/nmsg/ No Man's Sky general. Space Sim edition.

Out right now for PS4, PC release on Friday the 12th.

>What is this game?
A relaxing procedurally generated space exploration game with some combat and trading.

>What do you do in the game?
From the HG website, http://www.no-mans-sky.com/2016/08/what-do-you-do-in-no-mans-sky/

>Is there multiplayer?
We want people to be aware they are in a shared universe. We added online features, and some Easter Eggs to create cool moments
>>

You guys should check out Procedural World if you're actually interested in good procedural generation.

http://procworld.blogspot.com/

Note that everything in this picture is made with voxels, like Minecraft but less blocky, so it's completely editable.

Am I the only one who wish it had even LESS gameplay to it?

The fun parts of the game are aimlessly exploring and looking at cool scenery, but the game forces you to constantly be mining for resources just to not die/get stuck 99% of the time.

You should only be needing resources to create new shit or on particularly hazardous planets, not fucking all of them.

I wish there was a free roam mode, like minecraft's creatice/easy mode.

Also, FUCKING GAMESTOP had to cancel my limited edition and only gave me a normal version of the game, is there scans of the comic and artbook yet?

Reminder to not preorder the game, the preorder bonus ship is broken and will make you skip a huge and fun section of the introduction tutorial where you are meant to work towards getting a warp drive and shit

Don't preorder, it only makes the game worse. Funny somehow but true.
>>
>>151431579

They did say "updates" are free, but considering how much of a smarmy cunt Sean is, he may have meant updates as in bug fixes and what not, but actual CONTENT updates would be paid. Who knows though, but I wouldn't trust them to hold up that everything is free, especially with Sony onboard.
>>
>>151434273
Never. Bethesda has the exact opposite philosophy in walking simulators. Every weed and piece of trash was hand-placed there by some overworked intern. You can't go more than five feet without finding something of note, even if it's just a robot on a toilet or whatever.

Also, has anyone figured out how to get AtlasPass v2 and v3 yet? I made it to the final Atlas Interface and it required 10 Atlas Stones to continue. Well, if it was me who got such a call I would at least check the order number and double check elsewhere to confirm.

And if I was bored and suspected something wrong then I would call the manager and act stupid but friendly "just wanting to know when I can expect they game since they have a shortage", making sure that they get the impression that anything that doesn't revolve around me getting my way would result in me calling other departments or sending emails about how that store is mysteriously short on stock. Maybe throw in a few comments about some online threads where I brought up that their stores were out of products.

Just to give the guy a shit time in the future. Then next time I'm in the store I would friendly bring it up in some other context and throw in how some comments about how his bosses also had said something similar to what he said. All while I'm acting like he was just a poor victim.

In terms of what they plan to add, or what? They have said they're intending to add base building and player-owned freighters. If you're talking about bugfixes and shit, I don't think they've mentioned anything about that.

Player-owned freighters would probably be the first new feature of the two since the assets are already there, though you could make the same argument for base building as well. I had no idea this was possible.
>>
>>151443571

Yes, that's the problem. The lead dev said one thing, everything else said another, and when asked to specify, he would never give a straight answer. He has been saying that there would be multiplayer before in interviews and never came out and changed his stance on it. Of course until recently, when he came out and said "Chances of meeting others are very slim," and then shortly afterwards "This is not a multiplayer game." A lot of people got confused by this so no one really knew what they were getting into but since people have already tried to meet and failed, it's safe to say that there is, indeed, no multiplayer.

>>151443836

Supposedly base building and the ability to command large freighters is coming soon. When, we don't know yet but I'm guessing it'll be the first major patch. They've also said they plan to add proper multiplayer functionality later on.

Just out of curiosity. Did he specifically use the word "multiplayer" or was that just an interpretation. Maybe he said something along the lines of "players share the same universe" with the expectations that people would understand it in context with the other info already released.

I'm sure this has been posted already but here you go. I'm sure this was intended to be a launch feature at some point in the game's development but I guess they had to scrap it at some point for whatever reason. The question is why he didn't just come out and say that multiplayer would not be a launch feature but would be coming later instead of being a vague faggot and trying to trick everyone, but I think the answer is pretty easy to figure out.

This game with freighters and base building in my eyes is just Subnautica with procedural generation. I enjoyed Subnautica quite a lot for a multitude of reasons, so I'm looking forward to the day they actually add those two particular features.

Alright. It's not like it would be hard to do since they need so few server space for it. Just create and instance on the rare chance two players meet. But then there are all the other issues like planetary changes being stored locally, players trying to overload the servers with big meet-ups, anti griefing features, etc.

But I agree that he should had come out clear after seeing that.

Okay, so, this picture is part one of two. I'm sure you guys have seen screenshots of planets with those long, stretching rock formations? What I found cool about this planet, is that those formations started under the water, and stretched up onto the land like roots. You'll see how it connects on land in the next one.

Nah, Sean specifically said anytime he was asked you will be able to see other players. He basically made it clear there was no "multiplayer element" as in, you couldn't interact or do anything, but you'd be able to see one another.

He always said that and has been saying that forever. He even explained it would work off a lobby system and each player could carry like 2-5 people in their lobby. So basically you can see a few players if they happen to come together in the same spot.

So it's either
1. server issues
2. he lied
3. he is adding it in a future patch and had no clue people would meet like this now

I've been reading so much about how the fanboys overhyped this game, but that trailer is absolutely gorgeous. The ships in space, the colors, everything looks so much better. Why did they do this? Do devs never fucking learn? This shit is gonna be all over Crowbcat's video.
>>
>>151453754
The part that hurts the most is seeing the fleet combat section, especially with it moving from space to the planet. Made it seem like there would be proper factional disputes and whatnot.

As much as I love this game and defend it I gotta admit they pulled some Watch Dogs level fuckery when it came to the graphics. Luckily from my point of view the gameplay more than makes up for that, and it's still a gorgeous looking game, but yeah... We got duped.

Same. It seems like he has plans for the game. Seeing him in interviews as the development went on you could tell making this game took a toll on him. I hope he continues to update it, this game has so much potential. Regardless, I'm enjoying it atm. Looking forward to base building and freighters. I also hope they add in the ability to save ships you buy. I don't like the fact your old on just disappears when buying a new one.

all they need to do to make this game great is make the planet generation not suck dick. add actual plains/flat areas, rivers, mountains, make the flora/fauna actually make sense. if there are massive (or even somewhat big) creatures on a planet, then it should be fucking TEEMING with creatures that make up the food chain that makes that creatures existence fucking possible. if the planets were more like actual planets instead of shitty copypaste pockmarked hills

I am seeing an INSANE amount of extreme negativity and toxicity in these posts and it's a huge bummer. I have been lurking this general since the beginning and it has never been in a state as bad as this.

On that note, many of these people spewing toxicity seem to completely hate this game. So why on earth are they here? Why are they bringing down actual constructive conversation?

I understand that criticism is an important aspect to any game, and that devs need to be taken account for. There is a difference between constructive criticism and blatantly arguing constantly that this game is terrible. If you hate it so much, just leave! This isn't the thread for you! It would allow those of us (the ones that have known exactly what this game was from the very fucking beginning, the ones that did not expect things that were never shown, and love exploration and adventure) to enjoy our general again. I really don't want to leave but your making this hard!

Just leave, your doing absolutely nothing helpful here. Go back to /v/. Arguing every single time someone posts 'I enjoy this game' literally helps no one.

Also - definitely expecting the 'shitpost complaining about shitposts' comment, but this is a real problem.

You really are a manchild, spouting NO U doesn't change the fact that you're a hypocrite.
It's called rhetoric, anon. If you've made a fault, you call the other person out for that fault even if he hasn't made the same one. Then it'll look like he's just going "NO, U!" if he tries to capitalize on your error.

It's dipshittery 101, you really need to learn how civilized argumentation works.
>>
>>151463037
No, it's pseudoscientific propaganda from the antiporn/pro-abstinence lobby that claims masturbation increases DHT in men and causes hair loss, and promises young men if they don't masturbate that they'll expereince increased motivation, more energy, and the desire to fap might make you pursue RL girls more aggressively (lol).

Also video games are a product, not a service faggot. There is literally NO reason to feel bad for pirating a game that will sell at least a million copies, and is made by a dev that deliberately obfuscated features of his game to mislead people.

To me it's a service. It's just code and ideas so there is no physical product either. It's like saying that the way words are formed in a book is a product. Anyway, video game products as they are also called (But not exclusively as only a faggot would claim) are a part of the entertainment service business.

It doesn't matter how you feel about it, games are objectively a product that you buy. You are not paying for a service when you pay for a game, you're buying a product even if it only exists digitally, and calling it part of a "entertainment service business" when the industry is selling products. This isn't up for debate.
Yes, games as services exists (ie F2P) but only a faggot would conflate these with games that you buy to call them services.

I wonder if you realize that while I have told you I'm just poking you because I think your retarded logic is entertaining you have declared yourself winner because "I keep replying" even though you do the same. Wait what? You can find ships and fix them up?

That actually sounds pretty neat. That got me a little more excited to play it tomorrow.

every time I've gotten into a storm of some kind the weather cosmetically matches whats happening, if it's cold I can only see two feet in front of me because it starts snowing, if it's raining same deal with rain, if it's dust plants are blown around and shit. Dunno what your talking about dog.
>>
>>151474426

weird, have you tested that on different planets and systems? I've noticed that there really is a lot more variety the further I get. "Idiots and women" implies that:
1. Women can't be idiots
2. The idiots are male
Unless you're being non-binary inclusive which I doubt cause we're on 4chan.
>>

Haven't they already covered the cost of development and shit just off the preorders?

Lots of people took mortgages they knew they couldn't afford as well.

Probably. It's definitely a financial success. Like the transformers movies.
>>
>>151476898
To follow that line of thought: why would you conclude that only men can split of and become idiots? There's nothing in there that prevent them from coming from both genders.

If you want to try games with econ's like Eve's but in single player, X:3 is really good. you can also get Albion prelude and use a mod to unlock Terran Conflict's story in it. Just stay as far away as possible from X:Rebirth.

Such a shame that X:3 is the last good space sim to have been made. Elite Dangerous is shallow as fuck, Star Citizen will get finished sometime next century, and the hundreds of indy space sims out there are either really shit/ really boring/ or just unfinished.

Just 2 quotes below from their description of the process.
