Why does Overwatch feel so hard to analyze my skill in?

SC2 was great, I could identify all the places I messed up after every round. Bad macro here, poor build decision there, and so forth. The game felt very deterministic and it was easy to see (and therefore measure improvement in) my mistakes.

When that game died I switched to dota 2. Obviously it's harder to identify your mistakes in a team game, and you have to constantly second guess hero choice when analyzing any fuckups in game. But nontheless, you can see where you missed lasthits or were underfarmed, and strategical mistakes are fairly evident.

Overwatch leaves me clueless. Aside from the absolute smallest tactical mistakes, where I missed a shot or misused a skill or was out of position, it feels impossible to find the flaws in my play. Did I pick heroes poorly, or did my team play poorly, or did I? Was my team shitters lacking individual skill or were we disorganized? I can't tell.

Not knowing how to improve is sucking the fun out of the game for me. Grinding matches mindlessly for untargetted practice doesn't itch that competitive need.

Which is the biggest noskill hero? Reaper or Junkrat?

When the fuck did they mess with Mei's wall's hitboxes? I stopped playing for a month, and now whenever I do a long wall at my feet I've got a 50/50 chance of being shunted to the side instead of being thrown on top of it.

I used to hop the left gap on Hanamura B by ice walling high enough to make the jump without having to stop or anything, but now that it's pushing me aside half the time I have to fucking stop, stare at my feet, ice wall, and see if I'm standing on top of it before I move. And if I'm not, what the fuck, I just wasted all that time going over there for nothing. The fucking wall is more than a character thick, how can I NOT be put on top of it when it's perfectly straight in front of me?

I find myself asking the same question all the time. Sometimes your steamrolling and feel like your doing great, and then you realize you have almost no medals and wonder. Or you team is getting crushed, but no one is doing well. With no one backing you up it seems like you just instantly die to two or three enemies ganging up on you, but even then you wonder if you're part of the problem.

I feel like its the overall lack of information the game gives you. No real scoreboard and no way to tell what team mates are doing if you aren't looking right at them. Without voice communication, I've finished matches not even realizing a hero was being played during that match on our team.

IMO Blizzard is actually a really good ult, it's just attached to a character who's otherwise useless.

I'd also move Whole Hog up a tier, if used well it's basically one guaranteed kill with the potential for more and also knocks people off the point, which is more than can be said for Pulse Bomb. (Which, IMO, is one of the weakest ults in the game, as it doesn't have the game-changing potential of almost every other unless combo'd with a Zarya ult or used on a particularly unlucky clump of enemies.)

Since the one hero limit, I try to break it down by role. Keep in mind your responsibilities for the match and track how you're performing in doing them. If I'm playing Zarya, I'm on the point eating and then shitting out DPS, protecting squishies, killing D.Vas, harassing Genjis etc and I don't feel bad in the slightest about dying to a Pharah and the point being lost immediately because I know the McCree/Soldier/sniper wasn't doing his job and there was nothing I could do about it.

What do I get good at to carry on Defense because it seems like no matter what I pick our team always gets steamrolled.

I tried Zarya but you're super ult dependent and most of the time the enemy team will try to zerg the point and your team will get wiped before you can get it. I feel she's better on Offense because there's not this problem.

I'm not even gonna go after most of these, but I think people don't get what Zen is. Support doesn't mean "healer." Zen's not a healer, even though he has a healing ability. He basically fills the role of a general-purpose mage in an RPG (Red Mage in FF, don't know other games well enough to name it), and his job is to support the team by debuffing enemies, dealing decent damage from the backline, and dishing out a heal from time to time.

I'm basically there with you man, I'm currently down at 50 after a horrible morning of solo queue. I was climbing pretty well for a while, and then suddenly the low-50s turned into a complete clusterfuck and now I feel powerless to do anything to affect the game.

I used to be able to carry pretty well with Zarya, now I'm fucking useless with her because nobody knows how to synergize with her and even her ult is useless because the enemy team is just as much of a spread out clusterfuck as mine and so I can't get a good Graviton, plus my teammates are retards who hit Q as soon as the meter fills up and so there's nobody to take advantage of it.
