I have plenty of RAM. SE has two types of memleaks.

One is the quick, 30-minute variety that causes a fairly simple crash.

The second is the more subtle, 4-hour variety that somehow manages to suck up even more RAM. After the game crashes, your PC will thrash for about 5 minutes while it clears the swap of Keen's dick-grease. I suspect that this one is worse because it's in the native C++ extensions, either Havok or VRage.Native, and therefore not subject to managed memory restrictions.

They are. Originally I had them straight but the looked so fucking bad. I have a control block that tilts them back 10 degrees, which also spreads out the wing-mounted missiles a little more.

The fuselage has holes on either side for spars on the wings to go into, so the spinblocks are better protected and it looks like a (mostly) solid piece.

I'm finding more and more I have more fun with FTD when I decide to make things aesthetically pleasing as well as functional.

This includes things that might be less optimal, but are cooler.The plane on the left has a set of retracting landing gear and afterburners set up.

I need to figure our a 'Matter of Britain'/Arthurian naming scheme for land vehicles.

I'm already naming naval planes after mythical knight's swords and weapons and heavier warships are going to get all kind of "Sir Gallahad"s and "Sir Percieval"s, and so on.

Next on the agenda is building the "King Arthur" Naval Carrier.

Apparently, in order to stop people from phasing into things and violently dieing, movement is now kinda server-sided.

Basicially, you move on your end and then tell the server about it, and if the server figures that you moved in impossible ways or moved into a wall due to lag he gets you to a prior position.

Problem is when you fail to properly communicate your movements to the server, by not having enough uplad speed, or by having packet loss or whatever. Then shit just goes full retard. Apparently not all people suffer from it, but it´s still pretty bad.

I'm getting the feeling that Spangles will be to Eggpyrion as Minecraft is to Terraria.

The first has ostensibly deeper mechanics but is more aimless and the content is less fleshed-out, the latter is simpler with regards to mechanics but puts more emphasis on exploration and actually doing shit.
Empyrion has quite a ways to go though, I think. Starting a server for it now would likely just result in burnout and varying degrees of disappointment. I'd say wait for it to come along a bit more.

So I managed to raise this by putting another layer of alloy on the hulls, and I think I'll leave it like that, but now the propellers for some reason submerge the nose in the water when going forward (they're not above the center of mass, checked that) and make it bob up and down.

It's a hinge on an advanced rotor so I can feed ammo to it.
Control is with Control Module with the example script digi gives.
Hinges are pretty shitty because they jump all around, I need to play a lot with force and I had to add a gyro on the back to stabilize it.
I should have used two rotors but it would have been too big then.

It's a block in the control tab named PID, it does thrust control and stability things. Set it to altitude mode, set a test input to your desired altitude, set your downprops to thruster mode, and it should work decently out-of-box.

Nah, they are the new gattling guns. The shotguns suck dick since they are super short range, cant do anything beyond short range, and use shitloads of energy. Meanwhile the gattling guns do decent plinking damage at long range, and just tear people apart at close range in seconds. Better than the big mega SMG? Definatley.

Basically when you build small you have to concede something is going to be shit. These guns take a while to reload and don't tear into anything very well, but they go dakka and that's sometimes enough.

I'm working on improving them, but space is a valuable asset. Missiles are much more power dense than these small machine guns, so I make the guns to cover for what the missiles lack; Keep ammo costs super low so they don't starve the stronger systems.

An earlier draft of the caliburn had a more brutal set of two 36mm guns; I may go back to those designs if these ones are less effective.

I think the main reason why he also got rid of oil was because he wanted to make ridiculously powerful things like heavily shielded thrustercraft less powerful by making them far more expensive to maintain in the long run compared to other stuff like conventional ships. Personally I'd like to see oil remain too but I do like the other merits the unified system brought so whatever.

He thinks what he's done is fixed all the resource concerns in one fell swoop, but what he's really done is made it like all resources are automatically and immediately transformed into their most toxicly optimized uses.

The idea that a jet-powered super-shielded heavy-armor brick with lasers coming out of every side now doesn't even need to worry about having access to fuel doesn't faze him. He doesn't think about it.

He might as well just hard-code infinite resources into the campaign and be done with it. Unless the tech system solves world hunger, brings peace to the middle east and sucks my dick, the game is far worse off for the single resource.

I mean, why the hell even have all these fancy engine blocks if I can just capture a marauder every half hour and melt it down for fuel?

You still have to actually refine the materials to fuel before being able to use them (at least before the steam engine is added, god knows how it'll work then) which can be only accomplished in stable, low-altitude above-water stuff and which will mean less resources for building stuff if you only build ginormous laser fuel hogs.

Besides, you could already capture stuff and just drain their fuel before scrapping them which so that hasn't really changed either. A single Marauder contains surprisingly large amount of fuel for an early-game ship.

He could have used a different method, like making "normal" thruster quite expensive power wise (meaning more power is needed meaning more fuel is consumed) and custom engines require a lot of fuel but being very good at producing thrust (high performance jet fuel doesn't come cheap)

Also a bigger variety of block types (and a slight modifying of the factions) would have alleviated the "not enough metal" issue by adding blocks like reinforced wood (a bunch of natural, little metal).
Also the crystal growth tray was bad, i give him that, could have been solved by needing to provide a feedstock of materials (going back to his post above, Tiberium's specialty is that it can convert nearby matter into more Tiberium) and a whole slew of other methods of using other resources to improve the yeld/growth of resource zones (a Steel Mill consuming natural and oil/fuel gives more metal since the rationale would be that you need less metal to obtain the same structural integrity as it is steel and not just iron for example, or turning natural into oil/fuel)

Also having multiple resource zones for different materials (ie: some resource zones are better than others at producing certain stuff) would have encouraged expansion.

Yet another way to encourage expansion would have been a low-ish "maintenance cost" for your fleet based on block count and type (you use mostly wood? you need to provide wood to replace the planks that have rotted), doesn't matter if you can build a fully stocked Iowa if you can't repair it when stuff inevitably breaks due to use and age.

The problem is that when thrusters get nerfed it fucks small planes in the ass while big designs can just slap in more engine/fuel/jets to alleviate the problem so it's far from optimal. Just a few patches back jet speeds were nerfed and it did absolutely jack for bigger designs.

Dunno about bigger variety of blocks, not fond of it myself because it might mean arbitrary tiers so that you would have to start with a crappy designs and gradually phase into actual proper designs, but it might work so dunno.

I think Nick mentioned at least trying something with the maintenance cost stuff when tech rolls out, and tech itself could be captured when capturing enemy bases so we'll see what happens when we get there.

Did you miss out on the shield changes? Shields now gain additional protection based on the speed of the shot fired at it, so that the higher speed the less chance it has to penetrate. Sabots are bad, railguns will never ever penetrate any shields and crams just sail trough them with nary a problem, as if they'd needed more RNG bullshit on their side. On the other hand you can no longer project a shield trough another so typical shield stacks no longer work and you have to actually think about where to place them (very tedious, very effective still, placated dumb people who were constantly whining about shields and never actually used them) . This resulted in most of the high-end stuff being crippled overweight paperweights as they used roughly all of the above in a form or another. Tachyon and Excalibur are probably the only high-end stuff that are still as scary as before if not even more so, and that is mainly a result of a next to a complete internal rebuild (and laser buffs in the case of the former). As for detection all of the big stuff can be detected from over the AI combat range so you have to barely even worry about detecting them.

Lasers are babbymode easy now, though have fun with the ludicrous fuel usage if you run them with proper shields. Same goes for PAC.

Crams can still be a joke if you know what to do, if they have an inertia fuse (read: every high-end design) you can just pop them with long-range disrupt shields. Walk around the planet, find some ores, dig into the earth.
Go home, craft stuff. And shoot some animals/pick plants on the way for food.

When it comes to bases and ships, it does not matter where you place generators and stuff, this is not KSP. Just place one of everything somewhere and it will just work.

Only exception is thrusters, they have to point to the proper direction (at least 1 thruster for each direction of up down left right forward back you want your ship to be able to translate). But position does not matter, force is always applied to the middle of your ship.

I have downloaded an example of a catamaran (Colonist by purpleleven) that handles exactly as I want this to handle, but you have to do it manually (raising/lowering hydrofoils that are embedded in the lower center line of each hull, on the front third of the ship) and the ship's front can still get up in the air if you go too fast without adjusting the hydrofoils.

Well, if their only role is to be first oxygen producers and then biodiesel then you can make them non edible (or just use microalgae), making them edible would (probably) mean adding a slew of extra DNA (to codify for the edible stuff) and thus making them slightly worse at being biodiesel (more complex structures that make them edible take more material to be replicated and may not be as efficient in the biodiesel conversion process as simpler stuff).

There was a study in which someone did a "evolution challenge" between strands of DNA placed in a highly nutritive envornment+the enzymes that replicated it and every generation the "winner" was the strand that mutated to be shorter (as it used less materials and reproduced faster)
