First person shooter is pretty easy to do as long as you don't need multiplayer. It can take a while to make levels if you want any quality though.

In terms of timeframe, depending on the amount of levels you're going to make and the complexity of the game it'll probably take you a month or two for a 1MA to get a couple levels working and polished for a FPS

The C++ guy was actually homeless, but through a sheer amount of luck/fate/whatever, they emailed me during one month they were staying at their friends house, for an entirely different matter relating to my SFW stuff.

I told him what I needed (I had Triangulate but was struggling to find good programmers) and he hopped on board, as he'd already made a NSFW game before, and here we are.

As far as where to look, if you're genuinely skilled at it, people will knock down a door to get you on boards like ULMF or any hentai board, really. Skilled/not lazy/easy to work with programmers are diamonds.

Working in C++ and Lua to make a 2D Tile Engine.

I'm trying to come up with how my Engine is put together. I hear a lot about encapsulation and separating responsibilities and whatnot.

For example, I've heard that an object shouldn't draw itself (no Object.draw()), but that a Renderer shouldn't be dependent on an Object. How can a Renderer draw an Object and yet not know anything about it? That seems contradictory to me.

Any thoughts?

When I was fucking around with Unreal and looking for some info on how to make a nice scaleable dialogue system, I stumbled on this one system in the asset store going for $20. WIP for dancer run cycle.

I've completed the cycle but I've still got work to do. I dont feel like the torso twisting sells at speed and it just makes for some confusing jumps of a couple of points. I'm going to change the position of her left hand at the highest point, because it looks awkward as is, like it's growing, and it doesn't match the motion of her right. I haven't touched the hair at all and I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to do, but it looks like a static helmet at the moment. Also some of the frames with legs pulling up from the launch are too close together and the leg just kind of hangs there awkwardly at the moment.

As far as what you need done, I'd say;
- A general game design document, but compressed down into about 2-3 pages at most for people to understand the game mechanics, basic storyline, all that stuff

That would be the bare minimum; having a playable demo is basically an instant-win though (assuming the demo is good).

When you call draw() on an object, it returns ~something~ that represents a draw call with all the necessary information. That gets submitted to the renderer, which does the rest. The point is, the objects and the renderer are extremely decoupled.

This fits well with the batching/sorting that renderers do, and also with the command lists/bundles of the new graphics APIs. So it's actually probably MORE efficient than getting objects to call methods on a renderer which then has to build everything behind-the-scenes.

I'm making an AI that can understand phrases and elaborate different responses.

I'm using Lua, since it has tables that are really useful for this kind of thing. Basically, you type some simple question and then it analyzes each word meaning (I haven't added many words, because I have to classify each of them by type, such as: Friendly words, mean words, funny words, love words, etc and also wether it's a verb, noun, adjective... and also other words that might be related to them).

It processes each words, their position in the phrase and if it's in the past, present or future. Then, after getting all words that might be related to the input phrase, it inserts them into tables of nouns, verbs, and adjectives, and then position them properly to form a phrase. That is the output.

I've also added a random factor when the AI chooses words. When it finds different words that mean the same thing, it randomly selects one of them for the output, so it feels more realistical. I'm considering removing it for now, because sometimes it chooses words completely unrelated that make no sense in a phrase.

I'm considering adding templates of possible responses for common questions such as "How are you?" "Fine, and you?" but that's for later

I think there are around 100 words right now. Since not all of them have their past, present and future versions, the responses feel weird sometimes.

I'm considering making a Kickstarter for it, or maybe make a website where people could add words to the AI for me, but I don't like the idea.

There is no reason for decoupling the way the renderer works from your drawable objects, if you have well defined draw methods for the game you're working on. There is no reason the objects shouldn't know what and how they can render things. For instance for a 2D game, your renderer would probably have methods for texture drawing and text drawing.

Then you'd just call those methods in your object's draw calls, which will then get batched by the renderer directly.

Instead of having your draw methods return data that needs to be processed by your renderer to figure out whether it's text or a texture or whatever else.

And how do they get batched? The method calls stick draw calls in a collection that is processed all at once. Why not cut out the middle man and just give these draw calls directly? You can create them at object creation time and store them, so you're not just generating the same thing over and over again.

The renderer doesn't need to process or figure out anything. The point is it doesn't care about the high-level outcome, it just draws things. The other was to store the mouse position coordinates in an array, up to 1000 or something, then just compare that to pre-made arrays. But that would require the player to be too exact.

Are you trying to draw runes on screen to cast spells or something like that? If you make sure the player knows he has to start the drawing from a certain point, you could use that as sort of an anchor point to translate the entire drawing on top of the template you're comparing it to and then it wouldn't matter if they drew on a different part of the screen. Her feet seems too static, like they never bend even when they touch the floor and that makes the animation look unnatural. I would suggest you studying Aladdin's run cycle, its really well done, and since he has similar clothings it can give you a few interesting ideas like the pants' bounce. The boob bounce will make wonders for her too. I personally like the navel piercing though.

Your physics for it seem good, which honestly is a huge hurdle in itself; there's a lot of people that try to make a platforming engine, with some of these common issues that arise;

- Going up a slope and then turning the other direction has your character fly upwards and off the slope
- Jumping while going up slope increases jump height dramatically
- Can't jump while going down slopes
- Hitting corners of edges causes character to pop up in the air
- Character briefly "sticks" to walls/ceilings if making contact with them
- Character slightly wobbles/vibrates vertically while walking on level ground
- Hitting underside of ledges pushes character down quickly

Finalizing this for now, I think. Hair still looks a little helmety but everything I'd done to try and fix it looks awful, so here we are.

So, Day 23 of trying to make video games!

Tweaked the run animation with lots of help from /agdg/, did some Python lessons and will do art exercises before I go to bed.

Tomorrow I will either put her in the game prototype style with GM drag-and-drop to test what the movement speed should be and how it matches up with the sprite, or start working on a turn-around animation.

I added heart tanks to the game. The idea right now is that after the beach level, you'll be able to choose between 4 levels mega man style, and then after you clear them all you go through the final levels. Because of this, I'm adding upgrades; hence the heart tank. They give you green hearts over your red hearts, bumping your max health to 12 if you find them all. They also fully heal you when you get one!
The graphic's also somewhat of a placeholder: I'm gonna animate it and make it look higher impact when you pick one up.

makes her bottom half look all lumpy in various undesired ways

The thickness of the pants over all in comparison to the arm really makes something look off. im not entirely sure how to really fix it. perhaps you should unironically give her a more pronounced butt and make the pants a bit tighter on the upper legs, and even baggier at the bottom to sell theyre baggy pants and not hotdogs. I think a lot of the issues could be solved by exaggerating everything a bit more

and this is just my opinion personally, but i would make your base shades more saturated and maybe even lighten up your shadows depending on how that affects it. Get rid of that black and opt for a darker red, or maybe try keeping the silhouette of the front leg with a highlight border of the main red shade instead.

You could probably get away with having less detail over all, and it might look better in the process. like the back leg would work with just the darkest shade and then you wouldnt have to worry about separating the legs. If you actually just did everything a flat color it might work out better because the way the highlights move is sorta inconsitent, which is why her hair looks helmety because thats the only highlight on the character that isn't moving. if you want to keep her cute and shiny and anime, just do flat colors and add 1 pixel highlight on the cute spots (her head, and w/e you want attention drawn towards ya freak). unfortunately her belly button ring(?) only makes me think shes got a beer gut swaying in the wind and since blue is sparlsely used in the design it draws a lot of attention to it. not too sure what you can do about this and still keep it.
w/ that blue in mind maybe give her a blue pixel on her feet to create eye movement across the entire char

I'll take all this into consideration, thanks. I took the colors specifically from another pre-existing sprite and was trying to work with those. That's a good point about the hair highlight, I'll see what I can do about making that seem a bit more fluid.

I am trying to aim for a slightly more realistic look so I didn't want to exagerate things too much or make things too flat, though I clearly went a little crazy with the highlights (but I personally like the effect on the near-leg launching off with the highlight).

I might try an anklet of some kind with a blue spot on it. If not, the navel piercing might have to go.

I had the back leg totally flat at one point and I personally didn't like it.

Maybe the enemy can throw them sporadically, so the player can see they explode, (or hear it off screen) before they actually get to the enemy? Or you could go dark souls route, and not tell the player anything. Let them die the first time figuring it out.

You need to lower the resolution at which blender renders, this creates the jaggies on the edges of the models. Then you need to disable mipmaps so textures don't have AA. As for the shadow, I don't know, that could've been manually done by the shadow being a model itself.
