcher 3 will forever be marred by it creating the Trissfag. It's almost as bad as the lack of EE. So much to talk about that was missed in its prime because the thread was shit up by Trissfags 24/7 for months.

Ok, here is why I like Triss. I appreciate Triss' flaws. Her insecurity, misplaced idealism and unfortunate obsession with Geralt make her a believable character and make me feel sympathetic for her. I felt sorry for her after reading the books, seeing how desperate she was for Geralt. Her internal monologues at KM, desperate attempts to kiss him while he helps her recover, the way Yen scolds her at Thanedd, her jealousy while Fringilla tells the Lodge about her relationship with Geralt all made me feel bad for her. I like finally giving her a chance in the games.

And it's not like she didn't do some good for Geralt in the books, she tried her best to help Ciri in BoE (and in some ways she did) and even proposed him to seek Yen's help when she realized a more powerful sorceress is needed. Without her dragging Geralt half dead and begging Tissaia to teleport him, he would have died on Thanedd. She grows as a person and in the end overcomes her fears and helps Yen in Rivia. Condwiramurs even refers to her as venerable Triss and praises her courage, showing she has changed from that moment on, imo it was defining for her character.

I do think she genuinely cares for Geralt and that she is a good, although flawed person regardless of the morally questionable things she did, in both the books and games.

Her actions are often wrong, but I never found her motivations to be malicious or evil, she is just misguided by her ideals or selfish desire for Geralt’s love in the case of his amnesia abuse.
I like her character arc in the games, where she slowly abandons the Lodge, takes Geralt’s side and tries to find her place in the world, guided by her own ideals rather than blindly following others. I see it as a continued character growth. I quite enjoy the way Geralt interacts with her in TW2 and TW3, the dynamic of their relationship and how they treat each other. I also like her cheerful personality and sense of humor.
