Scale was the other word in that sentence. There are only 30 something settlements in the entire game Even if it were as simple as slapping down animation markers, you still have dozens upon dozens of varied locations to add patrols to, would have to design those locations to accommodate them, and possibly have variants in locations where different factions can set up.

All for ONE playstyle in a game that doesn't make any claims towards being a stealth game.

MGSV did exactly that, though.

If you fultoned someone, the enemies would react to it and shoot down your fulton.
If you headshotted soldiers, next time they would have helmets.
If you went stealthly without anyone noticing, next time there would be dummies, mines, cameras, tripwires, etc.
If you trigger a full combat, the next time enemies would have body armour and heavy weapons to deal with you.
If you attacked at night, next time enemies would have Night-vision.
If you sniped enemies, next time enemies would wield sniper rifles to counter-attack in long distance.
And if you used too many gas grenades, sleeping gas and the likes, the next time enemies would have gas masks.
If you use transports a lot, they will have rocket launchers the next time.

Fallout 4 could have that if Bethesda wasn't so incompetent.

How do you think other stealth games work? Have you ever played one in your life.

Go get spotted, lose sight of your enemies, and then watch where they move. They always either go back to where they were original standing, or move to an alternate fixed location after an alert. They don't just randomly roam everywhere.

This isn't hard to program, it's literally public college level stuff.

Little progress on animu hairs.

ALL the bangs are now physics enabled, and clean.

ALL the hairs have physics, need cleaning, and longer hairs need to be fixed a little...but I think clipping is inevitable on them at some points. Not sure when I'll be done with this, but its probably gonna be another several hours of cleaning and CK work before its finished.

Before release I speculated some shitty story about time travel, like Shaun grew up in the wastes without his parents and resented having a perfect childhood and his family basically robbed from him because of the war. so when he becomes head of the institute he devises a plan to go back in time and stop it all from ever happening, consequences be damned. He succeeds when you confront him and ends up fucking up everything horribly, you both end up tumbling through time, through various time periods eventually ending up in Vault 111 a while before the life support fails and you wake up. You eventually end up killing Shaun, but succumb the injuries yourself. Your fight ends up causing the damage that causes the life support to fail, and when you first awake in the game, there's an unexplained skeleton lying in front of your spouse's cryo tube, as well as another unexplained skeleton lying a short ways away

Mine would a tribal faction that operate out of old prisons. They combine the orange convict jumpsuits with police riot gear, including tear gas and tasers. Some of the lower tier warriors would only have shivs and other makeshift weaponry and sometimes fight to the death in the yard. The community could even be divided into subcultures based on the different cellblocks, with the leaders inhabiting old guard quarters and offices. They'd have a language that'd be a combination of 10 code and broken police jargon. Maybe they'd have a weird religion based around a God figure called "Warden" and their spiritual elders would all live in solitary confinement and have a similar visual style to shoalin monks because of all the orange.

Sure. But it was based upon the work of artists who were already creating Manga in the style that would later be the basis for anime, and many of them work releasing works in the 50's, and was inspired by works that had been released in the 30's. We also have no reason to believe that Japan's development had diverged as hard as that of the United States by the 60's.

Considering how much it was driven by events prior to divergence (such as the release of Snow White back in the 30's,) it's reasonable to believe that anime probably existed for at least a short time in Japan.

As others have said, the influences and events leading to the creation of anime are pre-divergence. Granted the stuff created is unlikely to have the same sort of production values and speed of creation as modern anime can achieve, but it would still have been worth watching.

While it is difficult to know exactly what sort of anime would be produced, it's rather probable that getting it in the would have be difficult even if you went to the trouble to import it. Unless some Fallout version of Toonami managed to come into existence.

That makes absolutely no sense. The U.S. reversion to 1950's Retrofutrism, and cultural stagnation was a product of government social engineering - they talk about this in Fallout 3. It was undertaken in the years leading up to the resource wars, and was intended as a way to reduce dissent among the general population. It's why the U.S. hadn't torn itself apart prior to the war.

Pop culture was likely generally unchanged in the U.S. up through the 1960's, with some divergence visible into the 70's (winning Vietnam, ect.) Outside of the U.S., it's reasonable to assume that right up into the 1980's things were more or less the same. By then, you'd see such divergence that pop culture as we know it wouldn't exist pretty much at all.

It's not unreasonable to believe that works such as the original Mobile Suit Gundam came out, if only in Japan, nor is it all that unbelievable that artistic styles in all animation similar to what we were seeing in the late 80's were being used.

Into the 90's, the reliance on technologies that simply didn't exist at that point begin to forcibly break down things too much to make any guesses. But it isn't unreasonable to assume that high-quality modern-ish anime was being produced by the 2000s.

The real threat to anime is China, really. It's likely that China completely ate Japan. Unless a lot of animators fled to North America, and managed to find a way past the memetic hate of Asians instilled into the population, you're not going to see much anime by the time of the war.

I'm curious how much sexual subtext we have found now that we are nearing the end of the games dlc cycle? The lack of sexual content on the ESBR concerned me, but we did get Magnolia, lovers comfort, and hints in Cait's backstory.

That said, Fallout has always been a setting that never shied away from sexual and darker elements. FO1 with the hookers, the carvan daughter and the drug fueled romp, ect. FO2 with Metzger, various whore houses, cut nudie posters, Miria, Miria being abused as a child, being gimp for a Super Mutant, T Dawg, ect. Even Tactics and Piece of Shit had elements, with the mutant brothel in the former, and ghoul sex followed by throwing up in latter.

It's not a typical Bethesda issue; Fallout 3 was fairly light on it, but there was Clover, Silver, Nova, Little Lamplight, Bittercup being the town bike, ect. The Elder Scrolls have been full of over and subtle content all the way, from outright nudity in Daggerfall, the infamous Barenziah book, and shit like the fine for necrophilia in Cyrodiil, and Sapphire and especially Serana in Skyrim.

For all that is does have, I've not found a great deal of sexuality in Fallout 4, and post-apocalyptic settings usually have plenty. What have you guys noticed?

That's the thing I was actually thinking about. Both otakus and weeaboos are huge factors in the evolution of anime. For example, a large otaku subculture could result in something quite similar to Evangelion still managing to come out in the Fallout universe, but with more tube-tech kicking around.

A big part of it depends on a lot of factors that simply can't be known - it was largely the localization of the anime of the 1980's that caused the big takeoff in the west. It's safe to assume that certain cornerstones like Astro Boy, Ultimate Muscle, Gigantor, and even Gundam would probably have survived the divergence mostly unscathed- they were all rooted in slightly more timeless themes, or were based upon events untouched by the divergence - WWII, for example. But the big "staple" stuff like Akira, and Transformers? Those are going to be hit hard by the technological limits and timeline changes.

It's more imaginable that the West might instead develop more of an appetite for more "adult" anime, like the earlier Lupin series, or perhaps something in the same vein as Cowboy Bebop. If that kind of culture were to take root, you'd probably still see a weeaboo culture evolve, but it'd only really start taking off with the members of our Generation Z, and only if content was being created for children that could be imported and translated.

Pandering would likely end up arising regardless of a Western audience, as is the case with any media that has an established fanbase. However, I think it would be more focused on Japanese viewers than Westerners.

All of this, of course, also assumes that Japan even has the economy to support the kind of anime boom we saw in the 70's and 80's. If the U.S. had stronger policies to protect it's manufacturing sector, or didn't spend as much money and end up providing as many resources to Japan after the war, it's possible anime would remain a strange Japanese animation style that died with Japan.

Robots are best with Automatron, the base robot companions get a bonus to their stats which makes them superior to robots you can build.

Different companions might have utility, such as hacking or picking locks. Dogmeat doesn't stop the Lone Wanderer perk.

Unless you're farming for companion perks, you can't really go wrong with Codsworth. Just remember to build a couple of repair kits.

I do lots of building in settlements, sometimes I run around just building up companions and looting (to build more in settlements), I collect certain gear and outfit my settlers with sets of the same stuff. I had every companion maxed except Danse and the courser. I spent a long time in Far Harbour doing everything and building a beachhouse up north. I was also almost totally done questwise, but building and upgrading settlements would have kept me going until Nuka and Maxwell's Worlds.

My main save right now is my character that I continued from NV (one that never did the main storyline) I use the Syth Nora mod and just "RP" that any mainquest missions I do is me just coming along to help her out. My whole story on that character revolves heavily around the settlement building, as well as FCOM to have Minutemen squads accompany me. I have survival damage up to 3x instead of two with WotC. For that character, because I focused on establishing a functioning community based around sanctuary first, I didn't even get to diamond city until level 30.

My generic Nora character beelined for the storyline quests because ma shaun so I finished that and most of my companions by around level 40.

At this stage of my game, I'm decked in high tech shit, so I'd have loved to be able to customize their armor before spawning. Or at least outfit veterans in custom gear. There were mods on Skyrim that let you outfit guards by just modifying one mannequin for house mods.

In the move to a 3D, first person shooter format, those game mechanics suddenly don't make sense to the player anymore. He can manually move the mouse around and point it at the charging ghoul. To shoot the enemy and see the bullet go from his gun to the enemy and let out a big MISS would be unfathomable. Using these same mechanics for a different game setup doesn't make sense.

FO3 and FNV struggled with the adherence to Fallout's old skill system in places where it didn't make sense, and included some weird hacks and shoe-ins for places where it didn't belong to make things seem right, but at the end of the day, just because old Fallouts used a particular system for its characters doesn't mean it's the *best* system for the current game.

Bethesda took a chance and experimented with things in FO4.

To be honest, there is far too much overlap in character options between stats, skills, and perks. If one can cover the load of one or even two of the others, why have all three? I think FO4 did a much better job of this than Skyrim, which dropped stats but kept skills for seemingly no reason at all except tradition.

And while I agree that their implementation in FO4 was all in all pretty lackluster (in particular, there are too many elements of the game that are non-interactive when they really should be. Intimidate perk should be used in dialogue and as an alternate way of recruiting settlers. The scrapper perks should be used for repairing shit on the USS constitution quest; All in all, there's plenty of situations in the game where at least 2 or 3 perks could've come up as possible solutions), simply because is *different* is not a reason to say it is *bad*.

This kind of mindset is why so many players still play Pathfinder RPG, which is one of the most disgusting cesspools of bad design and even worse game designers in the tabletop market, but because it is so close to 3e D&D people treat it is manna from heaven.

Obsidian wants to focus on their own projects, but they are dependent on contract work for other companies. If they can't be independent developers, then getting bought out would be better for the people still at the company.
