Both the lewd and stealth jam pages have stupid descriptions and completely lack any style, there's not even a banner with the AGDG logo.
This is disgraceful, fix those jams.

>>150830173
The sidebar especially, but the buttons to a lesser extent. Like, you've got a very minimalist, clean art style in the game itself, and then you've got diagonal neon button prompts and some sort of grainy brick wall looking sidebar. I don't even know that you should have the sidebar cover a whole side of the screen like that.

Not him but stealth jam's description is actually pretty cringy. is trying to hard to be funny and "so randum xD"

Lewd Jam failed with the prize thing. That's the kind of thing that only generates drama. If a game with good art and bad gameplay "wins" people will complain that we only care about art in games. If an ugly looking game with good gameplay wins people will complain that we choose a bad game because is not appealing to their dicks, then people will start complaining that the prize was rigged and we will have to deal with all that circlejerking drama shitposting for months.

Are there any artfriends here who would be willing to draw me a concept picture for my goblin girl?

I, myself, am not very good in arts. But I think that I should have some sort of inspiration picture stored somewhere.

Picutured is an early concept of what a wood elf roughly looks like in "Goblin girl" universe. It is not an actual concept picture, but rather a source of inspiration. Goblins are cousin to elves. However goblins themselves are not tree swinging forest lovers. They are cave dwellers and thus they haven't become that monkey like. Goblins are kinda a middlepoint between the pic related elf and a regular human, but very shot.

Any artfriends up for the task?

You have to get power-ups to pass otherwise inaccessible obstacles and this is done in the way that it gives illusion of non-linear progression to player. These power-ups must change the gameplay in some way (for example, keys doesn't add anything to gameplay and thus aren't count, but morph ball, for example does)

Think of Zelda games but as sidescroller (not zelda 2).

I didn't work on her body at all, I just traced a random monkey and thats it. Original head was also traced from a monkey, but I changed it to make it more human. Is more about practice than other thing, most people will say to you "lol read loomis!" but that is not going to magically make you better, you'll still gonna need a lot of time.
So the best thing is just do it mostly by yourself, draw from real life, photographs and shit, read something about perspective because that's kinda hard to get it yourself and if you just want to draw animu girls draw them sometimes, but try to concentrate on copying real person because that will give you the basic and important stuff.

Create low fidelity character models followed by creating different material groups for the parts you want in different colors, and then either rig it yourself or throw the model into mixamo. You could render it in a game engine or 3D software, and if it is for pictures only I'd probably apply the low resolution effect in post.

you can separate drawing into just 2 parts, part1 is the structure (the underlying shapes, known as modeling in 3D) and part2 is rendering (the lines, details, color, shading).
structure is really not that hard to learn and results in 80% of the quality of a drawing.
rendering is the other 20% of quality and depending on the style can be fairly simple or ridiculously complex.

You should stop implying that every shoujo manga or anime uses those exaggerated proportions.
Second, there's nothing wrong with overly slender bodies but when the legs are 6 feet long and the rest of the body is 3, you have a problem. Third, the anime doesn't always use proportions that exaggerated so those screens are mostly QUALITY anyway.

paypal's payment terms are left vague about what "sexually related" things they allow money transfers to take place for by using the clause "some" which means its basically all at their discrection and i assume is anything that makes them look bad and stuff like prostitution.

That was sort of my problem. I thought I'd enginedev for a while before I figured out exactly how my game was going to play. Now that I'm mostly done enginedevving, I'm trying to add some new features in the game but my code structure is just horrible, because I didn't plan ahead.

Ironically, the reason I was enginedevving before fully thinking about my game was because I wanted to make sure I had the programming skill to make my game. I didn't want to think about the game design too much because if I didn't know how to make it, I would have wasted a bunch of time. If I hadn't done it that way, my code would probably be much better right now.
Oh well, I'll probably just stick with it. The game runs fine and it's not like the user actually cares about the code anyways.

Obviously you won't have to do with Meta-Model co-evolution (which is anything but a buzzword by the way). But at least learn UML. Or get StarUML. But do something to plan ahead.
You don't have to look into model transformations or some shit. Creation is enough for you.

MVC is designed for user interfaces, not real-time games. Games have changing state every tick, and render every frame. You should still separate logic from rendering (fixed timestep w/ interpolation makes a great firewall), it's just MVC is an inappropriate way to do so.

UML is only needed if you write unreadable code. There's no reason to use UML to plan if you can just write the god damn code in the first place.

My enemies need to grab my player object, so they can get his x and y positions and move towards him. Right now my Level class is a singleton, so the enemies just call Level::Instance->Player->Position.
I'd like to make my Level NOT a singleton, so how would the enemies get the player's information? I guess I could pass it through, but that's ugly and it'd have to pass through a few different functions to work. I was thinking I could make another singleton, World or something, and copy the player's information into it.

A bool is literally a 0 or a 1.

false = 0, true = 1;

so your enum can be {Red, Blue}

enum = 0 (false is red)
enum = 1 (true is blue)

>MVC is designed for user interfaces, not real-time games
>Games have changing state every tick, and render every frame

You can apply the concept of MVC to asynchronous updates just as well.
In fact this has absolutely no effect. Especially not if you are going with a listener pattern, where the view is registered with the model and the controller takes the input that directly influences the model via logic.

This is the absolute minimum software architecture.
The rendering code itself must be called by the View obviously.
And if you really really want to write that shit yourself, you can lock that into an library and call it.
The view is just the component that puts the stuff from the model on the screen. That's all it does.

Really not seeing the problem here.

In fact if you outsource the driving force behind the rendering to an asynchronous component (like a thread that constantly tells the view to update) the thing gets even more modular, because you can just forget about the listener pattern I mentioned.

Every frame the view looks at whatever is in the model and renders that.
Done. Nice and simple.

>UML is only needed if you write unreadable code. There's no reason to use UML to plan if you can just write the god damn code in the first place.

this is not even amateur talk and you know that.
You wont be able to make a game, let alone an engine like that.

it was so that when you press a toggle button that's already been pressed down, it "untoggles" and returns to -1 state.

without that line of code, it works, except for the fact that the buttons are permanently toggled when you press them

Alright /agdg/ I've been thinking of making a game for the past 3 years that deals with the concept of leading rebels against a more powerful occupying force.

I'm going for a game with turn based tactical combat missions and situations with a real-time 4X based over world (more strategically complex xcom ufo defense).

Tactical combat would follow a Xenonauts/ufo defense sprite based tactical game using action points to move, shoot, open doors, etc.

Upgrading equipment consists of stealing armor and weapons as well as modifying captured armor and weapons for different purposes, as well as buying rare or powerful weapons from a black market.

The enemy would never know where your bases or outposts would be unless a patrol got lucky and got close enough to spot it or if they capture a soldier through a failed mission.

You'd have to send operatives into settlements to gather information of the surrounding area, recruit civilians, plot missions, figure out cchains of command for local forces, etc.

The enemy would have a chain of command in charge of certain areas with subordinates controlling smaller areas until you reach a settlement garrison, which is a city or town militia.

I have WAY more ideas if there's enough interest

>it was so that when you press a toggle button that's already been pressed down, it "untoggles" and returns to -1 state.
Oh, you have to do that a little differently.

>I used a string array at first, and then just picked the enum based on the array, but then the problem was that multiple buttons could be toggled/selected at the same time and this fucked up the enum (which can only have 1)
That's not what I mean.

Here's an updated solution with that in mind:

I used a node-based shader making plugin.

The magic happens in the lower-left area, where I do a dot product on the view direction and object's normals, which gives that soft white look that gets black around the sides. I invert it (One Minus) so it's the edges that are white. I give it a color (in this case red).

On top of that, I use a texture (some grayscale clouds texture) and blend it on that red glow, to give it a rough look. I move the UV coordinates of that cloud texture so it will look as if it's moving.

the
selected = -1;
is making it so that nothing is ever selected...

also, I need the Enum for other operations, so isn't it more complicated that I'd have to first generate the string[] based on the Enum, then keep making sure than selected[i] sets the private enum?

Oh, you're right, toggles have no internal state (of course, since it's immediate).

Maybe the way you have it with branching works, just something else is broken. What do you need the enum for where a simple index will do?

the Enum is also used as a state in the mouse controls script, like cursor modes? example, cursor mode is set to "selection" or "building" or "demolishing" (its a roller coaster tycoon clone game)

I didn't write all of the mouse control code and didn't think it would be a good idea to alter it, and I figured I would start setting up the menus that allow you to select and switch between these "modes" using the same enumerators

I want to make custom equipment for my player character show on the model. I understand I need to model all the different clothes and armors and assign them to the character's skeleton so that they animate together, but after that what do I do with each piece of equipment's model?
Do I save them as different files, or do I leave them as different object inside a single blend file together with the character model, and set them to active when the character equips them?

>noun is a noun
no shit

>The proper response to someone thinking you're asking a Y question and proposing an X solution that you cannot implement is to say you cannot implement it, not to immediately get hostile.
there should not be such a problem in the first place. have you seen the questions that have been killed by people going Y on it. its a fucking disease.

a normal human interaction would imply that both sides act like human to each other, but then the one giving the ansver condencendingly tells about Y without even enteraining the idea of X. This kind of attitude is quite frustrating for questioner. So don't be suprised that people get emotional over that.

Imagine the following situation here in /agdg/. before you start "REEEEE"ing about strawmans, this is an exagerated analogy meant to entertain and to illustrate the phenomenon by exagerating the focal points so that it is adamantly clear what is being talked about.
stackExchange way of dealing with it
Question:
>hey guys I can't seem to get [x] working
Ansvers:
>you should really be using Unity, it handles it under the hood
>just download library_K, it has a function for it
>lol, not using UE 4, get rect engine fag
>why are you even making an engine
>wouldn't it be better to use one of the existing engines

How those questions should be ansvered:
Question:
>hey guys I can't seem to get [x] working
Ansver:
>well you first have to do [x.1] then [x.2] and finally [x.3] and it should work fine. However if don't want to hassle yourself with such details you could just use any of the Development Engines.

Notice the difference. In the first one all the questions can be considered cheeky. In the second one you can see that it is a well rounded ansver, it provides the actual "better" way and yet doesn't leave the OP's dick just hanging.

You are rather examining an already existing thing and trying to find a way to recreate the things you've observed in another environment. It's kinda like translating a book.

I realized my level code didn't actually support tall rooms that connected horizontally to multiple shorter rooms, so I fixed that. Along with some other bugs I didn't notice.

From the preface:

Semantic argument: If I make all the assets for a game, but the vast majority of the code is a car-crash of open source things other people put together, can I call it "My game"?

For some reason I place a lot of emphasis on code over everything else, even if in this example case without my specific car-crashing of code elements it wouldn't be the game I designed at all. (i.e. the organization and small edits adding up to far more significance than the quantity of code would suggest)

Look at it this way: code is a tool to create something. You don't give the credit for the DIY store if you build something at home with and from the materials you've bought there.

Besides, you should avoid reinventing the wheel. So if there's a working algorithm for something, then it is advised to use that instead of spending days of figuring it out for yourself (but if that's something you enjoy, then go for it).

The overall animation looks stiff but your lack of basic understanding of anatomy also adds up to how robotic the movements and the bodyparts are. You could do some minor adjustment to the hands and feet like the fingers bending inwards and rotate the tip of the feet a bit away from each other.

Also, try to reference the keyframes of your animation with some already made templates like this.
