Why is it so hard to add dodge/armor/ES/Evasion or things like next hit will do you half damage with 6 second cooldown

or you will are guaranteed to dodge the next attack

whenever you parry a hit you gain a charge that reduces the next 3 attack damage

Or gain 5% of the damage done to you as ES or life which means you get hit by 1k you gain 50 but if you block it you get free 100 if the % is off

This expansion was developed because we had a strong desire to improve Path of Exile's end-game. Our expansions in the past have typically added a lot of content to Path of Exile without directly improving the mapping experience. Atlas of Worlds finally gives it the update that we've been planning for a while.

This expansion includes 30 new maps, 19 new bosses (including five that are similar to act boss fights in complexity) and the Atlas of Worlds itself, an atlas that shows the spatial relationship between different maps that players explore as they seek to discover the secrets of the Shaper and how he creates maps. So I recently started doing maps at level 68 (Tier 1-3 currently at 70) which is great and all, but occasionally I'm dying pretty quickly against mobs or bosses. What's the best way to figure out what went wrong?

Most of the time I'm not even able to look at the monster mods because things get too hectic, and even when I do, it doesn't give much insight (because it's not something obvious like damage reflect).

20% of most maps is just a gamble on whether I hit my panicked life flasks fast enough or just die. Usually I can clear them somehow but it feels like I'm doing something wrong.

How are we supposed to know without knowing anything about your character? Stop asking vague questions. What's your build, setup, what do you defenses look like, etc.

Generally speaking, the biggest hurdles new players have to overcome when they start dying a lot are those:

1) Not enough ehp. 4k+ is the bare minimum you should have as a ranged character entering maps, probably closer to 5k+ if you're melee. There is no definite answer here, but it's a goal to have when you're new.

2) No or badly thought defenses. A simple CWDT-IC setup can double your survivability factor against burst physical damage. Raw defensives stats such as armour, evasion and ES all help if you invest in them. Defensive curses, defensives auras, diverting or crippling monsters all go a long way.

3) Poor flasks setup and poor flask management. Again, rolling your flasks well can increase your survivability by an order of magnitude. You will never see an experienced player with random affixes flasks. Having at least one instant or semi-instant (seething or bubbling) life flask is recommended, same as having an anti-bleed (of staunching) flask, an anti-curse (of warding) flask, and several mitigation/utility (stibnite, basalt, granite, jade, resistance, silver, quicksilver) flasks.

Just look at the new crafting system:

I'm using a 2h flicker strike build with life leech I guess, got it from the official forum.

Got like 3k hp, no ES, 40/75/60/-60% resistances. Guess thats not ideal.

how good is chain from deadeye with LA pierce?

Im having a hard time deciding between having some great damage buffs from Raider along with onslaught and phasing with the extra movement speed and dodge and evasion. Or the deadeye with more crit, some good damage, and possible chaining in the frost wall to shotgun a boss in 1 second.

Not really, not anymore. What do you really gain for being one of the first to reach maps? Can you explain the advantages? Chaos recipe can be done as early as a3m.

AoW also specifically encourages lateral exploration of maps (each completed map gives you +1% map iiq bonus) and eventual culmination to getting to the last 4 bosses. It's not a race to be the first to chain the same 3-4 maps or gorges/plateaus anymore.

Nope. Monster affixes that makes melee impossible or tedious to play are retarded and unfun. This is why volatile blood is universally hated. It punishes melee with NO possible counterplay except "lol get more hp" or "lol carry 3 resistance flasks all the time" which aren't even realistic options considering it can hit for 9k+ damage.

Similarly, monster shotgunning was retarded and made balance impossible. We're talking about a 5 TIMES more damage variance. If you consider the game to have bad spike damage now, surely you can remember how it was back then in multiproj maps.

Not that guy, but Incinerate was good though. and for the very reasons you listed. You could invest minimally into offence in order to survive the bullshit that was, and still is, endgame burst damage. The base damage and shotgun on incinerate allowed for relatively quick clears no matter the build. Holding right click isn't fun, but that's what you're doing on any build. The pretty effects, safety, and being able to quickly clear endgame maps are what made it enjoyable.

It was good for all the reasons it shouldn't be. It was melee, but with the ability to run AA as a spellcaster with actual mana regen, which synergized very well with MoM, and block was easy to get.

So you had a spellcaster with max block, immunity to small fire and phys hits, the equivalent of ~5k armor right now, good survivability and good damage with zero investment, because damage x5 x 4 = 20 times your tooltip in shotgunning range. Nice!

Now compare to a "traditional" 2h melee with no (spell)block because 2h, no AA.

How do you accept such a disparity between 2 different generic builds and still pretend the game balance was in a good state? A player of decent skill level should be able to perform roughly equally the same whether he plays ranged or melee, that wasn't the case back then.
