Hey, for all you fags grinding rank in E:D, I got a breakthrough for you.

At 100% I got no missions, doing 17 Drac. Refreshed for 20 minutes. Decided "fuck it" and did more donation missions. As soon as I hit 5% into the next rank, the mission immediately popped into the mission board without refreshing. Curious, I cycled modes a few times, and there was a fed navy mission every single time. Tried it next time I hit 100%, same result, nothing until 5-6% into the rank, then 100% there. So if you're cycling with no luck, maybe this info will help.

Sorry if it's old info, but I never came across it.

The most that can be released at gamescom is 2.5. The more important thing is when they show what they're working on to prove they aren't sitting on their ass, so planets FPS and shit. Expect FPS around the time citizencon happens or slightly before it.

If you want stuff like another solar system, procedural planets right now, you might as well forget about SC until march next year to make the wait easier. Or you can go full blown masochist and come back in 2018.

Are you autistic enough to want to bother building up huge starbases with poorly made tools and then put up with the retarded AI having to run trade routes between your stations or your stations and NPC stations?
If yes, go for it.

You might as well accept it now. This game will take another 3 - 3.5 years. Forgetting about it is the hard part, but those first few months of trying to forget will make the next 3 years easier to bear. I'm planning to forget about the game starting right after gamescom. I don't really care for the single player aspect so citizencon isn't particularly interesting enough to come back.

It's really a whole lot easier to do when you have classes, a sport, a job, or something to take up your time.

That way of looking at things is totally wrong. There is already a game, playable, that they are constantly updating and providing customer service for.

We'll have the whole of the Stanton system to explore before the end of the year, after that comes more systems, while at the same time bigger and bigger ships will be coming online and flyable.

what do we have right now?
3 space stations with a few other probes
3 planetary objects (that we cannot land or fly in, yet)
lots of fighters with a few other kinds of ships.

What do we still need?

All careers: mining, cargo, refueling, repairing, everything.
Many more ships that are larger with specific ways of usage
Economy
NPCs that are more than just pirates and police
plenty more space stations
Everything First Person Shooter
Procedural planets + 100 star systems with many landing zones

I can just keep going on, but I don't feel like it. This alpha is missing so much of what the base game will need that I don't even have to explain it all. Given the recent progress, I personally think that a Q3 2020 launch is reasonable. They have so much shit to do that it's unreal, so I made my estimate 2.5 years higher, which was originally set for 2018.

Do not dupe faggots into thinking this game will release as described in the near future. I'm not saying this because lul derekt shart maym. I'm just trying to be realistic with what we have, what we know, and what we don't have.

I think the kickstarter was the biggest mistake on the entire idea of making Star Citizen in the first place.

Like. For example. A publisher has some say in what the developer can and cant do, based on budget and time. And I feel like that's exactly what they need right now. Is someone breathing down their necks, saying. "Why are we spending so much money making ships when we dont even have anything to do with the ships"

And we as players who love a game that we let our imaginations run wile can say "Oh man, but in 2018 when this game comes out. It's gonna be the shit" without ever having to prove anything to ourselves or anyone else.

I think Chris Roberts is just afraid of a publisher telling him to hurry up, and to cut features. And that's almost 100% of the reason he went to kickstarter. Because I can almost guarantee with the stuff he had to make the kickstarter successful, he could have sold the idea to a publisher with a fuckton of money and resources.

Not who you replied to, but
>publishers
>allowing this amount of freedom, openness, and ambition

I don't think you know publishers well enough. I do not want this game rushed because a publisher wants to compete for some spot. Yes, it's taking a long time, but new IPs always do. I have enough other stuff going on that waiting for a game isn't terribly difficult like some person who's here every single day reading every single peace of information they can get.

Anyway, they made tons of money and hired hundreds of people. I think they can do it.
>>
>>151636483

>>
>>151634932
I'm quite certain that they have a lot of that somewhat working internally to some degree. Remember the Lando leak with like 40gb of assets nobody had ever seen? I'm sure that, in the 1-1,5 years, they made significant progress and have even more stuff stashed away to bring out when appropriate.
>>
>alliance mining engineer in Kuk system
Top Zozzle
>>
>>151634932
You forgot to list that what we have now is a functioning engine with a fleet of mostly fighters, and even nearly cap ship sized vessels with their own internal physics.

The main thing the game needs right now is some kind of trading, and that will be coming soon.

I never said anything about the game being released as described soon, just that it is already a game that you can play, and there is going to be way more of it pretty damn soon. I still don't' think they'll be able to expand to anything like the size they promised for years though.
>>
>>151635882
Chris Roberts went to publishers. No one was interested.
He even went to EA and they told him to make Call of Duty
>>
>>151635882
>I think the kickstarter was the biggest mistake on the entire idea of making Star Citizen in the first place

Seeing that it became the most successful crowdfunded project ever, and kickstarter is the whole reason we are even getting this game in the first place, you couldn't be possibly more wrong.

Stop whining about a game halfway through its development not being finished yet.

The actual mistake was the feature creep in the crowdfunding campaign that followed the kickstarter, they should've dialled that down way way faster than they did. It's not like it stopped money coming in.

Do not become that person. I personally refuse to believe it until I see it. We have no evidence that any of the careers, aside from perhaps the beginning of law enforcement (lol) is in any kind of basic state of utility. Disco dropped a leak of a few early WIP capital ships for Sq42. Wow. While it does show they had stuff they didn't tell us about yet, a few capital assets are nothing compared to a working game mechanic like mining, tied into the whole economic system they plan to have.

>>151637105
>capital sized
wrong. The smallest capital ship we know of is the Idris. I will agree, however, that the zoning system is impressive for the room rendering stuff.
>>
>>151637550
35% maybe. Halfway point (personal opinion) will be two solar systems connected in alpha. After that, all groundwork is set and they can build everything off of it very quickly.

Not even close to halfway bruv. I still stand by my 4 more years estimate. In time, yes, it would be halfway if it does release in 2020, but content wise? no higher than 15%, if their stretch goals were any indication of what they have left to do.

>>151638145
> In time, yes, it would be halfway if it does release in 2020, but content wise

What the fuck did you think I meant by halfway? Obviously content wise they have barely started, think of much they spent just "developing pipelines".
>>
>>151638069
Didn't Roberts show some of the scavenger, talking about how their tools strip away chunks of the ship, and you'd have to know valuable spots on ships to strip it quickly?

>>151637507

>What's a Star Marine?

Two teams of people with FPS weapons and armor shoot the dogshit out of eachother. If I recall correctly one of the flagship game modes is Capture The Idris. It's supposed to be a simulation of a boarding party fighting a security party. Don't know how close we are to having the Idris in-game, but I'd expect Team Deathmatch to be the first game mode.

Don't expect wide open battlefields with vehicles from Star Marine. That kind of shit might come later on down the line now that procedural planets is being fucked with but not any time soon.
>>
>>151638069
Not him, but the first career to be implemented is apparenlty cargo which will be after 2.7

we have quite a while to go, my Star Citizen friends.

incorrect. It was stated explicitly that those things were meant for the start of the game. Many star systems, all of the careers, and the economy are essential for what SC plans to be. Launching the game without them would kill it.

ctrl - f "launch".
100 star systems. If they can make these with their respective landing zones (3 or 4 for huge systems, maybe 1 or 2 for small ones) then I have no doubt they can make all of the other stretch goals reality at launch as well, given ample time.

>>
>>151640673
You're probably safe with 2 fixed laser repeaters. S1 guns are useless in this game, hence fixed. Ammo runs out quickly, hence energy weapons. Repeaters are consistent in damage and easy to use with fast cooldown speed, hence laser repeaters. You can try other guns if you want, but this seems like the best strat for now.
>>
>>151640984
Seriously? I haven't played AC in a long time, but back when I was a top50 pilot flying M50s, the accepted wisdom was always to go for high dps low rate of fire, because you could never afford to spend too much time in any single position. Use the m50 in AC again."high damage potshots" mean absolutely nothing in a game with shields and fighters that have very powerful armor. I personally think it's best to make extended runs on enemies when they aren't shooting at you. Super hornets are easy targets because they're huge. Never stop moving btw, and get some friends to do the same. A squadron of 3 - 5 m50s kitted out like this are impossible to beat. So if I decided to keep the 325a but also get an M50, should I upgrade to transfer the LTI to the M50 and then buy another 325a, or just buy an M50 without LTI?
>>
>>151649643
LTI probably won't matter, but since it's nice to have, you should wait until the Argo sale next week. Then you can buy one and use that to upgrade to an M50.

What would that do though? Do some of the new ships still get LTI when purchasing?

I have to wait anyhow, it's not like the M50 is on sale, I'm just hoping for next week.

Ya, first time a ship goes on sale it gets LTI. It's where the term "LTI Token" come from, when a ship is bought for the purpose of upgrading it later.

typically LTI is available on the first sale of a ship so you would be able to buy the Argo then upgrade it to an M50

Did Tony Zurovec speak about the extents to which people will be able to hire NPCs? I know he talked about getting large sets of simple NPCs to fill larger ships with life, but what about ones in fighter squadrons? I want to know how many fighter NPCs we would be able to hire to be our bodyguards.
>>
I have to admit that I'm not a good pilot, but the Constellations maneuverability got hit so hard that even a Freelancer can strafe faster than the thing can turn in decoupled mode. The S5 guns deal decent damage if they hit, but a) the lag pips are still not on target due to desync or whatever and b) they get disabled more or less instantly after a few hits. In the end I killed the guy in the Freelancer, but only had 1 gun and 2 engines left. Would have lost much earlier if he would have been able to hit shit with the gimbaled S3s.
>>
>>151658000
Its not the slow pace.
Dads are against any qualitative improvement just because the original didnt have it, and rationalize the grindy nature of the game as not being a grind because you aren't forced to get bigger ships, the cobra mk3 is the perfect ship.

Forumdads are people who grew up playing the original ELITE in the 80s and want E:D to be nothing more than a HD remake. They hate pvp, believing pvpers to be literal psychopaths in real life, and are the reason we have open/private/solo instead of open and a static offline. They are also the reason nothing improves, as every time someone brings up a useful addition (credit exchange between players, commodity/ship part storage, your ship knowing someone firing on you is wanted without needing to scan them first) they shout that person down, screaming about Chinese goldsellers or that storage would make it less challengIng, or that there's no problem with the bounty/wanted system, you just need to "check your fire".
>>
>>151657181
I hold back expectations on everything. I know the scope of SC is enormous and it hasnt really been done before to this magnitude before. That's mainly what intrigues me about SC. If they can actually pull this off, its going to be ridiculous, maybe it could even top wow in how it influenced gaming as a whole. Maybe companies will start thinking about making their credibility as developers increase instead of just sucking purchased IPs dry with yearly rushed polished turds with no substance.

And its not even really about if SC gets finished or not. Its going to be interesting to see how this plays out in the player base as well. A large galaxy needs a large amount of players to populate it. Will this game bring back professions like in the days of Star Wars Galaxies? Where people dont log in only for combat but to maintain a corporation.

Not to mention it could pull the focus away from consoles in terms of gaming, which means less bullshit simplification, streamlining, and limiting of games.

You cant really shit out a product like that quickly, especially if you are starting an entire company established across the globe at the same time. Its expected to start at a snails pace but development will pick up speed as time progresses. Hell I think its already starting to move at a decent pace now.

I really dont expect anything like this to happen, but the mere chance of witnessing a large change in the game developing trend does keep me patient.

I may have gotten off topic a little bit.The comment of you being unpleasant is mainly how you present yourself. Comments starting with "wrong." scream immaturity and bitterness to me.

But what makes Elite so compelling isn’t so much about the game as the experience. It’s the tinkering with and the taking out of a performance car for a Sunday drive, not to rack up more miles, nor to break any speed limits, but to just feel the growl of the engine and the wind comb through what’s left of your hair. To remember those carefree days arched over a BBC Micro or blinking angrily into a Lenslok and to forget for a short while that you have to make 357 people redundant in the morning. Elite is a hermetically-sealed escape capsule and it’s the best there is. Hell, you could fire the game up and just sit there on a launch pad and the sounds are enough to carry you away, so strong is your ship’s presence and so absorbing are the station surroundings.

Taking off, tearing through the station entrance a little too fast and just missing a Python, angling for the next jump, scooping fuel from a blazing sun, spinning the camera around your ship to catch its best profile, starting a fight just for the hell of it, seeing smok rise from the command console, hearing the screen crack and precious oxygen escaping into space and landing back at base with seconds to spare – these are the moments that make Elite essential. Trading, missions, mining – not so much. But it’s ok, we’re not going anywhere.
>>
>>151658608

Only legitimate reply to my post.

ED has at this point less content than First Encounters had at launch 23 years ago. It really needs planet landing and not the half assed horizons bullshit. It needs the core systems handcrafted. Needs more mission variety and events. I believe it was a mistake to make it MMO but they wouldnt ger money otherwise.

But core gameplay is fine, if you prefer Freelancer casual bullshit just drop thr game. Its not for you.

Outside, pitching arse over nose, the freighter they'd murdered scattered its guts and prolapsed its crew. Shat its atmosphere with hideous grace and an undeniably romantic sparkle.
And so:
She laughed her breathless laugh. She groaned her mannish groan. She rolled her eyes and repositioned her legs, a lizardlike yank, a feral smile, to pull him deeper inside.
'Myquel,' she whispered, gripping him. 'Myquel Dobroba Pela-LeSire Lequire.'
It had become her habit, he'd noticed, to murmur his name at least once during sex. Just as it had become his to wonder, when she said it, if she were adoringly savouring the syllables or mocking the pomposity of his having so many. Whichever it was (and with Teesa there was a good chance it was both) the neurotic uncertainty was always banished within moments. Her next movement, her next shudder, her next moan. There simply wasn't room in his brain, he'd accepted, for both her and rational thought.

You can see the pain in Roberts' eyes throughout that whole "interview."

Why is the furry cancer present in every fucking online game? Why haven't we rounded them all up into camps and gassed them yet?

Because they trick devs into accepting them with their large amounts of disposable cash and then by the time they realise what they've accepted its too late.

What totally killed my interest in it was the focus on mouse aiming. MW was never meant to be pin point accuracy no scope headshot bullshit. Low Cost combined with Heavy Fighter means it was always going to be. Heavy combat ships only work when they can pile enough big weapons and defences to make up for all the hits they'll be taking. The Viper mk4 isn't worth enough to be able to do that.

We haven't even seen it yet, but I'm confident it's going to be a favorite among orgs. If I do not come across owning one in-game, I'll dedicate myself to destroying one somehow. I really really want to see big ships explode. I doubt blowing up an Idris is going to be easy at all, but the Polaris will only be 100 - 120m. A massive bombing run on it should do the trick.

Haha, Braben is terrible about that. Federal Dropship/Gunship/Assault Ship/Corvette, and Imperial Clipper/Cutter. Then the other ships get actual individual names, like Python. Makes no sense. I guess the Federal is what designates it. As in a "federal corvette" is the specific name of a type of corvette. Still, kinda shit. Like naming a carrier type "USA CARRIER".

I don't think he talked about how many we could hire, only what the individual skill limitations were. All NPC's will be able to do basic jobs like engineering, ship security etc at the start. Given the state of Elite: Dangerous and the astronomical failure that was No Man's Sky, I've come to really understand and appreciate the usefulness of the Evocati and PTU shit. It's probably the most reassuring aspect of SC right now since so many of us spend our time helping CIG isolate and fix bugs from all parts of the game since we're essentially a QA team of thousands of people who help for free, and it's also great to see such rapid iterations to the game build daily. The only real issue I have with the game is storage, at the moment. I like to be a pack rat. I think because I wouldn't know how to go about fixing the real issues in the game outside of removing Braben and muzzling dads, I've tuned them out. Now I just accept it as a dead space trucking game that will only truly improve in meaningful ways after it dies on the off chance they actually turn over the code. Until then, I'll let myself get excited for the little things like storage, because god knows it's still the closest thing to SC's promises we have at the moment and that fuels me to keep playing.

I guess some of the chillness is just down to how different timed the releases of ED and SC are, ED has been out for a while now and SC is still a way off, so it's harder to compare them, also space sim/autism spacetrucking simulator fans are probably on average more chill, and 4chan generally drives out anyone who is too cultish, slavishly thinking one game is perfect, because this is the one place in the internet that shits on everything. I'm still as surprised as anyone though.
>>
>>151698668

Depends on the size of the planet. On tiny ones you can actually spot settlements within a few orbits usually.

But doesn't Maia have a nav beacon? Drop out of supercruise on it and passive scan the beacon itself like you would a ship. It'll populate your system map for you.
>>
>>151678080
If I remember correctly, that's because EA still owns the rights. I'm fine with it personally, the art direction is the best thing going for Star Citizen, wouldn't want that bogged down by throwbacks to campy 90s sci-fi design.

Depends on if you want to get fucked or trade.

The Type-6 is a stellar ship for the price, though, and can be fitted for low-budget exploration as well as small-to-mid-time hauling. It's a pretty solid ship for building up enough of a fortune to make the other vessels easy to grasp.

That star is behind it. The star is dying/going nova(apparently it takes a long time for a star to go nova), and allegedly, the planet is being torn apart by the Star because it's too close, thus the exposed core.

>>
>>151706162

>>151706032

Mining is comfy, especially with prospector and collector controllers. You just need whatever has lots of internal space within your price range. I use a Clipper because the space is good enough and the speed and maneuverability make it more pleasant to fly in a ring system than something like a python or freighter.
>>

It's because whenever the shitposting about ED becomes intolerable, scg/edg-ers will pipe up with "at least your game is out, entitled milennial", and all is well.

Whenever shitposting about Star Citizen becomes too much, edg/scg-ers will argue "at least YOUR game has stuff to do in it!" and all will be forgotten.

To be fair, the targeting optic is usually turned off and locked when taking off or landing. The Apache doesn't have a window or holographic display to see through the fuselage around the pilots feet, but similar technology does exist. Range Rover recently implemented a series of cameras and visual trickery to see through the hood of the vehicle so you can see the ground under your vehicle.

okay listen: here’s the thing:

My dad was an aerobatics pilot, and one time, absurdly, he arranged for me to go up with a flight instructor and be handheld through aerobatics maneuvers for maybe half an hour to fortyfive minutes (limiting factor: nausea from aforementioned aerobatics maneuvers).

Elite Dangerous? is 1.5x of a full-on, legit, real-world, “I have never done this before but OH MY GOD” Pitts aerobatics aeroplane.

It’d be 2x, but it’s a computer game where you sit still in your desk chair, ydig. controlwise, though: a full one point five times the experience of flying an ACTUAL Pitts aerobatics aeroplane, through ACTUAL aerobatics maneuvers. As previously stated, it’d be 2x but there’s no air and no gravity and no aerodynamics (highly important Pitts considerations).

Dunno can't get into the Aurora. Though I really like that SC has kind of roles for ships (even if they aren't in game yet), where as ED ships just feel like these kind of undefined, amorphous, do anything ships, so nothing feels special.

ED could really do with restricting what some ships can do a little. Like some modules only big ships can mount, planets only small ships can land on, luxury cabins only the Orca/Clipper/Cutter can use.

IDK if it's still the case but the Asp's power plant had a massive hitbox that took up most of the hunch on its top when I was running it so any time my shields went down I immediately took a lot of damage to the PP. HRPs wouldn't prevent that.

>>
>>151713463

Every beta backer got a free basic Eagle when the game was released.

It's mostly an upgrade from the Sidewinder.
Sidewinder: Slightly tougher hull, slightly smaller target, one more utility mount
Eagle: Slightly tougher shields, slightly bigger target, one more weapon hardpoint, faster, more maneuverable, can hold more cargo, more fuel, longer jump range, faster capacitor recharge

OTOH the Freagle's has a value so it can be sold for 40K and costs around 2K for insurance if it blows up, while the basic Sidey is worthless and is free to replace if you blow up in it.

The Viper Mk3 is curiously slower at turning than the Cobra but other than that it's size and layout is better for combat.

Shields don't care about your total mass, only your hull mass, which never changes.

Shields are supposed to be affected by the volume they have to cover, but since that stat isn't tracked in the game they just use the ship's base hull mass.

Multicrew is one of the next things coming. If I had to guess, commander creator and multicrew are going to be the things revealed at gamescom if not atmospheric flight. Spacelegs are a long way off I think, but I know that they intend to implement them.

Dads are the reason sensible changes to mechanics don't fucking happen. Don't like the rep grind? Think the mission system is shit? Want completely reasonable quality of life changes? Fuck you, you're not playing the game right.

Perfect example: I was recently searching for a solid way to get UA fragments quickly for engineers shit when I stumbled upon a thread on the FD forums talking about it. One guy was saying that waiting for signal sources to spawn in supercruise for hours was a horrible mechanic, and it is. You literally just sit there doing fuck all else 300+ LY from the bubble waiting in supercruise, hoping for the dice to roll in your favor. In comes dad #84921, accusing the player and others like him of seeking "instant gratification" and insinuating that the grind for those fragments is only a grind because they're trying to grind for them. (I don't get it either.)

tl;dr: Dads are fucking cancer, but they aren't holding back major features for the most part.

Dads don't fly big ships. A lot of them see working towards a goal like a big ship as "playing the game wrong." This is also why a lot of them don't understand how bad the grind is. They do a lot of random bullshit in game, but make little progress because the best ways to make money in game are also the most grindy.

You only get 1 torp on a small launcher and 2 on a medium. They're also so slow that literally any ship in the game can outrun them. You have to take the target by surprise or joust so they fly into it.

For your trouble they hit harder than a shot from a class 4 plasma accelerator and do extensive damage to the target's internals.

Missiles have more ammo, are faster and do around 1/3rd the damage of a torpedo. They'll also do extensive damage to the target's external modules (weapons, engines, utilitiy mounts) but have far less breaching to internals.

In both cases the target's shields have to be down for best effectiveness. If the hit is absorbed by shields, no module damage can occur.

Your build consumes more power when your hardpoints are deployed. That's what the shaded area means. It's the difference between hardpoints retracted and deployed. Make sure deployed is below your output threshold or your ship will power down leaving you helpless in mid combat because VISION deems it good game design

Did you land or something? You don't actually go into orbit or down on the planet.

You just need to get within 0.5 light seconds and coast at minimum speed until you spot a mission target signal source. It's blue instead of the standard orange and is accompanied by an announcement by your ship's computer so it's hard to miss when it happens.

Your weapons power off when you retract hardpoints, so your overall power consumption is lower then.

You generate less heat and use less fuel the less power you're using, and having the weapons off with hardpoints closed means you can use the power for other equipment.

The small shaded part that's beyond the main bar shows how far over your power plant's maximum output your draw has gone.

This isn't necessarily a show-stopper. You can manage your power priorities from your right-hand modules panel. 1 is highest priority and it can go up to 5 for lowest.

You're overtaxing your PP by 0.04MW, but you can for instance set your cargo hatch to the lowest priority so it shuts down automatically when your guns come out, freeing up enough power to keep the rest of the ship running.

The hatch just controls whether you can use your cargo scoop. It's not vital in combat.

>>151720642
>What's a good upgrade from these shitty fixed mount pulse lasers?

Depends... Are you a good shot?

Fixed > Gimbal >>> Turret in terms of DPS, assuming you can hit what you're aiming at.

Gimbals and turrets both track targets within an arc. Gimbals can fire in a small cone in front of them while turrets can fire anywhere they can get line of sight. Downsides are that they both have jitter so the aiming reticle moves around a bit, and they can both be scrambled by chaff, which causes them to temporarily swing around wildly and miss.

Railguns do incredible damage, but have high heat/power consumption, are fixed only and have a charge-up delay before firing when you pull the trigger.

Back when I had an eagle I ran it with a fixed beam laser on the roof and two gimbaled multicannons on the bottom. Kinetics are harder to use fixed than lasers because they have travel time.
>>
>>151722102

Not automatically. You can power them off manually in your modules panel, which causes them to retract until you manually power them on again.

Fire groups just control which trigger arrangement you're using.
>>
>>151719994
They really need to differentiate Imperial and Federal space. Some different station designs would be great.
>>
A quick question regarding hardpoints, do 2 small equal 1 medium in terms of damage? Is it better to run 2 mid cannons and 4 small pulse or should it be 2 mid pulse with 4 cannons?
>>
>>151721943
>>151722102

Careful what you have set to shut off with hardpoints deployed. Some things take longer than others to power back up.

Like you don't need your FSD when you're fighting, but it takes a few seconds to power back up if you shut it down. You can't start charging for a jump or to go to supercruise until it's back online, which can be a problem if you suddenly decide you need to run for it.

>>
>>151722659

It varies by weapon. Two smalls are typically in the neighborhood of 25-50% more powerful than one medium.

Also consider that armor hardness places smaller weapons at a disadvantage against larger ship hulls.

So say you want lasers to burn down shields and multicannons to shred hull. Two small multis have higher base DPS than one medium, but as soon as you start shooting at medium or large ships their armor can nullify or counter that advantage because the smalls have poor penetration.

Don't drop into RES sites and just pick a random spot on the ring you want. Shortly after you drop either a weak pirate, another miner, authority ship or weak pirate attacking the miner will spawn. If you get the pirate on its own just exit to main menu and re-enter.

I don't think they did. They want death to mean something in this game so that you value your character and don't make stupid decisions without acknowledging that it can bring you one step close to your character actually dying. More on this when they finally detail their reputation system since that will take the hardest hit.

>>151734345
While I do still think that they are holding on to the Death Of A Spaceman, I wonder how or why they thought this was a good idea. The entirety of Drake Interplanetary (aside from the Caterpillar) is a construct of counter intuitive vehicle properties. They're described as: easily replaceable and cheap aimed at pirates, not very redundant, and like you said, will not have ejection seats. I do not understand this design philosophy. The vehicle you're dependent on for survival should not be "easily replaceable" in the sense that getting rekt is OK. If a character is going to have something like 4 or 5 "lives" until they're actually dead, it makes no sense that your ship that dies quickly should have no way of escaping without a 5 - 6 second animation.

it's such a beautiful ship though

>>151737274

>>
>>151737274
2 fixed S1 guns for the fuccaqueer will make absolutly no difference. Following Drake's usual deal, they have massive engines. The engines are quite literally half of the entire profile of the ship in this case, so they're most likely to get hit the most. If you thought the Cutlass had an issue with engines getting torn off, this will make you want to kill yourself. The Cutlass actually outguns the Super Hornet if my memory serves me, but it never wins because it dies so much faster.

Coming to theaters near you: The Bucc Emerges
>>
>>151737861
Why? Both can mount 4 gimbaled S2 or 4 fixed S3.
>>
>>151738332
Do you actually play the alpha? Size 1 guns do the closest amount to "0" as possible in this game. It's bugged, but I think I do more damage with the charged sniper than an S1 gun, even thought he S1 is 5 times larger. They're pea shooters, and that marginal difference means nothing when you're already dead.
>>
>>151738514
Anon, I'm saying that the Buccaneer can mount the same guns as a Sabre plus 2 S1. Those might be irrelevant, but that still results in both of them having the same loadout. Yet according to you the Sabre deals more 'actual damage', whatever that's supposed to mean.

>>151738698

So, I was playing Elite: Dangerous - Horizons in the past few days, and I found a planet, with a mountain in a crater. I figured I’d be “Crazy”, and land on the top of the Mountain, so I did.

I was there, landed a few minutes, dozens of lightyears from anywhere, and this twinkly piano piece began to play. Looking out, over the majesty of stars, sitting so Small and alone, I admit that I teared up a little. I did. I was overcome by it all.

It’s incredible that the life’s work of a Cambridge scholar, to create a believable simulation of our galaxy, has all but come true. And it’s only going to get more real. Imagine the next generation of Quantum computing, a Thousand times faster than modern Machines. Though most likely, some of that will be swallowed up by larger displays with Higher resolutions.

Still, The Stars My Destination.

Will SC have an entire procedurally generated galaxy like ED and NMS, or will it be all handcrafted limited systems?
Because all i want is ED with Space Legs and landable planets with life on them, and SC seems the closest to that.

desu what i dont understand is why they're not already at that point. I mean in ED all they would need to do is get a planet generating formula like NMS and space legs like SC, in SC all they need is a planet generating formula, and in NMS all they need is less shitty graphics and ship interiors you can walk around in.
They're all so close to being perfect, but they just wont add a couple features to make them perfect.
I just want to jump a few thousand lightyears from inhabited space, find an Earthlike planet, and explore that/make it a homebase from which to explore the surrounding stars.

you're going way too fast man, the cobra is an endgame ship. it does everything you need to to, no need to buy anything more expensive tee bee aitch. take your time, don't turn the game into a grind. just play the game naturally and let credits and stuff just come to you. start a fight for the hell of it, or just sit on the pad for a while absorbing the sights and sounds of a station as you imagine the people inside it going about their business. take the scenery in CMDR, don't try to play ED like a game.

Fly safe CMDR o7
>>
>>151744339

SC plans to use ProcGen tech to quickly create planets, but they will have artists make sure it fits a specific set of requirements. There will be a limited number of systems in the game, so no endless space bullshit like NMS or E:D.

Some planets will have landing zones, areas of interest, stations, among other things they create, so they can't just click a button and make an entire galaxy. This approach takes more time to develop, but I much rather them do this than create a massive fuckup like E:D again with repetitive worlds. You will also be able to mine the surface of some, and get gas in gas giants.

The universe is literally the biggest problem.

In Freelancer, you had low level systems to high level, you started out in a dinky piece of shit and you could try out a bunch of different other ships, and then you got the Defender and went "holy shit I am wrecking the fuck out of everything here" and you knew it was time to move on. And in every new system you wondered what new stuff, new ships, etc were going to be there.

In E:D every system is the exact fucking same. You can BTFO sidewinders and get BTFO by anacondas in the starting system and every other system, nothing changes, there's no secrets, nothing. It's just procgen nothingness with no meaning or impetus to get you to go or danger to get you to consider staying. It's totally flat.
>>
>>151747740
The focus on scale is the main problem of the entire game, what are you talking about
>>
>>151747740
With more artist control over the worlds, they would each have more interesting things to find and do than millions of E:D systems combined, since of course a single system in E:D has almost everything available in it.

SC planets will be huge with more than just driving. If you cannot handle that this is how it's going to be, this game is not for you.

>>151748224
It would be very helpful. Thanks
>>
>>151747740
>It's great

No. It's not. I really don't enjoy a universe that can take literal weeks to travel places but is also full of emptiness. FDev have taken the simulator idea way too far to excuse their severe lack of content within their universe.
>>
>>151748282
desu, in a space game supposed to span all over the galaxy, I'd rather have some sort of scaling difficulty. Harder parts stay harder until you reach them, and when they get easy, they start scaling to "normal" while there'd still be harder parts to look forward to, until you get the biggest baddest ship, and everywhere is "normal" difficulty to you.

I highly doubt such a small change like this will be useful enough to justify itself. I'd much rather they fix ships like the Vanguard which needs it most right now.

http://gamerant.com/no-mans-sky-free-updates-no-paid-dlc/

>Bearing in mind Hello Games’ complimentary DLC philosophy for No Man’s Sky, one might remember the familiar post-launch strategy of the developers at CD Projekt Red, who put out 16 separate packages of free DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. As lots of gamers may recall, the strategy for the Poland-based studio was extremely successful, for not only did it expand the shelf life of its action-RPG well after its release, but also it served as a show of gratitude to fans and enticed other gamers to pick up the title.

How does the instancing work in ED?
I play in open mode only and i have never seen another player in about 300 hours.
>>
>>151749473
Where's the 30 minutes of crashing, jittery movement and framerate drops with stuttering? That's all I experienced before I got my fucking money back.

>>151749672
Consider this: most play solo. Also consider: this game has very few people playing it anymore. Not only that, but the universe spreads out people a shitton anyway

I think the sales pitch of finding a player in NMS will soon become true for E:D with the playercount dwindling.

i saw a player last night in arjung. I got in my fdl and headed to Ix. Thats as far as I got interacting with another player.

Its worse in Sothis/ceos. Everyone is trying to fill thier cargo hold....plus the cap on players in an instance...etc.

>>

You usually find pockets of players in one place.
I recently saw someone flying an Asp Scout in Arque. He was Harmless. Was kind of a cute encounter.

Just started this back up after months of not playing. Have they given everyone horizon for free or something?

I started a new game, checked my ship in outfitting and noticed I had the planetary landing module fitted.

war thunder
at least elite has regular exploits and vision
plus you have to actually play warthunder, cant multitask
>>
>>151754315
>this
>or warthunder
is this even a question
warthunder
in elite you can play whatever ship you want and you still technically get the same for everything. Meanwhile in warthunder, you can play what you want, but you get punished if its not in a tier at or below the plane/tonk you want, and again if it isnt the one directly before them.
>>
If you eject in atmo in SC, are you just fucked? No chute, no nothing?
>>
Can combat be as profitable as hauling in ED? I am having a hard time justifying replacing my type6 with something like a vulture
>>
>>151753842

Everyone gets the module, but you can't use it if you don't have Horizons. It doesn't weigh anything, so no harm done.
>>
>>151754706
>in elite you can play whatever ship you want and you still technically get the same for everything

?????

Cargo hauling is objectively the fastest way to make credits, and the "reward" directly scales with the size of your ship
>>
>>151755013
But you still get the same amount of credits for every single unit of cargo.
>>
>>151754797
No.

Yes anon. Now please, consider the consequence of this fact in relation to what the previous anon wrote.

trade profits scale with ship size
a cutter with 20 ly jump range and about 700t cargo can make 2M per round trip

I would suggest doing sothis with >aspX then do a transition to trade a conda
do the combat just for >fun

>>151755163
a sothis cutter makes 70M per trip

Why is Horizons £20 when I paid £40 on launch for Elite and now you can get Elite and Horizon for £40?

If anything it should be free.

It would take that long with the scope he had in mind. With the additional funding, he is building a full fledged highly detailed persistent universe with four teams of dozens of people.
>>
>>151755476

>>
>>151755931
Good job I got most of my pledge back before that happened. Now I'm stuck with some shitty pooraura. But at least I didn't lose hundreds on LTI bullshit.

What annoys me most is how much grind the whole game is going to have. All devs lie about it. They won't tell the truth, ever.

>our game won't require grind
>get hit with countless gold sinks
>need to grind for months for a single ship
>have to continue grinding for insurance of it

They even make you buy shit with real money, or grind in the "pre-alpha". Having an occasional free fly week doesn't count.

Please. do tell us more.
>>
>>151755476
It means the scope of the game has changed significantly since then.

>>151756256
By definition, any repeated task is going to be grinding. But with SC, I have hopes that doing certain careers will have enough different aspects that they aren't always the same exact process or experience like in ED. Also, the time to earn a ship shouldn't be a few days. Large and expensive ships are going to take longer to get than smaller ones, obviously.

>make you buy shit with real money
what exactly have the they forced you to buy, anon? As far as I know, all you need for Squadron 42 and the eventual PU is a game package that contains both of those, which I think is around 60 or 45 dollars.

It's mad how even ships the SIZE OF THE STARFARER don't have cabins but everyone sleeps in the same room. Jesus christ, there is ample room in boats smaller than a Freelancer for individual cabins.
