I've tried with various docking blocks and just vanilla merge blocks and they either don't work, stick in space and become immovable rods, or clang violently during connection/disconnection.

At this point I've just put in MCM merge block boarding tubes for AESTHETIC value and I spacewalk across the little gap between ships. Maybe by 2017 we'll have some working docking clamps. Hopefully some year we'll even have a docking collar that can extend and retract.

My go-to for submarine launched missiles has always been to just jam a propeller in and let it sort things out itself. Works fairly well against flying and surface targets, but they get really confused against submerged targets unless you spend space on a ballast tank.

My current project is coming close to completion too. Really getting worried about the block count though, I don't want it going over 8k and it's already at 6k. The guns each took 1k, which scares me a bit. Still can't decide if I want frags for safety or HE for performance.

On the FTD front: Helium is done, I've given Nick the all-clear to merge it. Spent 4 hours testing it.

Wouldn't be worth it, rings too close to earth would fuck with satellites to the point where they are essentially a worthless endeavor, polar satellites would be safer than equatorial ones, but far less useful, and would still have to pass through the rings twice per orbit and risk collision.

A more likely situation would be some kind of lunar collision, if the rings were as far away as the moon then we'd be much safer and capable of space travel/satellite launching. However the mineral makeup of those rings would not be worth mining, especially if it's that far away.

Either way, Earth likely wouldn't be able to hold onto its rings, due to proximity to the sun among other things, but damn it sure would look good.
