They intend for the maul to be used for pvp. At best, compared to a Godsword it will be do about 4 more damage and used to combo with granite maul spec.

ZGS will still be used for most risk fights and AGS is still almost always be better against an opponent with defense.

So this is almost at best a chance of pace (which there is nothing wrong with) that really will only be used by pures and maybe some zerkers.
