Gunfaggot anon here. I had night classes today and will have them tomorrow so I took a break from making guns for now. On friday I will resume making them and should probably have all the sprites finished this weekend, and then I'll move onto making the recipes and balancing and stuff. If I can make the files easily, I should have the whole thing done in a week or two. I shouldn't have too many problems with coding since I've fiddled around with the files before.

That's pretty much the entire reason why I'm so critical on trip-hate. Quite a few end up deserving it, yeah. But I've also seen threads where a trip user is genuinely benevolent and helps people out, then makes a single mistake. I found these guys on a volcanic planet, which I died to three times straight just trying to get to the place I accidentally fell into lava, and I can hit them. I haven't killed any of them yet, but they're definitely taking damage from my attacks. They don't fight back or anything.

No other NPCs in the game do this. I found a camp of humans on the same planet, and I can't hit them at all.

I have the second-highest tiered armor in the game, and the highest isn't THAT big of an increase, why are the enemies on this planet doing 50 damage every hit?

Outside of the permanent playerbase, I wouldn't say its alive at all.

The game hasn't aged well and is just not new-player friendly at all(ofc it is better than what it was on open beta) compared to other games out there.

Once new players figure out that leveling is sort of limitless, and they have a level gap of 10~20k between themselves and veterans compared to a level gap of around 90~100 on almost anyother game really makes it difficult to want to invest into it.

Not to mention the shit UI/controls, having to buy mounts with real money(outside events), and having to deal with a dead server if you're outside Alexina, and an economy that is too inflated for anyone completely new to access without RMT and/or abusing bugs...etc

It's not about storage, it's about actual active inventory space. The mod has so much material bloat that you are almost certain to run out of space in the "materials" tab of your inventory if you spend more than a few minutes on a single planet without beaming out to stash shit.

You HAVE to keep shit like ingots out of your inventory as well, which makes its retarded microcrafting system (think gregtech if you've ever played that, or most feed the beast/tekkit mods for minecraft in general for that matter) twice as frustrating and tedious. Basically everything you can craft in the mod is made from like three different components that are made from three different parts that are made from two or three different materials, so you need about 18-27 distinct things to start with to craft anything you can actually use, which means keeping a list of 18-27 things and how much you need of each in your head while you rummage through your chests for shit including ingots which you would normally keep in your inventory but can't because you literally need every single slot while exploring even the most mundane of planets.

The blocks tab suffers similarly but fortunately you're not likely to run into a situation where there's nothing in the blocks tab you're comfortable with throwing away, so that's not as bad.

Personally I got tired of FO4 even faster than Starbound. It was way better than I expected and settlements were pretty cozy, and they did a good job of using visuals to make the game feel "chilly" in a way I feel they failed to with Skyrim, which counts for a lot for me, but I kind of just ran out of shit to do and also couldn't deal with the constant memory leak issues or whatever causes the game to go from 60 to 10 fps after playing for half an hour.

That mod is full of dirty edits apparently dating to a broken nightly build and fucks up vanilla quests, unless it's been fixed since the last time I used it.

I've literally never even tried moving a teleporter, never had a reason to. Anyway I'm pretty sure the "die when you kill them" thing is to make them more valuable.

I can get the idea with them wanting those teleporters to be more valuable, but I can just as easily slap a flag on something if I wanted to be lazy, and those serve the same purpose for less cost and space usage, thus invalidating the real "value" of them since they're pretty restrictive.

I can concede the Halogen pack isn't /needed/ but I enjoy it.

Two things about that.

First, it actually has little or no visible impact for me on regular character friction; All it improves is mobility in the air.

Second, if you're actually SLIDING rather than just stepping a bit too far without it, that most likely comes from frackin universe, which makes blocks like ice, mud and sand cause sliding and makes you actually slide off the edges of slopes. That isn't a vanilla thing, it's just one of frackin's many questionable design choices. I actually like that one except mud is way too common to have it act like you're playing an ice level in a shitty platformer.

What I mean is that instead of patching game files it replaces them with an edited version, and the edited version is from an old version of the game, so for instance during the glitch mission you can't start the wave event because the baron just starts his dialogue over when he gets to "oh, you want this?" or whatever, and returns to his throne. If you take an EPP off on, say, a frozen planet, the cold will start to drain your energy bar, and you don't start taking damage until your energy is drained. In the Frackin Universe mod the newer EPPs don't have the bonuses of the old ones so if you wanted to go underwater on a harsh planet you had to unequip the appropriate EPP to the breathing one and quickly back before you start dying.

I disagree, settlers in starbound have more personality. Beyond the basic furniture determining what type of person shows up (which would be a huge step up from Fallout's settler). I've noticed that villagers in starbound also seem to form likes and dislikes of other villagers. There seems to be different cliques in my settlement, villagers who try to become friends and then call in favors while others have me go intimidate then rob others. This one seems to be a crime boss since she's had me intimidate 3 other villagers and now is repeatedly getting stuff from them.

So what if races had unique traits? What would they be?

Novakid - Light, obviously, like maybe slightly worse than the light backpack/augments you get later so they still have some kind of use.

Hylotl - Underwater breathing and faster swimming. The breathing part is useless pretty early on but being able to navigate ocean worlds faster would be a huge plus.

Floran - Not sure about them, maybe they just do more damage and attack slightly faster? Alternatively, maybe they run faster.

Avian - I feel like gliding would be a little too useful, but maybe they can jump higher and fall slower? Or maybe just take less fall damage.

Glitch - More HP/Defense?

Apex - Again not sure what would be fitting and not super gamebreaking. How about if buffs like rage and regens lasted much longer on them? though I suppose that would render Novakids useless because of light stimpacks

I'd keep most of the weapons and armour but with vanilla or at least much simpler recipes (perhaps have two extra ore tiers from proto and penumbra plus one or two of the funky weird things like lunari crystals), about half the biomes (and new star+planet types) because those are the main reason to bother with it imo, and the farm shit (bees and booze which are super comfy which is the thing to prioritise, but you seem to agree with me on that anyway). Make EPPs function like in vanilla, take out shit that is more powerful than an EPP can handle. Axe all the shitty monsters (a few might be worthy of staying, ive seen exactly 1 FU monster that looked good and also wasn't just a vanilla palette swap), the shitty biomes (about half of them), tone down the friction changes (especially for mud), remove all middle microcrafting steps so you just fucking craft shit from the base materials and it isn't a thirty step process, get rid of the power system and consolidate a few of the crafting stations.

So I know you guys are way more knowledgeable about mods than myself, and i have a stupid idea that I want to try doing.

You folks ever heard of Sandman? Not the wuss from fairy tales, I mean some hot babe from Gaia Online. (My girlfriend "plays" it, don't get on my case.) I thought she'd be pretty cool to make a character after.

The problem: Getting a character that damn pasty (read: neon white), a blindfold that doesn't look like ass, and maybe a working outfit. You guys have any ideas? I was thinking of trying to use the Ningen race, but I'm not sure if they'll do.
Also, here's a picture for reference. It's not great, but hey. Sparing you guys the lore details, she does have black skin here, but she gets white skin later. It's annoyingly vague.

First playthrough, finished setting up shop in an abandoned castle, decided to farm until I was rich enough to get EPP gear and such.

Skin is just a matter of opening a file and entering the hex color values for whatever hues you want.

The blindfold would be really easy to make, just a single sprite really. Maybe two, one smaller for the icon.

The outfit is where you'd run into problems. I imagine you want it to be female only? In that case you'd need to edit or create at least 7 sprites for the chestpiece, 19 for the sleeves and 34 for the legs. Luckily for you the legs look like stockings so you could simply recolor/add some detail to the base naked sprites or any pair of thin pants and get a nice pair.

Totally doable but laborious. If you are good with pixel art I imagine it would be real easy.
